If you're a student, there is a $2 discount off of lunch and dinner plates from noon to 5pm. There is a $1.50 charge for using a card, though. I got the Stewed Chicken dinner plate with Mashed Potatoes and Corn Casserole as my 2 sides. It's a bit of a wait for the food, but it looked like there were only two people running the whole operation by themselves. Everything comes out in a to-go box, but there is seating and TV entertainment available. The moment the stewed chicken entered my mouth I was in love with the flavor. It's a bit too salty but goes really well with the yellow rice, which was recommended to me by the lady at the counter. They didn't skimp on the stew broth either! I love when there's potato skin in my mashed potatoes but I wish they were a little creamier, and the corn casserole was really sweet which complimented the chicken stew really well. The only part of my meal that I wasn't a huge fan of was the cornbread, which was really dry. My friend Marley got Fried Chicken which took longer to come out, and when she ate her corn nuggets she said, "That's a good corn nugget." I tried one too and it was indeed a good corn nugget. If you know me, you know I don't like my food to hurt me, and this dish met my requirements with a whisper of, "Here I am." Now, my hubby doesn't like anything with coffee, so he was worried about the hickory smoked chicken with espresso molasses BBQ sauce. However, he admitted the sauce didn't have any hint of coffee and, in fact, it was a delicious complement to the chicken. As for the pancetta Mac 'n' Cheese, its creamy cheesiness balanced out the smokiness of the chicken. Chef Joseph often offers one of his Pot de Crème varieties to finish a meal. I always look forward to them. Tonight's Pineapple White Chocolate version was a perfect finish to a perfect dining experience. Sparkling wines and summer--the perfect pairing. There was a standard menu given to us along with specials for the evening. Also notes were wine specials and a decent wine list. Two in our party enjoyed a Pinot Grigio and a Sauvignon Blanc and exclaimed good quality. For starters we got fresh bread that was accompanied by seasoned olive oil and an herbed butter. We also had the flash fried artichokes; recommended these 100%. There were little strips of red bell peppers mixed in and note, when I say "flash fried" I'm talking a lite dusting of a flour batter and super lite fry...no grease. Dinner entrees consisted of the birthday boy ordering the filet, au gratin potato and asparagus. Three of us had the flounder that had tomato confit, artichoke, hearts palm, olives and mandarin oranges. The filet was cooked perfect and extremely tender with the sides paired perfectly. The flounder was exceptional and no plate was left with a morsel to be seen! The dessert menu was hard to choose from but we settled on brownie with sauce and vanilla ice cream and the raspberry cheesecake. Add in a couple of after dinner coffees/espresso the meal was perfect. This restaurant is small but not elbow small. Be warned the garlic bread is basically white bread, but it was still good and my pork chop and sides were very good. Also, the burgers looked good as they were coming out and the next time that I am here, I will probably try their cheeseburger. Country Kitchen keeps the menu simple, but that does not mean that the food is not very good. I will give here five stars and it definitely earned my recommendation.
