Coming in this restaurant, I was immediately greeted and felt like at home. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quiet and warm. Like you're sitting at a fireplace with a warm cup of hot chocolate. The food itself was delicious. I've done culinary arts. The spices, herb was well blended into the dishes. I got the variety appetizer. Traveled India 3 times...this Indian food is some of the best I have experienced.in America..simple, fresh, delicately aromatic, perfectly delicious. I got take out and I quite liked it!! This was a post-hike dinner so I was super hungry! I ordered online and the food was ready in about half hour, the time it took me to get there. I got the chicken biryani and the vegetable noodles. I wanted both to be spicy. They were medium spicy. I would've enjoyed more heat. The chicken was cooked well and there was good flavor in the rice. The raita, mint chutney and the salan were also good. The noodles were on the sweeter side but also delicious. Both the chicken mo-mo dumplings and the stir fried noodles are delicious. Oh, and the dal soup. There's a supercharger nearby in Montrose, so I have stopped here a couple times. The place was pretty quiet since we showed up right as they opened. My parents are in town and my wife and I had heard good things about Guru's from locals. The menu is very clearly marked for dietary restrictions and I was impressed with the "gluten free" labeling. I have celiac disease and I had no issues with gluten whatsoever, which I can't always say even when places are seemingly transparent on the menu. The owner was excellent and recommended a myriad of dishes for us to share. Pretty much whatever you get here you can't go wrong. Service was quick and timely. A delicious and welcoming restaurant! It has a very comforting vibe the second you walk in with kind and patient staff. We ordered the Vegetarian Sampler, the Guru's Sampler, and the Tandoori Chicken and shared for five hungry people. It was enough food. It was also tasty!! The Saag Paneer was some of the best I've ever had. The rest of the platters were very good stereotypical Indian food, so I'd recommend trying the more unique Nepalese and Himalayan dishes. My favorite restaurant in Montrose, bar none. I love the people but it's the food that keeps me coming back for years and years. The flavors are spot on and perfectly seasoned. You never feel that yucky feeling because it's all fresh and not greasy. The Saag and Naan are amazing as is their tandoori. I have never had anything on their menu, that I haven't enjoyed. The ambiance is not fancy but homey. I recommend going to Guru's if you like lovely, authentic Nepal and Indian food. read more

Wanting something a bit different, we fired up the Yelp app to see what was around and what was still open. It had been a full day of national park adventuring and we were famished. The whole of Montrose was pretty darn sleepy on a Saturday night, though we were out a bit later than normal, there was only one other party in the restaurant. They have seating spaced out and closed off every other booth for social distancing, and hand sanitizer at every table. It was lightning when we saw it on the menu--there's a sampler platter for like $25 and that seemed perfect for the two of us. It was a short 15 minute wait or so, and then the food came out. I like tasting all the things, and this was the perfect fit. Of course there was chicken tikka masala but with the regional flare it was different than any other I had tried. Saag paneer, naan, a lentil dish, a goat dish--it was really all very good. The tandoori chicken was the obvious exception, it had clearly been kept warm for a long time after cooking and had it been fresh I'm sure would have been good. Now, when we saw the size of the platter we were worried we wouldn't get full, but about 2/3 of the way through we realized this is the magic of Indian/Nepalese cuisine. It fills you up. We were stuffed when rolling out of there and left no room for dessert. It's certainly not a fancy spot but it was warm, flavorful food after a long day and it hit the belly in exactly the right way. read more

Even though I found their food above average in taste but I was disappointed with their service. The waitress hardly smiled and came out as rude sometimes. She also dropped the spoon on the table when refilling rice and never replaced the spoon. All this led to a sub optimal experience. I will probably have to consider hard to go back. read more

