Trip down to the Lighthouse, always a nice drive and a relaxed atmosphere. Ordered the seafood plate oysters, shrimp, and crab claws. These are the fattest, meatiest claws around. Food was as expected, a notch above the typical fried seafood, fresh and cooked to perfection. Salad and baked potato sides were, well salad and baked potato. Nothing outstanding but no negatives at all. Service was spot on, timely and friendly. Did notice only one refill for tea mentioned on menu, I didn't test that but would have been a little bent if I was charged for excessive refills on tea. It's not much to provide an extra glass particularly when it is priced as the highest profit item on the menu. All in all a nice dinner with the Mrs and leftovers for lunch. read more

The place was packed at Noon on a Wednesday. We were seated in about 5 minutes. They turn tables pretty fast. A parking lot with plenty of parking. It was pretty loud but muted due to the low ceilings. We could have a conversation at out table easily throughout our visit. We did have to wait a bit for our waitress to come over as she was cashing out 3 or 4 tables as we sat. The wait was not very long. We ordered softdrinks, a cup of gumbo to start. Next, she ordered a bowl of gumbo for lunch and I had the hamburger steak with onions and brown gravy, fries and hushpuppies. The gumbo had very little seafood in it, the rue was dark and tasted silky and had good flavor. The gravy on my meal looked like and tasted like it came out of a jar with little flavor. If we return, I will try something else as we saw quite a bit of food delivered to tables around us that looked like better choices. read more

Server was one of the worst we've ever had. Took her 15 minutes to greet us and the party in the adjacent booth. When she finally arrived she announced that she was going to take all of our orders at once even though we were two separate parties. Brought our appetizer and salad and disappeared. Came back quite a while later with the entrees. Instead of removing the used appetizer plates, she said she would leave them in case we wanted more sauce whatever that meant. Food was maybe a 3 out of 10. Only decent item we had was crawfish tails with a mediocre sauce of some kind. Hamburger steak arrived covered by large slices of raw white onions and a little gravy. Fries were obviously cooked in well-used oil. Fried shrimp and oysters in poboy were heavily breaded in cornmeal. Had to flag server down to bring the check in addition to drink refills. Were not offered desert. When she asked if we wanted a to go box for our uneaten food, I said no thank you. Yet she brought a to go box with the check and said pay "up front". Stood at the counter for a good five minutes watching the hostess discuss phones with a customer. Finally, a woman standing next to me said she would check me out and went behind the register. Left our server a 15% which is about half of what we usually tip. We will not return. read more

We enjoy southbound, but even the Owner said you gotta try the lighthouse. My wife loved the crab claws. I had a fried seafood platter and it was good. Not as good as southbound, but it wasn't horrible. We had the coconut and the chocolate pie for dessert and that was very nice. Our waitress was really nice and there was plenty of room. Not honoring gift cards sold by current owners due to computer changes. Family spent over $720.00 for a 88 th B'day party there. Shortly after 125 gift cards were purchased. Tried to use later and was refused. Two still had peel off stickers showing $25. Family member later sent certified letters to the 3 owners showing receipts for the gift cards and other visits including the $720 spent there. Letters were refused at the business and follow up phone calls were never returned by one of the owners Randy. All involved are ages 76 84 and 90 and driving from Orange Beach and Mobile. Driving thru the gulf coast, had to stop in Bayou La Batre for some fresh seafood. The Lighthouse is one of the more reviewed places. The service was great w all the southern hospitality you would expect. This is some of the best seafood you will ever have in the south. The shrimp are fresh off the boat to the kitchen, the crab claws are huge, and the fish has great flavor. This place is a hidden gem, came with 7 people and yummy! The waitress was so kind and a little stressed, their computers went down and she was doing the best she can. The crab claws here are a must! An update to a previous review: All of my experiences have been awesome, until lunch today. Crab claws were barely warm and tough to come off the membrane telling me they were frozen, not fresh. Ordered the lunch special hamburger steak and it was cold and maybe 4 oz. The grilled onions must have been refrigerated. =The waitresses switched on us even though the original one was still there taking tables so maybe that was the issue but that is NOT my problem. Took awhile for the new one to check on us after the meal was served (@ 2 minutes after our claw appetizer was served) which tells me the claws sat in the window. Service was great! Our waitress was fast, funny, engaging and very responsive. The ambiance reminded me of a double wide trailer with cheap decor. So don't come here for a fine dining experience unless you're accustomed to plastic plates with paper on it to ease the dishes situation. And if you don't like breaded, deep fried, keep driving. I read a few Yelp reviews before deciding to go here. I was out on a motorcycle ride and was getting pretty hungry. The place doesn't look terribly inviting from the outside, but the number of cars in the parking lot are clear evidence that you should stop and try this place out. The inside is nice and clean and looks to be family owned. The staff was extremely friendly and I was seated immediately. The menu was simple with a nice variety of items, and there's a chalk board of daily specials as well. I ordered fried shrimp, hush puppies and fries. Yes...plenty of fried stuff. It was all delicious. The coating on the shrimp was crisp and tasty, and the cocktail sauce complimented the shrimp perfectly. The fries were fine...basic fries. Hush puppies were dense little fried gut bombs that tasted great! I should have just gotten the shrimp and hush puppies, because that was more than enough for lunch. I took my family back there the next day, and they loved it as much as I did. The place opens up at 11AM, and by 11:30, they're already getting hammered. Although I was a tourist from Atlanta, you can tell that this is the hometown go-to place. This place definitely belongs on your list and was reasonably priced. read more

The food was inconsistent. We ordered fried and grilled crab claws from their choice of pick two. The fried crab claws were a big portion but the grilled came out blackened with about 8 crab claws total. The service was awful-slow and rude. The restaurant itself is clean and simply decorated. We had called ahead and then again to follow up to confirm that we were coming with a large party but when we got there we weren't allowed in because they hadn't planned for us and had to set up. My understanding is the original owner passed away so apparently whoever owns it now has different standards. read more

I ate at this restaurant today and was so disappointed in the cleanliness of the restaurant. The ceiling fans, blinds, windows were all filthy which makes me wonder about the kitchen. It was also uncomfortably warm. All that being said the food was good and the staff and service were good. Don't think I will be returning anytime soon.
