Absolutely delicious food and drinks! My friend and I sat on the rooftop and the ambiance was out of this world. We had the Pan Roasted Branzino, the Lacquered Half Chicken, the Crispy Chicken Briouat, and the Village Salad. All incredible and so full of flavor. We seriously had to take a moment of silence for how good the fish and chicken were. The pita was amazing as well in addition to the wine and cocktails. The server had excellent recommendations and was so attentive. We will definitely be back when visiting the DC area. read more

Ambiance, Food and Service were all top notch. Every dish was fantastic! Will be back again soon .

What a bizarre experience. We visited here last year and had a 6 out of 5 star experience. A year and a half later, though, we were sorely disappointed by the miscommunication from kitchen to table. Our server was very kind and apologetic but we ordered gluten free items and repeatedly received gluten-filled ones instead. Then we got 3 repeat items that we only ordered one of. We sent them back to the kitchen before they were placed down with us so I hope they did not go to waste. The cauliflower dish was completely cold, perhaps because they were waiting on the other items they incorrectly brought with it. Missing allergies multiple times with the same table is significant and even dangerous and we didn't even have a manager come by to follow up. Another things to note is with these being small plates you need to spend a lot to make this meal satisfying. Unfortunately, we do not plan on returning here. read more

Okay this place was such a hit!!! 13/10 for sure! Ambience was great, service was great, drinks, and not to mention the food was amazing!!!! Everything I ordered I was amazing. The hummus and pita was also great. I felt full but light work the food and not sluggish at all. Can't wait to come back again!! read more

The only thing keeping this from a 5 is the fact I reserved rooftop, only to discover that in fact the rooftop was under construction not to be done until April. This was a disappointment. The food and the service was not. High lights were Hummus bil Lahme (amazing!) and the Smoked Duck Prosciutto. The blue cheese was also worthy of an honorable mention. read more

Service, check. Ambiance, check. Drinks, check. Accommodations for dietary restrictions, FAIL. So yeah, the hype is what drew us over to Gypsy Kitchen, and of course, we sat on the beautiful roof. We started with cocktails, then I ordered a round of hummus and cauliflower. The waiter understood I had both dairy and gluten allergies and offered to bring me veggies to dip in the hummus. Solid guy! Then things got weird. I asked about 5 different dishes and he said he couldn't change them, I mean, didn't even check with the chef...it was unheard of and quite awkward. So I was left with no choice, but to order another round of cauliflower. For a restaurant that prides itself in its food, I was quite disappointed by both the hummus and cauli, since that was basically my dinner. Again, cool spot for drinks/vibes, but avoid it if you have dietary restrictions and don't want to leave you slightly hungry, but slightly full of cruciferous veggies and hummus. read more

This place has been in my bookmarks for a while now and I was finally able to go. First off the decor is very cute boho vibes, I wasn't able to check out the rooftop, but I'm sure it's nice as well. We had three tapas; hummus and lamb, beef kebab, and tikroketes (sp) and the cheesecake for dessert. Everything was soooo good! The lamb was tender, the kebab had a good spice to it, and the croquettes were savory sweet. I will definitely be back to try more. read more

Was in DC on business for 2 weeks this month and stayed at an airbnb not too far from U Street corridor of restaurants and shops (which were all new to me since moving from DC 20 years ago). Anyhow, love small plates and the menu and descriptions posted at Gypsy Kitchen peaked my interest. Had dinner there with a friend. We split 4 small plates and each had a few craft beers. Our server was wonderful (name not recalled, but the receipt listed her as "Ky G"). We started out with the Green Goddess Salad, recommended by her to accompany the Pulpo. Both were excellent, but round 2 was even better, duck confit and a plate of roasted broccolini. I am a huge fan of duck confit but this was one of the best in recent memory and GK's version of roasted broccolini was the best I've ever had. I will be back next trip down--a new DC favorite. read more

Best server ever- JULIO! Phenomenal service. Food is amazing. Well worth every penny. Make sure to get Julio though. He'll make your party fun! read more

This restaurant is just open not too long ago. It's beautifully decorated and give you that Bohemian vibe. It has outdoor seatings and rooftop seating on first come first serve basis. The workers are top of the line, friendly and attentive. Parking is a bit hard especially during weekends so prepare to come early. They have interesting cocktail selections and the food are good too, a little bit pricey for this type of restaurant. It's worth a try, expanding your taste buds. read more

This place was on our list to check out! Was going to sit on the roof, but it got windy and the heaters were not on. Other than that, our service was great! Our server Julio gets an A+!! He explained the menu very well and gave us great recommendations, with consideration of my date's GF diet. Food was amazing (Ciopinno, Gambas, and Chicken Kapama were superb!), our table and seats were comfortable, crowd was fun to watch...perfect date! read more

HAPPY HOUR IS SUCH A GREAT DEAL!!! The spritz is so good and the appetizers served during the happy hour is great.

Always 10/10 when I go to Gypsy, it if my favorite place to bring visitors whenever they come to the city

Loved it! Came here for brunch with some friends and the food was so delicious. Loved the espresso martini-ish drink. Great service too!

3.5 stars. The place is pretty and the food is good. We tried the croquettes, shrimp, mushroom bread and the tuna. The tuna was my favorite. The croquettes rated like Tostinos pizza rolls with too much oregano? The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the bread was well balanced. The sauces were a mixed bag. The shrimp sauce, bad. The croquette sauce was good and the tuna sauce was great. A nice meal all in all. I'd definitely go back. read more

Wow!! Reminds me of my time in Madrid; the food was fabulous, drinks were delicious and aesthetically pleasing. 11/10 would recommend Gypsy Kitchen for a tapas night- you have to get the crispy chicken briouat and the hummus bil lahme- the roasted lamb shoulder will melt in your mouth!! read more

I have been here for brunch twice and both times were fun. Food is good and the drinks are strong. Service is a tad slow, also they need to do better with their coffee. Not sure what kind of coffee they serve, but unless you are intentional and specific about how it should be brewed, you will get a slightly fragrant, coffee coloured cup of hot water. read more

Great food. Great vibes. Julio provided great service and everything else was awesome. One of my fav places.

