Half Shell Oyster House - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

The food and service is pretty consistent every time I come into this restaurant. I really enjoy the sauteed crab claws and charbroiled oysters are great appetizers. You can't go wrong with any fish dishes as your entre. Poboys are good as well. As a side, sweet potato crème brûlée is a must. read more

The service has always been good as well as the food! It is our go to place for oysters!!

Wow! Food and service was great! I had the Seafood pasta with sweet potato brûlée. Awesome dish! My aunt had the shrimp and grits it was good, but the bacon made it a little salty. Hold a little bit of the bacon and its spot on! My cousin had the Red Snapper and it delicious! read more

Awesome, food, excellent service, nice atmosphere & it doesn't break the bank. Definitely going back.

Another good seafood choice for Mobile. Half Shell has a lot of choices. I've Had the shrimp and grits and it was okay. I really liked the redfish orleans. The sauce is great. Also, the sweet potatoes are good (almost as good as Ruth's Chris) read more

We entered the restaurant and had to wait 45 minutes for a table. Once we sat down it took 45 minutes to get our order in. After we finally got our order in it took 2 hours to get our food and only after we asked about when our food would get to us. The manger told us the food was coming soon. When the food arrived it was cold. A very disappointing trip because of the great reviews I see. However, I would suggest to try another restaurant unless you have a lot of time to wait on food. read more

Amazing restaurant! Very friendly staff! They give oyster samples at the bar! We had the oyster sampler and shrimp Orleans. And banana foster cheesecake for dessert. We WILL BE back !! read more

I had the seafood pasta. It was good but I did have to add salt. And im very sensitive to salt so I dont usually ever have to add salt to my food. I highly doubt that the shrimp in my pasta was fresh. It had that "chain restaurant" quality. So if you are into the local restaurant taste, this isnt it. Other than that, the food was pretty good and the sweet tea great too. Very nice atmosphere and I definitely see them being able to accommodate large groups. It is absolutely gorgeous in there and the staff are very friendly from the hostess to the guy cleaning the table behind us. They have a happy hour everyday from 3-6 so I definitely will come back for the drink specials and appetizers. read more

Only reason this is getting 4 stars and not 3 is due to the service. The service was great! Food was good, but if you have Oyster's in the name of your business, serve some big oysters. Very small oysters. read more

Enjoyed eating here when in town with family. My husband loved the oysters (I'm not an oyster fan), and we also got a few apps and I had a fresh fish of the day. We waited awhile but he food was great! We will be back next time we're in mobile! read more

Wow wow I don't do oysters but give me a bowl of that jumbo with extra crackers I would really appreciate

Mobile location was Horrible. The food was served cold and we never received our sides. Highly disappointed with the half shell enterprise. The management has clearly lost what's important to their customers. I hope they regain focus. We've had much better experiences at the Biloxi location. Strongly do NOT recommend the Mobile restaurant. read more

This was my first visit to Half Shell Oyster House, and the food was delicious. I had the grilled mahi, cheese grits, and fried okra. We had the jalapeño hush puppies as well. The food was brought out quickly, and cooked to perfection. I would definitely visit again whenever I am in Mobile. read more

Went there based on the reviews. Ordered the seafood sampler (grilled) with salad and gumbo as sides. Salad and gumbo were good. The fish was TINY, three oysters were ok, six shrimp were good and four hush puppies for $29.50. I've gotten better and more at Red Lobster. Also had a mix drink that didn't fill the glass. read more

Must try oyster sampler that had four types including charbroiled and Rockefeller Their raw oysters are always fresh and delicious along with third portobello mushroom with crabcake & seafood sampler platter Consistent in their food and service & a great location! read more

This is my second visit to Half Shell Oyster House. First visit the food was amazing. This time not so much. I had shrimp pasta and it was very blah. And it had like four shrimp with it which was kinda disappointing. Ordered a side of asparagus and it was absolutely tasteless had to send it back. The salad was amazing though. And the service was awesome. My waitress Brittany was amazing cute and had provided great service. Thanks Brittany. Either way I would suggestion going someone else may enjoy it and the cook maybe different. read more

First time here, so we decided to try it out for lunch. Really nice place and plenty of room. Started off a bit slow with the drinks and a server, about a 15 minute wait. Now, after that was settled, everything was excellent. My wife went with the crab claws and I went with the shrimp & grits. Between us, we also ordered the fried okra, Cajun potatoes and the sweet potatoes. As I mentioned, everything was great and we'll definitely be back. I'm thinking about the seafood pot-pie next time. read more

This is the first time I was very disappointed in this restaurant. My yellowfin crab stack had obvious old frozen tuna, the house salad was warm and the seafood pasta lacked any fresh seafood taste. If this had been my first visit, it would be my last. I will give it one more try based on my previous good experiences Also, everytime I have come, I have almost slipped and fallen as their floors are very slippery....a lawsuit waiting to happen read more

