We had a group of 14 so we ended up doing the $75 price fixed menu. This menu was 3 courses including an appetizer, entree, and then a shared dessert plate. Was so looking forward to this when I visited Montreal but this place was a complete and utter shtshow. The backwaiters kept bringing cutlery, glasses, and dishes to our table we didn't need. The waitress would then come and be confused and pick them up. It happened over and over again, totally astounding levels of non-cohesiveness between front and back of house. The food was mid. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too disappointing to ignore. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. What made it baffling was the shockingly rude management. The food was overly salty and barely edible, and when we politely wrote our concerns to management after our visit, the manager responded with clear irritation and zero professionalism. Instead of addressing the issue, they were hostile and aggressive, making us feel like we were the problem. Between the bad attitude and the bad food, there's absolutely no reason to go back. Avoid this place if you value decent service--or a meal you can actually eat. Customer service seems like an afterthought here. Definitely won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who values respect or quality. Poor quality food, poor customer service, and trash management. Just enough attention without the server being too intrusive. The atmosphere was great, a kind of Chelsea loft / hipster modern vibe. Ordered the ribeye (15oz) which came with a N'duja butter side for added flavor that was not at all necessary. The steak was cooked and seared to perfection, and was a good cut of beef. This aspect they clearly know what they are doing. Accompanied by some red wine, which was also good. On a recent trip to Montreal we decided to try Grinder based on great reviews and we were absolutely not disappointed. We called for a reservation (which is recommended) and were able to sit at the bar at the time we wanted. The bar is super comfortable and spacious and we loved the service. Bartenders were so nice and took great care of us. We ordered the surf and turf for two with a NY strip, lobster tail, shrimp, and scallops. We also had the delicious french fries and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, as ordered, and the seafood was incredible. The lobster tail literally melted in my mouth! The restaurant has an extensive and good wine list and a full bar. We had a bottle of Chianti to share. It was a perfect date night in Montreal and we are so glad we decided to splurge. Was in the mood for a great steak. Located on the heart of the city. Street parking was very hard to find but they have valet parking if needed. There is also public transport available. Reservations are must as the place is usually very busy I ordered the in steak with mushrooms and rappini. The rib steak is my favorite cut and asked to have it done to medium. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Can taste the char on the steak. The mushrooms were seasoned very nice and came out hot and was a nice add on to the steak. The downside was the rappini as it was cold and had no seasoning. We had to send back the rappini and we did not want it back. During this pandemic, they take proper precautions with their protective personal equipments. They clean your tables between your plate services. Beside their service, their food are delicious. I shared half dozen oysters, roasted eggplants (drizzled with yogurt and sliced almonds) and Mediterranean salad with a gin and tonic cocktail. Each item were beautifully presented and they tasted very good except our Mediterranean salad was super soaked in the oregano salad dressing. It was highly oily and super acidic. As seen in previous review , I had gone to their sister restaurant, Makro, maybe 2 weeks prior to going to Grinder and let me tell you , the expression " I'll see you on the flipside" really applies here. Context : we were 8 girls ( originally 10 but two came only at the end ), for a double birthday dinner for myself and my best friend . Our reservation was fairly late since it was the last table for a large group that was to be seated at 9pm...but only got seated at 9:50. Myself and the other birthday girl got there ahead of time to make sure we claim our table but kept getting told that it will be 10 mins but it ended up being 50 which was fine since the hostess was super nice but we were at the bar for that time and was not acknowledged by the bartenders at all ( that's red flag ). We finally get seated and got our shots ready for everyone. The cocktail menu was small but good. I took the orange and gin one and would recommend. Appetizers : we had gotten some oysters and calamari. The calamari was mediocre for the price and the oysters were delicious ( we should have gotten more tbh). For the mains , we got them at 11:30 which was super long considering barely anything was coming out of the kitchen at that time . Also we were still hungry and when we asked if we can all have just the sides to the mains to eat at least ; the waiter looked at us as if we were strange ; but trust me , you wouldn't want to argue with 8 hangry girls .I will list the mains and say what the person who ordered said about it. Salmon