Had lunch there today, the chicken is so good and the toast is my favorite. I really like their sauce too. The food was hot and service was great. food came out really fast too. Portuons are perfect as well. More people should eat here for sure read more

My friend took us here for lunch today! I've never been here, or heard of this place before! It was completely dead when we came here, not a single other customer was here today! The interior was small and simple, with some wooden tables, metal chairs, and booths. I ordered a 6 finger box. With fries and French toast! I didn't realize it came with Comeslaw, which I don't like. But thankfully they were very kind and replaced it with another piece of toast, which was very gracious of them! The fries were very tasty, well cooked and seasoned! The toast was also pretty good! The fingers were pretty tasty as well! Delicious seasoning and very well cooked! Overall, it was pretty good! Good food, good little sit down spot! Nothing too special, but nothing bad either! Definitely a good recommendation! read more

We compared Guthrie's vs. Raising Cane's: Guthrie's pros: chicken was great, a little chewy but the seasoning made it a lot better than Raising Cane's chicken fingers which lack much flavor and require salt. Guthrie's cons: the crinkle-cut fries were large and not very crispy. They were soggy, squishy, and a little soft, so that they tasted more like potato strips than fries; the service in the drive thru took about 5-10 mins which wasn't ideal. Overall, Guthrie's had better chicken but otherwise Raising Cane's was probably a better choice (both serve nearly identical menus). read more

3.5 stars. Fresh moist hot chicken fingers from the fryer. The place was dead empty on a spring Sunday lunch hour despite the endless stream of cars going by to Costco. Occasionally a car would pull in to the drive thru. They took about 30% off my bill. Don't know why, but very nice - especially as a 2 sauce charge. The tangy tasting bbq sauce worked well with the hot light grease. They even threw in a Tabasco packet and salt/pepper. This is a sparkling new location - and the chicken tenders certainly tasted better than bland Canes. The tactile styrofoam cups here were a great surprise - and a reminder of what Chick-fil-A alas got rid of. Give them a shot. read more

The place was dead me and my husband and my two kids went in there. They have a Tweaker lady working there. I don't like how you can't get your own drinks. You have to have somebody get your own drinks. The bread was too salty fries were not even crispy there. Chicken was way way too greasy. I didn't like it. I highly don't recommend people to go in there or go there. read more

The service was amazing. For a fast food restaurant they are super hospitable. They even deliver the food to our tables and maintain a very clean seating area. The chicken was crispy and made fresh. The parking lot has plenty of spots. Only issue is the Costco traffic on the weekends. Recommend coming on a weekday or later in the evening. We cam on a Saturday during lunch time. Turning left is a little troublesome.other than that food and service was amazing. We will try the family bucket next time. read more

I loved the fries and tre sauce! If you are expecting Canes... go to Canes- (also wondering if Canes got the idea from here.... .). This is very fresh! Lighter-breaded chicken fingers. I'd come back. read more

Wanted to like Guthries but greasy chicken, limp fry's and an aftertaste that would not go away make me want to go to other chicken finger purveyors. Went thru drive through, ordered 6 finger meal with fries, coleslaw, Texas toast and a coke for a little over $18.00. Asked for crispy fries, waited for order. Got limp soggy fries. Oh and the Texas toast looked good but was lacking and pretty flavorless. Can't comment on ambiance but most likely not going back when there are so many other places to get good chicken and fry's . read more

Stopped into the new Guthrie's during opening weekend. Great new addition to Carson City. Very similar to Raising Canes. We ordered inside and waited for our food. Wait was not too bad and it was very busy. Two four finger combos and the sandwich combo was about $40. None of those came with slaw which I didn't realize until after I ordered. The toast is way better than Canes. SO much butter! Fries are a little less good, but still great. The tenders are on par with Canes but better seasoned. The sauce is almost exactly the same. Overall, great food and hits the chicken tender craving just right. My only complaint was the unsweet iced tea. Something was very off about it. Very chemical-ish flavor. The inside is nicely decorated and the outside has a decent amount of parking. It is near the Costco and they also plan to add in a car wash, so I can see this area becoming very congested. Great new addition to CC! Will be back and likely part of the regular eating out rotation! read more

I believe Guthries is older than Canes so they aren't a Cane's knockoff but they do share the same menu items: Chicken fingers, crinkle fries, coleslaw, and toast. They do offer more sauces than Cane's but their special sauce is similar, maybe a little more sweet than Cane's. We only tried the fingers, none of the sides. They are good but more on the salty side. For comparision's sake I think Cane's tastes fresher with lighter salt so you can taste the chicken more. Cane's batter is lighter too imo. Overall not bad, better than most fast food tenders but comes behind Cane's. read more

Okay, let's set the record straight: Guthrie's WALKED so that Cane's could run. That's right--if you think Guthrie's is "like Raising Cane's," you've got it backwards. Guthrie's came first, and honestly? They're still the superior chicken strip spot by a landslide. I stopped by the Carson location (local love ), and I'm officially a fan for life. First off--the chicken fingers? Juicy, tender, lightly breaded to golden perfection. They taste way more natural and less "mass-produced" than what you get from Cane's. You can tell these are real-deal chicken strips, not those rubbery mystery tenders you've tried elsewhere. And THE SAUCE. I don't even have the words. Guthrie's sauce is like Cane's, but leveled up. Creamier, tangier, more flavorful. Their crinkle fries? Hot and crispy. The toast? Thick, buttery, and grilled just right. The coleslaw? Fresh and crunchy (and I usually skip slaw, but not here). Everything hits. Bonus points for great prices--better value than their more-famous competitor--and the staff is super friendly. You feel like they actually care, and they'll remember you if you come back (which you will, trust me). Bottom line: Guthrie's is the OG The food is better The price is right It's local You're sleeping on it if you haven't tried it Support local, get amazing food, and let Guthrie's show you how chicken fingers are REALLY done. Carson's got a gem- don't miss it!! read more

