Imagine this: you decide to try out a wine bar for their charcuterie! You arrive and the storefront looks like a ABC store. "Okay, you think, maybe this is a hole in the wall." You sit down with a dear friend and order their charcuterie board. $28 dollars for a two-person meat and cheese board. You wait in anticipation for your charcuterie to arrive while sipping on a $7 dollar bottle of sparkling water (which you learn later sells online for $1-$4). After not too long (thankfully), your waiter brings you the worst charcuterie board in Tallahassee. You need a numbered list to describe how bad it is. 1. There is barely any food on the board. 5 types of cheese, 3 types of meat, two types of crackers, three fruits, and olives. Sounds like a lot, right? Nope. Everything resembles remnants of cheese, meat, olives, and fruit leftovers salvaged from the can. 2. Each cheese offering is 3-4 "elementary school pizza party" slices, where about three of the slices equated to a single slice on a regular charcuterie board. You barely get enough cheese between two people to form an opinion on the cheese's taste, let alone be able to use the cheese knife provided to you. 3. When asking about the minuscule amount of cheese (just in case there was a hiccup in the kitchen), the waiter tells you that everything is measured out by weight. Also proceeds to tell you a story that other guests have also asked why there is so little cheese as a humorous anecdote. Also tells you about the best cheeses that are not on your board. 4. You receive similar tiny amounts of meat, crackers, and fruit, including one (n=1) bruised and small sliced strawberry, eight to ten (n=8-10) grapes on a stem, and two (n=2) wafer-thin slices of apple (both of which are dipped into the olives' juices contained in the plastic black condiment cup). 5. The crackers are not homemade. There're not enough crackers for the little bit of cheese you do get. One of the two cracker types is fried and tastes a bit like old oil. 6. All meats are fatty deli-type meats. Awful. 7. One of your cheeses and one of your meats are spicy with no warning or offered substitutes. 8. Your 8-10 grapes are noticeably squishy, bruised, and old-looking. When asked about them, the waiter tells you they look that way because they are "vine-ripened Tempranillo grapes." You (as in I) have had fresh Tempranillo grapes before. These are not Tempranillo grapes--they look like red grapes from your local grocery store. TLDR: Terrible charcuterie board for ants that costs you $28. You shamefully have to pay by QR code and leave hungry. If you want a delightful charcuterie experience, visit Hummingbird Wine Bar or Bar 1903. Both places have delicious charcuterie boards with larger portions and great prices. read more

We walked in and were immediately greeted by the sweetest hostess and seated at a high top table. The ambiance was perfection - I felt like I was in Italy! Beautiful wine bar and high tops throughout. We ordered the German cheese & cracker board - so impressive and filling! I'm hoping C&H remains a hidden jewel. If the word gets out, it would ruin everything! The experience you will have is amazingly well-versed servers, 5-star beautiful menu items, all completely unique to anything else locally. The anonymity is obviously intentional. If you don't accidentally see the window neon next to 5-Guys, you'll likely not know C&H exists. The current menu is dominated by seafood creations, duck, and more duck. A beautiful beef tenderloin is amazingly presented with a terrific adobo chocolate coffee crust. The server suggested a side of wild mushrooms that was the highlight of the meal. At $40 for a center cut filet, I was expecting something smaller than what was served. Finally, no to mention the restaurant ambiance would also be a faux pas. The decor is a recreation of an inviting, laid-back outdoor square, complete with awnings and a tree. C&H should be a destination spot, but don't spread the word. I finally got to try this spot! I'm bummed I never experienced the old location, but I believe the new location still has that great intimate feel, but is a little larger space. They do warn they are short-staffed so patience is appreciated. We definitely had to be. Our waiter Alyssa was working over time, but she did her best. I had the duck pot pie and it was delicious! A great flavor! I didn't read that it had mushrooms which is the only reason I didn't completely demolish it. My husband had the tuna and he very much enjoyed it. We came on Friday to celebrate a late Valentine's Day. I ordered the marinated duck breast and absolutely loved it! My partner ordered the wagyu sliders and enjoyed them, but they were on the smaller side. So we also ordered the "crack in a crock" which was delicious! We shared a slice of a the tiramisu as a dessert, the presentation was a little disappointing. The waiter tried his best to keep the slice upright, but when he set it on the table it fell to the side and a chunk of it fell on the table. A little disappointed by that. While their wine options are great, they also had a coffee blonde on draft that was surprisingly very good and got a couple rounds of, but it was pricey at $9 a glass. It was made locally though so made it worth it. The food was delicious as well. I highly recommend the quesadilla - very well done and the duck was nice and tender. Small wine bar in a strip mall between Five Guys and a Chinese chain restaurant. The tables are extremely small, but the interior is kind of cozy. Unfortunately, the food is only bad to ok and extremely overpriced. The charcuterie board was uninspired and the filet so hard that I could barely