Years ago someone introduced me to a great spot for barbecue, and it's still just that a GREAT spot. I'm not usually in the area, so I always forget to go by there until someone reminded me about Rodger's BBQ. I usually would go for ribs, when it comes to barbecue, that day not so, I could not resist the barbecue chicken. I was not at all disappointed. The chicken was tender, the barbecue sauce is a smoky sweet. The greens, good grief, those greens were delicious. Next, I've tried peach cobbler from here to Timbuktu. I don't like a lot of nutmeg, I like just the right amount of cinnamon. I'm from the south so I love the crust but I mean throw some peaches in there, right. Well that's exactly how Rodger's BBQ does it, just how I like it. I'm not going to waste your time going on about the flaky crust and how delicious those peaches were no, no, no. I'm not going to waste your time talking about just the right amount of cinnamon and how this it was just absolutely yummy and delicious, nope. I want you to go check it out for yourself. I've been eating their ribs since my parents used to take us to mobile on the weekends to visit our family members. We always get a couple slabs of ribs, bread, and a couple of sides. Of all the years I've visited, they've never lost their touch. The sauce has an amazing taste and it's not too thick and not too thin, if that make sense. Was told by a local that this was one of the best barbecues in Mobile Alabama. Our hotel was 10 minutes away from it so we decided to check it out before going to Mardi Gras parade. Upon arrival. There was 1000 cars in the parking lot so I was extremely excited to try out the food because a lot of cars means good business and good business means wonderful flavorful food. So on Tuesdays and Thursdays they have a fried rib sandwich for 7.99 so we decided to get that because it was Tuesday. We go inside and because it was fat Tuesday which is considered a holiday out there they were not doing it, so we just got the rib meal dinner Which came with two sides. we ask the cashier what is the best sides, she said it's collard greens and macaroni and cheese so that's what we got. Told her that macaroni and cheese better be good or ima be upset she said it is, so I'm hold her to it. So we get our food fast. Everything is already smoked and cooked but they dip it in a boiling sauce so I can get hot again. We got our food fast and we took it to the parking lot to test it out. I was satisfied on how tender the ribs were falling off the bone, the sauce was good but I definitely was expecting a little bit more spiciness and more barbecue sauce taste. The macaroni and cheese was TRASHHHHH was disappointed because this was Kraft Mac and cheese no flavor nor extra cheese. It came with 10 big fat hunks of ribs with no bones fried nice and golden not all dried out perfect amount of breading on them a big ok piles of fries on the side topped with two pieces of white bread and a cup of some really top shelve BBQ sauce!! This one on St Stephen road is fantastic! Ribs are divine and the chicken is great as well. It will take about 10+ minutes to get your food once you've ordered - unless it's a holiday period. Then you may want to bring a chair. But there's a reason - great food! Get the potato salad! And the greens are good as is the peach cobbler. These are my favorite three sides. I'll bet you're wondering how I ended up here. Well, let me start by telling you the story. It was a beautiful and sunny Fat Tuesday. My son and I had left the Knights of Revelry parade downtown, and decided to head to the vicinity of Airport and 65. That's not even close. Before long, I even passed a house I wanted to buy. I could rip the boards off the windows, slap on a fresh coat of paint and add some beautiful landscaping. It would have been a little dollhouse. Of course, I'd have to gut it and redo the interior, and maybe throw up some shiplap. At this point, you're probably starting to think that I watch too much DIY Network and HGTV, and you might be right. I'll cut to the chase and get down to the review. We were getting hungry and we passed the place and decided to stop in. We're from Memphis, and BBQ is our thing. We walked in and immediately noticed no place to sit. It's strictly to-go. We placed our orders and waited for our food then went to a park (on the Eastern Shore) and ate. They don't have pulled pork or chopped pork or apparently Boston butt. They have chicken and ribs. I ordered a rib sandwich, which was 4 ribs and bread. I ordered peach cobbler and sweet potatoes for my sides. My son ordered a half slab of ribs and no sides. We both ordered drinks. Our total was $37, which seemed to be on the high side. The food itself was good, but not exceptional. I've reached the conclusion that exceptional ribs just don't exist around here. These appeared to a have a smoke ring, but I couldn't taste the smokey flavor because they were slathered with sauce. Ribs are like steak, if they're properly cooked, you don't need sauce. These probably needed sauce, but were still better than most of the ribs we've had around here. They were spare ribs. The sides were really good, which is what earned them the third star. I've thought about it many times since that day and I still can't figure it out... how the heck are you supposed to eat a "rib sandwich"? And why. Why would you want to? read more

