Food was good. Things that brought down the review was: 1. Staff was not enthused to take your order 2. Actual restaurant was very rustic with the urinals being a large through that spanned the room. 3. Overall very dark and dirty. read more

Huge fan of finding local BBQ joints across Florida but the brisket missed the mark today. It was cut in a way that wasn't pull-apart tender, with some fat not fully rendered(image below), leading to a tougher bite. The ribs were cut a little oddly but were tender. The burger and collards could've used more seasoning, and the bun came out soggy. On the plus side, the cheddar grits and fries were really solid and ended up being the highlight of the meal. Not a bad stop, but hoping for better consistency next time we're passing through. All staff were personable and helpful with daily menu specials and item recommendations. read more

We got the sampler plate that said it was good for two, but boy it was good for at least 4 - maybe 6! We got lean brisket, four ribs, two sausages, and a mound of pulled pork. For sides, we chose potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, and french fries. All were really good. Inside is quite rustic, you order at the counter and they'll bring it to your table. And we don't usually like live bands, but this one was actually decent! Our server was pleasant. Great experience and conveniently located right off the highway! read more

Summers Smokehouse - Ribs, sausage, pulled pork, brisket and sides - American Near Me - Tallahassee, Florida

We always love a good bbq, so we chose Summer's Smokehouse for lunch. We were greeted by a group of guineas. Yes, guineas. We were surprised too. Upon entering we were greeted with a sign. Grab your own menu, pick your own seat, go up to the counter to order. Pretty much a self service place. Place definitely had a good ambiance and music playing. We both ordered the brisket sandwich and fries, along with the house bbq sauce. It was all amazingly good. Tender smoked brisket, crispy house-made fries and the bbq sauce was smokey and sweet! We cleaned our plates!!! read more

We arrived right at 11:00 am and were escorted to the door by a whole flock of guinea fowl who thought they would get snacks. They have pellets they allow folks to feed them in the outdoor bar. The food is super good, very plentiful and fairly expensive. I got a pound of brisket for $22. Not bad. I also got a cheeseburger with fries for about $20. And my kids got two meats with ribs and pulled pork. Total bill was $98.00. The food is really good, but the sauces need some help. Very vinegary and Ketchup flavored. We didn't eat the sauce as the meats do not need it. Food is fantastic. read more

Had our first visit and experience at Summers Smokehouse this weekend. Walked in and we were made to feel right at home. We were seated and then reviewed the menu. Orders included pull pork and smoked chicken sandwiches along with pulled pork and rib plates. Everything was delicious. Cole slaw sides were awesome. We wanted to have the brisket but we arrived at 630 so unfortunately they had run out. All the while awesome live music was playing and that added to the fun and welcoming vibe. Can't wait to come back for the brisket!!! And to try more of the sides. read more

We've been a couple times when we are in Tallahassee. Had business on the west side of town so it was a no brainer. Got the sampler platter with brisket, chicken and pulled pork, sides were fried okra, meaty beans and fries. Holy piles of food! We ended up with so much more food than we expected for the price and it was excellent! read more

I knew immediately when I pulled into the parking lot and saw all of the pickup trucks and tradesmen it was going to be legit BBQ. Sat at the bar and ordered the 2 meat tray (pulled pork and brisket) with meaty baked beans and potato salad. They brought me samples of their homemade sauces. Meat cooked to perfection and the sides were fantastic. Had enough leftover for dinner. Mike took great care of me and definitely had many regulars that chatted him up. This is a very casual locals spot and I most certainly will be back. read more

Ribs were amazing. Staff was very helpful. Brisket was very good but not quite the best I've had. Sides were great. Lots of food for the money. We will be back! read more

