    Gyu Cheese Curry and Takoyaki
    Rachel N.

I stopped by Gyugyuya when visiting Pacific Mall for lunch. Still many tables in the food court are taped up and unusable due to social distancing, so make sure you have seating before you order! I ordered the Gyu Cheese Curry and Takoyaki on the side. It was quick to be made, and overall was good. Some parts of the meal were cold like the hard-boiled egg, but the beef and cheese mixture was good but a little plain. I think the Takoyaki was my fav put of this meal, which says something about the Gyu Cheese Curry. I would visit the other Gyugyuya locations over this food court location, but overall not bad for a quick lunch.

Be warned, not as good as other Gyugyuya locations. It is indeed the food court version of the chain. Their sitting space was bleak - uncomfortable chairs and no hooks or room to put your jacket or belongings (hello, this is a mall). The beef was dry and seemed like it was sitting out precooked for a while. Presentation isn't that great as I don't see any curry before digging in. No water is served but there is miso soup.

    Ton Katsu Curry - $12.99

[LOCATION] - 5/5 This place is located on the 2nd floor of Pacific Mall on Steeles Ave E and Kennedy Rd. There were ample parking spaces in the lot now that Market Village and a bunch of restaurants in the area closed down. [SERVICE] - 3/5 Average. The staff took our order and gave us a buzzer that rang when our order was ready. [DÉCOR] - 3/5 Simple, clean, and new because this place opened a few months ago. [QUALITY] - 2/5 Underwhelming in comparison with the actual Gyugyuya restaurant in downtown Toronto. Meat was not juicy and gravy tasted slightly sour. [ORDER] - 2/5 - Ton Katsu Curry - $12.99: pork was dry and Katsu was a little soggy. The gravy also tasted a little sour and was overwhelmingly thick. [OVERALL] - 2/5 I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, did not reach my standards because I actually really like the food at the Gyugyuya location on Yonge St. and Dundas.

I tried one of their most popular dishes here which is the curry Katsu with the rice. Not really that blown away by it. The curry had a beefy flavor and the curry was mild. Rice was on the mushy side. The egg that it came with was cold and i could have done without it. The katsu on the other hand was crispy. Downside oily and a bit fatty cut of meat. After eating the whole thing I kind of felt sick to my stomach. Maybe if you're going to try to eat this share it with someone.

Food 3/5 Their curry is different from the other places. It tastes more like a strong beef flavour aftertaste, and a smokiness throughout the curry. Since we ordered takeout, the rice was separate from the curry. The meat itself was a little dry. The pork and chicken needed the curry. My guest and I were thinking that they probably didnt change the frying oil in a long time when they were making our pork and chicken katsu. The cashier and the cooking staff were very young and looked somewhat unenthusiastic when we ordered. When we tried to ask them about what they offered since it was our first time, they had a dead stare on their face as if they didnt want to be working there. Overall I would try a different location, either the one downtown or the one at Midland and finch. The curry is probably the same, but the cook of the meat is probably more tender at the other locations.

wonderful selection of food. really big portion but it's so tasty! Free wifi in the mall. It's pretty expensive. My dish came out to be over $15 for 1 dish, no add-ons. Would come again once I graduate and be making more money ;)

We really love Japanese curry so we decided to give this place a try. We tried the Tonkatsu Curry ($11.99) and it was mediocre. Portions are generous and big enough to share.

I would prefer to go to the Dundas location than the Pacific Mall one. The taste was all there but the quality of the food was subpar- disappointing even. The pork was battered and seasoned nicely but the meat itself was chewy, tough, and hard to swallow. The rice was also nicely doused in the curry but the rice itself was really mushy- a simple press of my wooden chopsticks would have smushed it. The service wasn't bad, wait time was ok (does get busy since it's PMall).

I loved the Tonkatsu Curry i had, the curry was SO flavourful and different from any other curry that I've tried. It tastes so good on rice! The tonkatsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Definitely recommend Gyugyuya to anyone that can't decide what to eat in the food court.

Looked terrible, tasted terrible. Why the hell was my egg shredded? Chicken was greasy, lumpy and chewy.

Wow the food here is awful. The only reason I even ate here was because I have low blood sugar and was about to pass the fk out at Pmall. Gyugyuya is one the first thing you see when you walk into the food court upstairs and I really wanted Fat Ninja Bite (it's down the street) but because I was about to d-i-e I settled for this. The food looked sad as hell. The chicken was chewy and over cooked. I was expecting white meat for some reason? But yea.. no. The small Asian guy who worked at the counter was miserable af like his cat just died. Do yourself a favour and save $13.55 for Fat Ninja across the street.

Had the pork Katsu curry and it had generous portion pork that covered my whole bowl. Good value and good taste.

The curry is too salty. I believe it would be better if more salad and less curry are served in one dish

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Was worried it wouldn't be filling, but it's just the right amount of food. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a traditional Japanese meal, this would be my spot. The sushi chef was very friendly and approachable, but he wouldn't make you feel like you need to yap with him like other omakase I've been to in Toronto where they would talk to the customers a lot. The wait staff was attentive and polite. Overall really good quality sushi, service and value. Would come again! I also appreciate that they don't require a deposit for reservations and don't require to pick the set you want beforehand. Very clean and warm design. Felt like I was in Japan!

Enter either you own info if paying separately or the same info if one person pays all of it. Lots of new dishes as well as old favourites: Chochin: Tried it. Not a fan. Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
