Our service was outstanding.. always on the spot and always a very kind soul. The food was expertly prepared and the flavors were pure artistry! From the bread... ohhhh the bread (moth watering in memory), to the main course (a delectable risotto)... to the works of art they call desert! Everything was perfect! The carrot cake was divine! I ordered the Steak Diane, a $55 entrée, and requested it medium-rare. Unfortunately, the steak arrived medium-well, and both the steak and the bed of mashed potatoes were lukewarm. They also forgot to provide a steak knife, and I had to ask for one twice. The Monroe has a nice ambiance and serves good appetizers and drinks, but based on my experience, it seems more suited to being a sports bar than a place for quality main courses. I always enjoy the brunch here. The omelettes are my favorite and do not need additonal seasoning on them unlike some other places. Our server was attentive and always came by to check on us. The ambiance and vibe is contemprary and modern, both indoors and out. The patio area is really inviting with fresh plants everywhere and they offer blankets when it's chilly. Part of Somo Walls, it is a nice addition to the Southside, close to Cascades Park. Make sure to check out the dessert menu. Came here on a Friday night without a reservation. Only seating available was outdoors but it was just too hot. However, there were 3 chairs at the lower part of the bar inside so we took those. Service was very good and a manager did make a point to check on us. Food ordered was the Bang Bang Salmon bites - pretty good but very light on the sauce, Cranberry Blueberry salad with Salmon bites added - very tasty and large portion, Tofu Stir Fry which was very good (according to my friend) . The house red wine was very good at an average price. However, I ordered a Knob Creek Manhattan which was tremendously over priced! $18 + plus an upcharge for Knob Creek so it was $22 if I remember correctly. I've seen this in a few Tallahassee restaurants and can't understand how these prices are justifiable, hence the 3 star rating. Happy hour drink prices are only available Mon through Thurs. The appetizer salmon bites were delicious, seasoned well and flaky. For drinks I had the gimlet and my husband had an old fashion both of which were made well. The entrees missed the mark for us. I had the short rib with white rice and bok choy. The short rib was the only thing on my plate that was delicious, seasoned well and a sweet and tangy flavor, the rice was bland, and the bok choy was a bit hard. My husband said his wagyu pasta was just okay. For the price point I expected the entrees to be great. I could see this spot being more of a happy hour spot since the appetizer and drinks were good! We split the strawberry salad, which I enjoyed and I ordered the steak flatbread which was good , but not great. My friend ordered the blueberry toast which was disappointing because the bread was not toasted well and it was just a weird texture. She wound up getting the yogurt bowl. I came here for my birthday and I was heavily disappointed by the service and overall experience. Me and my friends got sat 45 minutes late from our reservation time and the service didn't come till 15 minutes after so at that point we didn't even have water an hour after our reservation started. No one on the service team said I'm sorry for being late or for the fact that we hadn't been served, additionally one of my friends didn't get her food till 15 minutes after the rest of my party as if they forgot her. Additionally, the food was overdone and cold. Therefore, I would not recommend this to my friends or family. They were just highly inconsiderate and had no remorse. I had the croissant monkey bread -SO YUMMY- the espresso cream cheese icing was tasty and I am not a coffee fan. For my meal I had the chicken and Waffles and added the heirloom grits. Since I only got a single portion of the chicken and Waffles there is an upcharge for the honey butter, spicy hot honey, whipped mascarpone. Get it, you will not regret it. Very disappointing experience. Visited this establishment on Saturday, 3/14 with a party of four. We arrived around 12:10 PM, were seated, and ordered a bread basket for the table. Around 12:30 PM we placed our drink and entrée orders. For the next 45 minutes we waited with no communication from our server about the status of our food. Meanwhile, several larger parties on the patio who were seated after us began receiving their meals. During this time, our waiter never returned to check on us, refill water, or provide any update. Around 1:13 PM, after still receiving no food or communication, we asked our waiter where our order was and mentioned that we had been waiting a long time while other tables were being served. I then got up to find a manager to discuss the situation. When I approached the individual who was "acting as the manager" and asked if he was the manager, his response was "Depends on the question." This was an immediate red flag and not an appropriate way to respond to a customer concern. He came to our table and confirmed our order, stating that the ticket showed the food had been put in at 1:13 PM, which was inaccurate considering we ordered around 12:30 PM. We explained that we had already been waiting roughly 45 minutes, but instead of addressing the experience or the lack of communication, the focus seemed to be only on getting the food out. Our food finally arrived around 1:28 PM. After finishing our meal, the check was presented with no acknowledgment, apology, or adjustment for the delay or poor service experience. When we asked the manager if any adjustment would be made due to the situation, he again referenced the ticket saying the food was brought out within 20 minutes, which did not reflect what actually happened. I explained that this response felt like deflection and dismissal of our experience rather than accountability. He offered a credit for a future visit, which we declined since we were visiting from out of town and would not be returning. As he walked away, he returned sarcastically asking, "Did you put those reviews in yet?" He later claimed the waiter told him additional information and then offered 25% off the check, but by that point the lack of professionalism and empathy had already defined the experience. This situation was handled poorly from start to finish. The delay was frustrating, but the lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism from management made it far worse. It's a more expensive restaurant in town, but you get what you pay for- and the some. Excellent quality. This is the type of restaurant that needs to be nationally ranked. I went on a Tuesday night and reservations were required for indoor dining-it was full inside. There were plenty of people at the bar and there is also outdoor dining. We