I had been to the other location before and remember it was a breath of fresh air for a very small area that often will have limited food options. We were a group of eight and had no problem getting a seat on the patio on a Thursday evening this summer. The service was fast and doing her best for the size of the party, she forgot a couple of things, but she was still great. We all loved our dishes, I got the butter chicken and the Samosa, and it was exquisite, also the cold chai tea. It's so awesome that this little town of Crested Butte has so many great mom and pop shops. I picked up some food for takeout and it fed me for three meals! I ordered the vegetable thukpa, garlic, naan, and the chicken appetizer. The soup was great - though it could have been a bit spicier (I requested extra but I also get that restaurants play it safe with spice). The chicken was flavorful (though it needed a bit of salt) and was a generous portion for the price - I ended up splitting between three separate meals. The garlic naan (also needed salt) was good but it was even better toasted the next day. My favorite part was the wildly precise ready time of the food. Sherpa Cafe has the best garlic naan bread I've ever had! This Indian/Nepalese spot was perfect after a long trip in the car from Denver. They make their chai tea in house, and it's fabulous. Not too spicy, it is creamy and sweet. Chicken tikka masala was perfect. Also ordered a chow mein noodle with lamb- lots of meat in the dish and the noodles were great. Really warm and inviting staff. There was lots of tables with beautiful decor from Nepal throughout the restaurant. I even borrowed a book from their stack, on mountains to look through as I waited for my food. The Momos tasted authentic and were made in house. Got into Crested Butte Sunday evening and set out for dinner after a long day of travel. Turns out there's not a ton open on Sundays in CB, but Sherpa Cafe was there for us and they did a great job! You can sit indoors or outdoors; the inside is snug and cozy with not a ton of seating. The single-person bathroom was clean and tidy. We were happy to hang out outside and people watch. Service was very polite and sweet and got our orders out quickly and efficiently. We shared orders of samosas, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and chicken momo. The samosas were light and crispy, not greasy at all, and came with a lightly spicy dipping sauce that we all liked. The chicken tikka masala was super creamy, maybe a little on the sweet side compared to other versions I've had, but still delicious with the perfectly aromatic basmati rice. Weirdly enough, the garlic naan was the weak link -- it wasn't buttery / crispy enough for me. Still enjoyed it, but I've had better. Lastly, the chicken momo were tender, flavorful, and numerous. In these covid times it's great to eat outside on their patio. They set up metal picnic tables under the beautiful Crested Butte sky. Firstly, you go inside to order your food and they will come outside and bring it to you. The family and the waiter are all very friendly and wonderful. The chai tea is particularly delicious with great overtones of cinnamon while the Mango Lassi has great smooth yogurt taste. I highly recommend both. The garlic naan bread is delicious with any entree you order. The mimosas are particularly well-cooked. The breading is nicely browned and crispy. Best place to eat in crested butte! Even if you're unsure of Himalayan/Indian food, I promise you will LOVE Sherpa Cafe. The food is absolutely delicious. We almost didn't come here, even though it's rated #1 on Yelp in CB. But I'm so glad we did because it was the best food. Reservations - they don't take reservations or follow a waitlist. If there's a table, you'll get it, if not, you can wait around until one becomes available. TIP - 5pm-6pm is not busy. Come after a day of skiing or hiking and you'll get a table easily. Evenings are more packed and you may see a line out the door. Drinks - a very small drink menu of some wines and beers. Nothing fancy. Don't expect to come here for drinks. The food is why you come here. TIP - grab a drink a the dogwood before or after dinner. Food - I don't know where to start because everything was amazing. But here's a go: 1. Naan bread - GET IT. As an app, with your meal, any which way. Garlic and cheese. We ended up ordering 2 or 3. 2. Chicken Momo (dumplings) - everyone was ordering these so we felt like we had to. Not as appetizing as I had imagined, but still good. 3. Lamb chow main - if you aren't sure you like Indian spices, order this! Very mild and super yummy. Sort of reminds me of Chinese vegetable lo mein 4. Sherpa Stew - holy crap this was DELICIOUS. One of the most popular menu items. Mild in Indian spices but loaded with so much flavor. Get it! 5. We loved Sherpa. It was our first time eating Nepalese food and it was just delicious. The place is a small, unassuming spot off of Elk. We ate the saag paneer, which is like a spinach dip with cheese, the garlic Naan, the chicken makhari sp?) and the noodle dish. The chicken makhari was the clear winner of the table. Our server was so cool and made us feel welcome. We wish they had desserts, as I'm sure they would have been amazing! We went back for lunch the next day as well and tried out some more items. What a fun and different find! We ordered chai tea to start, it was so tasty and warmed us right up. Next we ordered the chicken dumplings.. also very good. One order could be enough for three people to share.. maybe even four. We were starving so two of us chowed down on the order. Then we ordered two chicken dishes and the garlic naan.