Amazing spot for brunch - everything coming out of the kitchen looked gorgeous. Our shakshuka and French toast were top notch, and had great recommendations from Julio who served us. Definitely coming back again to eat the rest of the menu! read more

I came here with out-of-town guests. Nice ambience and atmosphere. We ordered a lot of food, but I most enjoyed the hummus w/ tender lamb, beet salad, chicken / orzo, and the Basque cheesecake. read more

We loved our first experience at Gypsy Kitchen. Our server, Julio, was very professional, yet warm & attentive. Our food arrived fast which was fantastic, since we were with our 4 year old . We enjoyed our cocktails (La murga & Fall for anything) as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. Our faves were the hummus, loukoumades and the Tunisian chicken sandwich. We will be going back for dinner with friends ASAP! read more

As soon as I walked in, I loved the vibe and decor of this place. My positive first impression never waned because of how awesome the food was. The first floor looked cool, but we ended up on the second floor, which was even better. With awesome lighting, plenty of tables, and the nice outdoor patio space (it seemed covered and heated, but don't know this for sure), I LOVED the second floor. We ordered the following: 1. hummus and flatbread- hummus was super delicious and the bread was fresh and hot. Definitely recommend 2. mushroom toast- this was good, but not our favorite. It could be because we're not a huge fan of goat cheese. 3. lacquered half chicken- this was fantastic! Perfectly cooked, super moist, and flavorful. The pickles on the side were the perfect balance to the chicken. 4. crispy cauliflower- another delicious and flavorful dish and perfectly crisp! Everything was flavorful, and some of the dishes had flavors that seemed unique--definitely distinct from most typical restaurants. I highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more

Amazing venue! The hummus with lamb is to die for!!! Overall food was great with the exception of the Cripsy Cauliflower (only reason for 4 stars) and their cocktails were unique and taste just as good as they looked. Definitely will be returning! read more

"The most disappointed meal we've had in DC" was the quote of the evening unfortunately. We had a reservation for 5pm. Arrived a few min early was told to wait 10 min until our 5pm reservation. 40 minutes goes by and nothing. No word from the hostess no update or anything. Baffling bc every table was empty..? Everyone in the lobby was confused as to why no one was being acknowledged. Finally right before giving up and going across the street I asked the hostess if there was an update on our table. She said she had to go organize something then left. She came back and said our table was ready. So if I didn't go up and ask how much longer would we have waited for our reservation in an empty house? Then we're told the happy hour menu is only available in the bar and you can't order it in the main dining room that's literally 10 feet away...what? Another couple across from us was so confused. A.) It's dumb to have happy hour restricted to one portion of the restaurant B.) This would have been good info for our host to tell us as an option instead of wondering if our reservation was going to be honored for 40 minutes. Okay whatever as long as the food is great it can erase all the weirdness. We ordered several small plates (no issues with the portion sizes we knew what we were getting) but sadly the food was so so not as good as it looked. It was really disappointing to have the food look so good but fall so flat on flavor. Jamon Serrano tastes like it was wrapped in plastic. Was not standout at all we would never go back. $75 (with 20% tip) for 4 small plates that tasted mediocre. DC food tax plus Gypsy Kitchen 3% service charge brings it to 13% before even tipping!? Our sever was great he was the only good part of the evening. Everything else was disappointing especially for the price. DC mostly sucks in general for their food scene but man this made us not want to leave the house again. read more

This place is only getting 4 stars because when we went on a Sunday evening, they had stopped serving a lot of the items on the menu. I really wanted to try the duck, but unfortunately didn't get a chance to. We did try the fried cauliflower, which was a bit bland. Overall the dish was underwhelming. The cheese balls were AMAZING on the other hand. We also tried the crispy chicken which was great. The lamb moussaka was TO DIE FOR. The lamb melts in your mouth and the sauce it was paired with was great. The drinks were beautifully made and tasted delicious. We also had the chocolate pavlova for dessert which was delicious. The perfect amount of sweetness with great textures. Definitely would recommend this place and will definitely be making my way back to try the other menu items very soon! read more

Food was amazing. Great hummus! Crispy cauliflower and kabob was excellent. Scallops was by far our favorite! Drinks are great too.

Absolutely wonderful! First, I'm still in the outdoors-only phase of restaurant dining during this pandemic, and Gypsy Kitchen has the best rooftop/patio in the neighborhood. Second, bourbon is my jam, and both whiskey cocktails on their menu are phenomenal! Third, the hummus, snapper, and tirokroketes were perfection. Finally, our server, Julio, masterfully and graciously hosted our visit with confident and spot-on recommendations. We were in good hands from start to finish, and I'll be lucky if he's our server when we return. I'm so glad Gypsy Kitchen is in my neighborhood! read more

I celebrated my birthday at Gypsy and had a beautiful experience! I loved the coziness of Gypsy! Tomas was our server and He was AMAZING!!! Very patient, kind, and attentive to us. Hands down best restaurant in DC. I'm obsessed. It's hard to walk out of a DC restaurant for less than $75. My husband and I have gone to Gypsy Kitchen twice now and ordered our fair share of apps for $50!!! Incredible feat, Gypsy Kitchen. Get the hummus. I dream about it at night. read more
