I love LCPX cafe so I decided to try the sister restaurant La Pequeña Colombia that is located right next door. We ordered the tostones de carne y pollo and these were so tasty. Loaded with meats and topping such a good appetizer for sharing! The bandeja paisa was good but I wish the meats were a bit more flavorful. The flan wasn't bad but it did not need the added sprinkles. The fresh juices are amazing I really enjoyed the mango and would definitely order this again! Overall not a bad experience I just enjoy the unique modern dishes that LCPX cafe offers more than what's offered here. I went with two other people and we shared the app and main entree and still had leftover food so the portions are HUGE! read more

Where have you been all my life? It's been a while since we wanted to try out La Pequena Columbia and not disappointed. Service is quick, so be ready ... not like us newbies. Clearly there are regulars who know what the un want. Ambiance in the main dining room is bright led lights with a bar area selling desserts, etc. We didn't check out the back rooms but definitely a lively place with tv screens, etc. We sat in the booth by the front door area. Churrasco Argentina was the best with rice, plantains and those potatoes. Yum! Tablasco was good but the tostones were cold and dry. Cold Aguila and Club Columbia beer washed it all down. This is a fantastic spot for brunch! The waiter was super helpful with explaining what a lot of dishes were. As well they have a Spanish latte that tasted so good. It wasn't too sweet and hand a hint of orange that I didn't expect to like but it complemented the latte perfectly. My husband ordered a bowl that came with rice, chicken, avocado, beans and salad. Plus plantains. I ordered a plate that had scrambled eggs with tomatoes in it, with rice and beans and a corn flat bread (Arepa) that you could order either with cheese or sweet. It also came with a sausage. The rice and beans were so delicious . The ambiance was also super cute, we sat at the back where they had chickens walking around and they had a section for kids. read more

I visited tampa in august and decided to try this restaurant but it wasnt the best experience. The service was HORRIBLE and I have a feeling that it was because I'm african american. I hate to say that but I sat at the bar since it was just me (plus the place was slammed so no tables) and the waitress just looked at me and ignored me. Another couple sat at the bar next to me a few mins later and she was all over them. They spoke spanish so maybe thats why? I also noticed other customers giving me weird stares like I didnt belong there. I was literally seconds from getting up & leaving when another waitress came over and gave me a menu. I finally ordered and she had to get another waiter to help because of the language barrier. I'm going to have to learn spanish if I ever come back to tampa!! As far as the food goes, I really enjoyed my dish. I got the "tostones carne y pollo" and the portion was on the smaller size but it was delicious. It didnt come with any sides either but for $13 im not complaining. I wish I remembered the drink I got but that was also good too. The waiter helping my waitress translate recommended it and he was the only staff member that was nice to me. Sad. Overall I give this place a 2/5 because the food was really good but the whole atmosphere was small, cramped and beyond awkward for me. There is nothing not to love about this place. I forget to check in regularly lol because I start eating lol. The service is spectacular. The food full flavored and delicious and it's a family friendly spot, but like everywhere in the Tampa area, you want to be aware of your surroundings. Plenty of cameras make this place feel safe. We love it and the bakery counter usually costs us an every $20-30, but it's amazing. read more