My husband and I ate here last night and we were "wowed" by the food and service! Shea was our waiter and his suggestions were right on the money! We began with fried blue crab claws and they were some of the best we have ever had. The cocktail sauce had just the right amount of heat. It complimented the crabs instead of overpowering them. For our main dishes, my NOLA born hubby ordered Blackened Redfish with sides of broccoli and fries. The dish was served with a lemon aioli sauce. The fish was seasoned perfectly, the fries were excellent and the broccoli was cooked just right. The aioli sauce was great on all three offerings. I opted for the Half Shell Salad topped with fried oysters, served with the house Balsamic dressing. I wanted to compare to Acme's fried oyster salad. Look out Acme, Half Shell is giving you some very stiff competition and with the addition of avocados to the mix they may have outdone one of my all time favorites! The oysters were cooked to perfection. Shea strongly suggested the Bananas Fosters Cheesecake and I'm glad he did! We have had this dessert at other places and every time it ended up tasting more like banana pudding than cheesecake. That is not the case at Half Shell. This was truly the BEST Bananas Foster Cheesecake I have ever eaten! We will become regulars at this restaurant! The only challenge was the darkness of our table. Next time we will request a well-lit booth. It was difficult to read the menu or see our food. read more

Half Shell Oyster House was just okay in my book. I read the yelp reviews and was expecting my taste buds to be blown away, but was disappointed in some of the food and definitely in the service. The smoked tuna dip, oysters Orleans, fried oysters, sweet potatoes, asparagus were all great. The remaining oysters in the sampler were just okay. The fried shrimp was just okay. The cocktail sauce was meh. The server was slow, failed to keep our drinks filled, and was even slower with the check. Some of the decor was pretty cool though, like the oyster shelled walls. The food was extremely overpriced. read more

Grabbed dinner here with a friend last night. We lucked out and grabbed a quick couple seats at the bar avoiding the wait. The service was very friendly and knowledgable. We tried the Fried green tomatoes which were ok, Royal Reds which were sweet and delicious with drawn butter, Charbroiled oysters with parm which were amazing, and Grouper and Lobster Oscar and a side of asparagus. The only opportunity for improvement was with the crab cakes which were just ok, but this place has earned a return visit from me. read more

Excellent seafood one of the most premier restaurants in Mobile!Make sure you make your way to the half shell oyster house!

I had dinner here last night and today I'm back for lunch. There were so many choices on the menu, I lamented the fact that I couldn't have them all. Shrimp Orleans is a little bit on the oily side but taste is delish. My husband got the fried shrimp and they were huge. My fav was the voodoo shrimp appetizer. We did the sauce on the side and it was perfect. The salad w avocado and almonds was fresh and light. Gumbo had lots of shrimp. As Arnold says, "I will be back." read more

OMG the best place to get FRESSSSH seafood! I got the poboy shrimp and it was banginggggg! Ive ate at Laps...Felix and all that causeway stuff but Half Shell? THE BEST! Price range is around $20-28. Kinda pricey but soooo worth it! My poboy was only around $11 though. My boyfriend got the pot pie and that was around $25. The pot pie was okay. Oh and do not get the potatoes, not good! The gumbo is okay too.... but seriously the seafood was so good I'll still give this place 5 stars haha. Our waiter was soooo sweet and funny! His name is Miles. Ate at the famed Oyster House, so here goes my review. Overall it was enjoyable and I'd eat there again without hesitation. First, I was with a group and we had a reservation, but even then we had to wait a little bit (15 mins). When we got to our table, we realized we were seated under a vent and everyone was freezing cold! We told our waiter and they promptly turned off the cold air. We had 2 sets of appetizers/starters: the oyster sampler with chargrilled oysters, and the fried green tomatoes and crab cakes. The only thing weird was that we didn't get any crab cakes (and I realized this about an hour later, as I came home and reviewed the menu online again preparing to type this review). Another anomaly came with my meal, when the waiter brought me a salad I didn't order (I had ordered a different side dish). Our waiter was cool and said no problem, I just got a free salad, lol and he made sure they were preparing the side dish I wanted. Throughout the night, as my co-workers and I chatted, we did come to a consensus that the food came out slowly even though the restaurant wasn't that packed (it was filled, but there were empty tables/spots around). So why the 4 stars even though the food came slow and orders not quite right? The food tasted SPECTACULAR. I had my first oysters ever, and they were tasty, especially the Oysters Orleans with the cajun seasoning. The Oysters Rockefeller was ok too. I ordered as my main meal the Redfish Orleans (topped with shrimp and crabmeat), with sides of sweet potato creme brûlée, and jalapeño hushpuppies. The sweet potato creme brûlée was really sweet, and reminded me of whipped sweet potatoes with chunks of brown sugar topping and a scoop of sweet creme off to the side. I couldn't finish all the food. All in all, I would come back for the food any day. read more
