Heard about this place on a previous trip to Tallahassee and had to check it out while visiting for our daughter's orientation. I had recently heard that this place is a Michelin notable and now I know why. Don't be fooled by the nondescript, gray exterior, the inside is adorable and cozy. Valet is complementary which is a nice touch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Service is incredibly quick from the time you order to when you receive your meal. Food was absolutely delicious. Hubby and I ordered a few appetizers as well as the chefs tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The appetizers we chose were the charred octopus and the fire roasted oysters. Both were wonderful but the octopus was a standout. For the tasting menu, it changes daily and is 4 courses with a dessert course to round out the meal. Ours happened to include: Sausage w olive tapenade, Filet w tomato and veggie chow chow (so tasty), Duck tostada w avocado crema, Elk filet w hasselback potatoes and asparagus (show stopper), and Orange rice pudding w pistachio cookie crumble which was such a nice, light way to end the meal. One thing to note: they automatically add 18% gratuity to your bill which is split between all front of house and back of house staff. Anything you leave above this will go directly to your waiter. There is a card they leave when they drop off the bill that explains this more eloquently than I am but I found it to be unique that they openly discuss it instead of adding it to the bill with no notice or explanation. read more

I am in love with the culinary craftsmanship of this delightful restaurant. My friend and I got a plethora of dishes ~ fire grilled oysters , ceasar salad, antelope, steak and lobster, fries, asparagus, drinks... everything was prepared and cooked to perfection. The meat was delicate, buttery, tender... The customer service was great as well... very attentive. The ambiance was lovely. My only less than favorable was the blackberry margarita. Everything was exceptional. Began the evening at the bar while we waited for our table; ordered a "Down & Dirty" - their version of a dirty martini. One of the better cocktails I've ever had, the added hot sauce to the savory brine was a nice touch. Moved to our table once our reservation was ready. Service from our waiter was excellent . Started with their fire roasted oysters - they were fantastic. Paired perfectly with their martini. Probably the best cooked oysters I've ever had, as typically I prefer raw oysters. Ordered the bison ribeye (mid-rare) for dinner. Flavor was excellent, cook was slightly uneven. Ordered sides of mushrooms and Brussel sprouts to share with the table. Brussel spouts were exceptional, mushrooms were mushrooms (paired well with the ribeye). Shared with others at the table; they ordered the Ribeye & Lobster and the Redfish. The Redfish was fantastic, the peanut sauce it was served with was a highlight. The Ribeye & Lobster tasted great, as expected; however, no one at the table was a huge fan of the sides that came with it (Pimento Cheese Bread Pudding and coleslaw). Finished the night by sharing the coffee Crème Brûlée for dessert. Arguably the best bite of the night, highly recommend. I was in town last weekend and stopped in with my husband for happy hour which they have everyday at the bar from 5-6 pm. We got small bites and drinks! The bites were delicious! My favorite was the fish dip, followed by the burger bites with quail egg, and lastly the duck nugget which were okay, a bit dry but paired with the sauce it was good. For drinks my husband had the old fashion and stuck with that and I had the porch swing and a mai tai. They have a dinner menu as well. The service was phenomenal. Wow. I spent my last evening in Tallahassee at the Huntsman and that was a great decision. I was not expecting much as I had tried il Lusso a couple weeks before dining here and did not have high hopes for fine dining in the area. This place blew me out the water. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the crab cake, elk tataki, and oysters. The crab cake had very little filling and was mainly crab. The garnishes and sauce was a perfect compliment to the meat. The elk tataki was asian inspired and was ABSOLUTELY amazing. I almost ordered a second serving. The oysters were very good and had great flavor with the toppings it was served with. I was getting pretty full from the appetizers so I opted for the 5oz A5 Wagyu for my entree with no sides. I asked for medium rare and that is what I got. The crust on the steak was perfect. For drinks, I got the 24k gold and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The 24k gold was interesting but I mistakenly did not read all the ingredients and did not enjoy the carrot flavor very much. The sugar plum drink was very good with the vodka and lychee. To finish off the meal, we ordered creme brulee and it had a nice top crust. No complaints. Highly highly recommend you check this place out if you're in Tally. read more

