We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised by the wait. Despite the wait, we decided to stay because we knew it would be worth it. They seated us at a long table with people at the other end, but we still had ample space. To started our meal, we ordered a hot chocolate and coffee, along with some of the delicious doughnuts. Those doughnuts were scrumptious, and I even made sure to save one chocolate for after my breakfast. For my main course, I opted for the BBLT, which was an enormous sandwich filled with all the classic ingredients: bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, over-easy egg, and aioli. It was served on a wheat bun with breakfast potatoes, making it a hearty and satisfying meal to kickstart my day. We also shared a giant blueberry pancake, which was a complete meal in itself. I'm still reminiscing about that delicious pancake along with everything else and can't wait to return to this place for another delightful brunch experience!
It was a long wait, but we loved being able to join the waitlist before arriving! The food we got was absolutely delightful with the special for the weekend being a true favorite. Our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu making ordering easy and speedy. Definitely a busy spot, but we didn't feel rushed or too crowded! The inside was a cute little breakfast spot that was perfect for a Sunday brunch. I will absolutely be back in the future (after making sure to join the waitlist!)
Food is very good. I had the chorizo hash and loved it. However, service was subpar and the space is too small for the amount of tables. Not sure if I just went on an off day.
I had not heard of this place. But a girlfriend of mine invited me there for brunch. It was so good. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Fried rice and my blueberry pancake. This is a definite brunch location to visit in Clayton.
This year, when thinking about where I wanted to go to celebrate my birthday, it was a really quick decision for me to make. I knew Half & Half was the only place on my mind! For some reason, the waitlist online was not available so we could not get on the list ahead of time so I am not sure if they took that down or if they just turned it off or what. But that didn't bother me because I was willing to wait if needed. Where Half & Half is located is on a really busy street in Clayton and you really only have the option to find a street parking spot. Maybe you get lucky and find one out front? Or maybe you are like me and need to park 4-5 blocks away and take a little walk. Either way, you can find parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Upon arriving, there were already a ton of people waiting to be seated so I already knew it would be a wait. I talked with the hostess and added my name (party of 2) to the list and was told it would be about 30-45 minutes wait. The restaurant is not very large, so on a cold day, I did not want to wait outside. Instead, I was able to find a little spot in the corner near the bar and just tried to take up as little space as possible while waiting. Eventually, I received the text that our table was ready and so we made our way to the hostess stand (had to make out way through crowds of people who were also waiting) and then the hostess walked us over to our booth for two. It was just perfect for us. Tim, our server came over right away to greet us and offered us coffee or other drinks. Once we ordered, he gave us some time to review the menu and went on his way to grab our drinks. When he came back, we were ready to order, and, of course, I think I had a difficult order, but Tim made it possible and wasn't even bothered by request. I really just wanted a smaller portion of the Clara cake (to share) and then I asked for a scrambled egg and some turkey bacon. I thought this would be a complicated order, but he made it work and I am so grateful for that. My hubby ordered one of the hash bowls with steak. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed coffee and Tim made sure our cups were filled. He even brought over some bailey's for the coffee for my hubby to add since I ordered a mimosa as my cocktail of choice. When the food came out, it was all so fresh and delicious. I legit love the Clara cake so much and it really made my birthday super special! The eggs were super fluffy and the turkey sausage was also good. Since I did not finish my meal, Tim offered to bring over a box and a bag and then he made sure we were all set before he gave us the bill. Since the restaurant was still super busy, we did not hang out for much longer after paying. Instead, we paid, packed up and were out the door. Honestly, the food is always my favorite here. But this visit was even extra awesome since Tim took such good care of us. Servers are busy and I appreciated how he took good care of us. Thanks to Half & Half for the delicious meal and thanks to Tim for the service! I'll be back.
Attentive service. Even with a packed house. Great quaint local, breakfast diner. He tried the lox avocado, toast, fried rice, and breakfast tacos. Can't wait to return to try more!
Came here on a weekend for brunch. It gets very busy, especially on Saturday morning so be prepared to join the waitlist ahead of time. They have street parking outside in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller side so with it getting so packed it can be a little tight if you have a larger group. But it is a nice and cute café vibe. The wait staff was friendly and efficient with service. The portion sizes were good and there are a fair amount of options for non-meat eaters. I definitely had plenty to take home with me. Their pancakes are huge and have a really great flavor!

Short wait list this Sunday! Service was fair, pretty busy, we sat inside, but outside was also an option! Lively atmosphere, great for groups and also fine for solo dining. Food is always great, my spouse always orders the blackberry French toast for the table along with the meal. I also had the cold brew in addition to the Cali Omlette!! Yum

I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. There was no seasoning, not even the everything seasoning that usually goes on top, no balsamic drizzle, nada. It was super disappointing. We finished and then asked for the check. The food was pretty good but overall, I was underwhelmed. It didn't "wow" me like I had hoped it would.
I really appreciate the variety here. I debated between 4 to 5, because I haven't tried many of the coffee options. Since I've only been once, but would return I would say it's worth a visit. So the pancakes, you can order a stack or singular. I was very grateful because I wanted to try it, but with my avocado toast. Not all places have the egg with the avocado and I loved that they offered this. My friend had some type of scramble. They had a miscommunication on chopping her sausage in it, but small hiccup. The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. Exception being, I would skip the house coffee and try a specialty. It may be obvious for locals, but only paid street meter parking options.
I live in Soulard but was in Clayton every morning a couple weeks back and ended up eating here 3 times because I really liked the food and service. I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. I will visit this warm and cozy spot many times over.

