Shredded pork with rice and pigeon peas and fried plantains. Pretty good
    Mark F.

Met some family here and had a nice Puerto Rican dinner. We thought the wait staff was a little sluggish and filling up Waters and checking on us, but the food was actually pretty good. Are Puerto Rican relatives swear by this place? So we thought it must be pretty authentic. I had the shredded pork with a gravy sauce and rice with pigeon peas and fried plantains. All was pretty good. Some of the pork was a little dry but the plantains were my favorite sweet spot

Rice and Beans understood the assignment! We made a reservation for 15 people to celebrate our daughter's college graduation and so pleased we chose the perfect spot at Rice and Beans. What hit me first was the decor, warm, cultural and unapologetically Puerto Rican just my kind of spot! The outside open air patio was just as nice. Very spacious spot with plenty of room inside and outside great for large gatherings. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere with an attentive staff that catered to us the entire time. We ordered a lot of food. For appetizers we had the classic fried cheese with guava sauce, sampler platters and the tostones de pana. All crisp and served with extra dipping sauce. The spicy margaritas were fire literally! Passion fruit frappe is my new guilty pleasure so good. Mofongo was good but wish they served it in the traditional Pilon and not a Ramen like bowl. The churrasco was ok was a little tough but the arroz con gandules was seasoned nicely. Everyone was satisfied with the food big portions and service was outstanding. Thank you. This is definitely my favorite Puerto Rican spot in the Wesley Chapel area and glad to see is a beautiful spot. They also have a live band noticed as they were setting up when we were leaving. They are open until midnight on weekends.

Overall the food was very good and I would like to come back, but the service can be improved. I came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't very busy. We were seated right away and put in our orders. I'm not sure how long exactly but it felt like a very long time for us to receive our orders, especially for a table of 4 when the restaurant was mostly empty. The server never came by to update us while we were waiting. By the time we received the food, which was an appetizer, a chicken and 2 Cuban sandwiches, the Cubans weren't very warm at all. The food was very good at least and the Sangria was delicious, but I'm disappointed in the wait and the service. I'd like to give it another chance but it this is typical then I would not continue to come.

Good food, great vibes, friendly service - what more could you ask for? Is service slow? Sure. But I've come to expect that from any Caribbean/Latino establishment. Some of the best empanadas I've had, period. The chicken was my favorite. Mofongo was pretty good too. Passion fruit sangria was very tasty and reminded me of a cocktail that I had while visiting Puerto Rico. They even have live music on the weekends. But beware... it's loud so don't expect to have any intimate conversations.

Arrived 20 minutes before closing time and what a feast we had! Blown away by how welcoming and attentive the staff was so close to closing time. Tried a little bit of everything. Alcapurrias, empanadas and sorullos were fantastic. Ate too much to name it all but was just Wow! Can't wait to come back. Definitely will visit again when they have live music

I didn't even realize I had written a review of this place 5 years ago, where I said I would never come back due to a frustrating wait experience. Funny how time can change things--I guess I had forgotten about that, and I'm glad I didn't remember about it when I chose this place again this time. My sister came over to visit, so we took her to Rice and Beans in Wesley Chapel. We have been here before, and the food is always great (just didn't remember my last incident). There's plenty of parking around the restaurant, which is very convenient. The place has ample seating, but depending on the time you arrive, you might end up waiting a bit. The food continues to impress--super flavorful and satisfying. I ordered the Bistec Encebollado (steak and onions) with arroz con gandules (Puerto Rican rice with pigeon peas), amarillos (sweet plantains), and avocado. My wife had the pernil (roast pork) with arroz con gandules, macaroni salad, and sweet plantains. My sister went for the carne frita (deep-fried tender pork cuts) with trifongo (a mix of sweet plantains, green plantains, and cassava) and salad. We all enjoyed our meals very much. There's also a bar area where solo diners can sit comfortably and enjoy their meal. The restaurant is always clean and well-maintained. Overall, Rice and Beans is definitely a must-visit--you won't be disappointed!

Wow! I visit my brother in Wesley Chapel multiple times a year and I try to eat as much latin food as I can each visit. I'm a big fan of Puerto Rican cuisine and this was a great first experience at this establishment. From the second you open the door I was transported to my childhood in Miami. Classic salsa playing on the speakers with beautiful vibrant latin artwork on the walls. Our server, Ivelisse, was warm, welcoming and super attentive. She went above and beyond! Went during the lunch specials so my parents and I split a plate and an appetizer. Of course I had to get a Medalla Light with my meal. Everything was perfect! You can tell they put thought and LOVE into each dish. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu; WEPA!

