Cuban Sandwich was tasty with their homemade Pork! Sadly communication error sent my husband's home with "mustard only" (I meant no Mayo), but it also didn't come with any cheese or pickles. 1. I loved the outside vibe gives Latin Caribbean, inside vibe gave more of a diner style 2. Service was nice. I thought the young ladies were very nice. They gave suggestions on food and even let us sample some of the food. 3. Food was good. I loved the breaded steak sandwich and the meatballs were really good. These were the best options in my option although I only had a few of the menu items. For me, the pork, rice and beans were more on the salty side but I loved the onions on top and I would have liked to have something to help balance out the saltiness. 4. I had a hard time determining the price of the menu items. The menu had the prices blacked out so I was not sure what the cost was until I was rang up. Had take out of pork, black beans and rice for 3 and it was delicious. They give a nice portion and it was juicy and well cooked. The price is very reasonable for the portions given. What a let down. I used to live in Tampa and hadn't been back to Plato Latino in 10 years. I remember having the most amazing Cuban sandwiches and was super excited to go back. I'm sorry I did. The sandwich I received wasn't anywhere near the quality I remember receiving. The bread was pre-pressed and then the *thin* layer of dry meat was placed on top. The sandwich was slapped together, packaged and sent out. $10+ for an 8" sandwich that I didn't want to finish. It was predictable dry, fairly bland and a complete let down. Late this afternoon I was visiting a company in Tampa and searched for a Cuban restaurant in the Carrollwood area of Tampa for an early dinner. I followed the reviews and directions and found I was streets away from Plato Latino. I took a chance. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised and other time a bit disappointed. Today I found a winner, a real affordable gustatory delight. This restaurant isn't Cuban per se however they offer similar platters featuring the ever popular Ropa Vieja, Boliche, Picadillo, Roast Pork and the always popular Cuban sandwich. Similar to Cuban restaurants Plato Latino serves up respectable appetizers like devil crabs, stuffed potatoes, fried Yuca and Guayaba con Queso. Now my time to order and I chose a safe bet, broiled chicken, yellow rice and peas covered with black beans and topped with chopped onions. Simply Mouth watering! Topped off with rich tasting cafe con leche, I'm a satisfied diner. I was too full for Flan for dessert yet it was tempting. Oh now this latin restaurant is so quaint and nice. I love this place. I live thre fact that they know about me and my daughter, plus what we like to eat! We are always laughing and joking with the owners. It is a family-owned business. There is plenty of parking but the restaurant is small. I always order the grilled basa fish with vegetables. But this time I had their greek salad and boy this is sooooo delicious. The potato was very well cooked and with the right herbs. However, this was the first time I had greek potatoes at the bottom of the salad. You have to try this salad! It is worth it just eat it by itself. This small restaurant get a lot of attention during lunch time. We were there 11:40am. The crowds start coming at 12:00 noon on weekdays. We have order the bistec and the pepper steak. The bistec is grilled steak with two choices of side. Since we have two dishes, we got the yellow rice, white rice and sweet plantain. The steak is a bit tough but is is good grilled steak. The pepper steak is cut into pieces and flat iron plate grilled. We like the devil crab which is not smell too fishy. It has full crab meat inside. After reading the reviews and actually trying the food I'm confused. The food seriously lacked seasoning...the beans were bland. The rice had no salt. The chicken was okay and the pork was dry. 3 stars because the staff was nice but the food was a let down. I'm mad that I paid $20 for food I had to go home and add seasoning to. read more

We stopped here for lunch after moving my daughter into her new college apartment. You order deli style at the counter so there is no wait staff to review. The food was not bad but I was surprised it wasn't seasoned more. We ordered roast chicken, roast pork and shrimp and seafood gumbo. We also tried an order of fried bananas. We definitely got full but it was truly just ok. Unfortunately there was no ice in the soda machine so room temp sodas put a damper on this visit. I won't go into details, but I will say that they turned an honest mistake into a very positive experience for me and my family. We are fans for life now. This place is great for vegetarians, and you can get a delicious combinations of yellow rice, black beans and perfectly cooked sweet plantains at a terrific price. The portions are quite generous and we often turn 3 meals for the 3 of us into 6 or 9 meals for the 3 of us. Also try the Cafe Con Leche here... it is among the best that Tampa Bay has to offer... a perfect blend of bold and creamy and sweet. It was so delicious -a good size ball with fried crunchy coating and a lot of crab meat inside. I added a little bit chili sauce from the table and it was so good. I have pepper steak, yellow rice and plantain. They were good. The portion was big . Service was friendly. Interior was clean and comfortable. The pricing was reasonable. What a lovely place! I chose to have Chicken Strips and my two sides were veggies and yellow rice. The only downside was that I had to wait a few minutes, but I still want to give this restaurant five stars because the food tasted great meaning that my wait was 100% worth it. This restaurant is very comparable to the chain Pollo Tropical. Although this may be true, I'd head over to Plato Latino any day before Pollo Tropical. I love Cuban food, but my favorite Cuban restaurant is too far for me to make the spontaneous decision of going there. When I found a reliable Cuban restaurant near me I got excited. This front of the restaurant is hidden from the street and even though I must have driven past it many times I didn't know of its existence until I googled local Cuban restaurants. I like to order the Cuban Sandwich at least once at every restaurant for my own mental record. So, in between shifts one day, I decided to try Plato Latino's sandwich, as they also claimed it was voted number 1 in Tampa. The Cuban Sandwich wasn't as delectable as some of the greasy, heavy options you can find in Tampa, but it has its place. The Cuban was simple, keeping the few usual ingredients you find in an authentic Cuban. It's a great option for a cheaper and less physically tolling meal. The price was fair for the size of the sandwich, if you're really hungry I would suggest getting a side with it. Lastly, the service was quick and the employees were polite. The two employees in view from the dining area were wearing masks, but I saw a cook come from the back with no face covering at all. If you're scared of the pandemic and specifically ordering from restaurants because of it, you may not want to order from here quite yet. read more

They had a special of chicken gizzards that looked tasty. I'm a frequent flyer at this delicious family owned cafe. They have incredible daily specials so every day is a surprise when you come in to see what's freshly made! My go-to is a baked chicken dinner they thankfully make every day. Their chicken is fall-off-the-bone and has never once been dry! You get to choose 2 sides when you get a dinner too! I'm a sucker for good soups & they have an excellent Spanish bean soup that isn't daily, but if it's there when you are, I highly recommend trying it. They offer tons of different types of sandwiches so you can definitely find one that tickles your fancy. ;D Personally, my favorite sandwich is their cubanito hot all the way (pulled pork sautéed fresh in hot sauce)...I get it just about every time I go LOL. I've heard their breakfast is incredible as well, but they open fairly late for breakfast so I've never been able to make it before work. One day I will!! Lastly, I have to mention how great the staff is here. I love a family owned business and the staff is always very attentive and friendly.
