Chicken strip joints have multiplied like rabbits in Tallahassee since I wrote my last review of Guthrie's. Not quite as bad as mattress stores but close. Regardless, Guthrie's is still my favorite of all the options since Shane's closed a few years ago. They just taste good y'all. This is the k.i.s.s. rule incarnate. Don't come here if you don't want chicken strips because that's all they sell. Don't expect multiple side options either. It's slaw and fries and nothing else. Both sides are pretty tasty but it appears "double fries" is a thing. Now that box will cost you $10+ these days but a lot of food prices are higher and it is a lot of food. There is a nice and roomy dining area inside and a tight little drive through. There is a Dunkin' next door that shares a parking lot with them. We drive through these days and service is usually pretty good and quick. Always friendly. If it takes a little longer, like our last visit, that just means everything is hot and fresh. I'm pretty sure impatience will not make the chicken strips nor the fries cook any faster and I definitely prefer my food cooked done. read more

I'm not a chicken finger person. So there's that. But for 1 a.m. in Tallahassee, there's Wendy's, Whataburger, and Guthries. So I went to Guthries. As chicken fingers go, they were large and pretty good. Very much like Cane's. Almost exactly. Which means, they were ok. They did serve a lot, very filling. And the fries were good. Trying this place on a recommendation and I can say I enjoyed the food but it wasn't anything I would go out of my way to try again. It was cooked to order which was fine with me. It was hot and tasty along with the fries. We asked for our fries to be a little crispy and the team gladly obliged. For me the chicken could have been seasoned a little more. My favorite chicken tender in town, besides Smitty's, which was over salted last time we went). Sitting in line, watching one car take so much time, sitting at the window through 2 songs and an NPR show..... Oh, boy! They are getting fried hard. They finally get their super crunchy hockey pucks and drove off happy. The car ahead of me zoomed through. My order was ready when I got to the window. That meant it was already cooked, two cars ahead. Paid and got my box. Popped it open for a fry-snack. Light gold, limpy and cold in the middle. Then, I saw these poor overcooked crunch monsters with dry insides. Yep, they were cooked with the hard fry order and dumped on me. Y'all have done so much better on my monthly orders in the past. While there may be adverse reviews for this spot, this is by far a Tallahassee Must. The city is known for this place. They serve literally 1 thing. its called a Guthrie's Box or Gut Box as locals would call it. You can even substitute anything in the box for another item so inside the box you get chicken fingers, fries, and a piece of toast and slaw. but if you want extra fries and no slaw, tell em and they will swap it. They also have a signature sauce here. its a bit like mayo or thousand island but its something addictive and probably laced with MSG lol. Overall this is a MUST GO when in Tallahassee and the best after work meal, after happy hour, after anything food to grab. worthy of the wait etc. read more

I've been traveling back and forth to the pan handle and the gulf states because of work for the past few months and every trip in and out I make sure to stop here. This place has definitely perfected the Chicken Finger. It's so so good. Love the fries and the sauce. You can double the fries or the toast with no slaw or even the sauce. This is solely for the North Monroe location. Guthrie's specializes in chicken fingers so I have a hard time understanding how I could order 2 boxes and neither box had a chicken finger. Neither box! There was absolutely no cars in the drive thru line and there was no one in the restaurant and yet the most important component of my order was absent. This is the second time I have gone there in the last week and something was omitted. Last time it was my drink and I had to go back and get it. They are incompetent! If the short fat girl is working, rest assured something will be wrong with your order. She is 2 for 2 in screwing my order up. My order is bagged up on the counter when I arrived and neither box contains chicken not to mention half the sauces I paid for were missing. I have been going to Guthries since they opened in the nineties but I will never go again. Try hiring some employees who aren't complete morons! read more

The menu is simple chicken fingers or chicken fingers. Got the box and a drink $9.75. But the chicken fingers are very tender and tasty. Lots of food in the box. No ketchup offered. Their special Sauce. The problem I found is you get faster, better server at the driver though. Dinning area very clean but boring. Cleanliness gets it 4 stars. Yikes were nice. I'd recommend Gurthrie's if you go through the drive through and then park and bring you food inside to eat. Or you will be waiting a long time. read more