I dont know if I'm being too strict or not strict enough. Overall the food was pretty bad! I ordered the veggie thali and an order of fried veggie momos. I'm writing this as my stomach is starting to ache. The saag paneer was flavorless. The paneer in it was too firm like it was added right before they gave it to me and not cooked in with it. Also, it looks like they just mixed some cream in at the end just to thicken it up. The daal was bland, pretty much no seasoning at all. The korma was tolerable. Again, mixed in plenty of cream. Cream is suppose to be in, it but it's supposed to be cooked into it. This, as well as the other things, looked like they tried to make them seem fresh by heating them up and adding more cream to give the impression that it was fresh, but it was not. The Aloo thing was not good either. The thali also came with a samosa. That was pretty decent once you mix the chutneys on top of it. I couldn't even eat the fried momos. Tasted really bad. I even tried putting the chutneys on them and still not eatable. I'm rating this based on a few things. As far as Nepali food goes, I'm surprised they are serving this, as the staff all looked Nepali. Meaning they should know the food and how not authentic it is. I've been to plenty Nepali restaurants, not to mention, I've been to Nepal. This is not good even with the simplest criteria. Even if you remove the Nepal aspact from it and trying to be autheinc, and base it on just quality of food, it doesn't help. Sometimes food it good and doesn't have to be authentic or even close to what it's being represented as. But this was not the case. Sorry for being harsh, but I would not recommend. read more

Absolute best Indian food I have had since I have moved to Colorado. (4 years) We start it off with the samosas, they give you two very large ones. We also tried the cheese naan. I've never had cheese naan like this it was very warm, melty and tasty. My husband had the lamb vindaloo he was warned twice about how hot and spicy it was, which is exactly what he likes. I ordered the chicken tikka korma. I was surprised at how tender and delicious the lamb was. It was spicy but the yogurt sauce help cool it down. The korma was also delicious and we ate every last drop of the gravy. They told us they also have a restaurant in Grand Junction. I would definitely recommend this place to everybody. Great restaurant on main st in Montrose. We were in town visiting Black Canyon National park and we always look for local restaurants to try. We like trying authentic ethnic restaurants. This place came up on a Yelp search and we thought we'd try it. I saw the pictures of the buffet and thought that would be a good introduction to Nepalese food. However, I didn't realize the buffet was only for lunch. So, we quickly had to figure out something to order from the menu. The young man helped us decide what to order and we all enjoyed our meals. My boyfriend and I are both huge fans of Indian/Nepalese food. I picked this restaurant in particular because of the platter dishes where you get a lot of different items for a lower cost. We both got the vegetarian Guru's Thali. It came with a couple of curries, naan, lentil soup, a chai tea, and a samosa for 16$. It even came with a few chutneys to dip and drizzle over the food. The curries were very flavorful and the naan was very thick and fluffy. Everything came out hot and fresh. Definitely stop in and give this place a try! read more

Paul and I stopped in for lunch today at opening and had our choice of seats since we were the only ones there at that time. We switched booths twice thanks to one booth with such well worn seating that sinkage was a problem, and then again because the table was too far from both both seats. Our third try landed us a less worn, appropriately designed booth. Like the booths, the rest of Guru is dated, but it is clean and welcoming thanks to the nice people who work there, the wonderful aroma of various spices, and the soft music. Our server insisted that the buffet was the way to go, and although I am typically opposed to buffets due to my tendency to overindulge, I went with her recommendation. I was glad that I did. Everything I tried was good. I was thankful that two of the dishes, the chicken curry and the meatballs, had a good amount of heat. The naan was amazing. I asked what kind of flour they use and the server said they use regular (all purpose?), but I think they mix another flour with it, as both the texture and the smell were unique. Stopped in Montrose for dinner on a motorcycle trip. We have eaten Indian food many times before but we do not have the opportunity to eat Himalayan food often. So we decided to try some of those dishes off the menu. The chicken mo are crispy dumplings with a tasty sauce and an enjoyable appetizer. My husband and I shared the lamb bhuteko and Himalayan noodles with chicken as our entrees. We enjoyed both entrees. We hope we get the opportunity to eat Himalayan food again soon. read more
