Ive been here 4 times now, of the couple bbq chains in tally its best bang for buck, however, their brisket is dry and flavorless, there is no difference between lean vs fatty brisket. If i were to compare it to the bbq places in Austin Tx where i lived its comparable to a home cook starting to cook brisket for the first time. The burnt ends are really good and the sausage is too. The fries are smackin and the mac is average. If your landlocked here in Tallahassee its one of the better places. But every other sunday theirs a vendor set up at the front of sams club that clears this. read more

I had a taste for barbecue and was near four rivers, so I stopped by. It has been a while since I've been there, so I was surprised that everything was an up charge. They didn't allow ribs in the combo. They charged more if you ordered brisket (and they didn't tell me that when I made the order), they said it was an up charge if you ordered corn as a side, and they even charge extra if you wanted cornbread. If you're up charging for all aspects of the meal, wouldn't it be easier just to raise your prices? And, when you raise your prices, give enough food to make it worth it. read more

Since I love barbecue I thought I would try somewhere new to take my daughter. I prefer table service to ordering at a counter, but I was able to see all of the choices behind the glass. Because I could see how good the ribs looked, I ordered them with the brisket. My sides were green beans and macncheese. The meats were delicious!! They both exceeded my expectations. The sides were ok but once I ate the meat was full anyway. My daughter enjoyed her pork sandwich and Texas sheet cake very much. The restaurant was clean and well thought out. Everything we needed was readily accessible. My daughter especially appreciated the origin story of the restaurant. While BBQ isn't exactly my preferred type of cuisine, from time to time, a craving hits that you just cannot ignore. This is precisely what happened and how we found ourselves at 4 Rivers. Add that to a massive case of the Mondays where neither of us felt very domestic et voilà. It was admittedly expected given all this backstory. Anyhow, we made it with half an hour to spare. We chose to split a full rack of ribs and some sides. The sides we chose were the macaroni and cheese, the green beans, and the French fries. The side were whatever. The cheese in the macaroni tasted bland, the green beans were flavored decently but no amount of flavor could get me to love them, and the French fries could've been hotter. Still, the ribs were on point, just falling off the bone. Consider the two desserts we bought (i.e., the chocolate chip cookie and the blueberry cheesecake) and we were happy campers. Enjoy this chain quite a bit. Probably my preferred for BBQ. Still, it's a once in a blue moon deal. The food is just so horribly fattening. read more

Tried the burnt ends. Just tasted like charred processed sweet grocery store bbq sauce. Was not impressed with their sauces at all. Tried the regular and hot. Both were really sweet and bland. They serve the platters on a tray with a paper liner. If that's the presentation style, I was missing a piece of plain white bread on the platter. Kept feeling like it should be there. If this were served at a non-bbq restaurant at the proper temperature, I'd have thought it wasn't too bad. Coming from a bbq place, I was not impressed. Was glad to see they had Texas Pete and pepper vinegar available. Best thing about the place was that they had Cheerwine as a fountain drink. The outdoor seating area was nice. The location is convenient. A few things inside made me think they are pretty involved in the local community. Wish the food had been a little better. I ordered some takeout, and the food isn't that bad it's actually pretty good. However, I ordered barbecue sauce and I got this tiny little itty-bitty thing of barbecue sauce. During my visit in Tallahassee I went here twice. Both times I phoned in and picked up at their walk up window outside. They also had a curb side pickup option which is nice. For my first time here I got their brisket, pulled pork, 1/2 ribs, and sausages. They were all delicious. The brisket was the best one. It was juicy and tender. The pulled pork was also very good and both of them were still good the next day. The sausages were nice and mildly spicy which I liked. The meats also came with mac and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, jalapenos corn bread and bread pudding. Everything was good except for the corn bread which I didn't care for. The bread pudding was really good and had a nice cinnamon glaze on top. It was perfectly sweet. The portion was huge and I had left overs for days. The second time I came I got their Smokehouse 2 x 2 which included brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and burnt ends. The pulled chicken was really good and seasoned perfectly. I had it with their signature sauce which was delicious. The burnt ends were a little dry though. The dish came with coleslaw, mac n cheese, french fries, and bread pudding. Fries were a little soggy but not bad. Service here was quick both times. Portions are large for pricing. I would totally come back again and recommend. read more

We did an UberEats order one night while visiting Tallahassee / FSU. The meat was juicy and not dry (even after being ordered via car), and the bbq sauce with the non-stale bread, makes it a winning BBQ sandwich. The sweet potato casserole is a solid side choice, though not the best I've had.... and same with the green beans! Generally one can get in and out of here for a quick lunch. We ordered, ate and exited in 30 minutes. We ordered a 6 shooter, which was tasty. I didn't care for the pickles, found them a bit too sour, but the jalapeños gave a nice kick. The inside was comfortable and not noisy, so conversation was easy. On a recent trip to Tallahassee, our family decided to dine at 4 Rivers. Friends of ours who had recently moved their son into school, highly recommended this restaurant. This place is similar to many bbq places in that you order your food at the counter and bring your tray to the table. I went with the Burnt Ends sandwich along with sides of Mac & cheese and bread pudding. The sandwich with the bbq sauce on the table was very good. Mac & cheese was ok, the pudding was outstanding! My family and I went here for dinner Saturday night during our weekend visit to Tally. 4 Rivers isn't the best I've had in a chain BBQ place but it was decent. We arrived a little before 6pm. I went with a two meat platter with two sides. Pulled pork and smoked sausage with fries and coleslaw. You go down the line and order your food. The employees mark your tray and pass it down the line. All 6 of us ordered our meals and $80 later, we took a seat. Starting out with my meal, the pulled pork was decent. It was juicy and you got a decent portion. There was a little fat in it but not much. The only thing it really lacked was flavor. No salt, smoke or anything that I got from this. The bbq sauce I doused it in redeemed it. The smoked sausage wasn't bad. Decent portion. The skin had a little pop to it, the inside had a good consistency and had flavor. I dipped this in their mustard bbq sauce and I enjoyed it. The coleslaw was typical. It had the flavor it should but was nothing outstanding. The fries took a little while to come out since none were fresh and ready at the time we ordered. Therefore, they were crunchy and hot when I got them. They lacked salt but were good. I tried a few items from my family. My brother and dad got the burnt ends. They were super smoky, flavorful and meaty. After tasting these, I wished I had ordered it over the sausage. I also tried the mac and cheese my fiance had as a side item. It was creamy, cheesy and flavorful as well. It was good and I'd get that over the coleslaw next time. Overall it was a good experience. We were at orientation at FSU this week. Walking in the parking lot, I saw a car with 4R bumper stickers. We had been in a BBQ rut after visiting UA a few months back. 4R cured that rut! We tried small portion of ribs, burnt ends and sausage and immediately got back on line for another round after finishing. Nice young guy behind the counter even remembered my name!
