Fried pork chop sandwich with home fries
Leah H.

I went to celebrate my friend's birthday at their new Sunday brunch. It's not their usual cafeteria style. They have a limited menu of sandwiches, breakfast plates and a few soul food style meals. I ordered the fried pork chop sandwich and home fries. It came on a pretzel bun with lettuce, tomato and a lemon thyme mayo. The pork chop itself was well seasoned. My server forgot the mayo, though which made the sandwich dry. I also asked for the fries to be crispy, and they were not. It was only the second day for brunch, so I understood. They had a vegan fried green tomato sandwich, so they accommodated me by letting me order just the tomatoes as a side. I didn't taste any salt and it was twice the price of other sides, so I wouldn't get that again. They also have bottomless mimosas. The mango flavor was delicious! The waitstaff was very nice! They sang for my friend and chatted us up. Our server was struggling a bit to keep our orders straight. Overall, give them a chance. Once they work the kinks out (and add a salad PLEASE), it will be great!

Nice bathrooms that smell and look super clean

If you like good southern food, you should check out Earley's. It's in an unassuming old building. The inside used to be very hole in the wall, but they've remodeled and it's much nicer now. I love their breakfast--all the things you'd expect: grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. Lunch is kinda hit or miss in my opinion but can be great if you come when the food is hot and fresh. Service is cafeteria style: you tell them what you want as you walk down the line. For the price, Earley's is hard to beat.

Was in the mood for some southern, "home-cooked" food (comfort food) and this place can to mind. We were not disappointed. I ordered chicken and dumplings, black eyed peas, cabbage; my daughter had smothered hamburger steak, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes; my husband had fried chicken, cabbage, and squash. The staff was very nice/pleasant, and the food was great! We will definitely plan to visit again!!!

Clean, modern and classy decor with southern hospitality to match. Everyone was extremely professional, but 'Blessed' served me two days in a row and stood out with exceptional service. Closest you're going to get to grandmas cooking. No filler. No preservatives. Just great southern food at a fair price. My son is a freshman at FAMU, so this restaurant will be a staple for the next 4yrs!

Eh. After reading so many rave reviews I was expecting something special. I don't know if it's bc it was mid-morning Monday but it was dead in there. The multiple staff on the floor completely ignored us until we asked them how the place worked. Made it clear it was our first time in & we didn't know the system. It's a buffet style, put it in a box for you breakfast, pre-cooked. I didn't see this anywhere in the website & was expecting a sit-down restaurant w wait staff. Wet, runny powdered eggs are the only egg option so it wasn't a good start. The huge sausage was delicious & is the sole reason for both stars, the potatoes & biscuit were just ok. The woman who plated the food was the only person who semi-acknowledged our presence. When I ordered coffee at the register the person by the coffee have a big dramatic sigh like I had asked for a table for 14. They made it very clear that we were not welcome & everyone working there wished we would not have come in. It was not a good experience.

Monday Special

Monday Special.... yes please!!! Several choices of meat, lots of side choices & your choice of hoe cakes, corn bread or corn biscuits. The beef in the stew was so tender & hands down, perfect fried chicken! No room for desserts of the day (key lime cake, red velvet cake & they put out a banana nut zucchini bread as we were leaving) but they looked tasty!! This was our 1st visit but my husband was already planning another visit for more beef stew! I'll get the oxtails next time! As an aside, it's got a great ambiance inside, the staff is pleasant, and the sweet tea is sweet. Definitely a place to try if you haven't!!

The food reminded me of home, and that's saying a lot. Food service was equal parts quality and quantity. This was definitely worth more than the cost and I would come back again.

Hot chicken, mac n cheese, fried okra, mashed potatoes, corn bread, peach cobbler

Yesterday was my first time visiting Earley's and I can't believe I haven't found this place earlier. Food was absolutely amazing, the service was quick and everything was cheap. The environment in the restaurant is modern and super clean. The staff was extremely nice and wore their masks the entire time. They had all the condiments and extras you need organized for you. The value for the amount of food you get is CRAZY! I loved everything I got, especially the peach cobbler.