Our waiter, Payne, was just extraordinary! Very knowledgeable about the menu items, the cocktails and the history of the restaurant and owners. The restaurant ambiance was cozy and comfortable. Service was five star. Everything Payne suggested was spot on! The ribeye and lobster selection was perfect for me. The tallow biscuits and bread were also delicious. The greens had a duck reduction sauce and were tasty and the creamy mac n cheese was yummy . To end the meal, the crème brûlée was my choice and was delicious! This spot is really unassuming but it's so cute.Our server greeted us right away after being sat and went over the menu and how it is laid out. We ordered a few starters and an entree each. The mid course fresh bread with herb butter was awesome. For starters we got the oysters, octopus and pierogis.The oysters come with 4, they had a nice balance of flavor, definitely yummy. The octopus was so tender, the potato salad was good but I definitely demolished the octopus with that herb salad and left some of the potato salad behind. The pierogis had a few different sauces to choose from, we really enjoyed them with the chimichurri but all the sauces were good. For our meals I went with the duck and it was really good and the sides really rounded out the dish. My husband got a bison ribeye and broccolini and he really enjoyed both. The bison ribeye came with herbed butter and a red wine reduction. The char and whipped ricotta on the broccolini was a really nice touch. We were much too full to order dessert but the menu had some really nice options. They have an automatic 18% gratuity that is explained via a piece of paper with the bill but the service we received was worth that and more. read more

The place is very modern, southern, and great! The food was excellent, my family and I all got cuts of meat from all sorts of animals. I got a wagyu Denver steak which was very fatty and oily. Just like a normal wagyu steak. However they do add a solid piece of butter on top the steak when served which made it extra buttery. The service was as well super amazing. We had an absolutely delightful anniversary dinner here on a Friday evening. It was easy to schedule the reservation and we were seated promptly once I arrived. Luis was our server and took amazing care of us. I couldn't even drop a crumb on the table without him coming to make sure our dining area remained spotless. Now onto the Food. I really enjoyed the crabcake it was large and flavorful. I had the duck gnocchi entrée and it was savory, but not my favorite. My hubby ordered the grouper and I would say I preferred his entrée over mine. We were also both very pleased with the portion sizes, especially for a fine dining establishment. We were too full to try a true dessert, but I did have a dessert cocktail to close out the night. I had the "Amar You Up." While it was evident it was crafted beautifully. It was just OK for my tastebuds. I learned I am definitely a traditional espresso martini gal. The Mai Thai I think is my favorite cocktail on the menu, based on what I've tried so far. Get the antelope. The antelope is so ridiculously tender. I don't know how that's possible with such a lean meat, but it melts in your mouth and it is better than the ribeye, by a long shot. I know because I got the ribeye and my wife got the antelope. The ribeye is good, but not spectacular. I would highly recommend exploring when you visit here. Go against your norm and you will not be disappointed! Service here was really good. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. The vibe at this place is cool too. I haven't been to Tallahassee since this location was cypress, and I thought I would be disappointed it was gone, but amazingly I'm not - considering this place is its replacement. This is a rustic place. You walk into what feels like history. The bar is amazing, extending along the front bar area and one of those huge wooden bars. We sat at our table. The menu was a variety of game options and surf and turf options. But there were also Vegan items as well. We ordered appetizers to share for the table. The appetizers were amazing. His recommendations of smoked octopus and fire roasted oysters as appetizers before splitting the duck (with boar bacon!) was a perfect call since we would have been too full if we hadn't done that. Wish we could have tried more on the menu, but that just means more return trips to Tallahassee. The service at the Huntsman is stellar! I was so impressed with my first time here that I visited again two days later. Our party ordered the corn and crab chowder, which they thought was tasty but probably wouldn't order again. Now, the fried eggplant appetizer is what brought me back! Pearl onion agrodolce, arugula, mascarpone mousse, balsamic is beautifully presented. I had the bison ribeye with a side of potatoes and bourbon bacon jam. The bison was a bit chewy but had a good flavor. The lamb sirloin was delicious and the plate was cleaned. My son had the Moules Frites with mussels, shrimp, bay scallops, lobster, alligator andouille sausage, herbed beer mustard broth, rosemary potato haystack and enjoyed it. A couple of days later, my group had the French onion soup, the Rabbit Makhani, the lamb and a bone split ribeye. The rabbit was interesting but not a favorite and the ribeye was perfect. My lamb was good and I would order again once I work my way through the menu! They bring out a serving of bread between the appetizer and main course which has a compound butter. This is a nice place for a special occasion or when you want to be pampered. I will be going again! read more

