Large serving of rice and sufficient maduros enough for two people per plate. But the protein is only sufficient for one person in that same plate. Kind staff. Tostones were made fresh. Clean dining area. read more

The most incredibly nasty Pasteles I have ever tasted in my life. Stringy masa full of sofrito. Please go back to the island and learn how to make them. It was so disappointing. I also ordered the chicken soup. The broth was tasteless and watered down. It was full of bones. Noodles completely over cooked. And I am positive this was microwaved as I burned my mouth. Mind you I door dashed this to my office. So think about how hot it was before I got it. Will never order food here again. read more

I used to come to this restaurant many years ago yesterday I went to it because I was craving Puerto Rican food and it was the worst experience ever. It seems that it's going down. The worst pastel de Pernil was old. and the rice was hard like it's been in the refrigerator for two weeks. The goat was disgusting and old. read more

Update ( I guess I forgot we ordered here before and only realized when we left the review but the food seems to be consistently bad ...dang they got us again for being so close lol) I've tried the chicharrones from this place twice now, (3 if you count 8 months ago when I forgot) and both times were a letdown. The first time, my partner picked up the order in person , we paid for a pound but got maybe 3/4 of a pound, and they were just fat with no crunch at all. They had the audacity to be bad and on top of that SHORT US. I decided to give them another chance and ordered through Uber Eats. They were still warm, so clearly fresh, but they were the chewiest, most unflavored and unappetizing chicharrones I've ever had still just full of fat. From a place called La Lechonera, you'd think they'd have these down. Sadly, I'll probably never order from here again. ( IF I CAN REMEMBER LMAO) read more

Wanted Puerto Rican food on my way back to the airport. I got mofongo with fried chicken. The chicken was cooked well but extremely salty nearly inedible. My mofongo was just okay but a little more dry than I like. My partner got the roasted pork and arroz con gandules. The pork was incredibly dry and lacked flavor. The rice tasted old and also flavorless. We also ordered a chicken and beef pastelillo and there was hardly any meat in either, the empanada shell was so overcooked and dry and they tasted like straight sofrito. Sadly none of it tasted anything like the delicious food we experienced in Puerto Rico read more

Clean, friendly, authentic Cuban food always fresh with good variety. This is a café style eat in or take out. Pleasant atmosphere.

Was really excited when I seen this place near my new home I'm from Orlando and it's hard to find a good lechonera nearby , $50 for two small plates that lacked a lot of flavor and on top of that the empanadas where extremely hard and dry definitely hate leaving this review but I was deeply saddened with the experience read more

I love this place sooooo much! It has the greatest yuca sides, and I love their plantains. The hot food bar is a little intimidating for me, but the food is honestly worth it. The portions are also enormous, and I think a box is enough to feed a family. The staff here are very welcoming, and they helped me to make some menu choices. read more

I have come here throughout the years since coming to live in Florida. Food has always been tasty. One of my favorites are the pasteles. Very tasty, great flavor. I went this Friday November 21 again. I dug into my pasteles and there was a human hair in it!!! There went my ability to keep eating! Good bye Lechonera! It was nice knowing you. I realize mistakes happen or whatever but that I can't deal with. Only thing I regret is not to telling and showing the hair to people in charge. Brandon, I know the difference from a hair and a banana leaf thread. read more

La Lechonera is my go-to for Puerto Rican food in Tampa. It's a cafeteria-style restaurant and they have serve dishes that are exclusive to Puerto Rico. They even serve Medalla and Coco Rico. During lunch, the line can get pretty long, but they always have a few people behind the counter working so it does move fast. read more

Terrible food. Old rice and Lechon, go figure being that they are named "Lechonera. I am pretty sure I caught Salmonella from them. Was sick a few hours later. Don't eat here. And Owners if you are Reading this, please go back to culinary school. This place is a disgrace to Latin food. read more