In 1965, Hal Guthrie, a proud Auburn (SEC) Alumni, opened the very first Guthrie's as a drive-in restaurant in Haleyville, Alabama. "Warrrrrrr Eagle!" Their chicken fingers specialty began in 1978, and the chain is proud of their sauce. Almost all of Guthrie's restaurants remain located in the Southwest USA, with only the Boise and Carson City locations being geographical outliers. I'm not sure why Guthrie's came out to Carson City, but it's local location is close to both Costco and Bodine's Casino. Maybe it's also my sense that chicken-based fast food restaurants are on the rise beyond Chick Fil A and Raising Cane's, the former located nearby closer to Carson City proper. There's also the new Big Chicken in Minden. As Gayle and I don't dine out a lot, let alone for fast food, we may or may not experience all this fully. My chance came last night as we attended a Reno event, and got on the road home rather than go to some nice bistro like the someplace that the Bellville Wine Bar. Our decision was for her to heat up leftovers and for me to try this Guthrie's (drive-through). BOTTOM LINE: - I'll be back to take deeper dive. - Nice new clean building, double drive through and as far as I could see a nice fast food interior. - The chicken finger sandwich (including sauce) was very good. I enjoyed the fries as well, even though they cooled down a bit during the drive. - Drive through time was way too long, and probably exceeded an In-N-Out wait, except in this case there was no line. Hence 3 Stars instead of 4. read more

I was very excited to try this. Sadly this will be my one and only time going there. Drive thru wait time was over 15 min. Drive thru employee took forever to count the change I gave him. We were excited to try Guthrie's because we are big fans of Raising Cane's. We ordered the special they had - 12 tenders, 2 fries, 2 toasts, and 2 drinks. We were the only car in the drive thru but there was a bit of a wait. The tenders were incredibly dry, overcooked, and borderline burnt. The fries are meh, no seasoning (maybe even no salt??). The toast is good. The sweet tea was great! They need to figure out their chicken situation especially considering that is all they serve. Will not return. read more

The chicken fingers were top notch. This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. The dipping sauce was superb and had a lot of flavor. We decided to try this new chicken tenders place next to Costco. We were on our way to The Max Casino for some Karaoke. We went through the drive thru to take it to go. The person on the other side of the mic was very friendly. We took a little bit deciding what to try so we ended up doing 2 Chicken Sandwiches, 1 on a bun, the other on their Texas toast. We also ordered there 12 piece chicken tenders which comes with 3 dips and 2 sides of fries. Total prices came to $43. We had left over tenders so for $43 it works have fed 5 people. The chicken was very moist and had a great flavor. My husband and daughter both said their chicken sandwich was so good. I tried both and I loved it on the Texas Toast. The fries were plentiful. Only suggestion would have been for the fries to be a bit crisper. All in all we will definitely come back and try it again. I hope it's just as good. My rating is a 4.5 stars. read more

Very friendly workers! Fries were a tad bit too underdone for my taste. For my friend and I, everything was so salty. He loves salt, I do not, but even he found it a bit much. The sauce was ok but it had an odd aftertaste for me, same with the coleslaw. Location is great but I don't really ever see it busy. Not sure if I'd come back. Really disappointing given my chicken tender obsession. read more

They are trying to be like Kane's. I have been driving by this place for a while and my wife decided to stop in after a Costco run. I was kinda excited to try it out. A Canes's competitor? I had to go and see. I'm a huge fan of crispy little tantalizing tenderloins of chicken goodness, however, this place didn't fully cut it for me. The drive through was very easy, the staff was friendly, and the menu looked very familiar as if it directly ripped a page out of Canes playbook. The fries were not bad. Thicker crinkle cut style almost as if a crinkle cut fry had a kid with a traditional steak fry. The chicken fingers looked delicious, but were a bit saltier and a little more seasoned than Canes. Not Cajun, but a more hint of a kick. Not a deal breaker, but not my favorite. The dipping sauce, almost identical. The Texas toast was half the size of what you'd normally expect in terms of thickness and they used a garlic butter. It's not bad if you're into garlic. I liked it. If you like Canes, this place is worth a try so you know you that you have options, however, after my experience, I'm likely going to stick with Canes as my go-to quick stop for chicken fingers, but I had to try it. What's comes to mind is the saying, "often imitated, never duplicated". But don't knock it til you try it. read more

I made a damn Yelp for this place. Unironically this place is wildly good. I drive past it all the time and seldom see people, and decided to give it a go. Chicken cooked so perfectly it melts in your mouth and fries cooked just right. The sauce to boot is also good. The ambiance in the place is pretty casual, nothing crazy. Like a nicer quality fast food place. I'd highly recommend giving it a go, seriously for the price it's worth an experience, and if you had a good time like I did - then go back and enjoy some more. I'm sad to say I don't think this place will last very long, and I don't want to see it go. It's got better fried chicken than ANY fast food place like KFC or Big Chicken. read more
