    $ 100 gift card
    Bryan K.

    My wife and I like this place - the staff is friendly, the wine selection is good, and the food is tasty. Our family tends us to give us cards to use here because they know we like it. But when we went last night and tried to use a $100 gift card that was given to us for Christmas 2018, the owner informed us that he couldn't accept it, because that card was issued under the last owner, and that owner failed to inform him that there were outstanding gift cards he needed to account for. 1) That's not my problem - you should do your due diligence when you buy a business to determine what debts they may have that are now your obligation. 2) Florida law (https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/501.95) prohibits the expiration of gift cards except under certain circumstances, which were not the case in this situation. 3) The owner made no attempt to assuage my concern and disbelief. So now he has lost a customer over a $61 bill, I will share my experience with my family who will no longer frequent the establishment or buy gift cards, I have posted a negative review, and I will report the issue to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. All of this was unnecessary. I know that small and local businesses have struggled this year, especially bars and restaurants. But compounding the issue with poor customer service policies is not going to help.

    Trying to find a quiet lunch spot today & as we were walking by saw The Wine House was open. Nice little spot, great atmosphere, nice options for some good nibbles. My friend & I each got a flight of wines, a cheese board & pretzels/board. Loved they had some interesting German food choices so I need to come back. The only thing I was disappointed about (tho I get it) was that there were no sparkling wines available for 'by the glass' or flight choices. They were out of a few of the red wine choices, too, which is truly the main reason for a 4 star rating but I will certainly come back with others in tow!

    This is a really quiet elegant little place, but it's also very affordable. Our server was very attentive as well! The food is also really good and unique.

    What a nice surprise to find such a intimate, family run wine bar tucked away on Market Street. It was like a little slice of Europe that I would expect to find tucked away in a much larger city... or Europe! The vibe was low key but became lively because this particular night featured Grant Peeples performing his Americana mixture of poetry put to music woven in with an incredible knowledge of Tallahassee history. As a surprise treat, Mimi Hearn joined the band to sing a few favorites making the evening even more special. The jazz band plays there regularly on most if not all Friday nights and is incredibly talented. Between the jazzy trumpet player who doubled as a flutist and the drummer keeping the beat, there wasn't a minute we didn't enjoy. They were superb. The focus of food presentation and flavor had choices like a hearty cheeseboard, a flavorful stew, and shrimp on a bed of raw chopped brussel sprouts among other things. We had the stew and the shrimp dish and enjoyed both. The flavors folded into the stew told the story of a love of German history and heritage melded into delicious spices. As typical with wine bars, portions are on the lighter side, I think bread baskets would help a lot since the prices are on par with full meals at other mid-upper end restaurants. Although they had a selection of wine that should please most any palate, being non-drinkers I can't say much except that we ordered a burgundy recommended by the owner and found it very flavorful. If you're looking for something special, they can help you find the perfect choice. Surprisingly, as small as The Wine Bar is, there's an upstairs with a balcony and on another night I would love to sit up there. It was especially fun to listen to the father and daughter talk as they worked the tables throughout the evening...hearing her call him Papa with a pretty accent was straight out of a movie. As the music wound down, the daughter and her mom sat at the foot of the stairs resting and enjoying the music. Highly recommend you visit The Wine Bar for a nice evening out. It's cozy and when the band is playing, they definitely know how to keep the crowd entertained. There is always a cover charge per person, we knew that going in so I'm glad I wasn't surprised. We will be back!

    a basket of wine

    I was looking for a place that could help me create and deliver a custom wine basket as a thank you gift for my boyfriend's sister (I don't live in Tallahassee and had to do this all long distance). I tried several times to go through the major retailers, but it was impossible to order a basket online, nor would the local stores deliver. I wasted so much time and effort thinking they were my only option. I did a quick google search by zip code and found the Wine House. I quickly explained what I wanted- 3 Brut sparkling wines, nuts and crackers in a cute basket and they took care of it all in no time! They picked out the wines, PRINTED my card (no bad handwriting here!), allowed me to pay over the phone, sent me a photo of the finished product and delivered everything within 2 hours of my initial call. Michelle was amazing and I will definitely check them out the next time I'm in town.

