I have been here twice now. Once quite a while ago near when they first opened and again today. The most recent visit was to scout the location out because friends had expressed an interest in trying them and we needed to make sure a power wheelchair could navigate the restaurant. All is good on that front but the fact that my first visit didn't impress me enough to come back is telling. I couldn't tell you what I ordered last time but we ordered the 3 meats this time with a 2 side combo that got us fries, baked beans and a fountain drink. Got lean brisket, pulled chicken and classic sausage. The pulled chicken was flavorful and I would get it again but the brisket and sausage were bland. The fries are like home cut and cooked style, similar to 5 Guys but not as salty. We enjoyed them. The baked beans were bland. The wife enjoyed the cornbread but it was crumbly. The dining area is one big space with a variety of seating options including booths and tables for 2, 4 and more. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. Drinks are DIY although there is an ice cooler on the way in with some specialty soda bottles to choose from. We shall return at least one more time with our friends because they live nearby and want to check it out and i will give the pulled pork a try then but it's likely I will stick to the BBQ places closer to home that we enjoy. We keep going back because they have the most consistent BBQ food. The Sliced Brisket is perfectly smoked and learned to buy this by the pound. We also like the Pulled Pork. The sauces that complement it are really good. Noticed the prices have increased and smaller portions. That is the trend so, caught on to buying bulk and get what you pay for. Their Baked Beans are my fave. Large chunks of pork and slow cooked. Service is very good, passing through the line and food delivered to the table is a nice touch. Inside is dressed with Military, Law enforcement and other Associations making you feel at home. Veterans are highly appreciated and they show love. This Tallahassee location has been open for nearly 10 years, and overall the service is great, along with most of the food. That said, the fries are consistently over-salted--I stopped ordering them about two years ago. But here's my real issue: does someone need to go in and calibrate (brix) the soda machine? The Mountain Dew on tap has never been right since this place opened. This isn't a one-time thing--I've been here around 50 times over the years, and it's never once been properly mixed at the dispenser. Is that a big deal? For me, yes. It's the difference between visiting once a month and only stopping in every six months now. Is it a big deal for the owners? NOPE I mention it every time I'm there, and no change. They chalk it up to I Don't know what I'm talking about even though EVERY SINGLE convenience store in Tallahassee gets it right EVERY DAY. The food is ok(ish). Never really thrills me. I find the sauces to be particularly unimaginative and disappointing. They're either sugary or use too much black pepper in lieu of actual spices. I would go back, but only if I were meeting other people here. I wouldn't suggest it on my own. On this particular visit, I went to the restroom to wash my hands. I'm standing at the sink and I don't want to touch it. It's nasty and hasn't been cleaned in who knows how long. I used it, but walked away not really feeling like I washed my hands. It's official. Our favorite barbecue restaurant in Tallahassee. The service is always outstanding at the counter, and in the front of the house. The ambience is always amazing to sit in this room with such incredible history of women and men that have served and serve represented throughout. Now back to the barbecue, the brisket is amazing especially if you order it how you like it. The sandwiches are a must. Matt, the manager is the perfect example of how the manager should run a business. He easily lifts this restaurant to a five star! Really wanted to love this place. Great interior, smelled like wood smoke walking in, staff was great. However, the BBQ wasn't great. None of our meat tasted smoked. I can do much smokier meat on my Trager at home. Baked beans tasted like cooked in ketchup. Fries were greasy. Pulled pork was mushy. Cornbread was good. We decided to grab lunch the Monday before Thanksgiving. Originally another restaurant was thrown around as an option, but seeing as I'm not a fan of said restaurant, we ended up at Mission BBQ instead. I had heard of them before. They have a location down in South Florida, but I've never been, so this was my first experience with this chain and honestly I didn't know what to expect. For some reason, I thought this was a sit-down restaurant, but it isn't. You order at the counter and they call you when your food is ready. I arrived first and ordered a half rack of St. Louis style ribs. It brought a piece of cornbread with it and a side. I chose the macaroni and cheese as my side. Eventually my companion arrived and he had some sort of brisket sandwich instead and I forget what side. While he seems to enjoy this place, to me it was merely decent. Maybe I'm a strange one here, but I'm used to getting ribs already doused in sauce. I guess this could be a problem for some and so they have a lot of six sauces on each table. I ended up really enjoying the honey BBQ one and putting it on my ribs. Pretty good flavor. The ribs themselves fell off the bone, but there just was no smoky aroma to them. They felt kind of boring. The macaroni and cheese was sufficiently cheesy and one of the better ones I've had in awhile. The cornbread was fine. It wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't terrible either. Overall... meh. This was okay and the food made for great leftovers for him. Not my first option for a BBQ place but certainly not my last. This restaurants Mission is to give you a military vibe which they succeeded in the seating area. The actually BBQ itself lacks a BBQ flavor and none of the sauces accomplish a smoke flavor either. The appearance, quality and consistency was spot on so it was a wait for it feeling which never transpired in my opinion. There were only three employees in view and they all seemed as if they wished they were anywhere but there. So I can say been there, ate that. Add it to the list and move on. Greeted by a really sweet young lady, super helpful as I'm from the wrong coast quite a ways from home . Another gentleman called my name only a few minutes later , equally as kind. One daughter ordered off the kid menu and the other off the regular menu. The pulled chicken was good and I got an enthusiastic "yes" when I asked if the cornbread was good. The other twin got the kids chicken slider with coleslaw. She liked the slider but was not a fan of the coleslaw. Too vinegary. I had the brisket and my choice was moist (a little fatty) or dry (leaner) with cornbread and one side. I got the fries and while they were just a touch greasy, the flavor was very good. I agreed, the cornbread was good. I actually liked the decor, paying tribute to all branches of the armed services. Best Baked Beans! I hit this place up for lunch. I always like to try everything, so I chose the 3 meat plate combo (ribs are not available in the 2 or 3 meat plate combo). I went with brisket (asked for moist), pulled chicken, and classic sausage. I decided on baked beans for my side. The brisket was dry for my taste, but it still had good flavor. The classic sausage were OK, nothing really special about them. I will try the jalapeño & cheese sausage next time. The pulled chicken was probably my favorite of the meats. Juicy and good flavor! The baked beans were incredible! Such good flavor with a thick consistency in the sauce. There were also a few chunks of brisket mixed in with the beans. By far my favorite part of the meal!!! The plate came with a square of cornbread. It was your typical cornbread, a little dry. They had 6 BBQ sauces on the table to choose from. A couple more by the soda bar. And some Georgia Mustard. The baked beans were fair at best, so fair, I wish I hadn't ordered them. A nice variety of sauces is available and I enjoyed the Tennessee sauce. While I'm not a fan of their menu which is a la carte and does not offer any "meals" overall this is a very acceptable meal. I'm from the land of 4 Rivers and while I know there's one in Tally, I'm always looking over the fence for good barbecue somewhere else. Sides were spectacular. Sauces, mnmmm... but sauces are subjective. As with the brisket, which was nice and moist but more like pot roast and fattier than should be for me. It's great! FOOD: I ordered the brisket with mac n cheese and baked beans. The portion size was appropriate to the price and the flavor was on point! The brisket was very tender and full of flavor. The mac n cheese is REAL mac n cheese. There was definitely some love put in it. It was cheesy, creamy and flavorful as well. The baked beans were also great. I was stuffed when I left and even had leftovers. SERVICE: The cashier was attentive and precise. We did not have to wait long to place our order.