The food is actually like the service is great. The restaurant doesn't look like much and while you sit there, you realize that most of their orders are out go and pick up orders by local Hispanics, but the food is really great. I especially like their Mofongo he comes with a very small salad and beef gravy. I also order some meat with it when I have it unfortunately, it's a long ride for me from the Port to Tampa but at times do I have to go to the VA hospital for treatment at the VA eye clinic in Tampa for treatment and when I do, I stop Burney and eat read more

We were in the mood for lechon and decided to try this long-standing Tampa classic! It's super casual, clean, cafeteria style and unbelievably affordable. It was obviously our first time but the staff were gracious and served us up a massive quantity of lechon, rice and beans and maduros or yucca for $10 each. Ask for the garlic sauce they have as it's fantastic. The lechon is moist, well flavored and really just right! You get your food on a tray and then eat at a table. Paying comes later, when you are finished. No hurry! Just relax and enjoy! It's not fancy nor does it have an amazing atmosphere. It does provide a huge amount of food and friendly service. I used my limited Spanish vocabulary and did fine. Life is good with a local classic! read more

I've been eating at La Lechonera for at least 15, possibly 20+ years and it was always a reliably tasty Puerto Rican casual restaurant. Mi Pueblo (RIP) and Casona were my 2 favorites and then came La Lechonera. But, lately, me and a few other loyal followers have found the food to have declined and not be the same type of consistently good PR food. The Rabo (oxtail), overly salty. The pernil lacking in that tasty garlicky / mojo goodness. The chicken stew...meh at best. I hope they return to their former level of very tasty dishes. A meal last week at Oasis Rotisserie and yesterday at Tropical Cuisine on Adamo & 301 confirmed to me how much La Lechonera has declined. Hope they find their way back to that home cooked goodness and PR flavors. read more

La Lechonera - Pork, rice, Maduro, Croquetas De Jamon - Latin American Near Me - Tampa, Florida

This is another hidden gem that I can't be selfish with anymore. I believe this is my second visit to this establishment. OMG!! It seems they cook with love and flavor. It feels like you are back in Puerto Rico with someone's grandmother who is cooking for you. We started with the traditional Coco Rico sodas. As for the entree the oxtail which was more fat them meat as you can see in the pictures. A side of Maduros, and dirty rice and peas. The flavors when combined are delicious. We also ordered a shrimp Mofongo which was also very delicious but ordered 1 because it is made for 2 people. The only real problem is the line wait if the help isn't there you will be online a bit. But I promise you it's worth it. These are the mom-and-pop shops we should be raving about. That old traditional cooking with flavor and love that these cooks are using. The ambiance is like an old lunchroom when you would go to school back in the 80s. The decor, old history of Puerto Rico. If you love some real authentic Puerto Rican food this is the establishment to be. Kudos to LA Lechonera for giving the community some flavorful dishes. I wish nothing but success for this establishment and may they continue to be an establishment to be reckoned with. Till next time and hopefully, my fellow Elites will stop by as well. read more

My family visited me and had a craving for Puerto Rican food. Let me just start off by saying La Lechonera did not disappoint! They have a large selection of traditional dishes, appetizers, and desserts. The portions are huge and the prices are just right. I also came here to order rice for a wedding. I paid a little over $100 for enough rice to feed 80 people possibly more. They are so friendly and helpful too! read more

The food was not good. The rice was hard, the pechuga was not cooked all the way through and their ensalada de codito was not good at all. We waited 35 mins for tostones as well. 0/10 read more

Rice looked old and I asked if it was today's rice, she Says yes. Sure enough I asked for it, and it was cold and and hard like day old rice. I asked her to warm up which she did.. but there was no fixing the rice . Alcapurrias were very good though. Unfortunately I won't be back. read more

This place has very chill vibes, it's no frills and all flavor. My Spanish is halfway to halfway decent but the ladies serving were definitely helpful and they serve more food than you can eat in one sitting. We got the Lechon en Cebolla with rice and plantains and a plate of oxtail with rice that had chorizo and yuca. The yuca was amazing ands garlicky I've only ever had it fried so this style stood out.
