We came here for a graduation lunch with two families. We did have to reserve well in advance (think September/October time frame) and they required a $100 deposit. It was raining when we came, but had it not, it would have been such a great place to walk around and explore. They have a garden area and just such a cute vibe. I felt like I was walking into an upscale farm house...and I loved it! I loved all the decor and the whole vibe, All the food we received at the table was amazing. We had crab balls and basal buttons, both of which were well gone before I could take pictures! Around our table we had a wide variety, 3 Tuna & Truffle, 2 Crabbie Patty, a Beastly Buffalo chicken, a cob salad and sides of curly fries, sweet mashed potatoes, grits, seasonal veggies and soup. I'm usually not a fan of collards, but these were so flavorful I found myself finishing them for the table. Visiting my sister in Tallahassee, she recommended this spot--and it did not disappoint. The place is decorated so cute and the outside seating is beautiful. You can go visit the farm on your way out which was super nice we got to see bunnies, chicks, and roosters. Now for the food.. from the mocktails to the appetizers and entrees, everything was incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. You can really taste the farm-to-table quality in every dish. You know I'm going to fall in love the moment I see kitties feeding on the porch of a restaurant. Seriously, let's me know they care! The service was very nice and fast. We sat at the bar top and were quickly offered drinks and menus. This spot is a GEM! I had the seafood and grits and it was delicious and very rich. Husband had the ribeye and it was also very tasty and the mashed potatoes were amazing. The restaurant was very busy so it was a bit loud inside but the lighting made it relaxing after a long day of travel. On our drive from Orlando to Mobile, we got to Tallahassee around dinner time. I knew this was a DDD favorite, so we stopped in. I am so glad we did. The freeze (Feb 26) took out the outside gardens, bvut the greenhouse was in good shape. The micro greens and herbs survived. The outside of the restaurant looks like it should be a fishing shack, but the inside looks like your favorite relatives' backwoods cabin. All finished and well-worn wood tables, cabinets, doors, etc. We were seated right away and water and drinks were served. We ordered the Crossroad Eggs, 2 cups of Blue Crab Corn Bisque, a garden salad, battered fries and we split a Bleu Sky Burger. I can't say which was my favorite, so we'll have to go back. They have a beautiful outdoor garden, sitting area and a beautiful garden in the back, which they use to cook their recipes and prepare their drinks with. Again, unfortunately the food fell completely flat. Fresh but flat. We got the catfish nuggets, crab cakes, and a bevy of other dishes. I was mostly disappointed with the crabcakes, which were mostly filling. It had very little crab meat. Additionally, the other food lacked seasoning . I would absolutely return to this restaurant for drinks and possibly another try at the food. I recommend you give it a try, too. read more

This restaurant is truely a farm to table venue, it's surrounded by gardens filled with fresh ingredients that are incorporated into many of the dishes offered here. They have an exceptional drink menu with $10 Martinis only Monday's, I chose to upgrade my Dirty Martini to Ketel One Vodka and added (3) cheese stuffed olives for twenty-five cents each and well worth the investment. We enjoyed a Wild Boar Burger with their house sauce and a generous portion of bleu cheese crumbles cooked medium served on a fresh sourdough roll I chose the Pork Collards both selections were exceptional I highly recommend this combo - the collards were some of the best I've had anywhere, there's hot pepper vinegar on the table that added a complexity that makes this a signature dish. The burger is definitely a must try as well. We also ordered the Grill Chicken Brie Sandwich with curly fries, the chicken was tender and moist and finished with a hint of citrus served on the delicious sour dough roll as well. Deciding to dine here was a great choice and although the parking lot was mostly filled we were seated immediately without a wait. Wow, unexpected and very, very pleased we stopped here for lunch on our trip. the salad dressings are amazing, weekly shrimp and charred kale sale was great. How did they make kale taste like that? The Calabrese with Brie and pesto is similar to something I have been doing for years, just try a piece of warmed French bread with pesto and Brie on it and thank me later; this reminded me of that. The soup with andouille and ham with a bunch of vegetables was also nice if not a bit strong in flavor, dill maybe? Of course we snagged a key lime pie slice for the road which was nice. I wish we could stay and try the whole menu; this is one of those places where every ingredient on the plate can be tasted and the whole is greater than the sum of all parts similar to a symphony. This wasn't the least expensive lunch but I will say this. "Try to find something better for three times the price and you will not." This is what food tastes like without flavor-destroying refrigeration, yes refrigerators destroy flavor of everything. Now you know. Try a strawberry from the plant to your mouth and then try one refrigerated for one day if you don't believe me. read more

"This is what happiness tastes like!" said my kid. Delightful experience and excellent food. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 pm. We waited 20 minutes and were seated. We walked around the gardens, petted a cat, and visited the chickens while we waited. The food was fresh, interesting, and delicious. We like the relaxed atmosphere and high caliber food. We tried the Tuna a la South, Seafood Heaven, and Stolen from N'awlins. Everything was beautifully plated and tasted incredible. We ended with meal with a hearty shared bread pudding. OMG. We are heading from central FL back home to MI in a MotorCoach and by chance grabbed a camping site nearby and decided to try this farm to table spot for dinner. Wow. The portions of food are huge. We ended up splitting a steak and frankly there was still too much to eat. 1. The steak was well prepared (over a grill, sizzling!). 2. The veggies were perfect. Date Night at Backwoods Crossing was GREAT. It is now ranked as our #2 favorite restaurant in Tallahassee. We are kind of ashamed and disappointed to learn that although it has evolved over the years, this Farm-to-Table spot has been in Tallahassee since 2016 (in different versions of its current self). Here' why it's #2 for us: The Service. Sohanie was fantastic. And true to her Sanskrit name, she was beautiful & pleasant and also timely, informed, attentive, and willing to engage. Great smile and good energy from her. The Vibe. If you have visited Farm-to-Table spots, this has the same feeling. We read the origin story of Backwoods Crossing after we left and the only thing better than that story was the service and the food. The Food. The basil button mushroom appetizer and the crab claw cakes appetizer were nicely portioned and flavorful starters. We had our eyes on just the crab cakes but Sohanie steered us toward theushrooms and we were pleased. The pesto sauce was a tasty and unique addition to grilled mushrooms. For our main courses, we ordered the Seafood Heaven and the Country Catfish. Both were served over yellow grits. The fry on that catfish was special: It was light, crispy, and spot on salty. The blackened shrimp was delicious and the cream cheese filling in the crab bites/balls was different and surprising good. The Drinks. The special cocktail included Tito's, peach, and chimichirri. It was too sweet, light on the alcohol, and needed citrus plus a little salt. We asked for lime and it enhanced the flavor. The Dessert. Bread Pudding (Yes!). Apple Crumble (No) because it was over spiced and we couldn't taste the apple. The Story. Great story of two brothers coming together to cook great food and grow the produce for self sustainability.