Oxtails, macaroni and cheese, greens, and cornbread
Tiffany A.

The food was awful. I ordered oxtails, macaroni and cheese, and greens. The cornbread was dry and bitter. The greens tasted burnt and sour. The Mac and cheese was overcooked, mushy, and had no cheese inside, only a small amount on the top, definitely an egg based Mac. The oxtails were mostly fat, the top oxtail was dry and tough. However, the oxtail gravy was great. It wasn't salty, and had good flavor. I've heard wonderful things about Earley's food but my experience wasn't good. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. If you happen to stop by, I suggest ordering the chicken. I didn't try it, but it looked good.

Fried chicken is the best in Tallahassee. The only reason I didn't give Earley's 5 stars was because the macaroni and cheese wasn't good.

The lady at the counter was super friendly when we came in! The prices here are pretty good for a meal consisting of a meat, rice, 2 sides, cornbread and a drink. If you're a student, there is a $2 discount off of lunch and dinner plates from noon to 5pm. There is a $1.50 charge for using a card, though. I got the Stewed Chicken dinner plate with Mashed Potatoes and Corn Casserole as my 2 sides. It's a bit of a wait for the food, but it looked like there were only two people running the whole operation by themselves. Everything comes out in a to-go box, but there is seating and TV entertainment available. The moment the stewed chicken entered my mouth I was in love with the flavor. It's a bit too salty but goes really well with the yellow rice, which was recommended to me by the lady at the counter. They didn't skimp on the stew broth either! I love when there's potato skin in my mashed potatoes but I wish they were a little creamier, and the corn casserole was really sweet which complimented the chicken stew really well. The only part of my meal that I wasn't a huge fan of was the cornbread, which was really dry. My friend Marley got Fried Chicken which took longer to come out, and when she ate her corn nuggets she said, "That's a good corn nugget." I tried one too and it was indeed a good corn nugget. I'll be back again for lunch!

When I read the email announcing tonight's Chef's dinner, we couldn't resist. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can fry an oyster better than Chef. Perched atop a great classic--deviled egg with bacon bits--the oyster was tender with a light batter-fried coating. Chef's duckfat cornbread drizzled with just the right amount of avocado butter provided the perfect podium on which two blackened shrimp lightly dusted with a hint of subtle spices rested. If you know me, you know I don't like my food to hurt me, and this dish met my requirements with a whisper of, "Here I am." Now, my hubby doesn't like anything with coffee, so he was worried about the hickory smoked chicken with espresso molasses BBQ sauce. However, he admitted the sauce didn't have any hint of coffee and, in fact, it was a delicious complement to the chicken. As for the pancetta Mac 'n' Cheese, its creamy cheesiness balanced out the smokiness of the chicken. Chef Joseph often offers one of his Pot de Crème varieties to finish a meal. I always look forward to them. Tonight's Pineapple White Chocolate version was a perfect finish to a perfect dining experience. Sparkling wines and summer--the perfect pairing. Even more perfect when you are enjoying them with a fabulous meal at Lucilla.

I got fried deviled eggs (yummy), fried catfish, red velvet waffles, eggs and corned beef hash. The catfish was extremely fresh. Worst of all bread ordered from menu took 20-30 minutes to table and we were told "the kitchen is firing up fresh bread" which btw is not offered just for sitting down. The aforementioned bread was room temp upon arrival and did not remotely taste like something freshly baked. No need to tell a tale when the kitchen is either short staffed or incompetent. Also when the mains came out they were highly staggered, dishes were ok at best and at least one dish was cold and needed to be returned (mine of course). They brought it back warmed with my bite still visible. Weak. They do start with an amuse-gueule (small taste) and that was immediate and was fine. Applaud trying to bring a fine dining or European type experience to town but this is not it. Close and retool if what we experienced was typical. Bottom line a generally bad and highly tardy meal can be salvaged by staff staying in touch with the table and at the end offering a return visit or comp to make it right. The server did apologize when presenting the check with a service charge applied. I would never return here.
