Just visited Chamo Bites today. They specialize with Venezuelan street food including arepas, cachapas, tostones, empanadas, patacones, & tequenos. I do love this food so it is a nice welcome to the Krates at the Grove. Ordering can be a challenge due to language barrier. One male was there who couldn't speak any English except to go or for here. Soon after a female who spoke English was there who was very nice and helpful. This is not fair if the person doesn't understand our order. I think it be helpful if someone working the front was bilingual. That would really make the customer service much better. Saying hello is a pretty simple cordial detail too. I ordered a patacones which is basically a plantain sandwich with ropa vieja (shredded beef), ham, Cole slaw, cheese, & and tons of sauce. This was good, but the sauce on here was overkill. It was way too much. It basically tasted like a messy Mayo amongst other flavors. I think if I ordered it next time I'd say sauces on the side. Food here takes a very long time. Luckily they have good a/c, but it does get smoky like the ventilation should be better. I have had Venezuelan food a lot of other places. I'm happy for another variety especially in the Krates where there is different types of food.

Chamo Bite Sample Platter, Empanada de jamón y queso

Having lived in Venezuela as a kid and having Venezuelan parents, I've been looking for a place that makes good, true Venezuelan food nearby and guys- that place is finally here. I took my family here on a Sunday Funday adventure to the Krates in Wesley Chapel and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We ordered a Chamo Bites Platter to share and my dad wanted a ham and cheese empanada, and they were delicious and extremely fresh. We also got some Frescolita, chicha and jugo de parchita (Passionfruit juice) and I instantly got transported back to my years living in Venezuela. Top things I would recommend getting if you're trying out Venezuelan good for the first time or just wanting to try something new: Chicha- literally the best thing we had and everyone needs to try it. It was delicious! Tequeños- cooked to perfection! Mini arepas/arepas in general- we got two mini arepas in our Chamo Bites Platter. One was reina pepiada and the other was pabellón, which are traditional Venezuelan arepas. I also got one (not pictured) with cheese, ham and plantains and it was also great.

Only ordered a Cacharra with cheese. A corn tortilla like a pancake. It was great. A quick way to order but we had to wait 15 minutes for it. You can just walk around the area and come back.

The patacon with shredded beef was to die for. So highly recommended. We are definitely coming back here

I don't know about authenticity of the food but I loooove chamo bites. Lol. The cachapa and empanadas are soooo good. The cachapa is Made from corn flour and have pieces of corn in it. The plain cheese is my fave. I could eat these every week. They have some seating inside and out. But like all krates it's limited. Unlike other reviews, I had no trouble communicating with the cashier. Not sure if this got better since those reviews. The orders do take some time to come out but their ALWAYS PIPING hot and delicious.

I've been here a couple of times. It is a Small space, you could eat in and there is sitting on the sidewalk as well. Spanish music was playing in the background. they do not accept cash. Regardless of what time of the day or how busy are they, food seems to take about 10 minute or more. Food taste authentic and fresh, except for fries which were super oily and deep fried.

What a wonderful place! We stopped at KRATE for lunch on a Friday and decided to try this gem! All of the food looked good, and the owner suggested we do the sampler platter. It was a ton of food, so we were happy we split it. But we couldn't decide what we liked best because it was all outstanding! The owner was also super nice, and their inside space was cool and nicely decorated. We'll be back soon for dessert.

Great place to grab a cachapa, which is a sweet corn pancake filled with deliciously stretchy cheese! Definitely big enough for sharing. Add it to your list of places to stop at Krate and do a whole "tasting crawl." I do wish the space was a little more inviting, but get yours to go and sit in one of the many delightful outdoor seating areas.

Out of all the eateries at the Krates this is by far my favorite. The staff is always friendly and these are some of the best arepas I have ever had. Get the sampler platter to try a bit of everything.

    Pabellón criollo (bad)
    Roxana Q.

I have eaten several times at Chamo Bites: 1.Unfortunately the lunches are NOT good, the 'pabellón criollo" is very bad, the "carne mechada" was super salty and in my opinion almost decomposed, it tasted and smelled terrible. 2. The breakfast food (arepas - empanadas - cachapas - etc) is very good and fast food like hamburgers too. 3.Natural juices are good. 4. The attention is good. I hope they can improve the quality of the food because they do some dishes well but after trying that lunch (Pabellón Criollo) I don't know if I would go back.

Great food but kind of pricey. We got the sampler and shared it to try and keep the cost down. The cachapas were to die for. Corn and cheese combos in any form is great. The arepas were good but a little messy and hard to eat. Overall was very pleased and have gone back specifically for cachapas but this is not a place for a budget meal.

What a lovely little spot with very friendly staff. It was my first time at The Krates inside The Grove Mall and I wanted a small bite and found this restaurant and I'm glad the food did not disappoint. We got the tequeños and chicken empanadas and they were piping hot. The empanadas were crunchy on the outside but super soft on the inside. The passion fruit juice was very good. The green and the pink sauce were so good that I was drenching everything in it. Definitely recommend and coming back when I'm in town again.

The cafe con leche was very smooth and tasty served in a cute cup with their logo. 4/5 The arepa had a lot of meat and had ketchup and some other sauces. Also, the arepa "patties" are small relative to the meat/lettuce filling. I kind of wished they were bigger. There was more meat than arepa lol. Overall: a great , mom and pop place to get Venezuelan street food!

It's in a stand alone building, right next to a large apartment complex. The turn is very easy to miss on your first visit, even with GPS. But once you've been there, you'll never miss it again. Your tastebuds will lead you home. When I got there, early on a Thursday morning, the place was humming. There are no tables or booths-it's take out only... and people were whizzing in-then whizzing out with big boxes or bags. That was a very good sign. But soon, I didn't notice the other people (cue the music montage)... I was mesmerized-transfixed, even... by all the goodies. Everything from delicate coconut pastries to corn casserole to fruit tarts/tortes, to chicken empanadas, to fancy cakes to big, puffy/fluffy cheese loaves... all beautifully displayed and labeled. It was a feast for the senses. I couldn't stop taking photos! I also couldn't decide what to get, but finally blurted out something about the corn casserole and quickly added the coconut cocada and pan bolo (guava). I am happy to report that everything tasted as good as it looked. As the 80s ballad declared: "the search is over"... I have found my favorite bakery, I love that it has both sweet and savory items. I will be back again and again. But not just for the food. It's the service! The woman helping me was absolutely delightful. She was warm and friendly and helpful and full of good suggestions. She was sunshine. That's something you can't put in a display case or add to a recipe.. Ricopan, you're a star! I'll be back! P.s. private parking lot-fair prices-very clean and they also sell coffee-maybe other drinks, too.