cut it. Not getting a decent knife didn't help. We started with a charcuterie which we all enjoyed - they were out of the German board but we were pleased with the meat & cheese board. My sister & BIL both got the seared tuna which I got a bite of & it was very good! My husband got the duck pot pie which he told me he was thinking about a few days later he liked it so much. I got their mushroom & cheese biscuit meal. Our drink choices were tasty & at the end I got a glass of Penfold's Grandfather port. Sooo good!! I know I know, the decor is outdated. It's a little dark and awkward in here BUT Clusters and Hops never disappoints. Sure they could update the place but as long as they never change their love of and perfection for food and wine, I won't mind a bit. Fun fact, they also have lunch a few days a week. I didn't know and i had never been for lunch until today. Check out the amazing filet lunch I had for $13. The veggies on the side were perfect and not too heavy for a lunch at all. I tried clusters and hops for the first time yesterday, and I can't believe I waited so long to come here. My bf and I had a reservation at cypress for dinner, but wanted to get appetizers here. Tristan made it such an enjoyable experience we can't wait to go back and try more. I got a bourbon barrel aged Malbec that was out of this world and my bf got a Spanish Grenache that he loved! Very reasonable for the quality of food and attentiveness of staff. It is a bit difficult to find the location, especially because the sign out front says "Wine and Cheese" and not the name of the restaurant. Parking is a challenge. The entrance of the restaurant is like walking into a bookstore or wine cellar, prior to reaching the dining room. Only a handful of tables, so it's quite intimate. Worth a visit. read more

This is Tallahassee's hidden gem. It is, hands down, my favorite restaurant. I have tried every entree on their menu at least once and they are all flawless. I have never gone and not been blown away. Their waiting staff is on a level of its own; classy, attentive, amiable, and just all together enjoyable to interact with. Guys, let's be honest. This is the best place in Tallahassee by far. In fact, as I drive through Monroe and I see a line outside Longhorn Steakhouse with a valet attendant directing traffic in the parking lot, it makes me think Tallahassee doesn't deserve this place at all. Holy f-Bomb. The dishes at Clusters and Hops are absolutely brilliant. Here you will find skillfully inventive takes on classic dishes. Aside from the food being brilliant, the wine selection is easily one of the best in the panhandle, if not the entire state. Lastly, the service is outstanding and the servers are super knowledgeable about the wine and dishes. If you're giving Clusters and Hops anything other than 5 stars I'm sorry but you're just... wrong. This place is absolutely amazing. The menu consists of dishes that leave you thinking "wait, am I in Tallahassee or France?". The wine selection is phenomenal and so reasonably priced I had a hard time leaving here without a few take home bottles. Then, as if extraordinary food and great wine selection weren't enough, the service is outstanding. As someone who has traveled around the world and enjoyed my fair share of Michelin starred restaurants, I can confidently say that Clusters and Hops is one of my favorite restaurants, ever. Well, well, well. I have heard about cluster and hops from a friend for a few years and finally decided to try it. Let's just say to date this is my favorite little hidden gem. Now, usually before I make such a huge statement I wait and try it again before giving such accolades but I was very impressed. The wine we chose was just okay I believe it was a Malbec. The truffle Mac and cheese was The cheesiest and trufflest (yes, I made that up), party in your mouth mac n cheese I have had in some time. On our cheese board the Asiago and the caramel cheese is a must have. We ended up buying some to go home. The duck and ostrich was a daring try I was feeling adventurous this night. It was so moist, juicy and melt in your mouth flavor town. The only smallest ding is they don't do anything for your birthday. Not even a slice of cheese, but nonetheless still loved our experience and the bill was cheaper than many of the mediocre restaurants in town. We will definitely be back. read more

This was my first time at this establishment and they did not disappoint. I went with some friends for a nice dinner and we started with a cheese board and some German Pinot noir. The cheese board was absolutely exceptional as well as the wine. I ordered the filet mignon medallions and they were cooked to perfection. I ended the meal with the creme brûlée and the flavor of the week was dark chocolate truffle with raspberry. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was a bit buzzed after 2. The mac and cheese has always been the go to appetizer but I wanted to try something different so I got the eggplant lavosh. ..an excellent dish but I don't think it will replace the mac n cheese in my heart. I didn't think I would be able to do an entree justice so I got the warm goat cheese salad. ..always a great choice. I was leary of desserts here after and incident in which the dessert was topped with a store bought cookie. However, I now have a new reason to go to C and H...the maple, mocha and hazelnut creme Brule. Pair that with a cappuccino and it's the perfect ending to a GREAT meal. We waited hours for our food... which we were told they were backed up. No big deal we thought initially as we weren't in a hurry. As time passed it became evident it was going