Made an appointment with my sister after finding this place on maps for a last minute haircut an got to the studio an was so nervous if it was expensive or not an it truly wasn't that bad!! Terrible haircut by Allie!! I look like a child but my hair. One side is shorter than the other. It's obvious because on one side my ear shows and my hair covers my other ear. I left in tears and still had to pay $45! I will have to wear hats for months. I told her I just wanted a tiny trim because I'm growing it out. She butchered my hair. I'm devastated. Went in for a trim asked for long layers and face framing. Came in after not having had a haircut for like 8 months so knew that there was quite a bit that needed to come off, but wanted to keep as much length as possible (had waist long hair). The stylist cut it up to my shoulders (way more than the 3 inches we had discussed) and didn't blend the layers or face framing. At the end of the haircut she asked if I wanted to wear it curly (naturally curly hair) I said sure and all she did was rewet it and put some cream in it but had me leave with wet hair. As it dried the framing and blunt layers dried frizzy and uneven due to no shaping during the cut. Also now looking at potentially having to spend money on extensions for my wedding as so much length was taken off. Chose this studio due to the high ratings but will not be back. read more

Could've been much better. After moving from another state, I had to find someone to cut my hair and tried Hair Studio 408. I'm a senior executive and haven't been to a barber since I was 13...and didn't want to start now. I have a full head of hair and typically keep it short to medium length - nothing wild or out of the ordinary - pretty much what you'd expect for a man in his early 60's. I first had a cut with Emma which was decent - not great but not bad. I've had much better...but then I very recently had much worse (at this very same salon no less). After Emma I tried another stylist who I won't name but wasn't good. I was a bit startled when before asking what I was looking for she started mowing the sides and back of my head with the trimmer instead of scissors...after about a minute when I reacted she'd already clipped off a lot of the hair on the back & sides of my head. It was much shorter than I wanted and I called her on it. She immediately stopped, went over to another stylist and brought her over to consult about what to do next. The other stylist told her what to do and I left thinking "never had that happen before" and iffy about returning. As it turned out, while the cut was shorter than I wanted, it actually turned out well-enough - I was also used to paying more where I lived previously and thought at least it didn't cost very much. After failing to find another salon and needing a haircut, I thought I'd give her another chance and went back to the same stylist. This time she used a combination of clippers and scissor cut. When she was finished, she asked what I thought and I asked her to thin out what she didn't cut with the clippers because I have thick hair and there was too much hair - it at least needed to be thinned out...so then she thinned it. As I was checking out that day I'd noticed they'd raised their prices significantly and what previously was a consolation - an average cut for inexpensive prices - I left thinking that based on the new increased price that I hadn't yet gotten a cut at this salon that was worth what I'd just paid. Fast forward two days later as I'm getting ready for work, I noticed that my hair was now badly lopsided...on one side I could grab a full handful of hair and on the other there was an inch or less - it appeared that after I pointed out that it was longer than I'd like she'd only trimmed and thinned one side. It was a WTF!?! moment. I showed my wife and her response was "wow...that's bad". I don't think I'm super picky about hair cuts...as a guy my hair grows back in a few weeks but after getting haircuts for six decades, this was the first time I've ever felt I needed to go back to have a haircut "fixed". It was that bad and I didn't want to wait another 4-5 weeks so had to drive the 20 minutes back to the salon to have someone fix it. Side note: As I experienced several times with this business, although they publish their email address on their website and send out reminders with their email address prominently shown as a way to contact them, they don't check their emails. I don't understand what businesses don't get about customer service that they think it isn't a big deal. I don't care if you choose not to provide an email contact method, but if you do then don't waste my time by not responding to the emails you invite! Call me crazy but I think there's an expectation that if you provide email address, you're actually checking your email - but this place doesn't. This happened to me on 3 separate occasions. So after emailing and not receiving a response, a day later I had to call them to schedule a follow-up. So now to complete my experience with this place, when I went back Shamel was tagged to fix what the other stylist did and saw that the cut I was given was a mess. She then spent the next 15 minutes giving me a scissor cut and did a very good job cleaning up what the other person did. I have to admit I was a little annoyed that I had to drive back across town a couple days after just being there and left feeling badly for not tipping Shamel but I also felt that getting what amounted to the worst cut I've ever had and being inconvenienced the way I was didn't warrant me shelling out even more for the experience (very sorry Shamel - but thank you again)! So here's the score: 4 haircuts : 1 save, 1 hit, 2 errors. Not a great average. I get that every business has customer service issues, and everybody has an occasional bad experience even with great businesses, and in this case my less than impressive results seemed to be centered on one out of the three stylists I experienced there. So it could've just been a bad day but a single 15 great experience out of four just can't be considered good. If I'm being generous, I got two decent haircuts and two very underwhelming haircuts. So I've tried them and they didn't meet what I think are basic expectations. Maybe I just need to wear more knit caps here? read more

