Marisa, our bartender, and Savannah were equally awesome and made our experience even better. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's kid-friendly, spacious, locally owned, and an all-around great place to spend some time. We'll definitely be back! As a side note, at my suggestion, Tommy approved the addition of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers flag--which, of course, greatly improved the place. Go Bucs!

When they told me the name, and I recognized it from the drive up (I was like: What is that place? Does anyone go there?), I was quite skeptical. Well, I'm not sure how Tommy and his wife pulled it off, but this is my new favorite place when we visit our friends. Excellent Cuban food (you don't have to like or know Latin food to enjoy it...think of it as very savory bar food)...those appetizers from the glass case (if you're from Miami, you know what I mean) could hold their own: excellent empanadas, croquetas, and papas rellenas. Super yummy steak sandwiches, cold beer, great bartender (Sage, I believe?) and the owner Tommy and his wife came over and talked to us for a while. (If he has not yet added the media noche egg rolls to the menu, ask him about them!!!). The vibe is still Tallahassee country....cool local vibe, great and kitschy decor...what a great f'in fusion. Hope this place becomes a local staple...not only for my friends, who live down the road, but for us, who visit often!!

Pro Tip: order ahead if you're in a hurry. We got most of our items quickly but the arepa took longer to make. I'm not complaining but just know if you're in a rush it may take a minute but it's Def worth it! The arepa with pork was super filling, enough to share for $12. Everything was so fresh and tasty, oh so crispy and those signature sauces, just wow! I was also floored by the mandoca ($4 for 1) and the tequenos ($7 for 3). I've never tried mandoca before and it was such a unique flavor and so special. And fried cheese with dough, ugh oh so good and happy dance! If you haven't been I HIGHLY recommend and the owner is super friendly! The food was so filling we didn't eat our empanadas but we are so excited to eat them later. :)

Island Fin Poke is the culinary equivalent of "I'll just grab something light" turning into "I…read moreregret absolutely nothing." Every time I'm in Tallahassee, this place is mandatory. Not optional. Mandatory. I don't even live nearby and somehow this restaurant still has a stronger hold on me than some family members. The ingredients are ridiculously fresh, the topping selection is next-level, and they've got options other poke spots don't even think about. But the real magic happens when you start building the bowl like a slightly unhinged food scientist. Wasabi peas? Elite move. Crunch, heat, excitement... maybe a minor sinus cleansing. Then hit it with the chili oil, which somehow creates this sweet-and-spicy combo that makes your taste buds stand up and slow clap. Toss in the dried seaweed with the seaweed salad and now we're dealing with textures like a Michelin chef who listens to EDM. And here's the veteran move: double the protein for six bucks. That's not an upsell, that's a public service announcement. The atmosphere is fun, the staff is always upbeat and helpful, and the whole place has that "you're about to have a good meal" energy the second you walk in. At this point, my Tallahassee trips are basically planned around Island Fin. Gas in the car? Check. Hotel booked? Check. Poke bowl the size of a toddler? Absolutely. If loving this place is wrong, I don't want to eat rice responsibly.

I'm knocking off a star because the volunteers that were taking orders at the counter weren't as warm as they could've been and I was actually missing a portion of my order. The chips were okay, salsa too, and even got the queso - standard fare. This is where good ended. My friend ordered the burrito and enchilada combo. It was swimming in fat, which I originally thought was water or some meat juice. It didn't look great and he tried to keep his chin up about it, but he finally admitted it wasn't very good. He said it was lacking flavor and that liquid was a pool of oil. I ordered the Fajitas Mixtas. I love fajitas. Not these. The flour tortillas (3) were street taco size and they had been nuked to oblivion. Fortunately (sarcasm here) I had already ordered extra when the meal came out as I could see the foil pouch was so small the meal would need more. Those extra three pulverized tortillas cost me $2.99. The steak was loaded with sinew, the chicken was cooked beyond the point of being well done, and the shrimp were okay - just very little seasoning. The side plate with the lettuce, pico, sour cream, guacamole, rice and beans was a typical portion, but the refried beans were not good. So frustrating paying over $50 for two and the meal was one where I specifically rejected the box for my leftovers. Never again. This place is not worth it at all.

A restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived. We went inside, but let the server know we were gonna sit outside. Several minutes passed and menus were delivered. It took several more minutes for the server to return and take our order. I have to say the food is worth the price of admission! We ordered enough options so that we could take home leftovers for the next day's lunch. We ordered the chorizo tacos, served, and softshell flour tortillas. They must've been baked slightly because they had a little bit of structure to them. There is ample chorizo in each taco. Delicious! We also ordered an arepa, empanadas, tostones, and yuca fries. Everything was delicious, plated individually, and tasted wonderful. My question the reason we don't visit this restaurant more often. We were glad to visit and we plan to return!
