The Nepalese influence on traditional Indian dishes made this one of my all time favorite Indian restaurants! Wow! Dishes like the Chicken Tikka Saag were beyond good. The flavor was so much better than any Saag I've ever had! We also love the Masala and again the flavor was so different. The serving dishes are pretty and look like they are authentic from India. The service was also great! The owner spent so much time with us! I wish I lived closer because this would definitely be a "go to" place for me. The only complaint I have is the garlic naan needed more seasoning and oil or butter as is was a little dry. Also, the booth seating was very uncomfortable. Gosh, we inhaled this.... I didn't even get a chance to take a photo of the chicken tikka masala, chicken saag, and buttered chicken.... A group of 7 of us stopped by, one person was a vegetarian so she ordered some noodle soup and the veggie momos. The rest of us each ordered a Guru Non-Vegetarian meal deal w 2x the dishes and a naan bread. We all ordered the garlic naan by adding an extra $1. We got mostly chicken dishes with one shrimp dish. Everything was so amazing, frankly we were shocked! We walked by here all the time when we come through Grand Junction staying in downtown GJ but this is the first time we actually stopped by. We stopped through GJ on way home from Moab- what a Gem!!! Found Guru on Yelp and was 100 out of Ten. The FOOD- Guru sampler, House Special Naan, two entrees- and the sauces- all simply excellent. Best meal I've had this year. Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is peaceful, and Samir is a wonderful person- offering suggestions and attentive service. So thankful to have found Guru. This has become my go-to destination for Indian cuisine--and remarkably, it keeps getting better. The food has always been flavorful and satisfying, but I used to be put off by naan that arrived slightly burnt on the bottom. That issue seems to have been resolved, as the last couple of orders were spot on. Their team is warm and courteous over the phone, and the dishes consistently deliver. Excellent first visit while visiting for son's graduation. He loved the food but as per other comments found the reception/server frosty. SERVICE 5/5 Oomish happily booked our table earlier that day and was our server and as we arrived on opening had our choice of table or booth. Chose booth, somewhat compact, it's 20° out and we love each other haha! He was all smiles, helped to advise on dishes to try and qty of food for 4. He explained delivery timing of dishes, and so switched naan out with curry, and not as bread course, etc, checked on us several times asking if we wanted more rice (no further charge btw, we just asked for a little more). Our service and food were excellent. A masked runner brought dishes out and a waitress ran our bill and got us take home boxes and bag. Service all good here on our visit! 4/5 Curries have definite spice profiles and thicker consistency and all equally dilicious. Didn't think to specify heat levels but knew that Vindaloos are spicier and it sure was! Combo had 1-2 pcs chix lamb 1 shrimp and lg pc of beef I think, $18.99. While we had enough to eat, portions are on the smaller side but the heat made a small curry go even further lol. Chicken Tikka Masala $16.99 is a mild dish, 4+ pcs chix, bit sweet, creamy tomato base and goes down a treat. Lamb Saag was also mild and delicious, about 4+ pc meat also. 4/5 Naan are thinner with very crisp bottom $4.99 Garlic a piece, very good. 5/5 Tandoori Wings $13.99 are wet and had fiery hot spots of spice coating, softer vs deep fried, stir fried with just crisp green bells and onions that were quite burny from under cooking and I love them this way. This felt like a hidden gem, which it isn't because it has such high ratings already! We stopped here for lunch after a morning hike and wow are we so glad that we did! The restaurant is right off of the Main Street in Grand Junction, easy to park and walk to. The food was delicious, the garlic naan coming with a yogurt sauce we have never been served with naan before but was delicious. Staying in GC for a family event and was excited to order take out here. First, the GOOD - the food was ready on time and the staff was very pleasant. The samosas were very tasty. Now the NOT so GOOD - every other dish we ordered was WAY TOO BLAND!! Seems like they are catering to the McDonald's crowd here. I will say that the Chicken Tikka Masala was well cooked and tender, it just literally had NO flavor. The Saag Paneer was OK. The garlic naan also had very little flavor. The Tandoori Chicken was also very bland. Spice level at this place would be appropriate for a 4-year old. We tried all of the small sauces that were given to us and NONE of them added any heat. The service is swift and the traditional dishes are served hot in copper wear. This is a hidden gem in the area but was very steady when we were there. We have the Korma chicken and the Tikka marsala chicken with garlic naan. They have a full bar and outdoor seating too! So I work in Grand Junction 14 days a month and I'll be honest I haven't had much luck with food here. It's a shame because I'm a bit of a foodie. This is the ONLY good Indian restaurant out here. I'll be honest I've never met in but it seems cute and comfortable, I'd feel perfectly happy to eat there. I always order the Masala, sometimes in the Chicken Tikka variety or the Lamb Masala, Spicy is about a 7-8/10 hot for me, medium spicy is about a 5. So if you like hot food don't be afraid to order spicy! I prefer the Lamb to the Chicken Tikka Masala, but both are good, I haven't had much more off the menu, but the garlic naan is also a must!
