I'd read about Guru on a bunch of must-eat donut lists in Boise, so I was very intrigued. The Eagle location had a lot of options in their display case and I settled on the Rainbow Pride Donut. It was Pride month when I went, June, but honestly, they should sell that donut year round! It was really decadent and flavorful. It was also pretty dense... but good dense. I'm not normally a vegan food fan, but they bill this one as: vegan raised ring dipped in a light blue vanilla glaze, rolled in rainbow sprinkles, and finished with clouds of marshmallow. The description and delivery matched perfectly. Super high quality in their sprinkles and the 'bows' were very sweet. A little pricey as $3.45, but definitely worth it. Best donuts you'll ever have and why I give 5 stars. Service is always abysmal but I don't care because they're that good. There is always at least three people working, yet only 1 helping customers - usually one wiping counters and one wandering around. I don't get it. Every. Time. So, be prepared to have a little wait if there's a line and to pay more than you'd expect. The coffee they serve is from Form & Function and is also fab! We usually pop in about once a month with the kids, order 3 or 4, cut them into quarters and chill on one of the big couches for a fam treat on the weekend. Went for the first time today! Service - not super friendly or inviting. Glued to their phones. Seemed like an inconvenience to the employees. Cleanliness - dirty dirty. Bathroom had poop stains and the trash was overflowing. Went upstairs and there were donut crumbs everywhere. We spent 30 min here and the employees were on their phone the whole time unless someone walked in. Donut - got the raspberry filled donut. Solid 4 stars! I would go back for the donut. This is a light and airy place with modern decor and friendly staff. But I went in at 11 a.m. and found the place dirty. There were fingerprints on the glass door and crumbs on table tops and on the floor. The black upholstery on the chairs at the back was stained with brown blotches. I could understand it if throngs of people had just left, but I'd been sitting outside in my car for a while before going in and no one had left. It was offputting. Came here on a Wednesday morning, wasn't busy at all! The gal working was really friendly and accommodating. They had a huge variety still left around 11 am which was great, and per usual their donuts didn't disappoint. We got our faves: the salt chocolate bar, the high priest, Boston creme, and some sprinkle donuts for our kiddos. The sprinkle ones are the perfect size for kids in my opinion, definitely a treat - but not massive like the ones at typical donut spots. I stopped in here on 3.12.22. Never had been before this. I was doing a Pound Fitness event with some people from my gym that day and one of them, her Birthday was that week. Prior to this, I had talked allllll kinds of shit about how disgusting cake doughnuts are and she pipes in from outta nowhere... didn't even know she was basically standing right behind me lol..she says.."HEY! I LOVE cake doughnuts!" Hahaha! That happened back in February so I figured...I'll get her some cake doughnuts for her Birthday because she likes them and as a joke. My original plan was to go to Fit 'Donuts' (Americans NEED TO STOP spelling it .. donuts ugh lol anyway!..) So yeah my plan was to go to the other place because their doughnuts, for cake doughnuts are somewhat decent, I mean if you ACTUALLY have to have a cake doughnut, go to Fit Donuts. However that place was in the opposite direction of where I was doing. So I looked at Yelp for other doughnut locations and Guru popped up. I had heard sooooo many good things about this place. So where to begin lol. I walk in, place is cute, the vibe is on point, employees are all nice and whatnot, etc. I go to the counter to order and they hardly have any kind of selection. Very limited. The prices threw me! They start at like $2.75 a piece and go up to like $3.85 a piece. I might be a little off here and there, but honestly, not by much. I lovvvvvve me some doughnuts. Every couple weeks, I'll get myself a couple and usually at DK Donuts, downtown or Pastry Perfection. It's like a cheat treat for me. I stopped at Guru and got my friend some cake doughnuts and got myself 2 "hipsterberry" doughnuts. Basically just a plain doughnut with what I think was huckleberry on top, not sure. Regardless, they were disgusting. It was like biting into a piece of paper that was trying hard to have some flavor. They were over $3 each too, I think. I got my friend 4 cake doughnuts, I think and all together it was just under $20! For DOUGHNUTS! For highly overrated doughnuts! My friend said she loved the cake doughnuts. Have you ever had a friend be like "f__k they were disgusting! But thanks anyway!" No, most likely not lol. Was she telling the truth, maybe? Probably, but if she wasn't, I wouldn't blame her if she lied