Used to go here frequently. Went there is september and chicken was burnt. Went for thanksgiving with my family and we were very disappointed. Didn't feel like I was at a buffet, felt portion controlled. Turkey was unflavorful and mostly dark meat, dessert were small and not anywhere near as good as they used to me. After having 2 fantastic meals here, we decided to also host our wedding at Grill 37. Everything went seamlessly. It's been almost 2 years, and people still talk about how fantastic the food was - especially the prime rib. We've been back once more since then, and it didn't disappoint. My husband I went today for a late lunch with my parents. I haven't been since it was the Harvest. We had a great time. Waitress we had was very friendly. My father is very particular when he orders his food and the waitress was very sweet and smiled the whole time. What a gem! They didn't have the soap of the day they where in the process of making it but had 2 soaps to pick from. The salads were a good size and tasty. I had a chicken sandwich that was on the special menu. It was fabulous. Very tasty and juicy. Light batter with pesto and Italian ham. French fries to die for. My husband had the sliced sirloin sandwich also on the special menu. He was very happy with it. My mother had a salad with the salmon she ate it all. My father had what I would call a deconstructed chicken sandwich. Same item I ordered but he wanted it as a meal not a sandwich. He ordered the roasted potatoes in place of the French Fries and he thought they where fabulous! And he had a order of cabbage on the side. Which he wished it had less onions in it. My only complaint was the service was slow. But we enjoyed ourselves and I would love to try it for dinner sometime. read more

Given the widely mixed bag of one-star to five-star reviews, I'd guess there might be a consistency problem here. However, our first visit to Grill37 was excellent in most every way, with one exception which would usually be a deal-breaker for me. Since everything else was so good, I'm overlooking it -- our server forgot to bring out our salads, and they came out, apologetically, with our entrees. We hadn't even noticed as we enjoyed our app, so we didn't make a fuss. Still, she wound up comping us the salads, an entirely unnecessary but welcome gesture, especially considering they were menu items (Goat Cheese & Beet, and Wedge), not just little side salads. It was probably a good thing, because they were ample sized plates and after our app of delectable fried pickles, probably would have filled us up before the main course. I'm getting ahead of myself. First, the place is quite nice. The decor is very pleasant in a contemporary New Englandy sort of way. A couple of large dining rooms, with dark wood accents complimenting the light walls and nice selection of artwork. There is a large, inviting bar. A huge white banquet facility is adjacent the entranceway; this would be a wonderful place to hold a wedding reception or other special occasion. It all has a decidedly upscale feel. We arrived a tad early, but were certainly not alone. We were greeted quickly and presented with a handful of menus by a very gracious and friendly server. She took our drink order and we perused the specials and fairly extensive regular menu. The selection of apps is substantial and varied, not the usual selection of pub style offerings -- everything from Gyoza (Japanese dumplings) to grilled-in-the-shell oysters w/garlic, plus a couple of old standards like fried Mozzarella or calamari. We actually ordered some fried pickles off the daily specials menu, and they were wonderful, served with a spice aioli. A fairly predictable selection of salads is available, with grilled chicken, sirloin, salmon, shrimp or crab cakes available as add-ons. My "wedge" salad was not really a traditional wedge. It consisted of three generous slices of an iceberg lettuce head, covered in real blue cheese dressing with a generous topping of bacon pieces and tomato. Many restaurants charge an arm and leg for this very simple, cheap salad, but Grill37's was a steal at just $6. Our Roasted Beet & Fennel salad was also excellent, crisp and fresh. It's a shame that they didn't come out when they were supposed to, but they were so good that it really didn't matter. The menu is divided into sections for grill, "Off The Hook," "Flew The Coop," pasta, garden/vegetarian, and a whole page of specialty burgers and sandwiches. There truly is something for everyone on this menu, provided that everyone isn't looking for simple pub food. While many old standards are represented on the menu, most items show the creative side of the chef, with some delicious twists. For instance, I ordered the Flounder Francaise, which was absolutely incredible. A generous portion of tender, flakey fish sautéed perfectly in a light egg batter, with a lemon caper tomato guerre blanc, served on a bed of angel hair pasta. In was nothing short of exquisite, and I finished every last bite. Among the best I've had. My wife ordered the Montreal steak tips, which were prepared with sautéed mushrooms and a house made madera sauce, then topped with blue cheese and crispy fried onions. It was served with a side of mashed potatoes and, like my fish, was absolutely stellar. So, while a few appear to have had less than wonderful experiences here, we're not among them. Grill37 is one of those places that had us saying "How did we take so long to try this place?" Despite our wayward salads, everything else about the place, from decor to service, was as good as one could ask for in a dining experience. read more