tartare : good but super simple and wasn't enough of a kick for the jalapeño Grilled organic half chicken: the chicken was delicious , perfect amount of seasoning , well cooked but didn't look like half a chicken but it was good enough for her to bring for leftovers at work the next day. Vegan Meatballs (x2): they were both really disappointed with the portion size for the price ( 4 meatballs), and they didn't have a proper vegan meatball consistency since they broke apart easily and were really unsatisfied. Short ribs with a sweet baked potato side : she said it was the right size for her and she really enjoyed them including the small salad that came with Surf and turf for 3: the Tomahawk was not cooked to our liking ( medium) and it came out half medium , half medium rare and it was kind of rubbery , the lobster was super garnished that you couldn't really taste or see the meat itself , scallops and shrimp were delicious. Pudding Chomeur: we shared with all 10 of us and it was so delicious , our favourite part of the meal In all honesty , getting our food super late made 3/4 of us take the food to go for the next day and it was a disappointing birthday dinner, regardless of the complimentary shots that were given to us . I completely understand that it was a 9pm (9:50) on a Saturday night , but it if the restaurant can't handle a big group at that time, they are better off letting the clients know . All while backed by energetic beats and an eclectic vibe. The food and cocktails were of outstanding quality and the menu was condensed and red meat focused, but had something for fish and veggie lovers alike. A Montreal staple that I have heard tons about and wanted to try! We had a group of 8 out for dinner on a Thursday night and it was hopping! While the scene in Montreal usually is during the evening, it was more than I had expected for a Thursday night! Parking on your own that night was barely possible so all of us ended up valet-ing our car. We got a set of oysters for the table which were great (along with a few other appetizers). I got the beef tartare for my main meal and found it to be too much! We also got two desserts on the house! How fun! I wanted to finish it so badly but I couldn't. Service was fine. The name of this place definitely through me off when I was told about it. I definitely though it was some kind of male strip club, but it definitely wasn't. lol. Grinder is a trendy and upbeat restaurant in Montreal. It has more of a loungey vibe and the crowd seems like that is more so what they are there for. A few birthday groups and overall larger groups were seated throughout. There is a huge bar in addition to the tables throughout the restaurant, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. I had an order of their salad that came with pecans, apples, goat cheese and maple dressing and it was delicious. Surprisingly one of the more delicious salads I've ever had. I also had an order of their short ribs and sweet potato fries, which were very good. The bartenders were friendly and they have a very good spirit selection. I went to grinder at 9pm on a Friday night with my girlfriends. We had to wait a bit even though we made reservations. We ordered wine at the bar. I like that it's open and that fresh air comes in. We shared two bottles of white wine. I ordered the duck tartare. It was really good and it came with fries which were also really good. I tried my colleagues salmon tartare but honestly I preferred the duck. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes and we dipped our fries in it. Omg You gotta try it! The mashed potatoes were so creamy and cheesy. It was fingerlicking good! We did a couple of shots with the waiter and got a free dessert. The shots had coffee in it. It went down smooth. One of my best friends had organized her own birthday to be held in Grinder in a special private room on the second floor near the back of the facility. It's a completely separate room which used to be an apartment that the restaurant just bought out and added it to their own. It had about 6 large tables and could seat upwards of 40+ people if necessary but this party was going to be smaller than that. The party was going to be on the Saturday but we were able to come in on Friday evening and set up the place with all the decorations and set up the tables the way we wanted. I have to say the staff here was very accommodating and helpful which included the valet at the front to the individuals who allowed us access to the room and showed us the set up etc. We had a menu to choose from for this special event being held in the back and considering this place has their own boucherie (butcher shop) right across the street it's safe to say the quality of meats as well as other dishes served here would be as fresh as could be. In addition to the variety of starters which were being served the choices for the menu consisted of a variety of meats with fish choices as well. For starters we had had the beef tataki which was served with cashews and bacon while my wife had the candied salmon which were perfect as tasters. For our mains we had the skirt steak and tuna steak. While this was a still a private function the chef which was looking after the party had a very good variety of choices and the quality of the dishes were great.
