Wow this place is great! We had a very large group and the service was speedy and good. I tried the cheese naan bread and it was fabulous. It's one large piece cut into four slices. You could probably split one with someone. I also ordered the tikka chicken karma with a level 5 spice and I thought that was the best of all the dishes we ordered. If you're in Grand Junction, Colorado, or planning a visit, Karma Kitchen is an absolute must! This was my first experience with Nepalese cuisine, and it completely exceeded my expectations--every bite was a revelation for my taste buds. My husband and I flew in from Hawaii to watch our son play football at CMU during Homecoming, and Karma Kitchen was the perfect choice to celebrate. Normally, I snap photos of everything I order at restaurants, but this time, the food vanished as soon as it hit the table--it was that good! Here's what we enjoyed... We kicked off with the Samosa, a crispy, golden turnover filled with seasoned potatoes, vegetables, and spices. It came with a sweet tamarind sauce and a mild chili sauce that perfectly balanced the flavors. Next up were the chicken noodles--our favorite! The noodles had a texture similar to udon but were clearly pasta, mixed with carrots, other fresh veggies, and tender shreds of roasted chicken. The Chicken Tikka Korma was a standout too, with a rich, creamy sauce that reminded me of Thai curry, thanks to the coconut milk base. I savored every bite, especially over a bed of fragrant Basmati rice. Just when I thought I couldn't eat more, the Chicken Tandoori arrived, sizzling on a cast iron platter. It was perfectly roasted, sweet, and marinated in aromatic spices, served with bell peppers, red onions, cilantro, and tomatoes. The garlic cheese naan was beyond addictive, baked in one of those traditional open ovens where the bread is seared against the wall for that perfect crispy texture. We also tried the Chili Chicken and Tadka Daal (lentil soup), and even my picky-eater son couldn't get enough. His review? "Omg, this is soooo good!" By the end, we were completely stuffed, but we made room for dessert: Mango and Pistachio Kulfi. The texture was lighter than traditional ice cream, almost like a frozen puree. The mango tasted like fresh, ripe fruit, and the pistachio kulfi, as my husband put it, was simply "mean!" (his way of saying delicious). The restaurant has an open, welcoming vibe, complete with a bar. It was buzzing with both dine-in customers and takeout orders. We even tried a Nepalese beer for the first time, and the decorative bottles were so unique that I took them home to use as vases for my garden flowers. However, I was surprised at how bland the food was at this restaurant. The chicken seemed like an old thigh that had been cooked a few days ago and was reheated and cut into small strips. I found several large piece of fat attached to the thin pieces of meat. The waitress brought me my naan, and pronounced it nann like Ann. It seemed like a pretty popular place while we were there . Very neat and clean with nice booths and tables. After perusing the extensive menu, we ordered our favorites, which included Chicken Vindaloo, Lamb Saag, Chicken Kawab, which is like Chicken Tikka, and a dish we haven't had before, Lamb Noodles, which was incredible. We added Garlic Naan and a side of their green mint sauce. The staff, which appeared to be all family, was friendly and attentive during our entire visit. I love their Saag Paneer! I eaten Indian food as much and as many different restaurants I can. India is both large geographically and population so the recipe variance in similar named dishes within India vary greatly region to region. I hear sometimes people refer to it as North and South Indian food. This place does it well but I would recommend making sure the buffet is full at all times and watch for trays that run out. This is a hoppin new place that recently opened! I was excited to come across Karma Kitchen driving back to the Front Range. Instead of the usual pizza pitstop, we had delicious, hunger satisfying, warming the soul plate(s) of happiness.
