Food was very good. Staff was attentive. I enjoyed the ambiance. I think they did an excellent job.

We came here for a graduation lunch with two families. We did have to reserve well in advance (think September/October time frame) and they required a $100 deposit. It was raining when we came, but had it not, it would have been such a great place to walk around and explore. They have a garden area and just such a cute vibe. I felt like I was walking into an upscale farm house...and I loved it! I loved all the decor and the whole vibe, All the food we received at the table was amazing. We had crab balls and basal buttons, both of which were well gone before I could take pictures! Around our table we had a wide variety, 3 Tuna & Truffle, 2 Crabbie Patty, a Beastly Buffalo chicken, a cob salad and sides of curly fries, sweet mashed potatoes, grits, seasonal veggies and soup. Everyone enjoyed their meals tremendously! I wish I had found this place 4 years ago because I would have made it a repeat visit!! I'm updating with one negative...the water. I don't drink soda or sweets, I usually just drink water. The water they brought out tasted like bleached well water, that's really the only way I can describe it. Its our 2nd visit. Overall, a solid 3. Good seevice, fresh food. My annoyance on this trip is the pricey cocktail filled with massive ice to hide that there's no cocktail in the glass. We ordered their special fruity yummy drink. It was good, but 3 sips at $10 or $12 and it's gone? WTF! Really. Look at my photos. Tons of crushed ice. Waste of time and money. Prime Rib sammy was good, enough for 2. We got 2 sides, one came with. Collars were good but coukd be better. Ive had better locally and in Firt Lauderdake. Grits were creamy. Added Salt/Pepsi to taste. So overall it's ok. I think they get away with medoicre Southern because there's no challenger in town thats this vibe. So you pay for the dine in atmosphere etc, but the food 8s all middle of road. Now, i will admit Im a foodie from a harsh location, Ft Lauderdale, makes you tough because we eat everything from all cultures, so you gotta bring your A game, and we travel alot. You can do medoicre Mexican in an suburb where only Mexicans come to clean house, so going to get a taco or nachos os badic in some areas. But we travel to where Mexicans own it, eat it, and barely speak English. Thats authentic. So it's true here! Its a great place for Southern Comfort food, but we are always underwhelmed with their execution. On the first visit, crab cake stack. Average. Devil eggs were basic and disappointing. Unsure how you cant do well on a basic dish. Creamy. No kick flavor. It would be nice is the could level up their execution. The menu reads great, but we are consistently just like "OH, ok. Descent." So definitely visit. Expect average, just ok. If you arent Southern, this will be great for you, as you have no reference point. Don't go in like you are going to be transplanted to the South. Its average execution. Like creamy cheese grits but nothing extraordinary. I've had grits in North Carolina, Sunny Pointe, you might eat a finger scooping up the shrimps and grits. Definitely worth a visit. Its famiky friendly. I think you pay 20% for the atmosphere. Ckean, cute decor. Love the twigs etc, branches. The porch sitting feel. You saw parents and kids, you could tell it's back to school. Today, 8/15, they were low on waiters. So took a long time for anyone to check back on us. But you could see other unhappy tables, one guy yelling at Mgr, so maybe some slippage in this upstart. read more

Visiting my sister in Tallahassee, she recommended this spot--and it did not disappoint. The place is decorated so cute and the outside seating is beautiful. You can go visit the farm on your way out which was super nice we got to see bunnies, chicks, and roosters. Now for the food.. from the mocktails to the appetizers and entrees, everything was incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. You can really taste the farm-to-table quality in every dish. I got to look around their garden this time and see many of the fruits, vegetables and herbs they grow for use in the restaurant. Fresh food, flavorful sauce combinations, and some of their sauces and food items are available for sale up front. What a wonderful lunch we had today at Backwoods Crossing with Alexz caring for us. We started with Crossroads Eggs over collards then Alexz helped us to plan our meal, which included Basil Buttons, Blue Crab & Corn bisque, and the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. A delightful blend of flavors, perfectly choreographed (and beautiful!) The bisque was so good that we had to take another serving to go! Don't let the simple exterior fool you--this place is exceptional. It's a true farm-to-table restaurant, complete with a large garden out back and a smaller one in the front, which really adds to the fresh, local feel. We started with the Crossroad Eggs with pork collard greens, topped with their house-infused vinegar (so good). I'm usually not a fan of collards, but these were so flavorful I found myself finishing them for the table. For entrées, we ordered the catfish filet with grits and collards, Shrimp with Spirit salad, and the Season's Greens salad--each dish was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The drinks came in mason jars with fresh lime, which added a fun, rustic touch. Our server was friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaging, making the whole experience even better. This 4-star rating is based on the amazing customer service, the ambiance, and the garden/farm animals outback. The food alone, unfortunately would've made this more of a 2-3 star! This restaurant is a hidden gem. It is so unique and special. It takes farm to table to a new meaning. They have a beautiful outdoor garden, sitting area and a beautiful garden in the back, which they use to cook their recipes and prepare their drinks with. Again, unfortunately the food fell completely flat. Fresh but flat. We got the catfish nuggets, crab cakes, and a bevy of other dishes. I was mostly disappointed with the crabcakes, which were mostly filling. It had very little crab meat. Additionally, the other food lacked seasoning . I would absolutely return to this restaurant for drinks and possibly another try at the food. I recommend you give it a try, too. read more