had the BANG BANG SALMON BITES, BREAD SERVICE; and GAMBAS AL AJILLO as starters/appetizers. The salmon bites were very good and original. I think most will enjoy the gambas (shrimp in garlic) at the Monroe, but I'm partial to the Spanish traditional style which is very heavy garlic. My table had the following dishes: SOUS VIDE LAMB CHOPS; JAPANESE SHORT RIB; STEAK DIANE (8oz and the ribeye (larger portion); BLACKENED SNAPPER; and my entree, AMERICAN WAGYU RAGU. I tried the steak (ribeye) and it was very good: medium rare. The 8oz steak at the table was cooked medium and although the person enjoyed it- you need to be clear you want to have the steak medium rare, it makes a huge difference. I used to go to The Monroe frequently just to get their Caesar salad. I'd get a main dish but always had the Caesar first. Yesterday, I was in for a big disappointment. The Caesar did not have Parmesan cheese or anchovies in it. It tasted as if someone bought a grocery store salad dressing and mixed it in. No ground pepper was offered, as well. I visit Tallahassee once a month, eating out at a different place each time, and this is hands down the best food I have had after many months of visits. The Monroe Flatbread was excellent, very flavorful with lots of steak. The bread bowl was good. The Steak Frites was also good. The star of the show was the Japanese shortrib - it was superb. A little bit spicy, sweet, and salty. The artichoke rotolo was very good. Every dessert was great. The pastry chef came out to pour the hot chocolate over the wonderball to ensure it melts properly. Beautiful and delicious. The hazelnut cake was great - the passion fruit curd was over the top good. The Milfe cake reminded me of a light napoleon. Service was friendly, perfectly timed, and attentive. The interior seating floor is roomy and sharp looking. The was tons of outdoor seating, which was great as the patrons enjoyed the FSU game on the large TV's. read more

The Monroe is easily one of my new favorite spots in Tallahassee. The ambiance is warm and modern with a laid-back vibe--stylish enough to feel special, but still comfortable and welcoming. This restaurant is fabulous. It makes you feel like you're somewhere tropical the decor is so south beach. Their customer service is exceptional. The bartender was so kind and attentive and the bar back, Eric, made sure to welcome me with kindness and expert hospitality upon my entrance ~ just to give context, I stumbled in here with fascination. I'm a native of Tallahassee who hasn't lived there in 16 years, so I was overjoyed to see such a fabulous venue in my hometown. He picked up my glee and made sure the rest of the staff made me feel like a queen! The only downside is that I ordered a gluten free pancake, only to learn, after eating it, that it wasn't gluten free. I'm allergic to wheat. Luckily, I don't have violent allergic reactions, but what if I did?! That would've been horrible, so I recommend they provide their servers with more allergy training bc that could've been bad! read more

And tho I'm a huge fan of eggs Benedict, I chose the Monroe Omelette w/ cheese grits & asked for my bacon to be crispy (which it was) while my husband ordered the breakfast sliders (3 good sized 'smaller' eggs, cheese & bacon sandwiches) w/ a side of their crispy potato wedges topped with cheese. Tho I forgot the obligatory just served plate pics I did take after pics - mostly devoured & will definitely return to try other dishes!! Overall, the decor is inviting & there's places for just hanging out as well as meals, both inside & outside. The Monroe at Somo Walls on South Monroe Street is beautiful inside with a spacious dining area and a beautifully appointed and nicely lit bar area. The velvet covered bar stools are very comfortable. They have a large covered outdoor seating area as well. We know that reservations are suggested so we went early (just after they opened at 5 pm) and sat at the bar to visit with Adam, who mixed an amaretto sour and a Sazerac cocktail for us. Both delicious. We ordered and split three appetizers. The cloud bread lives up to its name, light and fluffy, served with a savory, herbed butter. The etoufee fritters are made with chicken, crawfish and andouille sausage with a spicy garlic shrimp remoulade. The potato fonduta consists of crispy kennebec potatoes served with a Gruyère cheese sauce, crisp bits of prosuitto di Parma and is sprinkled with minced herbs. All were delectable and quite filling. The menu features many interesting appetizers and entrees, and we plan to return and try more. The Monroe is a great place for a romantic or casual dinner, or a get together with a group of friends. Portion size is appropriate and satisfying however there is no way to know what people are basing their expectations on. So I will let you know what I compare. all of my Tallahassee restaurant experiences to: Cypress was (in my opinion the best Tallahassee had to offer). This place is special, deliberate effort and care is put into the experience & service. We've never had any complaints about the quality or preparation of the food. Some in our party have had specific drink requests and communication regarding these instances has been excellent. If there were any issues with the quality of the food, I expect it would be swiftly addressed. There is one thing that I will never order again: ceviche. This is b/c Café de Martin has set the bar high... and if you don't know their recipe, there's no point trying. The decor is lovely & different from anywhere else in town: rattan, gold & houseplants & done well. The patio area is well appointed with foliage and comfortable seating. This is a great place to meet friends or bring out of towners. They offer spirits from their adjacent distillery (only one in town). I understand there are some hard feelings about public funds contributing to this business. I'm also a life long resident of Tallahassee, who is pleased to enjoy a new restaurant on my side of town, this is a new feeling b/c Southside is often overlooked for news projects. The etoufee fritters were recently added to the menu & a must! If you ask your server how many are included in an order, you won't be irrationally disappointed when it arrives. Went to the Monroe during their soft opening. It's absolutely stunning inside. The ambiance was really nice and we were fortunate enough to be there during some live music which was nice. We sat at the bar until our table was ready and I tried a zero proof cocktail which was the watermelon margarita. It was very refreshing and was evident that they took time to curate their cocktails with house made juices and syrups. The cloud bread was warm and fluffy and I had the artichoke rotolo as my main. I can see why it was a fan favorite! This would be a nice place to celebrate a special occasion or even a date night.
