The staff was very friendly and welcoming. This appears to be a very clean and well kept. Noticed nearly perfect Health Department inspection certificates as well. I ordered a steamed shrimp poboy and cup of gumbo. The gumbo was served nice and hot. The flavor of the gumbo was ok, but the texture just seemed slightly slimy. It had shrimp and crab meat as proteins. The okra really just overshadowed everything. I loved the flavor of the Cajun sauce in the shrimp Poboy, but it was just was too salty. The shrimp on the poboy were tiny and lukewarm at best. The bun was tough and chewy, almost like a Cortazzo roll from Louisiana, just not my thing. Also sampled the steamed shrimp wrap, same sauce also shrimp were lukewarm. When I think steamed shrimp on anything, I think fresh large and hot gulf coast shrimp, not tiny thumbnail size shrimp barely warm. I want to give it another try in case this was just an off day for the steamed shrimp. read more

Wish all the Greers would have a restaurant instead of a deli especially the one at Fowl River. This would do so well for vacationing people on the way to Dauphin Island to be able to take a seafood feast with them already cooked and ready to eat! Food was good. Portion was adequate but I just got the smallest one to try. Personnel very nice & polite. Wish they also offered the seafood fried. Key lime pie could use a little more lime twang to it (in my opinion). I will be back to eat there again. read more

Stopped by for lunch and was not disappointed, somewhat. We had the 1/2 lb shrimp and a po-boy. The shrimp were good as were the potatoes and corn. We had the shrimp medium heat with garlic butter and it was great. Would definitely come back for more but would recommend ordering 1 lb and splitting it instead of (2) 1/2 lb combos as it is a much better deal. I would have liked to have seen refillable drinks too instead of bottled, if nothing else at least sweet tea, bottled tea is not acceptable in the South, just saying. All that aside I would have still rated Southern Shells a 5, as the service was fine, except for one problem.....the po boy really isn't a po boy. It's a shrimp loaf. I, being from The Big Easy, expect French bread on a po boy, no exceptions. The food was good, the price good but I didn't get a po boy. Call it a Shrimp Loaf and all is fine., but please don't try to pass that off as a po boy, it needs the right bread. read more

Driving through the area, we found this restaurant on Yelp and stopped in. Pleasant staff and terrific food but at the height of COVID, you gotta wear masks, folks. None of the many staff members wore a mask and neither did any of the patrons....and I heard someone cough in the back. Not a good impression. As a patron, this makes you very uncomfortable. We were fairly uneasy but ate the food because we had already paid. We ordered one po boy and combo number one with shrimp, potatoes and corn. Food took a long time but it came out hot and fresh and very tasty. Good prices. Portion sizes average. Ate here a week ago. I tried the steamed shrimp po'boy advertised on the sign out front. Due to COVID, all ordering is via the drive-thru. I missed the order/mic so I just drove up to the window and made my apologies. I enjoyed the smell of garlic as I drove home to dig in. Once home I found the sandwich was a little messy (see photo) but was tasty with a little bit of a bite for spice. I'm sure for many it wouldn't be considered spicy but it was just the right amount for me. Hard to find any info on this place, no menu easily available, they have a drive thru but don't seem to be using it, rarely see any cars in front, no website... can't speak to the food but it's hard to mess up steamed seafood unless you over cook it. I wish they would make the changes, I would love to be able to pull a comprehensive menu up from their site and place and order and then pick it up thru their drive thru so I don't have to get my kid out of the car... maybe they will fix this ‍ read more
