It's a small shop, serving 3 meals. We stopped in for breakfast and people in here already in the early morning! I got the buddy chilaquiles, which was mild and great for breakfast and my partner got the torta cubano, their specialty, which was flavorful, massive and delicious. I highly recommend this place!

Carne asada and lengua hard taco

I got the lengua and carne asada hard/crispy tacos. The hard shell is good but too oily. Both the meats were delicious and well cooked. The place is small but cute and clean. They have fresh juice. There was a fruit stand outside selling fresh fruit.

Service was friendly and the food was fresh and tasty. The carne asada burrito had tender chunks of beef and the whole beans were very creamy. Also had the potato hard taco and the kid's burrito -- all good!

Chips crispy, salsa tasty, and plenty of cream for my coffee.

Malu's has a sweet, little hole-in-the-wall feel, but their dishes are BIG on taste. Milanesa fans, you've got to try hers - perfectly seasoned and, oh, so tender and flavorful. So tasty, in fact, I didn't snap a pic of it, opting instead to live in the moment. Ordering to-go is a good option - there are only two or three tables inside - but there's plenty of outdoor seating that, weather permitting, we hope to enjoy soon.

Had a great breakfast here. Torta was really delicious with 4 types of meat. Would go again

We went to this restaurant a long time ago and decided to try it again. It is very rustic and there's five tables inside. Most of the tables are outside and if it was warmer, we would've sat out there. The service was good although do not know any names. The coffee was better than some places, but not great. I had machaca and I had not had it in a long time and it was very good. My husband had Carnitas. Both of these were with eggs, beans, hashbrowns, and tortillas. They gave us green chili salsa, and I guess I should've used more to make the meat a little bit more flavorful. I can understand that they don't want to put too many spices in because some people cannot take it.

Awesome Mexican food. We loved AJ's and were sad to see it was no longer around, but when I read some of the reviews (and saw the pics of the food) of the new place, we just had to try it on our way back from Pismo Beach to the Bay Area. It was just as good, probably even better! I had a carnitas torta, which was delicious -- tender flavorful pork, creamy queso fresco, and an amazing bun. Daughter got a breakfast sandwich with bacon and hash browns, and wife got the chicken breakfast plate, both good. We got a big basket of complimentary tortilla chips with homemade salsa to start with. Lots of outdoor seating. Service is really friendly and cheerful. We'll definitely stop by the next time we road trip down south!

I was hesitant to visit after AJ's left, but I'm glad I did! We hit Malu's around 11, so just in between lunch and breakfast. We both opted for lunch and ordered off their specials as they are now featuring weekend bbq! My husband had their tri tip sando and I had their half chicken plate. The tri tip was tender, delicious and well portioned and the chicken was juicy and well seasoned! The patio has been cleaned up a little since AJ's and continues to be a great option for dining! A nice touch as well was house made salsas (rojo and verde) on the table; both very yummy, the red with more heat and the green with more acid. Highly recommend for a visit and I'll be back to try their breakfast options!

    HUEVOS RANCHEROS

Mucho Bueno Breakfast at Malu's!!! If your headed to the Central Coast or on your way back to the Central Valley you must stop by this hidden gem!!! I had the Huevos Rancheros served on corn tortillas with a tasty ranchero sauce with refried beans, golden crisp hash browns and tortillas on the side. My husband had the Asada Breakfast Burrito filled with beans, cheese, and hash browns he really enjoyed it with both salsas on the side. Our food was delicious, the service was friendly and the prices are reasonable we look forward to coming back!!!

California burrito. Perfect balance of multiple flavors

This is a family-owned operation that provides a variety of options to quench your appetite. While there is alot to be desired for the interior of the business, the food more than makes up for it. I ordered the California burrito and can't say a bad thing about it. A great balance of steak, fries, guacamole, and other tasty morsels. We also ordered the quesadilla with chile verde. Oddly the quesadilla came with cheddar cheese, but a good amount of sour cream and guacamole. The menu offers both Mexican and American fare, and some dessert options. For the most part it is your standard Mexican restaurant, but they nail their dish's flavors.

    Wood-Grilled Chicken Plate.

You gotta try the wood-grilled chicken, it's juicy and has a Mexican flavor. The freshly made tortillas are the perfect side, and there's this orange sauce that I don't know what it's made of, but it goes great with the chicken! The owner, Mrs. Lupe Lopez, is super friendly and makes sure everything is perfect. It feels like you're in a small family restaurant in Mexico.

I could barely see the pastries in the case. No worries though, I saw what I came in for. Purchased a French baguette for $3.70. Beyond amazed at the price. Excited to have some with my coffee, I ripped off a piece almost immediately and noticed the nice crust on the outside. 5 stars for the crust!! As for the flavor, it seemed a little flat. It was lacking some of the wheaty-tangy flavor you would get from a longer prove/fermentation. The inside of it was also missing all those nice deep pockets you see in a French baguette. Overall, not a bad baguette, but not one that you yearn for. I'd like to mention the young lady Annabel I had the privilege of meeting outside of the bakery. This makes total sense knowing that the owners came from San Diego and both worked for PPBC. Being familiar with Wild Fields award-winning brews we settled for the flight and then added some food later. Being a West Coast IPA couple, we were not disappointed with their draft offerings. In addition to IPAs, they have a good representaion of other styles, so there will be something for everyone-as long as they like beer. Wild Fields also puts together a home-brew competion, fuly embracing their community and craft beer roots. The winner gets to brew a batch of their recipe on the house system and this ultra low alcohol, smoked wheat beer was one of the most unique beers I've had. For the food, we had pulled pork and loaded mac-n-cheese. Pulled pork was fine, but I'd prefer more smoke flavor and aroma. For loaded mac, the protein is polish sausage-not something I've seen before. While it somewhat works, I don't think I'd order this again. They also had a ticketed comedy show, which we stayed for after the official closing time on a Saturday. It was fun and totally worth it. With their strong local connections and family atmosphere, Wild Fields in Atascadero is worth the detour from SLO and Paso destinations, especially for families.

Maybe it is because we are watching "Yellowstone" on TV, but I was craving the flavor of the Old West, which can still be found in many places around SLO. We returned to Pig Iron Restaurant in Templeton, where we had dined about three years ago when they very first opened up! it was kind of bare and spacious our first time there. It was great to see how they have added to the space and now have room for multiple functions! There's a huge outdoor dining patio with a coffee pick up bar. There's a an indoor dining area where you order your food at a counter. There's also the Club Car Bar with its own separate room. I remembered that Pig Iron sando was good. My husband ordered the Pig Iron. I went for two smoked chicken, Cowboy Tacos, and our friend got a burger. We topped it all off with onion rings. It's the kind of place that you order at a counter in the Merchandise room, then take a buzzer to your table. We commandeered a large booth in the fairly small dining room. It has maybe eight or 10 tables. There is are a couple lounge chairs by the fireplace, which is very cozy on a cool day. By the time our food was ready, the dining room was full. That Pig Iron pulled pork sando is worth the trip! The meat is super tender, and the sauce is piquant and not too spicy. Topped with cole slaw, it is a perfect lunchtime meal. Burger was also nicely done kind of a smashed burger. The tacos were aptly named Cowboy Tacos, as I felt that they were gringo tacos. They were bland, since they didn't have sauce on them and the chicken was in tiny chunks and not shredded. The onion rings were crispy and fun to dunk in the Ranch dressing. We hunkered down cowboy style and enjoyed our meal, talking about about outer space and the moon trip while enjoying our food in the cozy ambience of an evocative historic setting!