Hair studio 408 review - I have not utilized any of the other staff. My review is specific to the owner, Elizabeth - In short: Horrific color processing, did not pay a bit of attention to what I wanted done for minor adjustments to a one week old haircut, and took no responsibility for the unprofessional end result. Detailed version for those wanting specifics: I believe it was my 4th and final time patronizing Elizabeth when I had the worst attack on my hair And horrific color experience of my adult life. I initially had a decent experience with her, so I continued through lesser mishaps prior to my final appointment. Elizabeth gave me a mostly good haircut one week prior (other than bobbing the back which I had expressly stated I did not want, and didn't see until I got home, as no mirror was offered). She had also added what was intended to be blond highlights which she said would just take a couple of minutes to process. Fifteen minutes later she returned and said she didn't hear her alarm go off. The treated hair was almost white by then. After seeing what I ended up with when I got home, I rescheduled with her for a week later to have her adjust the over processed hair, and to make "minor adjustments" to the new cut = a bit more shaping along my face, and to soften the severe bob in the back. When I returned Elizabeth recommended, and I agreed to a dark blonde toner to achieve the desired results. As she worked the toner in, my scalp and hair turned fluorescent pink. I asked why and Elizabeth said that was normal, not to worry. Well, my hair turned out flaming red! She said she didn't know why, must be my water at home - it's not. She then used what she referred to as a Remover to get rid of the red. It didn't. After the color shock she moved onto what I clearly and repeatedly requested as my "minor adjustments to my new cut": a light framing around my face and to soften, not shorten the very bottom of the unwanted bob in the back - I again added Not to shorten or texture any other hair (and help up the rest of my hair as a visual) as I liked the rest of the cut and did not want more layers in my thin fine hair. My fault was in not staying vigilant during the "minor adjustments" and feeling confident she knew what I was after. In no time my one week old haircut was chopped to pieces. I again stated I had only wanted minor changes to my new cut. She stopped and asked, so, how long has it been since I cut your hair? She didn't recall cutting it a week prior or anything I had said to her! By then it was too late. When she was finished, and then again when I was at the payment desk, Elizabeth asked other associates what they thought may have gone wrong with my color. She again stated it must be my water at home. Nope. She took zero responsibility for the color or hair cut mess. Said it must have been a miscommunication. I was in semi shock by then between the red orange hair and mega chop job, so I actually paid for the mess and left. After seeing my red orange hair in the light of day and at home, where again, I had my first look at the back "softening of the unwanted bob", and found a chunk of hair in the back that did not get the Remover, and saw the level of chop throughout my hair, I called her and said I was very unhappy with what she did. It was nothing like we discussed or either of us anticipated. I asked for a refund for the unwanted results and cut I never asked for or wanted. Elizabeth quickly stated that she doesn't give refunds, and offered that maybe she could try to fix the color again with a few foils. No thanks. Instead of accepting responsibility and attempting to make amends, she wanted to reprimand me for initially asking about a light brown color instead of the dark blond I agreed to at her suggestion, and for me saying I expected my hair color to look more like another woman who was at the payment desk, or like hers - both were shades of blond, not necessarily dark blonde, but no red or orange to be found. I asked her how my commenting about expecting a blond color was relevant to requesting a refund when she was supposed to have colored my hair dark blonde, not red orange, and not chop it up. No retort. This occurred in Mid February. As a follow up, I have since found (by recommendation) an excellent colorist and stylist. She's working my hair back to something nice, although it will take time for the chop to grow out, she did clean it up. And, no issues with the lovely natural looking colors that compliment my natural color. I rely on reviews of others when I don't have personal recommendations to go by which is why I am sharing my experience for others to consider. read more

I highly recommend to anyone reading this to find another place. This hair studio did nothing to right the situation. They simply said okay bye when I told them we wouldn't be back. I chose this salon because I am new to the area and it was close by and had good reviews. I was in desperate need of a trim and colour. A few grey rots didn't take because we needed to chose a darker shade. My stylist immediately said I could come back the very next day for the darker shade. No extra charge and very happy. I was able to schedule a same-day appointment with Courtney, who gave me a fantastic cut. While I walked through the door with some ideas (better face framing, layers), I had nothing concrete, and I feel that Courtney did a superb job of interpreting my desires and combining them with her know-how for a pretty stellar outcome. I'm not certain that I'll be able to afford to see her as regularly as I would like (cuts for women start at $40 - fair, but maybe more than I can comfortably afford), but if you're looking for someone who can fix a so-so do and who will pay attention to your ideas and to your feedback while she works, Courtney would be a great choice. Plus, Courtney has a great chairside manner: we chatted throughout the wash and the cut, and she seemed engaged and genuinely interested.
