Right across from The Piccolo Hotel, Habaneros is a (not so hidden) gem. Their staff is so friendly and helpful. The food is even better. We can't say enough good things about the chicken enchiladas were perfect. Two accompanied with rice and beans, the chicken was fantastic and plentiful. The taco salad was a large, secretly bottomless dish. Highly recommend the al pastor on top. The hidden rice and beans on the bottom give it a little extra flavor. I'm embarrassed to admit that this was my first visit in the 10+ years I've been visiting Paso. We had been craving tacos all day after a wine tasting server commented on how well Grenache pairs with tacos, so while other folks were watching the end of the holiday light parade we made an early exit for said tacos. I opted for shrimp enchiladas with verde sauce and was not disappointed. After a long day of tasting, this hit the spot. This is the kind of Mexican that I used to get all the time in North Carolina but is oddly hard to find in Southern California. The menu: =========== Front and back, and small-ish. It doesn't have many of the standard fare, but as I learned, you can ask and they will accommodate if they can. For example, the pulled chicken is dark meat listed in the tacos and burritos, but if you want white meat, they can do sliced grilled chicken breast. We've had food from Habaneros multiple times!! It's always been high quality, delicious and generous portions. The staff is very friendly and nice! There's many places in Paso Robles to get Mexican food and Habaneros stands out on the top. I can't eat gluten and recently tried there Taco Tijuana. It was soooo good. The corn tortilla was large (very hard to find anywhere that makes large corn tortillas) and really good. Definitely homemade! Highly recommend Habaneros! read more

As of now this is the best Mexican food we have ever had in the central coast area. I am sad I don't know the servers name(possibly owner), but she was super sweet and welcoming. The food was pretty authentic. I had cheese enchiladas with red sauce. I was quite surprise there was actually a little spice to it! Most places make them bland. So I loved it! I special requested for a spicy salsa and that was delicious as well! The habanero salsa was full of flavor! My kids got bean burritos and they were so big most couldn't finish them. The beans were good, so it wasn't because of that! We come to this area at least two times a year and this restaurant might be a regular stop now! read more

This restaurant has the absolute worst Mexican food I've ever eaten and trust me, I've eaten at Michelin star restaurants and many many authentic San Francisco Mexican restaurants over the years. The quesadillas could be made by a child - they literally stuff a tortilla with cheese and gross cheap steak and that's it, the taste made me nauseous. On a road trip, my bf picked this spot to grab lunch. I think he thought it was a grab and go place but I'd say it's more of a sit down spot, but when I entered the lovely woman working the front asked "for here or to go" so I stuck around and placed an order for us to go. He wanted a burrito and after asking her recommendation between tri tip and quesabirria tacos, I got the tri tip tacos. She told me to take a seat and in the ~15 minutes I waited, all of the tables inside filled up so it seems like a popular spot. Our food came out hot and we ate it right away. We both didn't say anything about our food which means it was neither great nor bad. I found the tri tip to lack flavor and the whole plate lacked spice. Excellent Mexican food! We loved the bold flavors, spice, and heat. The service was also excellent. We were a large group. I had camarones a la diabla (shrimp in spicy hot diabla sauce). My hubby had a chicken quesadilla which was full of cheese and perfectly seasoned chicken. The other dishes were a chicken tostada, potato taquitos, veggie burrito, veggie enchiladas, chicken tostada. Everyone agreed that the food was fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. only 4 shrimp in the fajitas mixto.. that's diabolical, ESPECIALLY for $26 the shrimp looked bland as soon as it was handed to me and bland it was, seasoned with nothing but butter the chicken and carne were pretty good and enjoyable, however the chicken was a tad dry the salsa and chips were very good though however i did add more salt to my salsa but that's just preference the amount of tortillas and beans was un proportional. along with the minuscule amount of cabbage and scoop of guac.. two tortillas, a kids side of beans, and bland rice for a full fajita platter service was great but wish food was better, probably better food in the area read more

We are the fish tacos and a chicken and cheese dish stuffed into a fried pepper. The fish tacos were among the best my wife has tasted and she's had them throughout the country. I liked the stuffed pepper by itself without the tortillas and side dishes. read more

Wow if you go to a place named "Habaneros", you KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE HOT!!! It is higher on the Scoville heat scale but not too hot for many. We were passing through PR on our way to Cambria and decided to stop for lunch. We hadn't eaten in PR in about 7 years and were pleasantly surprised to see quite a few high end Mexican restaurants. It would would several days to eat at them all. We had the Chorizo and Frijoles dip, Queso Birria Tacos and Tacos de Pescado and they were all excellent. The portions are large and the quality is high so the value is actually pretty good. The agave wine Margies were also tasty. The service was good but a little slow, but... it's still covid time. Another great lunch date on the books in Paso Robles. After many people telling us we needed to try Habaneros, we did... and it was great! So good, that I'll forgive the fact that they don't serve proper tequila margaritas. I had the chile verde plate. I didn't think I'd like a verde more than the one served at Su Casa, but Habaneros might just have done it. Plentiful amount of perfectly cooked pork in a beautifully rich sauce.