I don't have anything bad to say about this place. I came on a double date and sat at a table in the back room of the restaurant. The calamari and fried mozz appetizers were a bit small for 4 people but still delicious. Plus bread and yummy oil to dip. I had wine and gnocchi a la vodka, while my date had a beer and rib eye steak. Both meals were a good portion and delicious. They did have a nice selection of holiday martinis and I saw a case with desserts but I did not try anything (this time!!). My favorite part was the ambience and adorable decorations, I almost thought this was a B&B when I first pulled up. They also had a beautiful function room decorated in white with a Christmas tree. Super cute place, same price you'd find elsewhere ($20-25 for the steak dish, $16 for the pasta), and prompt service. read more

I've been to this restaurant about 10 times. All in all, I am a fan. The salmon is quite good, with a nice outer crust. For some reason, every time I go there, I am asked if I have a reservation, and am made to feel bad for not having one, even though there are plenty of available tables. I don't often give a 1 star for a review, however, our experience was not as expected. We were excited to dine at grill 37 with some great friends. We arrived, the hostess was sweet and very pleasant, we were seated at our table and our waitress came to our table. From the time she arrived, all went down hill from there. The apps came and when we questioned about an ingredient in the beet goat cheese salad, she was defensive. The guys ordered drinks, took forever to get them, and the amenities we kept asking for such as ice were forever to arrive. Our meals came and they were all very bland. The waitress took awhile to come check on us. One person in our party sent hers back. All in all, the waitress needs more experience on hospitality especially when a guest questions about a meal. There are 2 rules in customer service: 1. The customer is always right. 2. Refer to rule #1. Deeply dissatisfied. Service was very dysfunctional. Waitress was not engaging at all! Very disappointed with our visit tonight. Food was good, service was excellent, but when we tried to pay with our visa prepaid gift card, we were told they weren't accepted. They are supposed to be taken everywhere visa is taken. There was also no signage stating that these cards were t accepted. We only ordered what we did because the dinner was a gift for our anniversary and then needed to end up using our own separate form of payment, luckily we had one on us. Very disappointed and ruined our evening since we were not planning or prepared to use a different payment. read more

I've been in the food business for a long time so I always have high expectations for a place like Grill37. Let me just say that I wasn't at all disappointed. Without having a reservation I was sure that we would have to wait for a table but to my surprise we didn't. It was a busy Saturday night but we still walked in to a great table next to a lovely fireplace. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable and we had our drinks almost immediately. We started our meal with a seared tuna appetizer. Presentation was spot on and the tuna was seared perfectly and served with a great Asian style slaw....off to a great start. My entree was a rack of lamb. I love lamb and usually order it if its available and this was exactly what I had wanted. I could've sat there and ate lamb all night long. My date had ordered a fish special that looked gorgeous. A perfectly cooked piece of fish served over white beans and roasted heirloom tomatoes. She loved it. I'm very much looking forward to returning to Grill37 and we're seriously considering having our wedding there. Some people say that Grill37 is overpriced and that simply isn't the case. If you want some mediocre food slung onto a plate there are plenty of other cheaper options in town but if presentation and execution are something you appreciate then by all means dine at Grill37. read more

This was my first time at Grill 37, and I was impressed to see that the restaurant was aimed toward a more affordable menu than the previous (The Harvest) yet still had maintained the quality of good cuisine. My friends and I were very pleased with our diverse selections of entrees, steak; curried vegetables and rice; and eggplant parmigiana. We all shared bites and were very happy with all three choices. The server was prompt and friendly and the prices were reasonable.I only wish I had had room for dessert, but will have to go back! read more

I took my mother out for her birthday and we both had a fabulous experience. My mother is a vegetarian and so often there isn't a lot of items to choose from on a typical menu but she was very pleasantly surprised by the options. She had the Aubergine over pasta and I had the whole Chilean Sea Bass with tomatoes and artichoke hearts (which was a special for the week). My fish was cooked to tender perfection and seasoned beautifully, and the artichokes and tomatoes with a light caper sauce was absolutely delicious. My mother was very happy with her entree as well (we did not get appetizers, although she had a house salad with which she was quite pleased with). Our server was friendly and attentive and the staff kept our water glasses full. The atmosphere was the perfect blend of old and new, being in an historic building but having a casual but contemporary feel to it. We felt like we were being treated to a nice meal without having to feel like it was pretentious and overwrought. And the prices were exceedingly reasonable. Having been to many other restaurants in the area I have to say the overall experience rated far above what I have come to expect from other establishments in nearby towns. I would highly recommend Grill 37 to any of my friends and acquaintances. read more