The fish dip was very good and came with two types of crackers. Great fish taste & not too salty. The sliders (2) were yummy with fried crispy onions and a dipping sauce. Yes yes yes! We had the tasting menu for a little bit of everything. If you are ever concerned that you won't be full after a tasting menu- fear not! The portions are beyond generous. You HAVE to try the Huntsman, it is an amazing addition to Tallahassee. I've visited for dinner and late night happy hour a few times neither experiences have disappointed. First of all this is probably my favorite house margarita in town, it is the bomb! I don't even like eggplant but I ate it here. They have constantly rotating items on and off the menu forcing me to come back and try more. I've had three different desserts as well and they were excellent as well. The smore brownie, an apple dessert and a blueberry cake, just look at the photos of course they were devoured. The staff are phenomenal,Woody, David and Angel are some of my favorites! I forgot to make this review when we first went, but we are getting ready to go back and I just had to share the amazing experience we had. I made reservations for my fiancé's birthday and they had a happy birthday tag at the table when we arrived. The ambiance perfectly matched the restaurant menu with its modern but woodsy aesthetic. The huntsman has it figured out! From the service, to the food, to the cocktails, and the ambiance everything was perfect. We had a party of 6. We had a reservation and were sat when we arrived. The bread and butter they bring is delicious. I had the lamb pasta, my husband and a friend the bison ribeye and everyone else ordered the filet mignon. We had the Brussels, mash potatoes, and steak fries as sides. We ordered off the happy hour menu first for drinks we had the old fashions and the gin specialty drink. Then switched to regular old fashion and draft beer. The margarita was good as well. They do automatic gratuity but with the service and food we gave an extra tip. read more

We took my wife's mom last night for her 89th birthday. I remember it when it was the Cypress Restaurant, and I'd say they've done a very nice job transforming it. The atmosphere is nice, the tables and wall art are very nice, and it was fairly quiet with the right volume level for music. The menu is as we expected, considering the type of restaurant it is. Not as many choices, but still pretty good overall. My wife and her mom had the ribeye with lobster dish, and both very happy with the preparation. The lobster was prepared just right, and the meat was cooked exactly as they requested. The twice baked potato was excellent. I chose the pork chop dish. The chop was cooked nicely and just the right portion amount. The rice pilaf was also very good, although they let some of it mix in with the sauce from the pork chop. It didn't ruin it, but would have been better if kept separate. The broccoli unfortunately was thoroughly mixed in to the sauce, making it pretty soggy. I like my vegetables fresh and firm, so these were somewhat unappealing. The service was excellent! I especially liked that she inquired about any allergies, so any dishes with ingredients that might trigger a reaction could be avoided. A very nice touch. We were very surprised they don't offer cappuccinos, espressos or lattes for after dinner. Just drip coffee. My last comment relates to attire. It's disappointing to get dressed up to go to a nice restaurant and find diners wearing sweatshirts, hoodies, shorts + basketball sneakers, etc. We understand it's Tallahassee and most people like to dine casually, and we get that the restaurants may not want to push away potential diners, so it is what it is. But it would be nice to have at least one place that has a dress code. read more
