Fortunately, there was no traffic so it was a 20 min drive easily. However, a lot seemed to have changed from about a year ago? We got popcorn chicken which was $9 for a very tiny plate (like the medium size sampler food container you get at food tasting events) which is a joke of a portion, and the chicken was not even good quality - heavy on the batter. Compared to pictures a year ago, where the portions looked much much larger. They are so stingy on the amount of chicken, that I thought they were giving us a sample to try before they make a real batch lmaooooo. I tried the Kocochi milk tea with creme brulee, boba, jelly, etc. Sounds good on paper, inflation I get it, was expecting $7 but it was $8, plus tax, so it is actually not that competitive of a price anymore now that I think about it. I could get a very good quality boba drink for $7.50+tax elsewhere without all the fancy toppings, but with boba included. I was pretty disappointed with the quality. The boba is so overcooked that it is mushy, and the creme brulee was not thick enough that I have to use a spoon to even be able to get any of it out (instead of being able to drink it from the other side which is what it is supposed to be). I'd avoid this place unless this is a one off but I will need to be redeemed a better experience before recommending this place. There are better options in the area

In long This is part of my new regular tour of Edmonds coffee spots since I'm down here a time or two a week these days. Ladro has lots of fans and it's easy to see why, even if the smaller mom-and-pop places get higher rates around here. Ladro deserves credit for doing everything right. This is an older strip mall, probably built around the time that phrase was coined. Wide variety of businesses, wonky shapes and angles in the parking lot. Inside, there's the big coffee bar on one side, and tables and chairs over there. They have some merch for sale, including plenty of choices among their own house-roasted beans. Lots of blends, and even a few interesting-looking single-origin bags, too. Not any cheaper than the big premium roasters charge. I'd have to try some of the beans before I could say if that seems justified, but I bet it might be. You can order ahead, but not only did I choose to order manually, I went inside and looked the poor kids in the eye. They all seemed to enjoy each others' company, and their nice work environment translates into a nice ambiance for relaxing with a cup. I ordered chai lattes to go, and they were boiling hot and tasted like they were from a tea bag (not the sugar-bomb concentrate that some places use). I also had a brown butter scone that was great even at room temp. They didn't get overly chatty making the drinks, but they were definitely friendly, and everything was ready quickly. Nice kid clocking off for the day even held the door for me as we went out, given that my hands were full. Honestly, if you didn't know this was a chain (albeit a small, local one), you'd think this place existed simply to caffeinate locals in the neighborhood. Everything about it has that nice neighborly, next-door vibe. They don't have anything quirky about them, really, and that huge pastry case is definitely not filled by on-site bakeries at every location. But it all still FEELS like a friendly spot down the street from home. 2 coffees and a scone were about $20 before tip. Could be better, could be worse. I'd definitely come back.

The menu has classy options and is rather understated, which is a relief. [I positively despise the Cheesecake Factory model of long menu of items with small variations on the same boring narrow band of ingredients -- which taste roughly all the same...marketing to a customer base with limited palates is all kinds of unappetizing!] Here, in addition to more reasonable portion sizes than the Cheesecake Factory, the menu choices are delectable and artful. Each crumpet topping or combination demonstrates care and good cultural taste. I had the savory pesto, ricotta, and tomato...it was adroitly put together on a plate. I wolfed it down at the outdoor seating patio with my fingers. An off-the-street enclave of restaurants, pubs, and ice-cream shops is a nice setting -- albeit a bit too concrete and too hot in summer. I will be returning to this open-kitchen, informal, tea and crumpets shop for more of their menu...

Street parking only, but if you're open to a walk, downtown Edmonds tends to have ample parking around the area. When busy, they do provide a buzzer that has a short range, but opens up the opportunity of walking around slightly. Items can be a bit pricey, but they're also very filling. Large space, lots of chatter, and friendly service. Number Three Combo Club - we wanted waffles this time but also bacon and sausage. This was the variety pack we desired, though wish it came with both sausage and bacon! Opted for the bacon and it was thick, fatty, and delicious. One waffle cut into the four quadrants, ready to soak up syrup. Simple, but a classic. Chunky Monkey Pancakes - goofy perhaps, but another timeless classic combo of chocolate and bananas. Three chocolate chip pancakes, fluffy and ready to absorb the Nutella drizzle. Could have a few more chocolate chips embedded for a more balanced spread, but the chocolate drizzle helps spread flavor. Bananas for the healthy balance of course.

That said, we waited nearly an hour for a table for our party of six. They sat us in a booth, clearly designed for 4. A large metal bar sits on the edge of the booth just under the fabric, but there isn't a way to avoid sitting on it when crammed in. OK, it's very uncomfortable, but so be it. The check comes, the (excellent) server graciously separates the bill for us which I appreciate. She added a 20% gratuity which I understand for large parties. However, I did some basic math and recognized they add the tip amount and then charge tax on the bill plus the tip. I pointed this out to the server but she was clearly too busy to do anything about it. While for our table, it's not a ton of money, over time and who knows how many tables, this is, in my opinion a massive and unacceptable mistake.