Loved it!! Our order was taken at the counter with a big smile. Our lunch arrived at our table in less than 5 minutes. We both had the pulled pork sandwich combo, one with slaw and one with beans. The owner came over quickly to make sure everything was good, and he proceeded to check on the other tables. Pulled pork was delicious and the bun was nice and soft. The beans were yummy with a smoky taste. The coleslaw was amaaaazing! Combo was $9! Includes sandwich, 1 side and a drink! Wow!! Smiles and friendly service, no charge!! Great experience at Summers!! We will definitely be back soon to try the other menu items! Can't wait!! read more

Man those ribs are greasy. Smoked chicken was tough. Service: grab your own menu on the way in, order at the counter, get your own drink, sit down wait a short time for your food, eat with plastic utensils. Indoors has some great music with a darkened atmosphere. Prob won't make it a point to go back especially because Sonny's is right down the street from me. It was ok. read more

We ordered the sampler (4 meats and sides). Says it serves 2, but we had 3 days of leftovers! Everything was delicious.

We were traveling east, across the state and looking for an off the beaten path lunch location. It was the middle of the day and there was no one else dining but we were greeted and introduced to the ordering process. It reminded me of the honky tonk bars of my youth in Montana. While not our usual current choice, it was interesting. We ordered a selection of meats and sides. The wait was not long and the portion sizes were large! The spices didn't appeal to us but it was personal preference. The potato salad needed salt but the greens were fabulous. We took several to go boxes full of food home. WE try to find new places wherever we go so I doubt we'll be back but recommend it for others who are looking for bbq and plentiful food. read more

so easily easily and sooooo good! We will return and get a full rack next time. It is a spacious restaurant with outdoor seating. I like how they have live music there although I did not get a chance to enjoy it. I hope next time. It is a warm in the restaurant so you don't need a sweater. They have games to play with that are for kids and adults read more

Servers were very rude. They're open till 9, we walked in at 8:30. Anticipated to be quick, server informed us they take their last order at "8:45." However was not concerned about getting our order. Didn't approach our table, ask for drinks or anything. Walked away and sat behind the bar till we finally walked out because they were rude and clearly not concerned about taking care of us. Kindness takes you a long way and I would have gladly returned the favor with gratuity due to us coming so late. Our family of 3 had been traveling all day and looked ahead for a good place with good reviews. Sadly disappointed with the way we were treated. read more

First timer. Services was super nice and you feel welcome. Like other reviewers, it has a family atmosphere. I ordered the four meat sample. It was a toss up. - chicken was bland - pulled pork was very good (moist and well seasoned) - brisket was ok. The meat was juicy and tender but it lacked the characteristic smoke flavour of the brisket and it was a tad bland - ribs were meh. Juicy and tender but salty I will return for a second opinion :) read more

I have been a couple of times and this is my assessment. It's a better than average barBQ place that's family run. BarBQ places have their own personalities and this one definitely has that and I won't spoil it before hand! BarBQ is really good! Just the right bite to it and meaty ribs! Hamburgers are great size and the order of homemade fries are plentiful! Portions are good and is a great value for your money. The brisket is pretty good. It's like they prepared good food for the family picnics and were talked into giving a try to selling it! It is like going to eat at a family reunion. I've been three times and I'll be back! One time the customer service was great and she was very personable. The other two times there was another woman who had a sir of authority about herself, not rude but not overly friendly, like the pissed off Auntie who had to fill in. I love it there. Good food and good barBQ is always a plus! read more

These people arent messing around. Had lunch here today. They really think about their food. Its not just a "How much smoke can I jam into this meat?" approach but real thought is given to balance of flavors without any pretention. If Michelin gave stars for BBQ, this place would have one. My party had a burger and 3 different BBQ sandwiches. Each was excellent. My side, collard greens ($3), was the best I ever had. My boneless rib sandwich ($9) was tender but still with a perfect amount of pull. The only ding for me was the buns. A nicer bun would have elevated the sandwich even higher. The place doesnt look like much, but gives off authentic honky tonk vibes. The staff was super friendly, and several came over to check on us and chat without being annoying. Just genuinely nice people. Its hard to gush over a BBQ joint, but this place deserves it. read more
