I'm 61 years old and anyone who knows me doesn't talk to me that way because I don't talk to them like that. At least twice I have seen him get into arguments with other customers. The black that works there has no personality or communication skills. The owner of the business speaks to you in a nasty manner. I would never recommend this place to anyone especially my family and friends. Just told my sister that the last time we spoke to the woman owner and she was rude with again the black man could not answer any questions. read more

I ordered 12 pounds of large shrimp (cleaned and deveined) for Thanksgiving to make gumbo. I prepared the gumbo with everything but the shrimp. After the broth had simmered for a couple of hours, I dropped the shrimp in and they curled and turned pinkish as they normally do. The shrimp were put in the broth directly from my refrigerator. They had been picked up from J & B's about 3 hours earlier and had gone into my refrigerator when i got home. After 15 minutes of simmering, I took out one to taste. It was mushy, almost a "powdery" mush. I have never experienced that in 40 years of making gumbo and other shrimp dishes. I tried a couple more, the texture was the same, just gross! There is no way I would eat that gumbo and would never serve it to anyone else. I called the shop to talk with someone to see what the problem could be. The man who answered the phone (not the owner) was nice and said he would talk with the owner to see what could be wrong and would call me back. I had the feeling he had dealt with this before. He did call me back and told me the owner said I had undercooked the shrimp! I told him that was not possible. He said the owner said to bring the shrimp in. I had someone help me strain the gumbo and we extracted every shrimp from it (all 12 pounds) and put them in a bowl. I took the bowl of shrimp to J & B's. They seemed surprised that i went to the trouble of bringing them back. The owner looked at them and told me that I had undercooked them. You can see in previous reviews that he had used that excuse before. He was argumentative and pointed to a sign that said no refunds could be given on cooked food. I told him the man I had talked with on the phone told me that he, the owner, said to bring them in. I had no idea they were bad until they cooked! I think they didn't expect me to bring them in. I didn't ask for a refund and the owner never offered a refund or replacement. I did not want to argue with him so I asked him to just throw the shrimp away and give me my container back. I have researched the issue to see what causes mushy shrimp and eveything I read supports improper handling of the shrimp as the cause, NOT UNDERCOOKING! A prior review points that out as well. I have bought seafood from this shop for several years and this was my first bad experience and will be my last! I lost close to $100 on the shrimp and almost that much on the other ingredients in the gumbo. read more

I love this place. I live in Central Florida. Most of the good Florida fish is sold out of state; sold in Florida and high as heck; OR we get fish from Asia? That is crazy to me, Five years ago I stumbled upon this place while doing business in Mobile. Since then I get 95% of all fish and seafood eaten and served in my house from J&B. The last five percent is when I have run out of J&B fish and I have not had a chance to get back. On April 1, 2013 I had jumbo shrimp I bought from J&B in July 2012. My guests commented on how fresh they tasted. You could taste the sea. This place is the best, and I have recommended it to many people read more

I've been trying for years to find a seafood shop that cooks crawfish the best in Mobile. I'm still too early into my expedition to name a winner but J&B is up there on my list. So flavorful and spicy! One of the few consistent shops with their boils. They're boiled crab is good too. I also by my seafood from them. Very fresh Gulf Coast seafood offered here. Everything from local fish to local caught shrimp and shellfish. Owners are so nice. And they're prices are always good! read more

Buyer beware!!! They put larger shrimp on top of their display and called them mediums. After getting home and de-heading almost all of the shrimp were half the size of the shrimp on top. read more

I enjoy the spiciness of the cooked crawfish, however this last batch had over 80% of rubbery, mushy un-edible crawfish. I had stopped purchasing my "fresh shrimp" from here. I was told they were "soft shell shrimp". If that is what I intended on purchasing, I would have asked. That was not advertised. Soft shell shrimp and now nasty soft shell crawfish, to me - as the daughter of a shrimper in the Bayou la Batre, means improperly handled: improper temperature and increased or improper temperature of seafood will lead to an inconsistant texture. I've experienced improper shrimp and now nasty texture of crawfish here. Try to just inform them of the experience. It leads to a heated discussion, even if you weren't asking for a refund! There are several other places to order crawfish and truly fresh seafood from. My business will be going elsewhere! I hate it because I love the spicy flavor of the crawfish.
