Inside a churro donut

Solid 3.5 stars Delicious, authentic Colombian food. Large menu with a lot of options. Our empanadas weren't the most fresh we've had but the flavor was still good. We ordered a platter for two. The steak was very thin and there were a lot of Chicharrones but everything tasted good. We had to request sauce for the yucca. Would definitely return to try other items.

This place doesn't have breakfast all day which is why we originally went there. We ordered lunch and it was really good. They make a really great cafe con leche. The service was pretty good. I don't have any complaints. The restaurant had some booths and some tables in the center. Some colorful pictures hung around. This is a decent restaurant. Will be going back at some point.

Congrats to Mi Carreta! Today was their first day open in Lutz, FL. Their first location is in St. Pete, & we have been going there forever. We were stunned to see a coming soon sign for them much closer to home. Following them on FB, I knew they were opening today. I didn't hesitate visiting them asap. Mi Carreta serves Colombian breads and desserts, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their menu is huge. My husband loves their Colombian tamale. This is very hearty, it's huge and in the middle is a huge chicken leg bone and all with chicken that falls off the bone. It's very filling. I love Colombian stews so I ordered their Friday special which is the sudado de pollo(chicken stew). It's a huge serving with rice, salad, potato, yucca, chicken, and chicken broth with chicken also. The set up is very nice and they did a great job. There are booths and tables here with nice decor and there was also a band playing different Spanish music. We love this place and are so happy they are closer to us now. It may very well be a pretty regular Friday night spot for us. You can find many options here. They have steaks, chicken, & fish here. Steak is most popular at Colombian restaurants in my opinion. Our service was excellent with everyone checking on us & making sure we had everything we needed!

Bandeja Paisa

A few weeks ago, my wife and I visited La Carreta Restaurant, and we had an amazing experience. The cuisine is authentic Colombian, full of rich flavors and generous portions that truly showcase the heart of Colombia. La Hamburguesa La Carreta is absolutely delicious and big enough for two. It's packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The Bandeja Paisa is simply out of this world -- a true Colombian classic done right, with every component seasoned and prepared to perfection. On Sundays, they have a live artist performing during brunch, which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. My wife and I had a great time enjoying the music, food, and vibrant ambiance. If you plan to go on the weekend, I definitely recommend making reservations because it gets busy. We're already looking forward to going back soon! Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Colombian cuisine and a great dining experience.

The St. Pete location is the best but it's too far for us. Lutz is a new location opened a few months ago. So may have to give them time. Food was ok. Tilapia was salty. Sancocho was good. Pan de bono was burned on one side. Pandeja país was good too.

Stopped in for lunch for the first time today, and I must say I was very impressed. The service, food and the atmosphere was all on point. My husband and I split a Carne empanada, as I love empanadas and I'm glad I did, as it was very good . He had the Cuban sandwich with fries, and I had the chicken and rice. The presentation was so nice and I must say that everything was absolutely delicious. When we left, we also purchased a couple of their beautiful desserts from the showcase. We have not ate them yet, but I'm sure they're gonna be delicious as well . This place is definitely a hidden gem.

We returned on a Sunday around noon. Very busy and kinda chaotic, but somewhat well managed. I'm glad they are staying busy. The food was quite good. The fried pork ribs were delicious. The Bandeja paisa and sancocho were very tasty as well. If I'm getting extra critical, the fact that they don't give you a napkin with your silverware is annoying. You have to use these really thin, crappy napkins at the table. You need to use 647 of those crappy napkins instead of them just giving you a decent napkin to start. The ambiance was decent. The place is cool but there was a lot of trash on the floor. They were very busy, so I get it. Still a positive experience overall and tasty food.

The service was good everyone was super friendly and helpful. We had the beef empanadas- crispy and made to order. No soggy crust. For dinner we ordered the bandeja paisa - yum! The chicharrón was my favorite. We also had coffee and a pan de bono. The flavors were in point well seasoned and although the place is small it was busy. Definitely worth the visit. The ladies working were not familiar at all. They also were not friendly and helpful. I was pretty sad. It did make me feel like the previous owners were gone bc either one were there. Also we ordered two empanadas. I like their green chimmichuri sauce with it, and as soon as I asked for it, she walked away and never came back. Even the pic on the outside sign shows them with that sauce, but nope never got it. They also have their usual Colombian drinks which are Postobon and Colombiana. They are more expensive and smaller sizes. We will definitely take a break from here. Hope the owners that we know and love will be there.

If you're looking for something really, really hearty and filling the bean casserole is always my go-to, and this time it did not disappoint. Super generous portion sizes, especially with the pik-niks. I know they're just pik-niks, but I appreciate them pouring the whole can into my bowl. There was also much more chorizo, which I absolutely welcome because I feel it sometimes gets understated by the chicharron. Really thick and juicy pieces too! The chicharron itself was perfect, crispy while also having that rich, tender fat inside. Usually I'm indifferent towards arepas, as almost all the ones I've gotten at restaurants have tasted like paper, but this one completely changed my mind. It had a really nice, crackly outer layer and tasted almost like a tostone, I'll definitely have to try the other arepa dishes on the menu next time I come here. I came in on a Wednesday morning, and the staff were all very friendly and kind. Inside, it's really inviting with all the natural light and, of course, the gigantic breads and pastries in the bakery section. If I could fit more calories in my diet, I probably would've gotten every single thing in those cases. I will absolutely be back soon, this is without a doubt the best Colombian restaurant I've eaten at so far!

I was a little nervous at first since I'm not a fluent Spanish speaker, but the waitress who helped me was very kind and helped me order and gave me some great suggestions. I ordered the skirt steak with yellow rice, beans, and plantains, as well as the skirt steak with mofongo. Everything was SO good! As a Miami native, I grew up around a lot of authentic Latin food, and this definitely gave me that genuine, traditional Colombian flavor I was hoping for. The steak was delicious and the sides were just as good. I also tried the passion fruit juice with water instead of milk, and really enjoyed that too. I wish I had taken pictures because the food was absolutely delicious, but I was too busy eating . Great food, friendly service, and an overall really good first experience. I'll definitely be back!

The restaurant is located in an unassuming strip plaza off of Hillsborough Avenue, near Veteran's Expressway. While the place isn't fancy by any means, the generous, favorable traditional dishes make up for it. As the place is known to get packed very quickly, especially around normal meal times, the petite waitstaff is highly attentive, friendly, and helpful in getting customers seated as soon as possible. Also, despite the sometimes loud din in the restaurant, patrons are jovial and just glad to be served. Among the best tostones/patacones I've ever had are those here. As opposed to being cut round, these plantains are cut on a lengthy diagonal, and they are never overcooked, so they remain soft and crunchy. Also, there is a lot of flavor in their frijoles (red beans), and they also add pieces of plantain to them. Having a daily Sancocho soup on the menu also earns them bonus points.