Honestly wish I could give no stars. I literally have nothing nice to say about this place. Got their BBQ on a whim because we were pressed for time but hungry. They act and talk like they have the best BBQ in the city when their ribs are bland and overpriced. Only way you could think this is the best BBQ you have ever had is if you have never had real BBQ. Stood in with my dad as they made our ribs and literally witnessed the cook take the rubs straight from a box to the grill without cleaning or cutting the membrane off the meat. No seasoning put on it whatsoever, only drowned in sauce after it was cut. Their ribs literally taste like smoke and sauce, bland meat, and a couple of our ribs on the slab were not even cooked all the way through. Sides that are sold with the meat are just as bad. No flavor, bland, some of the sides not able to be eaten. Do not believe what you hear from the locals about this place or from the t-shirts they sell, it's horrible. I was born in Mobile, Alabama but spent the majority of my life in Kansas City (one of the B-B-Q capitals of the world). Bottom line: I know B-B-Q. Rodgers can hold its own with the best in the business. I had Rodgers while visiting in town for the holidays and this location is a few blocks away from my grandmothers house so I have been there quite a few times. Usually the order is a rack or two of ribs, this time we also ordered the Mac and cheese. It was as fabulous as the last time had it. The sauce is great. The meat is tender. If I could give no stars I would. Number one, this place is filthy! I do not mean just dusty I mean dirty walls unclean counters and surfaces. I was getting food for my co-workers who swore by this place which, I do not understand why since they have a set price on the board but rang up a different price, They are very rude and act like they are they best when after tasting some of their food I must say they are not. The rib had no flavor and the smoke flavor taste like a fake flavor that comes from adding liquid smoke to the raw meat. My father is a chef and specialized in Lechón, my grand mother had several restaurants in Ohio and my grand uncle made bar b que smokers for a living so I know a good smoked Bar B que and this is NOT the best as their shirts state. The meat is sub par to begin with very small size in the chicken and the ribs are heavily grizzled. The sides were disgusting the Mac and cheese was not cooked properly so that the chees blended into a creamy sauce texture it was gritty and the curds were sperated leaving the mac and cheese to tase oily and flavor less. The peach cobbler was burnt. (I am guessing they used oil and not butter because there was no buttery taste to the burnt crust.) The baked beans were served as they came in the can. the potato salad was the worse thing I have ever tasted the eggs that were in the salad were not even edible and it had sugar added. the only time you need to add sugar to food is when you do not know how to cook and you are trying to get people to eat it anyway. I admit being raised my superb grill masters I am spoiled but One thing I cannot tolerate is a bad sauce.. this sauce taste like it is a water down generic store brand sauce. the staff were RUDE so RUDE! When they rang up my order it did not match what the sign says it should be when I asked the manager about this she stated that the dinner were actually higher than what I paid. I pointed out to her that that is not what their menu board states and she did not have a comment. I do not care how much people tell you this place is good trust me, if it was that good why are they still in a building that looks like it should be condemned? Why can they not hired staff who knows how to speak to people? Who comes into work everyday and looks at the dirty ceiling, walls counters and floors and decides not to wipe them? What kind of manager does not know her own prices? And why does she not have the workers clean up? If I am going to pay $16.00 a plate for food , it better be up to snuff and this place is not worth it. You will have a better meal marinating some meat in Kraft s Bar b que sauce and baking it in your oven than you would eating here. While you are at it also make some box mac and cheese it will taste better than what they call Mac and cheese here. I will be making a call to the Health Dept Monday since one of the people in our group got sick from that nasty potato salad (I warned him it was nasty) I have been to 7 BBQ's in this area looking for a good BBQ plate from a CLEAN place and so far I have just been disappointed time and time again. Sonny's is ok If you ask them to put the chicken through twice other wise it's runny and gross , the brick was ok as well but the sauce is weak and it ruins the smoke flavor of the meat which is great. Next time, I will go back to the Brick and ask for just the smoked meat and put my own sauce on it and finish it up at home But I will NEVER go back to Rodgers. I visited Rodger's B-B-Q because my friend from Mobile raves about it every time we pass through. I got the chicken dinner (half a chicken with 2 sides, bread, and a sweet tea) and she got ribs. They take the already smoked meat and warm it up in bbq sauce so you get warm meat dripping in sauce. If that's the kind of bbq you like you better go get some! We also got the potato salad, mac and cheese, and baked beans. The peach cobbler and banana pudding were delicious. Everything is take out so plan on bringing it home or eating in the car. read more

Best ribs in Mobile. Period. I don't know what Anne G.'s issue with this place is, but I think her review is pure fiction. It's a bbq shack, not a five star sit down restaurant. Smoke taste is definitely there and legit, not from a bottle... in my opinion, great ribs don't need sauce; that being said, their sauce is about average in my opinion. I always order them with no sauce, anyway. Do yourself a favor and try this place out, you'll be glad you did. Leave "The Brick" for people with a vivid imagination, like Anne G. read more