The interior of the restaurant is very cute, modern, with a country twist. We were first seated outside and moved inside due to the heat of the day scorching us. I would recommend sitting inside, the restaurant needs outside shading to make the place more enjoyable. Again, strongly suggesting buying an awning or umbrellas for the tables to make great use of the out door space. On to the food, my husband ordered the pork hash skillet. It was served layered with freshly wilted spinach and eggs, served in a skillet. The separation between the layers made for a nice change from the slop of the traditional St Louis slinger. The hash itself was a blend of red peppers, square cut pieces of pork and bacon bits. It all felt very clean and orderly, but a bit lacking in texture and flavor. I had ordered the steak and eggs meal. It was served with grilled asparagus, grilled onions, eggs (my choice of over easy), steak, wheat toast, and topped with a large glow of butter over the meat. The food was overall good, had to add extra salt to the eggs for my personal taste. Overall I'd give the steak & eggs combo a 4.5/5 TLTR; good food, suggest an awning or umbrellas for outside eating. read more

My girlfriend and I were both starving one morning and decided to try a new breakfast spot. That's when we found half & half. When we arrived around 11:30 they said told us it was going to be a 25 minute wait for us two but it took closer to 10 minutes. They sat us at the bar. Service was great! I loved my breakfast tacos and side of potatoes. The iced coffee was also very delicious. My girlfriend got the roasted tomato egg sandwich and loved it too. She got a Bloody Mary which she liked but wished it had more garnishes. Overall amazing breakfast spot #cleanyourplate read more

Great little coffee style cafe with amazing food! The steak was cooked how I asked and the eggs where great aswell. My wife enjoyed hers and together we ate until we where full happy and ready for the next part of the day read more

This was our 2nd time here & returned b/c our 1st experience was wonderful! This time, we beat the Easter Sunday rush & got seated immediately. :) Service was great with kind staff! Menu has a variety of breakfast items, including vegetarian options! In the pic is the vegetarian omelette w/o mushrooms, Tess's toast with lemon curd, oven-baked oatmeal with fresh berries, & the biscuits & sausage. We all sampled each other's food & agreed it was ALL tasty! The honey latte was delicious & a great option when one is not in the mood for regular coffee! read more

Half & Half is one of my favorite dining experiences for breakfast and brunch. I'm back in town on a work assignment and have not been here in three years. As soon as I arrived from California I bookmarked Half & Half on Yelp. It's still here and the quality of service and the menu are still worthy of five star rating. Sorry, I don't see what the hype is about. I had heard so much about this place that when I finally had a chance to get here I was sooooo excited. Well, hmmm. The restaurant itself is not very large which explains why their wait times are extensive. We were seated at a high community table shared with another group, which was fine. I ordered the bacon sandwich with potatoes and I was not impressed. It didn't have much flavor and I wished the potatoes had been cubed just a little smaller. My friend had blueberry pancakes and I'm wondering if they didn't clean the grill too well because there was a hint of some other flavor in them that wasn't very welcomed. Coming from Nashville where brunch is not just a tradition it's the new coolest, must do this place is Awesome! Love the full bar to offer boozy brunch cocktails! They do get extremely busy we waited an hour but you can get drinks from the bar and the food was delicious!! Great portions made from high quality ingredients make every bite delicious. Also the French Toast latte was probably the best I've had! Join the waitlist on Yelp and enjoy some cocktails because it's worth the wait!! Oh and the whole menu is available from open to close on the weekend apparently! read more

First time experience. Super disappointed. Egg and toast breakfast. Waited 25min. (Restaurant was half empty on a Thursday morning). Soaked in oil/ butter. I was not even asked how I wanted my eggs. Came scrambled. I ate despite the fact I like them over medium. Unlikely I'd return. First Watch does a better job, I think. read more

Good: Biscuit&Gravy - sausage gravy was good. Not to salty but full flavor. Crusty bottom of biscuit was plus. Blueberry pancake - This I think is the best of this place. Haven't had good pancake for awhile. I will order pancake dish next time. Veggie hash - veggies were little overcooked. Maybe too much moisture(or wet) on the veggies, or took too long to serve and rested??? But my wife enjoyed it. No complain. Bad: Waiting for an hour for the table is ok. But the attitude of the hostess/reception is not acceptable. Smile!!!! Customers are aggravated waiting as well. 40min wait for the food after orders are in is not good at all. Looks like the kitchen is not ready for the volume. Timing is the most important ingredients for the restaurant business. Bust boy kept grabbing the plate and ask if we were done. Twice. I kept looking at his latex glove. Ask first before touching the plates. Best: lady who served our table. Very professional. Great!!!! read more

A very cute little breakfast & brunch joint, gets very busy on weekends! We had to wait almost 1 hour on Saturday. We ordered Mocha and Lattes - my latte was okay, nothing special. Powder sugar doughnuts - absolutely love it! fresh hot crispy and chewy, perfect pair with my latte! I ordered Chorizo & Avocado Egg Benedict with Potatoes - loved the chorizo, perfect spiciness! My friends ordered ... BLT Omeletes, and Steak & Eggs. I didn't try those, but they look good. I will go back to try other items on the menu. read more

I'm obsessed with this breakfast spot. Their blueberry pancakes are what I dream about every time i'm in STL not to mention the homemade. Blueberry butter. Get it cooked in bacon fat it'll change your life and the way cook pancakes forever. I also got the jasmine peach tea and it was delicious. Honestly I've tried several things and never had a bad experience the food is great and the service is top notch. It gets incredibly busy on the weekends so check the wait feature on the yelp app and you can put yourself in line ahead of time! read more