Most of my visits were in the distant past when they were open for breakfast and closed later than they do now. A very busy place that was always packed and they opened a location nearby selling a different menu of items. In the past, service and management was arrogant and some of the servers bordered on moronic. My son who is grown now, had his most horrible and distasteful birthday meal at this location. I will not go into detail but service and food was atrocious that day. They were so busy that they did not have to care about the customer. Oh, how the mighty have fallen! I finally returned after that fateful day at the insistance of a friend who was homesick for Tamales which they make. The place was empty at noon on Thursday to my surprise. Workers waiting by the door with effusive greetings as we entered. A completely different vibe from years ago. The service and management had changed drastically, very friendly, very attentive and helpful. I guess you become nicer when customers stop coming. My friend ordered Tamales and I had the Arroz con Camarones, an old favorite of mine. The food has always been mostly good and it was very good on this visit. My rice was very flavorful and chock full of succulent shrimp. I felt like it was an entirely different experience. I did not try any this visit but they do have some wonderful pastries and desserts that are a must. Hopefully the new trend of being humble and nice will bring the customers back eventually. My first time ever going to a Colombian restaurant. It seemed awfully similar to Mexican cuisine. I had no idea what I was walking into and when I opened the door for the restaurant I looked left and saw a bar, straight ahead I saw a bakery, and to the right I saw dance club balls flashing light and massive TV screens. Of course soccer was on tv. First up were $6 beef empanadas. I thought they were pretty good. Certainly not as good as Empamama at Armature Works, but certainly above average. Up next I ordered a $38 Argentino Paisa Churrasco. It had a steak, brown beans, avocado, rice, an egg, pork, plantains, and a sausage. The steak was actually alright. There was a smokey/grill taste to the meat which I like. The sausage tasted weird. The pork stuff was inedible. I don't like white rice anywhere. And the beans were ok. For dessert I tried $1.75 Cocadas. It tasted like an almond joy minus the almond and minus the chocolate. Overall, I really enjoyed the coconut taste. Trying to get anyone here to explain menu items to non-Spanish speakers was difficult. They would mostly just repeat the name of the item which means I have no clue what it is. Came in during lunch and the place wasn't busy at all. They have booth, table and bar seating. They even have a bakery area so that you can get your sweets before leaving. Which btw I'd recommend getting the chocolate chip cookie! We were with a group, 5 people and service was good. Orders were out in no time. You do get ALOT of food! 3 of us had to get boxes to take our food to go. I had the Arroz con pollo which came with plantains, salad and beans. I love Columbia's empanadas but the ones they served me tasted like they were sitting there for 7 hours. No crunch and stale. They didn't skimp on the filling and the filling was great! They also gave it to me with no sauces, which it normally is served with. The arepa was dry and stale. Don't recommend. The chicharron was cooked well though with a nice crunch! Continuing my search for the best latin food Tampa has to offer, and this place has definitely become one of my favorites! I got the cazuela de frijoles and my partner got the bandeja paisa. The cazuela is the perfect comfort food for me personally, it has pretty much everything I love in it, especially the chicharron. My all time favorite food is Asian crispy pork belly, so to see the gigantic portions they give of chicharron here is honestly a dream come true, it's so perfectly crispy and rich here. The sausage and beef were also nice and tender, and I love the plantains giving everything a light touch of sweetness. I was also shocked by how flavorful the rice was???? I have no idea why it's so good. Overall, I think this is a really great spot if you love gigantic portions of all the good stuff. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

Definitely authentic Columbian food! And definitely HUGE portions! I don't think I've ever seen larger! I ordered a traditional dish of nine: Bandeja Paisa ($17.25), which included fried pork belly, chorizo, ground beef topped w/ a poached egg, white rice, beans, a slice of avocado, a plantain piece & a small arapa. (SEE PIC.) "Bandeja" means platter while "Paisa" refers to the Paisa region of Columbia. This translates to "the platter of the people of Paisa." It is the National dish of Columbia even though its inception was not until 1950 (although thought to be the derivative of a longstanding peasant dish). "Hearty" does not begin to describe it. My dinner companion ordered Steak & Chicken Fajitas ($21), which resembled all other similarly-named dishes with the exception of the hoardes of meat & veggies & the fresh salad-- SEE PIC. Our entrees were VERY GOOD-- fresh & flavorful. Management describes this restaurant as "Folksy, family-owned bar/eatery with TVs, old-school Columbian dishes, & a bakery counter." There is a bar (2) complete w/ bar stools. This establishment caters to native speakers. The business website offers no information or entrée descriptions in English. The webpage appears to be outdated (different restaurant times) & it lacked photos & other information even though there were links. Open 11 AM till 8 PM Sun, Mon, Wed, & Thurs, & 11 AM till 10 PM Fri & Sat, this 1990 eatery is closed on Tues. Dine-in, curbside, & online ordering are available. DOORDASH picks up here. The husband & wife owners live locally. Of the entire large staff, only two are fluent in English. I had the pleasure of talking w/ Philippe, the owners' nephew. During our visit to the restaurant on a Friday night, the dining room was very busy & packed w/ Columbians. We appeared to be the only "outsiders" on site; however, staff was friendly & helpful regarding the menu. (I find it a great sign when native eaters flood a restaurant.) The two-sided menu offers entrée photos, as well as descriptions in both Spanish & English. (The online menu offers no English.) There is a Sunday BRUNCH from 8 AM to 3 PM. I would include more info if I were able to read information on the website. I do wholeheartedly recommend that you NOT request booth seating. We had trouble comfortably sitting in a booth! He had to sit @ the very end on one side & I had to sit catty cornered at the other end across from him-- or we physically wouldn't fit (& neither of us is that large:) Seated near us in the middle of the long, very narrow dining room was a table of twelve-- feasting on a group entrée that was gigantic & gorgeous! Every dish that was walked by us was gorgeous & ENORMOUS-- you cannot possibly go hungry here! If I had not been on a first date, I would have taken many photos of the unusual, homey dining room w/ its large wall TVs (showcasing glorious furbol) & the oddly flashing & pulsating colorful lights. There's lots of rustic wood & knickknacks. (I returned the next morning to snap pics:) The volume inside the restaurant was rather loud, but it still allowed us to communicate with each other. As patrons enter the horizontal dining room, directly in front is a counter that houses a glass case containing traditional pastries & breads. Unfortunately, no signage accompanies the case. The pastries looked beautiful. I recognized large, white merengue cookies & some fruit-stuffed dough doused in powdered sugar, but that's all my unskilled eye could gather. There were also no prices listed. (To increase sales by attracting diners like I, management should reconsider its approach.) I did return the next day to buy my favorite (Pandebono Rolls-- soooo good) & pastries. The pastries were fresh & the dough was flakey. Upon my return trip, I photographed the large side room that houses a stage, a bar, & furniture-- SEE PICS. It is used for entertainment on the weekends (i.e., live music), but can be rented during the weekdays for meetings & parties. This neighborhood restaurant is located within a strip mall. Parking is tight, but it is sufficient due to the connecting businesses being closed in the evening. I hate not including more info in a business review, but I unfortunately took five years of French instead of Spanish:) DO I RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS RESTAURANT? Yes! I doubt it gets any more authentic than La Pequena. Just come hungry & plan on taking a few Styrofoam containers home w/ you. (Staff brought us plastic bags w/o our request.) I'll return in the near future once I have more time to decipher the online menu. For the prices, the quality of the food, & the quantity you'll receive, this restaurant is more than satisfactory. I felt as though I were eating a warm dish my grandmother might have prepared. And that's a BIG compliment:) read more