Decided to try this place out after a trip to the zoo. When we pulled up, there was lively music playing in the outdoor searing area. It sounded great. However, we had a young child with is so opted on inside seating. The inside was decorated beautifully! The place settings and tables all looked really nice. It was more of an upscale feel to it than I had expected. Definitely a wonderful place to go on date night it seemed. The service was fast. They brought the children's plate out first, which I really appreciated so that she was occupied and we had time to get her situated before our food came out. The food was amazing! It was so delicious! The flavor profiles were perfect. They did overcook my egg, as I had asked for over easy. And one of his pork steaks was overdone, but they cooked another one up right away, which ended up being perfect! We will definitely be back!

What a great vibe on Sundays. Imagine enjoying traditional Puerto Rican flavors while being serenaded with live classic jazz music.

Came in to the restaurant by myself and requested a booth. Was told they don't allow a booth for one person. i left. Was going to order a Kan Kan an acapurria tostones and a couple of to go orders for my family when I finished my meal. There were 4 booths open & no one waiting. I even waiting a couple of minutes before greeted. What horrible customer service & a way to tell your customers I can sit outside at the bar or a high top in your hard uncomfortable chairs. Won't ever be back. Also I'm a 25% tipper. ¡Me Voy!

As delicious as I remember! Came here pre-CV in 2019 and finally went back this month. Service can be quite slow and spotty, but always friendly. Although they don't have their incredible CRAB (JUEYES) alcapurrias anymore (), their mofongo is as soft, GARLICKY, and delish as we remember. My husband's churrasco steak was also phenomenal and my sancocho was packed with veggies and plantain pieces. It's still just like la cocina de mami -- or even grandma's cooking. SO happy to still have this local favorite around after 2020! PS. Pro tip: Once entertainment arrives, it can get quite loud. So arrive early or before live entertainment starts on the weekends to enjoy a much-quieter meal.

2024 Comparison: Churrasco with arrow con handles (rice and peas), maduros (sweet plantain) and tostones
    Lea M.

Slight changes to when I came here last year that I miss. I love this place, best Puerto Rican food (I'm Dominican, orig from NY) but today was a little off for me. I had the churrasco and you get a choice of sides so I got the arroz con gandules and it also came with platanos maduro (sweet plantain). They are doing this upscale thing with the presentation that they didn't do last year like stack the platanos, role and pin the steak and serve the rice in a bowl on the plate. But for me the rice was overly salted, the tostones didn't come salted and wasn't served with any garlic sauce and my churrasco didn't come with any chimichuri. It was still super tasty but I come here every time I visit my mom and so I look forward to coming and so the changes (although minor) were noticeable. Oye, can't serve dry tostones mi familia with no sauce or ketchup. Otherwise it's still bomb af. Music is always good. It's very dark and low lit inside so the prices are a little upscale for what is mostly very basic Spanish food BUT it's good and Wesley Chapel doesn't have a ton of options unless you drive into Tampa, so for me it's worth it.

Parking was plentiful between the lot and street parallel parking. All the parking was free! Once seated, we were greeted by our fantastic server, Neli. She was absolutely amazing! Very personable & friendly! I ordered the More Cheese Flatbread and a side of Breakfast Potatoes. The More Cheese is a flatbread topped with garlic sauce, mozzarella, Gouda, white cheddar, parmesan, fried parsley, and crushed red pepper flakes. I asked for mine without red pepper flakes. For the Breakfast Potatoes, I questioned if they had peppers in them. Neli and the kitchen made sure they did not put them in. Both were absolutely delicious! The flatbread was perfectly cheesy, the crust was thin and not hard, and the fried parsley was a great addition! The Breakfast Potatoes were crispy and I loved the flaky sea salt on them! Ended up having enough for leftovers, which was my dinner that night and just as good at home as it was at the restaurant. Would definitely come back and recommend.

The first Rice N Beans location was in a modest location and then it became a big restaurant in Wesley Chapel. Now they have this new location which is closer to their first location. They serve rotisserie chicken here and other dishes depending on the day of the week. This is a Puerto Rican restaurant. They do not have mofongo. You can find that at their restaurant. Here, I would definitely say to choose their chicken. It was so good and flavorful. We ordered the full chicken and it included two sides which we chose arroz con gandules and Maduros (rice and sweet plantains). The chicken was our fave for sure and we would definitely get it again. The service was very friendly. I came late on Wednesday night. They close at 7 and it was about 6:45. I picked up a menu and came back the next day. Glad I stopped by and tried the chicken. It was great. There are many chicken places opening up around us, but it's fried chicken. This is roasted chicken. I love Puerto Rican rice arroz con gandules, but I'd ask if it's newly made. I didn't think this rice we had was as fresh and it didn't have much flavor. I would try the rice again if I saw they just made it! This area is becoming a Latin crawl for food. Go to Kinka's for breakfast or dessert, Cosita Rica's for empanadas or soups, and Rice N Beans Express for chicken!