    Exceptional wine shoppe and eatery - vast selection of artisan wines and gourmet dishes. Highly recommend!

    A great place to relax on a Friday evening. This used to be just a wine store but now they have a bar upstairs with seating on the main floor of the store. Their menu consisted of appetizers and some main entrees. The ambience was quiet and cozy, although the small tables can get cramped with four people sharing the space. We had the stuffed dates and the smoked salmon bruschetta. The stuffed dates were a bit too sweet and could've used a bit more of the pancetta. The bruschetta was not on the menu but the chef accommodated our request since we saw him bring an order to another table. The bruschetta topping was delicious but the bread was on the softer side, and I would've preferred it to have been a bit crunchier. The wine selection is vast(they're the wine house after all) so this would be the perfect place if you love wines. However, if you'd like a better selection of beer, then this won't be your go-to place. I tried the riesling on the wine menu- Riesling Dr. L 2012 Dr. Loosen Middle Mosel Valley from Germany and it was perfect-light and crisp with a hint of citrus and not too sweet, nor too dry. Our plan was just to stay for cocktails and appetizers but we ended up staying longer(after 7pm) so when we got our bill, we had sticker shock! A bill for almost $90 for three glasses of wine, a beer, two appetizers and a cover charge! We didn't realize there was a cover charge per person after 7pm because of a live performer! She was actually a good singer but no one told us that there would be a cover charge after 7pm. Also, the price for the smoked salmon bruschetta was a bit steep- $18 for 6 small pieces. The stuffed dates were $12 so we just assumed that the bruschetta would be within that price range as well. I usually don't mind paying more but I just felt it was just over-priced. I think the server should've informed us about the cover charge right when we sat down so at least we don't get a surprise on the bill!

As I looked out the window while gathering my belongings at the end of class, I discovered The Bar at Betton. I noticed nicely dressed individuals looking like they were enjoying some cocktails, wine and brews with their pals. I immediately texted my gfs and told them that we must try it out for our next girls night out. With that said, the following Saturday evening, we did! The parking was easy to handle. As we approached The Bar at Betton, I noticed indoor and outdoor seating areas, high tops, etc. The music was lightly playing in the background while sounds of conservation between friends were heard. A great gathering spot! I liked it so far. We walked in the doors, looked for a spot at the bar to sit (to the left) and was greeted immediately, WaY to GO Bar Staff! We ordered a few drinks - I tried a specialty cocktail named, "Champs-Elyssee" - it was a great ! Then, we talked with the bartender a bit and went about enjoying our girls night out. I snapped a photo of the menu because each dish that was served to other customers looked really good. Moistened my palate and smelt good too! Before leaving, we visited the restrooms which are located outside of the building. I thought that was neat too. Clean and stocked. Always a good thing! Anywho - I am glad I got to try The Bar at Betton out. I will be back and can't wait to try out the food sometime.

We were so fortunate to snag a table before Riccardo's completely filled up. Moments after we were seated, I overheard the staff indicate that they were already a full house. Granted this is Valentine's Day weekend, but I suspect that this is a regular Friday night at Riccardo's. Located in Betton Place, right in the heart of Tallahassee's Midtown, Riccardo's is a classic Italian family kind of joint. We walked in hungry and waddled out stuffed. We started our order with their famous "Secret Bread" and were also treated to their house bread with whipped garlic butter. No vampires will be of concern this evening. Hubby ordered a thin crust 14 in pizza with pepperoni and sausage. As good as their pizza is, it's always prudent to order extra for weekend leftovers. I'm not sure what ruler they use in their kitchen, but that was the biggest 14 in pie I've ever seen. Perfectly crispy edges complemented the sweet red sauce, cheese and toppings. We also ordered their secret bread with cheese. It was ooey gooey in the best way, and paired with their sauce, it was a bite of heaven. I ordered their classic Chicken Parm with a spaghetti side. I had to cry uncle before I finished the chicken. It was so much food. I watched the tables around us and everyone was equally enthralled with their own food. Every single table was full, as were many stomachs. Tucked away in the corner of Betton Place, Riccardo's is the BEST family Italian restaurant experience we've had in Tallahassee.