My boyfriend and I went for dinner last night and it was great! I started with the portobella fries and he had salmon chowder, both had a ton of flavor and were very tasty. We both got bacon cheese burgers and put bbq sauce on them. The burgers were perfectly cooked and were nice and juicy. I chose to get the sweet potato fries with mine.. which were the best I ever had- no lie! Super crispy and dressed with just the right amount of sea salt.. so yummy! They had 3 beers on tap but I was told they were getting more on tap next week- I will be back to try some more. Other menu items were steaks and seafood. Prices were about average. We sat at the bar which had a big flat screen tv behind it playing the news but the bar tender told us we could change it. Will definitely be back! read more

I was recently at Grill37 with a large group. The staff were friendly and professional. The food was served buffet-style, with the staff serving from the warming trays. The food was not dry or overcooked, as some food can be when being served to large groups. I thought it a little odd that they served mashed sweet potatoes and roasted sweet potatoes. It would have been nice if there was either a different dessert offered or a choice between two desserts, as carrot cake is not always for everyone. read more

My office is located near Grill37 and since I started work last Spring I've been looking forward to trying it. Ummm. I feel generous giving two stars. My boss and I headed for drinks after work. We were "greeted" in the crowded lounge/bar area by an older woman who barked "do you have a reservation?", like we are at some sought after culinary destination. Um, no, we don't, because we just want to grab a cocktail or two after a long week. No seats at the bar so we were standing there trying in vain to make eye contact with a bartender. Waiting. Waiting. Tick tock. Even the patrons at the bar weren't that friendly. (And there was a 5 year old (approx) girl sitting on her mother's lap on a bar stool). Looked weird. We finally flagged down the bartender and ordered two grill 37 martinis. Those were decent, but still pretty basic. We asked the bartender if we could sit at one of the small bar tables and order an app. He had to check with the cranky older woman and we got the green light. As we were sitting down, another cranky older woman barked--"did you check and make sure this table isn't reserved??" Um yes. At this point, i know I'm basically never coming to this place again. We ended up ordering two apps, the lobster Rangoon, which was frozen, fried, and stuffed with a fishy blend that I guess was supposed to be lobster. Gross. We said to each other, "ew--this is nasty". We also ordered the pesto flatbread which would have been fine if it weren't room temperature. Totally microwaved food. Yuck. This place is dated, dirty and nothing to seek out. There are some other places in Putnam and Woodstock that are much more enjoyable. I have to drive by this place every night and I'm always going to remember what a unpleasant experience it was. Basically giving the stars for the martini and cute country exterior of the building. Everything else was yuck. And it's not cheap. I'd recommend seeking out other, better venues for drinks and good bar food. read more

my gent and i had dinner here last night, and had a great experience. i had made a reservation for a table, but when we arrived around 6:30, there were two open spots at the bar, so we actually opted to sit there. i'm so glad we did because our bartender was wonderfully attentive and polite. he provided one of our best bar dining experiences we've ever had, actually. for food, we got the scallops with peaches appetizer from the regular menu (there was also a different scallop app on the specials menu). while there were some great flavors to this dish, i feel like the execution was a little clunky. the scallops were only seared on one side, and the amount of peach sauce was a little excessive. the mixed greens on the bottom were kind of drowned, and the peach flavor overwhelmed the bacon and the scallops. (additionally- a diner next to us ordered the same appetizer and received an entirely different plate. there were peaches, but there was hardly any sauce. we were right next to him, and he did not order it modified, so i'm unsure how consistently the dishes are prepared overall...) my gent got a special, the chicken parmesan. it was a hearty portion, and he was very pleased with the flavor, but the angel hair pasta it was supposed to be served with (which is his preference for pasta shape) was decidedly spaghetti. not a big deal, but i think he would have rather been given a heads up that they were out of cappellini, instead of the appearance of spaghetti without an explanation. i got a cup of one of their daily soups, a beer cheese soup. it was absolutely heavenly. the texture was thick and rich, and the heavy addition of chopped onions lent a welcome flavor. i also got the au poivre burger and requested it to be cooked as rare as possible. it was. i was a VERY happy lady. i could have used more of the au poivre sauce itself, as well as more of the pepper & cognac flavors, but it was still pretty tasty. i substituted cole slaw for the french fries; it had great crunch and texture, but it needed a little help in the flavor department. there was too much dressing, and it lacked acidity and bite to help balance the richness and sweetness.. we did not get dessert, though i overheard that they have an in-house pastry chef, and the dessert case did look appealing. we're moving out of state in literally a week, so we will not likely be back, but if you are in the area, i do think this is a spot you should visit. the ambience is great, and the live music was a perfect addition to the atmosphere. service (not just ours) appears to be attentive, and the food really was largely good. read more

