I don't understand the high reviews for this place. I had the mole chicken enchiladas, the chicken was canned and so was the mole sauce. My friend had shredded beef taco and pork taco, the meat on both was nearly inedible. read more

We're on a road trip and found this place via the Internet. Holy cow! The food is so delicious and the portions are massive. I had the ceviche tostada and chili Rellano à la cart. As far as my limited knowledge, I can say this is authentic Mexican food. Great quality produce and ingredients. The homemade chips are well above par. We ordered takeout and the food was ready in about 15 minutes. Super fast and easy. The inside of the place is bright and vibrant. There was the casual hum of people talking and enjoying their dinners when I walked in to pick up my food. Overall it seemed clean and well taken care of inside the restaurant. Staff were professional and straightforward. I haven't sampled much of the Mexican food places here in the Montrose area but this one set the bar high. I'd recommend dining in if you get the nachos deluxe though...the chips were basically a corn meal by the end of the five minute drive and five minutes out of the kitchen with all the cheese. I have celiac disease and I had absolutely no side effects from the food. High praise for a Mexican restaurant when it comes to cross-contamination. read more

We love this place, it's by far the best Mexican food in Montrose. Fresh salsa and warm chips, quick attentive service and authentic environment. I usually get the chile relleno which is always good, not too spicy. They know how to cook carne asada too, it's well seasoned with crunchy charcoaled edges. Full bar with good margaritas. read more

Service was friendly enough, but they forgot to bring my margarita. The complementary cabbage slaw was pretty good, but I would not recommend the chicken mole enchiladas or the veggie enchiladas. Both were bland and uninteresting. The veggie ones look like they dumped out a pack of frozen veggie mix, wrapped it in a tortilla and dumped some enchilada sauce on. Not super impressed overall. Restaurant is off a main road in Montrose and next to a charming Safeway fuel center. Mmmmm gas fumes! Our group of four was seated immediately on a Thursday night. Drink orders were taken and chips and salsa consumed. Also had a cabbage slaw that went with the chips which was different. More texture than flavor, the salsa also tasted more of tomatoes sauce than onions and seasoning. Being a veggie I got the vegetarian burrito. Rest of the group got soft and hard shell tacos and a combination plate to split. Normal orange rice and brown cheesy beans. Fairly bland but my burrito was stuffed full. Stoked with that, but the rest of my parties food unfortunately was about as flavorful as the generic orange rice. read more

We stopped in on the way to the airport before I made my final leg of the journey home. The atmosphere reminded me of Guadalajara or 3 Margaritas. We started out with the customary chips and salsa which were accompanied by a cabbage pico de gallo. It was alright, not the best, but not the worst I've ever had. For my entree, I had the taco and cheese enchilada combo. The rice was awesome! It had vegetables in it as well, which nutritionally, made me pretty happy. The beans were kind of gross. They were runny and lacked in flavor. The enchilada was good and so was the taco, but my chicken in my taco was a tad bit dry. Pretty run of the mill, but nothing too impressive. I was rolling 2 and 3 stars back and forth in my head. When I thought about other Mexican restaurants I have dined in, the phrase "Meh, I've experience better" flashed in my head. So, I'm sorry El Jimador, but I have had better. In El Jimador's defense, the party I was with told me they have eaten here several times and it was not as good as it usually is. However, next time I'm in Montrose, I'll probably pick something else to try. read more

Everything here was consistently good. Fajitas for two, flavorful and with generous amounts of sweet yellow and red bell peppers which are much more flavorful than green. The rice and beans were average. If you have kids they have the best kids meals I have ever seen at a Mexican restaurant, fantastic french fries and a good sized quesadilla. My only complaint is the waitstaff couldn't understand me. Things like, no more ice. Thankfully we had a bilingual speaker in our party!! read more

Excellent service, food, whole experience. So glad to find this place. To start with I must brag about the coleslaw salsa. I've never had anything like it and was so good and so was the regular salsa. We had the Diablo shrimp and the Al mojo de ajo Shrimp. Both were delicious and the shrimp were large good quality and nice portions. Also the mushrooms in the dish were good and blended with the sauces nicely. Rice and beans were good too.