On our drive from Orlando to Mobile, we got to Tallahassee around dinner time. I knew this was a DDD favorite, so we stopped in. I am so glad we did. The freeze (Feb 26) took out the outside gardens, bvut the greenhouse was in good shape. The micro greens and herbs survived. The outside of the restaurant looks like it should be a fishing shack, but the inside looks like your favorite relatives' backwoods cabin. All finished and well-worn wood tables, cabinets, doors, etc. We were seated right away and water and drinks were served. We ordered the Crossroad Eggs, 2 cups of Blue Crab Corn Bisque, a garden salad, battered fries and we split a Bleu Sky Burger. I can't say which was my favorite, so we'll have to go back. We were there mid-afternoon on a Sunday. They had been slammed mid-day and were out of their specials. We waited 20+ minutes to be seated as the staff worked hard to clean up from the influx, but we had good service and two great meals. We always love this restaurant and have celebrated special occasions in their meeting room. I'd give them 5 stars, but the wait, lack of staff, and limited menu left me no choice but a 4 out of 5. read more

You know I'm going to fall in love the moment I see kitties feeding on the porch of a restaurant. Seriously, let's me know they care! The service was very nice and fast. We sat at the bar top and were quickly offered drinks and menus. This spot is a GEM! I had the seafood and grits and it was delicious and very rich. Husband had the ribeye and it was also very tasty and the mashed potatoes were amazing. The restaurant was very busy so it was a bit loud inside but the lighting made it relaxing after a long day of travel. Wife and I stopped here for lunch while traveling south. Our server Calista was great, she took our orders and was very helpful with answering our questions. I ordered the prime Rib sandwich with collard. The prime Rib was really tender a dn flavorful and tasted great with the mushrooms and peppers. We had a great experience here, our server Elizabeth is a big part of what makes this place great, she is very knowledgeable, professional and engaging and a pleasure to interact with. This restaurant is truely a farm to table venue, it's surrounded by gardens filled with fresh ingredients that are incorporated into many of the dishes offered here. They have an exceptional drink menu with $10 Martinis only Monday's, I chose to upgrade my Dirty Martini to Ketel One Vodka and added (3) cheese stuffed olives for twenty-five cents each and well worth the investment. We enjoyed a Wild Boar Burger with their house sauce and a generous portion of bleu cheese crumbles cooked medium served on a fresh sourdough roll I chose the Pork Collards both selections were exceptional I highly recommend this combo - the collards were some of the best I've had anywhere, there's hot pepper vinegar on the table that added a complexity that makes this a signature dish. The burger is definitely a must try as well. We also ordered the Grill Chicken Brie Sandwich with curly fries, the chicken was tender and moist and finished with a hint of citrus served on the delicious sour dough roll as well. Deciding to dine here was a great choice and although the parking lot was mostly filled we were seated immediately without a wait. The prices were very reasonable and a great value considering the crafted food and drinks and the exceptional service, it also appears to be a local's favorite which means everything to a business that puts this much effort into everything they do, this is definitely worth your bookmark... read more

Wow, unexpected and very, very pleased we stopped here for lunch on our trip. the salad dressings are amazing, weekly shrimp and charred kale sale was great. How did they make kale taste like that? The Calabrese with Brie and pesto is similar to something I have been doing for years, just try a piece of warmed French bread with pesto and Brie on it and thank me later; this reminded me of that. The soup with andouille and ham with a bunch of vegetables was also nice if not a bit strong in flavor, dill maybe? Of course we snagged a key lime pie slice for the road which was nice. I wish we could stay and try the whole menu; this is one of those places where every ingredient on the plate can be tasted and the whole is greater than the sum of all parts similar to a symphony. This wasn't the least expensive lunch but I will say this. "Try to find something better for three times the price and you will not." This is what food tastes like without flavor-destroying refrigeration, yes refrigerators destroy flavor of everything. Now you know. Try a strawberry from the plant to your mouth and then try one refrigerated for one day if you don't believe me. read more
