Egg, cheese, & sausage croissant. Build your own omelette with potatoes.

Great food service was a little lacking but overall would come back was down for FSU game day and found this place on yelp and thought we would try it out.

Woodchuck Special

Stumbled upon Woodchucks a few years ago when I was a freshman at FSU. While some may be off put by the exterior, I suggest that you walk inside and enjoy the food. While there are some items on the menu that I would not order again, the reality is that you come here for a cheap and hearty meal. I typically order the Woodchuck Special or the Hungry Man. The service is always nice and they are quite accommodating and are quick to greet when guests walk in. The ambience is rustic and clean, with nice decor showing the history of FSU and Tallahassee.

Breakfast Bowl

I've been coming here for the past decade, it has always been one of the best hidden gem locations in town. The wait can be EXTREMELY bad during peak times, especially on FSU game day weekend but it is well worth the wait for some great comfort foods. I got the breakfast bowl this time but their omelets are amazing, the burgers and sandwiches are great too. If you haven't come by to try this spot, you're missing out!

Western omelette, home fries and biscuit.

I can't believe I haven't updated my review in 7 years! What I can tell you is that Woodchuck's Cafe is still a great for breakfast! If you are a fan of traditional diners, then this place is for you. The menu covers all of the bases when it comes to breakfast, and then some. I've uploaded a menu so you can see the current prices and menu options. Suffice to say that they very likely have whatever you are in the mood for for breakfast. I went with a western omelette, home fries and a biscuit. Shortly after ordering the server came back and said that they were out of ham, but that I could substitute any other breakfast meat. So I went with a sausage patty. The omelette was full of filling and perfectly cooked. That home fries were delicious: thinly sliced potatoes are cooked on a flat top grill. I am a huge fan of the crispy bits of home fries, and I loved these. The biscuit was good, but not spectacular. The coffee was good, and they will bring you milk/cream if you ask (the table has containers of coffee mate). Don't let the location, next to a gas station mini mart, put you off. If you do, you'll be missing a great breakfast spot.

Ordered 1 biscuit vs the normal 2... all this for like 7 bucks!

Found this little divey diner gem on Yelp that had great reviews. They were not wrong. Greeted with a smile and told I could sit anywhere I liked and was asked what I'd like to drink before even sitting down. Coffee was in front of me within seconds and a menu and the young waitress asked if I would like any suggestions. She was sweet and we chatted a little about me being up in Tallahassee for the weekend and funny enough, she is moving to Tampa Bay for school in August. Good choice! One of my go to items to "test" a breakfast place is biscuits and gravy. After confirming the gravy is homemade with another wait staff member, I ordered my meal but with just 1 buscuits vs 2. She was also really sweet and ensured my order was done in a way to be more cost effective for me. GREAT customer service and I immediately thought how because of her actions, my savings on the bill was going directly to their tip. I noticed their display case had cupcakes in there that looked delicious even from afar so I got up to check out the situation. I learned that the owners (brother and sister) mother makes them. They weren't cupcake sized, they were muffin sized and only $2.79 each. Sold... okay maybe 3 were sold!! They weren given to me in individual to-go containers and the one had lots of toppings so was brought over to me without the lid because she didn't want to be the one to push it down and ruin the toppings herself. I thought that was cute. They all looked great so I understand her thoughts. When given my bill I was asked if I would like a to-go coffee. Everyone was very attentive and so nice. It was a great customer service experience on top of the great food. I mean, I could see the butter pieces within the biscuit let alone taste them. I actually thought about going back the next morning but made myself try another breakfast location.

Every time I am in Tallahassee I visit this location multiple times and this weekend wasn't any different. When I thought of breakfast I knew exactly where I needed to ho. It was a busy weekend so they were out of some of my favorite things but the secondary options I chose were just as amazing. I even managed to bring my niece one day and the next day she brought 2 friends along because the food was so good.

They run a promotion where if you sit at the bar, your meal is half-off. Unfortunately, we were 4 people with a 9-month-old so bar seating was not in the cards for us. We walked up to counter and placed our order. 3 burgers, a chicken sandwich, two small bowls of fries and two small side salads. After tip, it was $96. I've had less expensive sit-down dinners with top-notch service for that price. Our food was brought out to us not too long after we ordered. I will say the food was good. I ordered a double cheeseburger. It was comically large and nearly impossible to eat. The patties were thick and the beef was fresh and savory. I did the build-your-own. Mine had pickles, lettuce, tomato and cheese. The fries were ok. We got the parmesan truffle fries. They had the slight earthy taste of truffle and dusted with parmesan. The side salads were good. The kale was fresh and crunchy, it had a light vinaigrette on it that didn't weigh down the salad and complimented the bits of tomato and carrot. In the end, we enjoyed the meal but couldn't get past the price tag. If there is a next time, we will pop our 9-month-old in her car seat at the bar to get this food at a reasonable price.

The best I can describe it, is that it has a retro-craft feel. I really dig it. Food comes out quick and is excellent. Bar tender and staff is friendly and chill. You can taste the cooking oil is kept clean, and is changed often by the fries and the smell. You can taste the food is made to order with real food. They also have cool events all the time. Like a poker night, and trivia night. I think the poker nights are Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and 8pm. It's a little hard to find, tucked behind another building, just off the main road. Carful parking the little lot in the back, they have a massive pot-hole thing... just go real slow. Always seem to meet the most interesting people there. Nelson's Burger Bar is the "misfit island of toys" of the burger scene. Infact "scene" is exactly the right word to describe it. This place is a total trip. Next time your craving a beer and good burger, get yourself over here.

We sat at the bar- they had indoor and outdoor as well, but the bar was good. Our server was amazing- funny & knowledgeable about the menu- loved him. My husband ordered the Carolina dog and the Nelson burger and he loved them both. I loved my Nelson burger as well. It was big, but it was tasty and seemed like we had just cooked it on our grill outdoors. It was a nice, clean, bright space, and the food was delicious. We will definitely go back if we are in the area - craving a burger, hotdog, or sandwich - all of the sides/extras looked amazing as well. We will have to try those next time.

How can you tell if you are going to have a bad experience at a restaurant in the South?…read more There will be some signs I will share with you based on my recent visit to Big Randy's. Sign #1: Sweet tea brought to you is from a soda fountain and not fresh-brewed. Making fresh-brewed sweet tea does not cost much. The waitress admitted it to me. I cannot tell you how many times I have had an awful sweet tea from the tab and the the rest of the experience has gone downhill more times than stabilizing the sail. Sign #2: Buying ranch to go with your wings instead of at least being given an obligatory one. Wait...it gets worse...paying for a pre-packaged Ken's Ranch...not Ranch made in-house. Sign #3: BBQ sauce on your wings is Sweet Baby Ray's bought from the grocery store. That is what my wife received and I probably had Sweet Baby Ray's Gold on my overcooked wings. Sign #4: I haven't met many French fries I wouldn't eat but Big Randy's tested me. I couldn't eat them. They were like McDonald's fries except way too salty. My wife's fries had no salt. The only saving grace from a 1-star is at least they made my wings extra wet like I asked and the service was fine. That's how you earn a 2-star. Note: the fried pickles had more of a corn nugget batter and the floor was also very sticky.