This is a good choice if you're in the area. We were staying at the Inn at Woodstock Hill while attending Brimfield flea market. We were looking for a close spot for dinner and found Grill37. It was a Thursday and was semi crowded when we arrived, but filled up as the evening progressed. We sat at the bar (which we often do for a more casual/fun experience) and the bartender was great. She was a hustler as she was servicing a full bar, full bar seating and all the servers drinks. She never appeared frazzled or rushed a decision though! I ordered the Kay's Herbal Sunshine Martini and it was refreshing and delicious! I later ordered a hot and dirty martini and though she had never made one she was willing to ask the ingredients and probably made the best one I've ever had! We ordered oysters and edamame to start. The oysters were pretty good. The edamame kind of tasted like it came from a freezer bag but not terrible. For our meal, we both ordered steaks (black and blue & the baseball). Both steaks came out cooked properly but were very chewy. I don't know if they had a bad delivery or if this is commonplace, but I'd avoid the steak. Unfortunately, they were out of pods to make espresso and cappuccino (which was probably a blessing since it came from a pod), so we skipped dessert. I give the 4 star rating based on the great service and the hope that it was an off night for steaks. read more

I am not one to complain I have pretty low expectations when going anywhere. But as a bride on her wedding day I expected more. My husband and I were initially going to go to Michael Jordans in Mohegan just us two after our wedding to celebrate. My mother in law instead suggested grill 37 "nicer cheaper dining" "amazing food" I had never been before but she's usually a great judge so I trusted her judgement. I read reviews prior to my wedding via Yelp. When some said slow service I didn't realize just how slow. We were a party of eh 20 we were assigned one yes only one waitress. Don't get me wrong she was so friendly and you could tell she was doing her very best. But she couldn't fix what was going on in the kitchen. 4 hours we were here...one hour waiting just for apps. The apps were all delicious well worth the wait. However entrees were completely different. Not only was the bride and groom not served first. You guys cooked my husband's shrimp to hell along with my stepdad father's shrimp. You charged 8 for barley edible garbage. And when it was mentioned BY THE GROOM your waitress only apologized....I was dumbfounded and absolutely embarrassed that my husband had rubbery garbage on his wedding day. I was utterly embarrassed and shamed when I had to listen to all my guests complain about it taking 2.5 hours after being sat for entrees. The wine was good, the drinks were good, the apps good, entrees awful and slopped together. I asked for my maderia sauce on the side and it was slathered all over my $26 ribeye. The ribeye was tough what a disgrace to have my mother-in-law fit the bill for it. The veranda was lovely I just wish your "chef" knew how to cook. Probably some guy pulled in off the streets. My step dad is a professional chef so I am aware of proper cooking. For a "Upscale" venue this place missed the mark big time. Just because we are a large party doesn't mean that you let us wait hours for food. Grill 37 ruined my wedding day I said nothing at the time because it was my wedding and I just wanted to enjoy my husband. Again discrase to have a groom eat shrimp cooked to hell and not even care to offer a refire for him. Went with the wife on a Tuesday night. The restaurant looks really nice, inside and out. We were seated right away but the service was pretty bad. Waitress didn't come over for at least 10 minutes. Add another 15 minutes to get drinks. Our pork gyoza appetizer came out about 30 minutes later and was on par with something you'd get out of the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. They had obviously frozen, poorly thawed out and hastily prepared. After about 1 hour from putting the order in, out entrees came out. I had the half rack of lamb with potatoes and squash, which was ok but not justified by the $30 price tag. My wife had ahi tuna tacos that were also hastily prepared. Our waitress barely came by at all to our table and the other tables in our area. The section of the restaurant we sat in had 8' ceilings which made it quite loud with a boisterous table nearby. All in all, the bill was $90, before tip, and took us almost 2 hours to get in and out of - on a Tuesday night. I'm guessing it was an off night there, but I'm not willing to give it another shot any time soon. Nice presentation but poor execution. read more

We went with Eggs Benedict, and the Seacake Career Salad. We can not wait to return for dinner one evening soon. My husband and I dined here tonight. It was excellent. We made reservations for a 5 o'clock seating on a Saturday night. We were shown to our table by a friendly hostess and introduced to our wait staff, Danny. We ordered beer (2) for my husband and seltzer for myself. Danny brought our drinks and four pieces of delicious focaccia bread and tasty herbed olive oil. We ordered a tossed salad with a golden balsamic dressing. The salads were large,fresh and included tiny pear shaped yellow tomatoes. Delightful with the dressing. We ordered the sirloin and rib eye steaks with roasted potatoes and sautéed kale. Both steaks were prepared well and vegetables were great accompaniments. Our bill was @$74 plus a 20% tip. We will definitely go back again. Great food, friendly efficient staff. read more

Poor customer service. Place basically deserted yet they sit you way in the back near some door and ac blasting under that table. Asked to be reseated but brought a piece of wood to cover ac which didn't help. Asked to be moved so was moved to a table next to a closet. Did I mention about 50 employ tables?!?!?