I'm a Guthrie's convert for sure. I have been to this location and the Tennessee one and both are great. This location is definitely the newer one, but same great food. I get the box with no slaw/extra toast. I love that the menu is so simple and you don't really have to think a lot when you're going here if that makes sense. Sometimes, it can get overwhelming to have a 4 to 6 page menu right in front of you so it's nice that you can count on Guthrie's to come through with the chicken and fries. Simple, really good, and inexpensive. This is a win for me and I will keep coming back! read more

Have never eaten at a Guthrie's before. Even after having passed by their Tallahassee locations many times in my several months in Florida, it never dawned on me that this was a chicken restaurant. But when I decided I was in the mood for chicken and another branded chain showed poor to mediocre ratings on Yelp, I found this. My concern that my order was not coming out quickly was soon overtaken by my discovery that my food was coming out fresh, hot and made to order. That's a good thing! The dipping sauce is unique and interesting. The food is good, though not remarkably so. Odd that there was so little business on a "Sunday-after-church" hour. It has been maybe 8-9 years since I have been to Gutherie's. It was one of the only places that an old employee would eat at. I mean the chicken fingers are pretty good but nothing special. They have chicken finger and nothing else. Oh yea they have chicken sandwiches too. That the chicken strips with a couple of pieces of bread thrown in the box. When I was talking about Gutherie's today at work everyone looked up and said oh you got a gut box ha. Yep I did it got 2 gut boxes and they were enough to fill me up. Absolutely the best chicken I've had. I used to frequent this establishment at least twice a week while I was in college, and I have missed it since relocating to Colorado. Well, as usual Guthries serves a first rate chix tender sandwich. Today, I chose the bun. Fresh, grilled but soft and the perfect compliment to three large hot juicy tenders. Fresh lettuce and some Guth sauce and your a'll in all, another good quick meal.good to go. The fries today weren't as outstanding. Not so freshly cooked and somewhat soggy. The dining room is a little off putting in that there is a feeling of sterility, not a welcoming place to dine. It saddens me to write a less than stellar review about Guthrie's. I've been a Tallahassee resident for the better part of the last 30 years and there's no better place for chicken fingers and the OG dipping sauce anywhere in town. This past Monday, I stopped by the newer location on N. Monroe for a late lunch (around 3pm or so). I ordered my usual chicken finger box with an extra sauce, sat down at the window/counter and within a few minutes, my order was called ready at the main counter. I dug into a chicken finger to start and it clearly wasn't the usual "piping hot" temp that I've grown accustomed to but they were definitely hot enough to eat. The fries were another story...barely warm and absolutely not edible. No big deal though, it's well after the normal lunch rush and sometimes "shit happens". I waited for a couple to finish ordering at the counter and then approached the same person who took my order and let her know that the fries weren't hot and requested a fresh order. Here's where you would think that a "sorry sir, let me get you some hot fries" would be the appropriate response to my situation but that's far from what I got. The first words out of her mouth were how long did I have the fries and why did I wait so long to bring them back? I was a bit stunned by her response and let her know that it wasn't more than a few minutes from the time she brought my order to the counter and I tried them...also waited for her to take care of the next guests order. Her next response was that they do not have any hot fries available and I would have to wait. She still has yet to offer anything close to an apology and was borderline rude. I go back to my seat, finish the rest of my chicken fingers before they got cold and polished off the slaw that I usually wouldn't finish. About 8-10 minutes later, she walks around the counter with a bag of hot fries and says that her manager said to not wait so long the next time. This is where I felt my blood pressure start to skyrocket and I had to just bite my tongue and try not to cause a scene. I asked to speak to a manager and was told they just left for the day. I called the next morning, asked for a manager again and was told that there was none available, so I left my name and number and politely asked for a call back as soon as possible. Fast forward to 6pm today and still haven't heard from a manager (shocker), so I called them. Spoke to I believe a shift manager named Ally (not sure of the spelling) and let her know the details of my negative experience. She was apologetic and said that she would address my concerns with the GM. I truly hope she does and that they coach the employee that gave me the worst customer service that I've had in a long time. The only reason I didn't give this place one star is out of respect for that damn sauce that is so freaking good! read more

Well I just got a sandwich from there, and am not a great fan of their sauce ordered it without. When I got back to work and open the box the sandwich was soaked with the sauce, it was more of soup sandwich. Half the fries were soaked in the sauce also. Instead of being professional and offering to get the order right, they debate whether they got the order wrong even the the receipt reflects the correct order.