to take a very long time, which we thought about leaving a couple times. We watched multiple tables walk out.. which should have been an indicator and left ourselves as well. We were also quite uncomfortable for some of the time we were waiting, as they had people at the bar very close to our table with their backsides eye level and crowding us... which this is due to the layout of the tables/bar and no fault of the other guests. The food finally came, unfortunately it was just bad and portions of it were very very burnt (it had been flipped outside down intentionally to hide it). We picked at what we were able to, mostly sharing just my steak (which was the only good part of the meal). We then sat and waited again for quite a to get our check... we had someone check on us because I think he could see our frustration and we expressed that we were ready for our check. Our waiter asked how it was and we pointed out we couldn't eat it either due to the food not being good (my husband was actually grossed out by his which has never happened before) or burnt, and he just basically was like oh sorry... my husband husband asked for a glass of wine or something to make up for things. We assumed with the hours it took, getting a replacement for the food wasn't an option. They didn't answered the request so when the waiter finally came back with the check, we asked again stating that it appeared that was not an option, and we were told as he mumbled walking away "no I'd have I pay for it". So we paid for our inedible and burnt items and went and got food elsewhere. Nothing like spending money on a relatively expensive meal and leaving hungry. We understand restaurants can have a bad night and we had enjoyed our meal before they moved locations. We were just so disappointed to see how completely unconcerned they were with their customers time or the quality of what they serve. This is one do the worse experiences we have ever had. We won't be back and I would imagine they lost more than us as customers tonight. read more

So Clusters and Hops may be my new favorite spot in Tallahassee. My boyfriend took me for my birthday on Wednesday night. It was pretty crowded, but we were able to get a table with no wait (they don't take reservations). The restaurant is dimly lit, which makes it a more intimate spot, perfect for a date. Our waiter was very friendly and offered recommendations on wine. We wanted something different, something we had never tried before. Clusters and Hops is the perfect place for this because they have such a large wine selection. In addition to the wines on the menu, you can also pick one from the shop for an addition charge. You can order by the bottle or glass. We ended up ordering a bottle of the Porrera Priorat, a Spanish wine, that the waiter said was his favorite. It was absolutely perfect, different than anything I had ever had before, but delicious. To eat, we decided to share a few small plates since everything sounded so tempting. We started with the Cheese & Sliced Meat for two which came with six different cheeses, three different meats, olives, grapes, apples, and three types of crackers. The cheese and meats were all delicious and paired well together, and with the wine. My favorite was the caramelized one. Although the cheese and meat platter was great, the other dishes are what stole the show! On special they were offering Kangaroo Sliders. I had never tried kangaroo before, so I couldn't resist ordering them. They came topped with foie gras, aioli (can't remember exactly what kind), caramelized onions, and goat cheese. It was love at first bite! The flavors all mixed together to make a mouthwatering little slider. I wish I could have this every day. Wow! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I tried the Baked Eggplant Lavosh. Another wow! The lavosh is a flat bread topped with artichoke, eggplant, bruschetta, parmesan, goat cheese, monterey- cheeder-jack, and white truffle oil. Phenomenal. With how good the dishes were, I think I will skip on the meat and cheese board next time. The cheese board was great, but something I could get anywhere. The other dishes were out of this world good, and I can not wait to see what else they have cooking. When I got home I could not stop raving to my roommates about how good my meal was, and how much I loved the experience overall. I can not wait to come back to try the rest of their menu! My boyfriend and I enjoyed our meal here. I love that it's very oddly placed (in a small plaza with just a mattress store) and the front entrance is a wine store. It's really fun and feels exclusive/secret! It's got very few seats. That said, we waited quite a while and boyfriend was HANGRY. He bought some chocolate while we waited. And we did enjoy perusing the wines (where we picked ours out). Heads up though, they charge a cork fee. This confused my boyfriend on the bill so just remember this when you pay. We ordered focaccia to start due to boyfriend's level of hangry and were shocked as to how long it took. But Im pretty sure there's only two chefs in the kitchen. Makes sense. Just make sure you snack before you come if you're at that level of hunger. When it did arrive, however, it was phenomenal. It also came with a cute little salad. I got the portabella chicken and he got the filet mingon. Mine was pretty good, but I wasn't over the moon. I actually think his was better! For dessert we got the banana pudding which was stellar. I got a sherry which was just OK. I was a little disappointed with the level of cheese at this place. I know it's a wine place, but I did struggle trying to pick something that wasn't doused in it.