When we arrived there were people waiting in line so we joined the line.... Just to find out there was no real line for just two people.... We waited a total of 45 minutes. While in line I called the restaurant 9 times trying to find out if it was reservation only or what.... No answer..... went in and spoke to host who told me 25 minutes... 35 more minutes went by...... then we were seated. Drinks arrived fairly quick but tastes like medicine. Food on the other hand also arrived quick but tasted good. Very loud music so people trying to talk were talking loudly because they could barely hear themselves. This is great Colombian food and bakery. My favorites - Acenda, arepa, and pandebono. If you like meet, the Argentinian churrasco is delicious. But yiu can't go wrong with the bandeja paisa. Get some empanadas as an appetizer. This is a great place to come and watch soccer games too. read more

Ordered over the phone with someone who didn't even care to take my order and rushed me the entire time almost hanging up before letting me finish my order. Anyway, I picked up the order within 20 minutes. I drive all the way back to my hotel only to find the Breaded pork was undercooked. On our quest for good Colombian food, we came to this restaurant for lunch. We had our usual pick, the bandeja paisa, a hearty meal composed of rice & beans, steak, egg, sweet plantains, sausage, fried pork skin, a small arepa and avocado. It's definitely a dish that can be shared by two people. The sausage had a very smoky flavor, it was a bit too much for me. The arepa was so dry and tasteless. We tried a new dish, their tamale, filled with pork, topped with a tomato and onion sauce and served with a side of rice. This was also a hearty dish. The pork meat was delicious, but the tamale (perhaps because of the sauce?) was a bit too sweet. We also had a pan de bono and an almojábana, both very good. Their fruit juices are made with fresh fruit, we had the guava and it was very tasty. Lastly we asked for a couple of cortados (should have known better than this especially being in a non-Cuban restaurant) and instead we got cafe con leche, way more milk than we wanted and a weak tasting coffee with a funky aftertaste. read more

The food was AMAZING, but the service, not so much. My friend and I had to wait for quite some time before being seated even though the restaurant was not busy at all. After being seated and our initial order was taken, we waited for about 30 minutes to be served water and even then I had to stand up and ask someone. Back to the food; we had the empanadas which were a perfect size for an appetizer and the tostones mixtos tasted even better than the photo looks. There was just the right about of toppings on each toston and the meat was seasoned just right that you don't need to add anything else to it. The restaurant itself is stunning and has a comforting vibe to it. Everything seems very well thought out, from the inspirational messages on the wall to the images in the menu.