hahaha! People don't have to spare my feelings and especially when it comes to the sacredness of...doughnuts haha! If they suck, straight tell me so I know next time to actually go with my original plan lol. Either way, her saying she enjoyed them, made me happy even if I low key was doubting tf out of her haha! They are cake doughnuts tho...so who knows. The ones I had "hipsterberry" perfect name for a doughnut sold at this place. This is definitely a spot that I'm sure the hipsters love. If they hate the doughnuts, they'll go just to hang out there. Who knows, maybe their coffee is good? Let's hope so. The hipsterberry ones were bland af, but they weighed a ton lol. It was like biting into a super thick piece of bread that wasn't fully baked, if that makes sense? Point is, I absolutely will not be going back. Even when my friend said she loved hers, I lied myself and was like..."oh good, glad you liked them. Place is decent" That's the best I could do because IF she was being 100% honest with me, I didn't wanna be all like PUKE! Never again! I'm sorry I didn't get you the Fit Donuts! Hahaha! I know my opinion on this place would probably be filed in the "unpopular opinion" folder, but I know there are some out there that definitely agree. Next time, if I can't make it to Fit, DK, or anywhere else, I'll just get a gift to them the next time I see them because you couldn't pay me to go back here. Finally made it in to Eagles Guru. I think this location is nicer than Boises. I like the upstairs area and that there is seating downstairs. I feel like Boise is pretty slow but this one moved faster for us. My daughter loves their healthy homer donut. I tried their humongous peppermint chocolate donut which is a December special. I loved it but my husband wasn't a fan. My husband has picked up donuts here for Mother's Day and he has mentioned he likes this location better as well. read more

i tried four different donuts. The maple bar was tough and dry with no taste of maple. The raspberry filled donut was tough but the raspberry was flavorful. The glazed and berry glazed were not good. Now that the movie theater is open again, I stopped in before my show and grabbed a couple to share with my family I was meeting. They hadn't had them. They loved them as much as I do. I'm a sucker for anything Alice in Wonderland, hence ordering this delicious donut with sprinkles on top of vanilla frosting. It was magical. We followed the Alice with the Rocky Road. I need to begin this review with a huge THANK YOU to our wondeful community manager Michelle for these fantastic donuts l, and what an honor it is to be named Reviewer of the Year! Okay so, earlier in the year I hit Guru (the DT location) hard in the gut. Each visit after the other was worst. And while I still can't provide a 5 star review I can gladly say this experience wasn't bad at all. Michelle was so sweet, and let me pick out which donuts I wanted. I love seasonal, limited edition items, so I chose Peppermint Hot Chocolate (raised ring topped with chocolate, crushed peppermint bits, and homemade marshmallows by Creekside Mallow Co), Eggnog Cheesecake (bismark covered in graham cracker crumbles, dusted nutmeg, house made cheesecake eggnog filling), and an old fashioned Boston Cream. Right off the bat, A+ for dispaly. These donuts are so pretty! I have to give Guru praise for always excelling in beautiful presentation. I LOVE cream filled donuts so right away I ate the Eggnog Cheesecake. Guru's Instagram states that it is "stuffed to the brim with filling," however I find that misleading. There wasn't much filling - the picture included is a couple bits in. I didn't find any filling until halfway done. Nonetheless it was SO. EFFING. GOOD. If there is any donut I'd return to Guru for, this is it. As the for Peppermint Choc, I saved that one to accompany my morning coffee the next day. It stayed surprisingly fresh and tasted fantastic. I didn't get to try the Boston Cream because while I was busy at a photo shoot with the limited edition guys, he was chowing it down. *glares at him with malicious intent burning inside* All around, I am so happy I can finally say I had a good experience with Boise's most famous donut stop. If I would have been asked to rate a year ago...4 stars. As of late, 2 stars. We go in on Saturdays regularly around 10am after kids activities. The donut selection has an incredibly minimal as of late. It's as if we coming in 30 mins til closing. The service has been below par as well. Both employees usually sitting on the counter on their phones and acting annoyed to wait on customers. And lastly the bathrooms and tables are usually destroyed and dirty. Everything that I listed has not been just one recent visit. It has been the past 8 to 10 visits. We finally told our kids enough and I've picked a new donut place to go to on Saturdays. read more