This Drumlin update is essentially transitional, jumping from Nov 2022 to Feb 2025 to July 2025…read more(7/20/25). I enjoy stopping by Shoreline's Ridgecrest neighborhood, because of the Crest theater, Ridgecrest Books, Cafe Aroma, and Drumlin. Drumlin is the sister restaurant to the adjacent Ridgecrest Pub which often hosts a wide variety of food trucks. I like how Ridgecrest overall has created a pleasant sense of community. Drumlin first came onto my radar screen because I heard about an Escoffier trained pastry chef working there from another Yelp Elite. I tried a few times to stop by, but the popular baked goods were always sold out. But I did end up having a tasty lunch which I wrote up in my previous review from 11/13/22. This pastry chef has since then moved on. Drumlin then returned onto my radar screen because I heard of about a revamp of their beverage and culinary program. I was able to spontaneously stop by, snag a two top and really enjoyed my first 2025 visit back on February 19th. I savored my spinach salad, casio e pepe risotto, and Running Up That Hill cocktail. It was a bit spendy since I had just started a new job. However, I appreciated the quality and its location close to home. It was nice to see positive write ups in Seattle Magazine and The Stranger, giving positive props to this Shoreline destination. Then I heard that Drumlin went into full cafe mode with daily business hours 7am to 1pm. Menu focuses on beverages, baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches/wraps for the time being. Interesting pivot, but not fully using their awesome multi-purpose space. They have outdoor seating, a full bar, a stage, many two tops against a banquette, street parking, and a dedicated private parking lot. Oh well, I'm sure there is a story behind that and why dinner service has been suspended. Anyways, subsequent visits happened all within a week on July 12th, 13th, and 20th. The first two visits were around 11 am, today's visit was at 745 am. The visits were all onsite for one hour, 90 minutes, and five hours, respectively. Absolutely chill vibe being onsite. Often the challenge visiting indie cafes, there's never enough seating, too crowded, the sea of laptops, ad naseum. I enjoy seeing solos, pairs, groups, and families stopping in whether to stay awhile or as takeout. I've enjoyed collectively to date: 3 - 16oz iced mochas, 1 chocolate chip cookie, one peach gingerbread cake slice, and two Morning Glory muffins. Today's muffin was especially awesome, still warm from the oven, love the overall moist crumb, and especially the pepitas for texture. This going to be a hard situation because I enjoy Cafe Aroma located diagonal from Drumlin, but I definitely favor the fresh onsite scratch pastries here. There's also some featured baked goods from Kaffeeklatch, located in Seattle's Lake City neighborhood. I've contributed two posts and 40 photos over five visits. Hopefully this provided a comprehensive view of my experience at Drumlin. I've been a Shoreline resident for over 23 years, I'm always rooting for hometown businesses to succeed as they evolve, remain vibrant, and viable.

Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #73…read more You'd think it would be a prime spot for more competition, but Oasis Tea Zone is the only boba shop in downtown Edmonds. I was initially hesitant on visiting since based on their menu, they seem like a first wave type of boba shop that mainly uses powders and syrups. After seeing that they have $3 drinks during Happy Hour from 2-4 PM on weekdays, however, I decided to give them a chance. Royal Milk Tea, 50% Sweet, 50% Ice ($3) - The milk tea has decent black tea flavor, albeit a bit generic, the sweetness at half is right on the dot for a typical half sweetened drink, and half ice isn't too much. The drink is on the powdery side, which leaves a kind of residue that coats the mouth after each sip. I'm wondering if they use perhaps powdered tea in their drinks? Still, there aren't any offensive tastes in the drink, which made it better than expected. The boba is surprisingly good. The pearls are smooth spheres and exhibit both very good chew and bounce, but don't seem to be soaked that much in syrup. They are perhaps a bit firmer than perfect, but are pleasant to chew on. The amount of boba they serve in a cup isn't enough for the entire drink - with about a quarter of the drink left, the boba was all gone. While the drink has some issues, the value for $3 really can't be beat. I think this is the cheapest boba I've gotten in the US ever. Milk Tea Rating: 3/5 Boba Rating: 4.5/5 I walked into Oasis Tea Zone with apprehension, but came out very pleasantly surprised. I would stop by again, happy hour or otherwise, whenever I visit downtown Edmonds. Note: Oasis Tea Zone charges a 3% fee for credit cards Edit: I visited again, ordering the same drink. This time, the drink seems to be more heavily leaning towards the creamer, leaving the taste of the tea in the dust. In addition, there's a bit of a strange coffee-ish taste and the boba is much more firm than previous. This is more of a 3* drink rather than 4*. Still leaving the review as a 4, but it seems there might be consistency issues. Then again, the drink is only $3 before tax/tip, a value that can't be beaten.
