Guru has different donut styles and flavors with vegan, GF, and "regular" options (no vegan AND GF though). I thought it was cool that they make fried GF donuts (not from Boise so I don't know what the situation is here, but every donut shop I've visited elsewhere with GF options only had baked). I tried a GF hipsterberry donut (fried donut with lavender huckleberry glaze). I really liked the texture - maybe fluffy isn't the right word exactly, but it had a consistency very similar to non-GF cake donuts with just a slightly different feel. Not dense but not too airy either. The name is kind of silly but the glaze was really delicious! Great atmosphere in an interesting building with lots of seating and good music. The person working was very friendly. It was a very enjoyable quick morning snack stop.

Seriously good donuts located in the historic Ivanha Hotel building. Lots and lots on options for donuts, and if you are vegan, no problem. There are lots of vegan choices thanks to the potato flour used for the donuts. We got the Hipsterberry. It was huge and perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The best way to go for breakfast is the Guru box. You get to choose a breakfast item, any donuts and a coffee for $11. The coffe is house drip but awesome and you can get a refill for a buck. We got the Southwest Breakfast Burrito and it was delicious. I love the chill vibe here and the relaxing music in the background not being blasted so that you can have a conversation. I love the artwork on the walks and the friendly staff. I even recommended them to my friends and they showed up an hour later. Definitely a must do donut stop if you love donuts like I do.
Visiting some family in town and they brought us to Guru Donuts because it's one of their favorite spots and I can definitely see why! I love all the vegan and gluten free options and they seem to be very allergen-friendly. The donuts were all delicious, I tried bites of the old fashioned and the coffee cake crumble and they were both amazing. I ordered the avocado toast, and it may look simple but the flavors were surprisingly complex. The addition of the garlic oil with the shaved Parmesan made the toast so flavorful and I know this is going to have me craving this all the time! There's plenty of comfort seating to pick from with lots of open space and extremely tasteful decor that makes for a fun, cozy atmosphere.
Delicious donuts! They had a wide variety of vegan donuts to choose from! I got 1 to eat in the shop with hot tea, took 2 for later. Comfortable seating area! Staff was helpful in choosing what to get!
Yum! Guru is a downtown Boise staple! I've been going since they were located on Capitol Street. Their new location in the Idanha bon Main Street is more spacious. My go to is the hipsterberry. My husband loves the Boston cream pie. The donuts always have incredible texture and flavor! Of note, they avoid artificial ingredients. Looks like they've changed ownership a few times, but thankfully I haven't noticed a difference in quality. Currently, their hours are 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 4 PM on weekends
If you want fancy expensive donuts this is the place. Very cool building in downtown Boise with artistic interior.
Been here a few years back, I noticed the inside changed a bit as well as the menu. Still pretty good, I had the Alice in wonderland donut and a sandwich. Service was amazing, it was our friends birthdays and they let us bring balloons and gifts inside for her! She loved it!!! The vibe is chill, casual and quaint!
Came looking for a really good donut and found a fantastic treat. I got the hot mess donut, powder covered raspberry donut that was so good, I bought one for now and one for the plane ride home. Thank you Guru donuts for making my day.
Really wish I could give 2.5 stars, because I have some Jekyll and Hyde feeling on Guru. The good. If you have allergies. There is no better place for donuts. I appreciate their efforts here and I suspect it's a top reason many choose to come here. Additionally, the staff is willing to ensure cross contamination is not an issue via new gloves, new sheet, clean boxes, etc. And the donuts themselves are very good. This place is really good for those that want a donut without risking anaphylactic issues. The bad. Starting with "to go" donuts, they stack the donuts. I acknowledge there is no way to ensure donuts don't touch (and this is not about the allergies, they will definitely put those in separate boxes), but some of their donuts have juicy or otherwise easily transferred toppings. Although delicious, especially if you like that flavor, they become inedible if you don't. Another inconvenience is the bathroom. It's not in the restaurant, rather, it is down some stairs, down a hall, and you must remember to get the key (not the most welcoming walk). Finally, parking. It's not great. There's paid parking in a few areas, but not always convenient. In the end, Guru is solid, and I would recommend it. But I'd also recommend targeting your visit when you are on foot in town, when you have time to eat there, and preferably find a restroom in advance.
Guru donuts is always consistent. Always fresh in the morning with lots of choices. The breakfast burrito is delicious. Ordered avocado toast for takeout, and they gave me a breakfast sandwich instead. Didn't realize it till I got home. Was delish though.

