The seafood mocaljete was so big! It had shrimp, fish, crab legs, a clam, mussels, octopus and small scallops. I shared it with my son and still had leftovers! It came with a side of beans and rice and a choice of flour tortillas or corn tortillas. I felt guilty that I also ordered flautas. It was too much food! We decided to stop by Papi's because from the outside it looked like a pretty authentic Mexican restaurant. It was lunch time but it was pretty slow. The place was small, but cute. The food was alright. Not great for the price. It wasn't that flavorful, kind of bland. They didn't have much options at the salsa bar. I love a good Taqueria, but this me didn't make my list. Stopped in while driving from Nor Cal to Santa Barbara. The facility looks nice, a lot of themed decor, clean. Salsa bar looked amazing, but all the salsas tasted the same and with no heat. I got street tacos, which had very little meat. Hubby got a burrito that was filled with rice and cheese, and again, very little meat. Prices were high for what you get. read more

stopped in on a Wednesday night as we were staying up the road. with two young children it's hard to sit down but on this warm evening we sat outside. staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. we got the bill and for the portions the food was very reasonably priced. i can't wait to go back to try the Molcajete read more

I have a rule about how good a Mexican restaurant. The authenticity of the food is directly correlated to how run down and in ill repair the building is. This is no exception. They hand made my burrito tortilla's to order. Let that sink in. They HAND MADE my burrito TORTILLA to order. I've ate at a few highly rated Mexican restaurants like La Super-Rica in Santa Barbara and while they always hand make the tortillas for tacos, I've never had them hand make them for burritos. Papi's did and please let them know it's appreciated so they keep it up. I'd imagine a lot of restaurants switch to store bought to reduce costs and decrease time to complete orders. Hopefully Papi's stays true to what got them this 5 star review out into the future. In addition to not having handmade burrito tortillas, I'd also never encountered a Chile Relleno burrito. Papi's has one and it's incredible. If you're looking to try one item on the menu, that would be my recommendation. I'm counting down until I can make time to get back up to Atascadero from SLO to get more Papi's! read more

This is such an exquisite authentic Mexican food restaurant. The food is so delicious and the chips and salsas are so good. I ordered the combination 3 hard shell tacos with rice and beans and a horchata. The hard shells are made fresh and the taco it's self didn't need extra salsa on it. It was absolutely good and the rice and beans remind me of when my mom who would cook at home and also the Horchata is made in house and so fresh. My husband got the enchiladas with chile relleno and if I could eat anymore I would. I will definitely be coming back Papi's is #1. Enjoy guys. The cheese enchilada was very cheesy and delicious as was the chili Releno. when I make them at home I always remove all of the seeds from the stem. But I understand. Many people believe that is where the true flavor comes from. So I'm a bit of a wimp I ordered the chili releno and enchilada combination. The rice and beans Surprised me. Often I feel like they put them on just because it is expected and as a filler. The flavor was delicious. This is why rice and beans are a classica staple! overall you don't get this type of flavor with cheap ingredients this is a Quality restaurant and family-owned $14 for the dinner plate more than fair price My waitress stayed engaged andwas a happy positive person. Not jaded and indifferent as I just experienced at a very high end Mexican restaurant in Monterey. sadly I was too full to try the cinnamon churro's or the rice pudding. Microwaved beans amd rice were like warm at best, not much flavor, luke warm at best. Flautas were good. Burrito had a ton of beans and rice not so much meat. Asada didn't taste fresh. Waitress never came to see if we need more tap water etc. If you get water be prepared for unfiltered tap water. Had to pay up front since she never brought the check Wouldn't come back. read more

We have eaten here several times, with no complaints, we usually have seafood tostadas or tacos. I wanted some salad so ordered a Chicken Tostada. The chicken was terrible, most restaurants use shredded chicken that is moist and tender. This chicken was in small cubes and looked like it had been sautéed to the point of being over cooked then cut up. No flavor at all. The waiter who is very polite, apologized and asked the cook what happened, apparently they marinate chicken, but yesterday he only had frozen chicken so had to use that. Be prepared for a long wait, there is one waiter to do everything and maybe only 1 cook as well. read more
