The issue was the meat wasn't the same quality we have had in the past. The salad bar was good, especially the pot roast and potatoes on the hot bar. The meats arrived quickly but the quality was mixed. Some were good but a few of them were fatty or overcooked. The flavor was good for the most part but we had to put a few pieces aside that were too fatty or not cooked properly. The picanha was good but some pieces were tough and overcooked. The tri-tip was the same, which was disappointing as that's my favorite. The blue cheese steak was different and tasty. The issue was the inconsistency of the meats. Overall the service was outstanding but the missed quality of the meats caused the review to be 4 stars.

Before even sitting down, we politely asked if we could wait for a table anywhere outside of that room. We weren't asking for a specific table and were perfectly willing to wait. After waiting, we were taken back through the restaurant--only to be brought to the SAME back room and offered the table directly beside the one we had just declined. Our issue wasn't one particular table; we had specifically asked not to sit in that back room. Meanwhile, we could see available tables in the main dining area and watched parties who arrived after us being seated there. What made the situation worse was the attitude from the hostesses. By the time a manager became involved, it was presented as though we simply "weren't happy anywhere they seated us," which wasn't true. When the manager asked where we wanted to sit, I explained that literally anywhere outside of that room was fine. We were finally seated elsewhere and the issue was resolved. Having my senior parents unnecessarily walk back and forth through the restaurant also made the situation more frustrating, especially since one has difficulty walking. What should have been a fun birthday dinner started off stressful and uncomfortable. I completely understand restaurants have seating rotations and closed sections, and I don't expect to choose an exact table. But when you're spending nearly $300 on a special-occasion dinner, the atmosphere is part of the experience. That isolated corner beside an emergency exit seems much better suited for overflow than regular seating when other tables are available. Thankfully, once we were finally seated, we were able to enjoy our dinner. I hope management addresses both the seating setup and the way the front-of-house staff handles reasonable guest requests. Simply listening to us the first time would have prevented the entire situation.

I am not sure that it's 100% authentic but there are always Spanish speaking customers, that tells me something. The dessert, the cake that is in milk, sorry forgot the name was sooo good. We decided to sit at the bar and initially thought we were going to order to-go. So while we perused the menu, we ordered Pina Coladas and bacalaitos. The drinks were very tasty and pretty to boot. The bacalaitos were perfectly fried and not sopping wet with grease, which they tend to be at most places. I ordered the whole fried red snapper with tostones and Hubby ordered the Trifongo with Pulpo with a side of white rice and red beans. We also ordered the fried pork chops with rice and beans for my FIL, who lives with us and was at home with his home health aide. We told our server that we'd like all three dinners to go. Chef Albert came out of the kitchen and begged us to reconsider. We explained that we had to get back home, but he promised us that he would get our meals out in 10 minutes so we could enjoy it while it was hot and fresh. We decided to trust him. I heard him giving orders in the kitchen and Chef Albert was true to his word. Our meals came out in less than 15 minutes (also rare for Latin restaurants). My snapper was delicious!! Fried to perfection, nicely seasoned with sautéed onions (I personally like a lot of onions, so next time I'll ask for more). My tostones were very tasty too, with a side of mayoketchup. Hubby's Trifongo was to die for. So moist and tasty - and he didn't even have the cilantro sauce on it (had it on the side). The octopus was very tender and tasty. The rice and beans were very good as well. If only we had brought an avocado with us, it would have been perfection. Dad's pork chop was aromatic (Hubby and I don't eat meat, but it did smell good). It was a decent sized chop and Dad put a good dent into it. He said it was very flavorful. So not only was the food amazing, but the service was exceptional. Our server, Esmeralda, was friendly, knowledgeable, and smiled the entire time. She made several recommendations that were spot on. Chef Albert was a delight and the other servers behind the bar were also friendly. I can't wait to bring my mom, brother, and sister-in-law. Oh and did I mention that I'm Puerto Rican, so I know good Puerto Rican food when I'm eating it. I'm so glad that ZHills has a great PR restaurant.
