Love love love this place! The maple bar is banging, - the icing is just the right amount of sweet and the donut itself has a little crunch!!! Also, I didn't know much about the buttermilk bar before DK, but now I crave them! I'm definitely more of a yeast donut person than a cake donut person, but the blueberry cake donut is also a home run. I would recommend this little shop to anyone. This was donut treat day and our first time trying DK. I got there just after opening for the best selection and anticipating some good cinnamon rolls, everyone's fave. There were no cinnamon rolls ... weren't even started and the baker wouldn't say when they might be available. The apple fritters were crispy and good but lacked any discernible apples. I got the end of a glazed twist that wasn't glazed. DK's doesn't merit a return visit. I'm still on a quest to find the best cinnamon roll in town. read more

Great find. Donuts are delicious. For lack of a better term the shop looks a bit run down, but they crush their donuts. Small parking lot makes it an easy and quick stop. Went in during the Covid-19 June 2020 time. Main door is entrance only, side door is exit only. Plexi up at the counter to protect everyone. The tables have all been removed and everything is to go only. Large selection of donuts. Everything my little mind could think of. Several specialty items fritters, bear claws, bacon bar, muffins, danish. Coffee of course. Most of the "basic donuts" are about $1 each, $9.99 / dozen. The fancy ones were around $1.60. Yall don't understand how much I love blueberry jelly doughnuts lol. This was a good doughnut. That's it. Country doughnuts down on 5 mile and Overland....HANDS DOWN...best Blueberry jelly doughnuts and honestly, the best doughnuts I've had in Boise. Pastry Perfection is a close second. I stopped in to this place during a long layover from the greyhound - it was the closest place I could find. As such, you could probably do worse - the donuts are decent enough, at about the same price you'll pay at the grocery store. The dough was actually decent under the icing, but there was something a bit off in the icing that made my stomach uneasy pretty quickly. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way for these over any other place that offers fried dough rings. What I will say is DON'T LOOK IN THE BATHROOMS. They are absolutely disgusting. There's a door, and behind that door you can go MAN or WOMAN, and both choices are pretty repulsive. I posted a photo of the inside of the men's room door, and in case it wasn't clear, it is covered in greasy dirt and dark-colored splatters that also covered literally all four walls of the bathroom. The floor was also gross. Here's the thing - any owner or manager that completely ignores the basic sanitary conditions of their bathroom is probably not mindful of sanitation in the rest of their operation. The people behind the counter may be helpful and nice, but when the only bathroom in the place is simply disgusting, it speaks volumes of their commitment to customers. At the very least, the neglect is obvious behind closed doors...what happens in the kitchen that you can't see? read more

Super light and airy. I don't recommend going too late in the morning to get donuts, or else there won't be any left. I ordered approximately a dozen assorted donuts through UberEats. They followed directions perfectly as to specific flavors and every donut tasted fresh and delicious. I do wish they had white cream filled donuts. Currently, they only do Bavarian Cream. Overall, I was very pleased with the prices and the quality of the donuts. read more

DK Donuts reminds me a whole lot of the donut shop I grew up going to with my dad. I think for that reason, I extra-love this place, it brings up a nostalgic feeling of my childhood. Atmosphere: Nothing special. Not the kind of atmosphere that wins you over and leaves you "oooing and ahhhhing". For the most part, this is just one of those places that you run in, pick up what you came for and jet out. I don't think I've ever spent more than 3 minutes at a time in here. Donuts: Delish! They sell out on the weekends pretty quickly, so if you're coming for something specific it is better to get here earlier rather than later. My personal favorites are their maple bar, cinnamon twist and old fashion with pink (I think it's strawberry) frosting and sprinkles. Price: In the same way that I don't think I've ever spent more than 3 minutes at a time in here, I don't think I've ever spent more than $3 at a time here. As with most donut places, DK's prices are very cheap. A trip here could be easily funded by your spare pocket change. read more

DK Donuts is your typical old school divey donut shop. There are typically crumbs on the tables and the dining chairs are almost inevitably askew. The windows and doors are usually a bit smudged. And, still? I'm a fan. Because? Donuts. Their buttermilk bar, while not the largest in town, is always perfectly rendered with just the right amount dense buttermilk-y fabulousness. Their chocolate cake donuts are dynamite. They have maple bacon bars on occasion for the sweet/salty fans among you. And, while, the dining room disarray may coax most out the door with their donuts boxed. Nothing brings back the college years like brushing crumbs off a table and chair with a napkin, hunkering down while wearing a bleary eyed expression and comfy sweatpants for a donut and a bottle of ice-cold chocolate milk (definitely chocolate milk and not coffee, which tastes little better than gas station joe). The last time I was there it was 10pm, and as I drove down State street with friends, someone shouted, "The open sign at DK!!! It's winking at me! Stop! Donuts! We must!!" They rep the California-style donut hard here. If you're into that sort of thing, and who isn't, I'd recommend these dudes (or DK's much improved Meridian outpost) over Nampa's similar Daylight Donuts. The maple bacon bar hogs all the hype, and it's totally justified, but DK's greatest achievement in donut engineering is actually their old-fashioned crueller. All their cake donuts delight me, but that crueller represents everything that makes California donuts great. Not only is it submerged in hot grease long enough for a perfectly crisped exterior to form, it's also smothered with enough saucy, butter-loaded glaze that the top few layers of the pastry get thoroughly soaked. My very first apartment in Boise was two blocks from this establishment, and the smell of freshly cooked donuts would waft in my window each morning beckoning me to venture over to DK donuts. That was 12 years ago. Over the last year I have had nothing but negative after negative experiences here. The particular doughnut (the maple twist) I had grown fond of is never ready in the morning. They open at 4 AM and today at 7 AM they still didn't have all of their donuts prepared. The owners are EXTREMELY CHEAP and the lobby is DISGUSTING. Nothing is made from scratch and they sell day old donuts first thing in the morning. Mind you it's a Saturday morning and this is downtown Boise. Downtown is bustling on a Saturday morning (with the markets and eateries and you would think they would have a full selection. Nope, and this is probably the third or fourth time in the last month this is been the case. And if you've ever had any interaction with their limited English speaking staff, they could care less. So I'll be going to Guru donuts now. Last Saturday I came in to purchase a few donuts for my partner and I. Because the total was less than four dollars the rude old lady would not take my card and insisted on cash. I don't carry cash so I left. I don't care if they are a mom-and-pop shop, turn away business and you're going under. After today I will not be returning, they are cheap, not friendly at all, and it's just not worth it.