Been eating Guru donuts for many years and was kind of glad I had to drive downtown to get them since that meant I wouldn't eat them every day. Then they opened a location in Eagle.... Doh!!! Love their vegan options. The Hipsterberry is legendary and the Alice in Wonderland is also a favorite. They also change their menu regularly to bring out different seasonal donuts. I haven't read the other reviews to see what people are complaining about, but Guru is a long-time favorite of mine and I love the new location. Yeah, they're more expensive than Winco donuts but they're at a while different level. read more

The gluten free donuts are to die for. I had a maple and a Girl Scout one. I would rate them as a 5 star. However, two young people were serving. As soon as nobody was buying a donut they went automatically back to their phone and computer to play games. One even sat upon the counter to do this. The place was very dirty. Tables, floor, chairs, self serve counter full of crumbs and straw papers. This I would give a 2 star. I then went to the bathroom. Both toilets had dried diarrhea up the back of the basin clear to the top. The back of the toilet and the top were covered in hair and dust. These have probably not been cleaned in weeks. My 3 year old granddaughter would not sit in the toilet. Floor and sink were not any better. I would rate this as zero stars. Been here twice. Love the incredible tasting and unique flavored donuts. I can't tell the difference between the "normal" donuts and the vegan or gluten free (seriously). Love the view of the water. Love the employees! The people who work here are so kind and happy. This place sends my two year old to her happy place. A "healthy homer" donut, a bottle of water, and duck-viewing from the window makes her dance and sing. You can't come here and have a bad day. We stopped on Tuesday for a donut in the afternoon. The donuts seemed cakey and didn't taste like fried donuts normally do . they were too solid. Two donuts for six dollars was expensive especially for one that didn't taste like it had any taste., the maple bar . We pre-ordered for pickup today, and the process was so slick! Because it's opening weekend, there was quite a line, and I was grateful to be able to skip it. The inside of the shop is darling--light and airy and the seating area looked cozy! The donuts, as always, were the best in town. I'd heard a lot of great things about Guru donuts so I wanted to give it a try now that there's a location in Eagle. Presentation wise- they look cute! The donut shop looks nice and clean and the donuts are all presented well. Taste- I have never been so disappointed in a donut. They had the density of bagels that had been frosted and disguised as a donut. I tried both cake donuts and fried donuts and was disappointed with both. I think the yeast donuts should be much airier and softer. Price- I feel like I got scammed. I wanted to get the classic half dozen which was about 13 dollars. The lady behind the counter kept mentioning that she didn't have enough for that but I could just pick out individual donuts for my box. My total was 19 dollars... when the specialty half dozen is only about 16-17. I asked her why and she said it's because 2 of the donuts I picked were specialty donuts. Somehow I ended up paying more than that. All in all, I'm not sure if it was a bad batch but I would advise against going in again. NOT GLUTEN FREE! NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY! Online and in-store all claim gluten free doughnuts are gluten free, yet they fry ALL doughnuts in communal oil.. that's not gluten free. Employees then claim it's all "gluten-friendly".. which isn't even a thing. That's like saying you make it with all gluten free ingredients EXCEPT the flour, and still call it gluten free. Gluten-friendly is the lamest, laziest excuse to be dangerous with other's health. Also pretty positive this method of sharing cooking oil voids any claim of vegan friendly.. but don't worry, the staff will tell you differently depending on who you ask/is working that day. They say they can't afford a separate dedicated gluten free section because "they are a small mom and pop", which I understand. But that doesn't give them the right to falsely advertise catering to dietary and health restrictions they clearly don't have any intention of upholding. Also they said they wouldn't be changing any signage. So, no mention of "gluten friendly".. just giant signs that read "gluten free", which again, they are not. read more

I don't write negative reviews but I'm sad because we had heard great things about this place. My mom is a donut connoisseur and had to try them while she was in town. She got a dozen with a bunch of different types. All the dough-based donuts (ie not the cake donuts) were so dense, underdone, and had a strange chemical-taste. I'm sure it was just a bad batch but that was $30 down the drain. We threw them away because we had a chemical aftertaste after tasting a couple of them.