There is complementary water with cups to have with your doughnuts. A cool mural sits on the wall, there are seats to look out on the street and plenty of room for a crowd. The unassuming building on Main Street houses a business who's motto is " both food & life should be fun." Eating donuts here at Guru is fun experience. They open at 7 on weekdays and 8 on weekends. I tell you this because I didn't give it much thought till I arrived 2pm and donuts were scarce. For the best choice in doughnuts go early! Regardless, lucky me , my fav Boston Crème were still available. This donut was ooey gooey and had the perfect chocolate topping. The filling is the best Boston Creme filling I have had anywhere! We also tried the cup of donut holes that are the essential and tasty on the go treat. So good, light & fluffy. Another good one is the High Priest. A bacon topped glazed donut that not only looks good but is tasty. That bacon trend was from years back but the salty and sweet still works so well. Of course there is coffee. The day was too hot for that for me. There were breakfast type things to eat but it was afternoon. So, for us it was The donuts! Just go here!
I was just here on the 4th to grab some goodies for my husband. They had a fritter of the day Saturday and it was cherry. Now that it's Monday, I decided to head into Guru to grab an a fritter of the day. New week new flavor of fritter. The gentleman that helped me today was super nice! I asked him what the fruit flavor of the fritter was and I was told it's cherry again. I told him that I wanted to grab the fritter on Saturday till I found out it was cherry as well. That's when I was told it's more like flavor of the month vs. week. I'm determined to grab a fritter that my husband will like so we will just have to wait till August. We have tried fritters from every shop imaginable so I'm determined to try one from here. But today I grabbed another Hipsterberry, a seasalt chocolate glazed bar and a cereal of the day. I didn't get a chance to eat the Hipsterberry on Saturday so I will have some today! You can't go wrong with a classic chocolate bar with seasalt and a cinnamon toast crunch topped donut. All 3 donuts were killer good today! Fresh, soft and so flavorful! It's hard not to get one of every donut from this joint. They all look so good! My husband and I got to start our week off with some great treats from Guru. Looking forward to coming back and trying a different round of donuts. If you want to check out Guru Donuts, I'd suggest going early in the day. I made the mistake of going after lunch for a sweet treat, so the selection was very limited. Despite this, I was able to find one that looked pretty good, so I tried the Alice in Wonderland. Most of Guru's donuts are made with potato flour instead of wheat flour, with the exception being the cake donuts. Within the potato flour group, they offer raised or vegan. The difference being the toppings -- the vegan ones have toppings that are, well, vegan. They also have a handful of gluten free donuts. My donut was pretty good, but I wish they would've offered to heat it up just for a few seconds, especially since I ate it in-house. The inside is pretty spacious with some interesting art. In addition to donuts, they offer avocado toast, two types of burritos and a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Overall, worth checking out especially if you're undecided between trying the donuts or more traditional breakfast items. read more
Decent place in downtown Boise. Love the vibe! I don't really eat doughnuts very often, but when I do, it's almost always an Old-fashioned doughnut. This is what I use as a comparison to other doughnuts. It's my baseline. This one was good, but not at the top. The outer crust was good, and the icing was the perfect amount of sweetness. The interior was just right. We also grabbed a cup of doughnut holes, which is where we struggled. They were overly sweet and fairly dry on the inside. We ended up throwing the rest out, unfortunately. My other baseline is an Apple Fritter, so if I give them a second chance, that will be my next choice! read more

I ordered The Sandwich which includes bacon, eggs, white cheddar, onions, and more. The decor is modern and hip. The two workers were the sweetest. The sandwich was $10, seemed like a great deal to me, also seemed to be fresh. There is also a vegan option. I have the menu pictured in one of my photos. I have very recently been hired to be a tour guide for a walking ghost tour in downtown Boise and I was just walking my route before I actually begin taking groups of people to the locations on my tour... the Idanha apartment building is one of the stops and located inside the building is Guru donuts. I had never tried them before and wanted to give them a try after seeing an appealing menu. Service was great - and fast! I had the hipsterberry donut which has a glaze made with blackberries, blueberries and lavender- OMG so freakin' tasty! I also got a small Italian soda with coconut and lavender flavors which was also pretty good! I noticed on their menu board that they also have avocado toasts and I think I'll need to try that, one of their coffee drinks and a vanilla coconut mini donut next ! I will definitely recommend them to friends and to those future friends attending my tours ! read more

Stopped in this morning. Had the healthy Homer, potato based donut. It was tasty, moist, and filling. Also had the maple bacon. Very good. Clean space, has a hipster vibe, staff was friendly. read more
Delicious donuts and tasty breakfast sandwiches. Great spot downtown Boise with excellent service. We tried the donuts which were delicious. The signature sandwich was made with eggs vegetables grilled onions and a tasty soft fabulous bread. Loved the whole experience. read more

I'm at Guru donut shop in downtown. So far, I've eaten a creamy buttery scrambled egg, avocado, and caramelized onions, on their homemade brioche, then for dessert I had their Boston cream donut. This is a dangerous place to be when when you've already had breakfast at home. read more

We stopped by for donuts for my little sister and her friends and got one of each donut for them to try. When we walked out we realized the box is covered in gooey-ness. Not very fun to try to carry around and not very sanitary. The staff was quick and the building looked clean from what I saw. read more
Some of the worst donuts I have ever had, full stop. Guru Donuts is a modern donut shop offering vegan and gluten free options, and inventive flavors along with the classics. The donuts are a brioche style, but so overproofed that their texture is similar to a dry dinner roll. 7 donuts and a latte with oat milk set me back just under $30. Unfortunately, the only donut that was even edible was the Old Fashioned, which was tiny and overly oily. The others were dense and bready, and their icings fully crumbled off upon biting into. The ingredients seem to be good quality, but Guru desperately needs to work on their recipes. Two stars because my latte was excellent. Come here for coffee only. read more

There seems to be a lot of hype around these donuts. Visiting Idaho for the first time, my friend and I decided to stop by and give it a try. After looking at the reviews and what they had, we chose the hipsterberry and key lime pie. The dough for both of them was so soft, and the flavors were great! Not too sweet and the donuts themselves were also massive. The interior of the store is also super cool looking, so I'd recommend checking this place out! read more

Trendy place. I was REALLY excited when I randomly found this shop while walking around looking for breakfast places. The donuts are on the larger side of the scale. I bought a chocolate cake donut (Guru Chocolate) and a glazed donut (aka The O.G.). I was a little disappointed with the chocolate cake donut, but wonderfully surprised at how great the glazed donut tasted! I believe the glazed donut has flaxseeds in it and they are yeast-raised, vegan!!! How awesome is that! They also offer other fun and seasonal flavors. On my second visit, I had the pumpkin swirl and the OG again. I would imagine this would be a great place to brings your children. read more
