Another one of these places that I have to try one day. Friday night and we wanted to go a little upscale from pizza and grinder night, and to be honest, I wanted a good steak. Made reservations for 6 pm and arrived a little before, but was seated right away. When reservations were made, I had my choice of inside or outside, and due to the evening getting cool fast, took inside. Walk to the dining area, and it's pleasant to see a non-corporate cookie cutter place. Was very unique inside, and a relaxing feel to the place. Some may find it a little dark in here, but no big deal. Just a piece of advice: if you get cold easily, you may want to take a sweater or something because it was a tad cool inside. Waitress came over greeted us and asked for drink orders. We decided to just order the entree and for go the appetizers, but I have to admit, I really wanted to try either their French onion soup, or their Dutch onion soup. I ordered the ribeye and the wife ordered the prime rib, both medium rare. Steaks came out together, with in 15 to 20 minutes after ordering, hot and both served with garlic mashed potatoes and young string beans. Both were perfect medium rare, and my wife said there was a tad bit more fat on her prime rib for her taste, looked ok to me. Both cuts were very tender and had an excellent taste. Potatoes were hot with a not overpowering garlic taste, and the beans were crisp and tender. The great thing, to me, was no bread or rolls were served, which I didn't miss, and allowed us to enjoy and finish our entrees. No salads came with be meal, but that's ok, because the veggies that came with the meal were a treat. I wish Yelp would let us use 1/2 stars because the price range should be 2 and a half, not two, slightly in the middle but not too bad. No dessert for me but wife ordered a pumpkin cream boule' and that was delicious. Would go here again to try other menu items. When exiting we went by the outside seating, which looked full, along with entertainment. Maybe when the nights are nice and warm. This restaurant was one of my favorites when we first moved to Connecticut. Not so much lately. When we first started eating here the food was good and the service great. After a year they stopped serving the great tasty bread and started serving a horrible flat bread that was salty and hard. There food and service went down hill also. Then recently they stopped serving bread al together, when I asked about bread our server said she does not serve bread. The food is not what it was either. Scheduled my sons wedding rehearsal dinner and was told We would have a private room with private bar/ bartender. When we arrived we had no private bar or bartender, so we had 35 people waiting at the public bar waiting for drinks. As I asked the manager what the problem was, she then informed me that they didn't have anyone to man the private bar. No notice of this prior to us arriving, and no apology or offer of retribution. This is a nice steakhouse. The first time or two that I went to eat at this restaurant I wasn't overly impressed yet we ate their tonight and it was really good. Service was great, the salad looked and tasted wonderful, we had the chicken parm which was prepared perfectly, the chocolate creme brûlée was well done, we will return and explore more of the menu. I went yesterday and had the fish taco special. It was a long wait for food. The flat bread brought to the table was excellent. The food came to table. It was hot and lots of fish. Unfortunately the cilantro dressing on the side was flavorless (maybe buttery)and texture of congealed mayonnaise. There was a sprinkle of pickled cabbage but barely enough to taste and the avocado was a misshaped clump on top. The rice and bean also flavorless. For $22 this was a real let down and overpriced for something of extremely poor quality. read more

Our dinner tonight the worst ever. The server John was fantastic so don't think I put any blame on him please. Outside dining should've been perfect tonight. But the deck is pretty much a worn out mess, and really of need of help soon. We ordered appetizers that included their Crab cakes and Calamari. The Calamari might have been the worst I've ever had. It was both small and completely tasteless. The Crab cakes were OK I guess, but wasn't necessarily sure what it was we were eating. It only got worse. The two variations of Rib eye that my wife and I got was an absolute disgrace.. I wouldn't complain or say anything bad about the place if I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. It's too bad, because my expectations were for this place were high after the couple of burgers we got that one lunch... Clearly dinner is not this places "forte". It was my birthday dinner after all. This place sucks. Trust me. 90 minutes and 130 dollars later plus tip. 160 dollars total. Don't waste your money. read more

We found ourselves needing a place for Thanksgiving dinner at the last minute for my wife, son, his girlfriend and I. Running into a local acquaintance we were referred to Grill 37, whom I called immediately and discovered that they still had some openings available for Turkey day. We arrived 30 mins early and were promptly seated by a friendly hostess. Our waitress was juggling several tables and took a few minutes to get to us, but well within an accommodating time frame. Dinner was buffet style and I was pleasantly surprised. Simple garden salad of mixed greens and cherry tomatoes. Roasted veggies, green bean casserole, butternut squash, veggie lasagna, all nicely seasoned but not quite hot enough. By the time I got to the brussels sprouts they were at room temp and cooling fast. the main dishes of stuffed sole, braised sirloin and turkey were also well received at the table. I was not able to enjoy the sirloin as they ran out, but the sole was cooked nicely, the stuffing well flavored and not dry. They had both white and dark meat off the bird and it was tender and moist. The gravy and cranberry sauce a perfect match. The real star of the meal was our waitress, I have since forgotten her name but the woman was a pleasure. We never had to look for her, wave her down or send someone to find her. If a glass was empty she asked if a refill or change in beverage was in order and was prompt in picking up the empty plates. Her welcoming personality made us feel 'at home' for the holiday meal and it was mentioned by all at our table that her service made the difference in making a mediocre experience a positive one. I give Grill 37 three stars, because for a $200+ meal for four, the food should be hot, everything should be available and the service friendly/welcoming. The food was good, but not hot. Many of the side dishes and one of the main courses ran out before we got through the buffet the first time, but the service was excellent. This is a borderline 4-star review. My wife and I have decided to return for another meal, taking an earlier seating time, to compare the experience. I am a true believer that you can get a great meal for a decent price and this just wasn't a 'great' meal. A-OK describes it perfectly. Can I give negative stars? My wife and I arrived a little before 5 pm on a Saturday, the place was not crowded. An older woman hostess asked my wife if we had reservations. We did not and she grumbled under her breath and then grabbed some menus and said , "this way". We were led to a small room off the bar area. I guess we were being punished for not having a reservation because we were sent to Siberia. It was so cold and drafty in that room we kept our coats on and were still cold. Our waitress came over while we were looking over the drink menu. Seeing that she took off and said I'll come back when you decide. Well 15 min later she returned. She not only wanted to take our drink order but our meals as well although I had not decided on a meal. Good thing we ordered our soup and meal then because it took over an hour to get our meals. The soups came fairly soon although I was served the wrong soup. Didn't realize it until a few bites in. Was never offered the correct soup. Then in the middle of our meal the same hostess came around the tables asking people if they owned a car with a registration she had written down. It turned out to be mine and she said was blocking in another car. I know when I parked I was not blocking the car in front of me. I had to get up from my meal, mouth full of food to go outside. It turned out some idiot had parked in from of the car in front of mine blocking him in. The parking lot has no defined parking so this must happen all the time. The food was pricey and nothing special. $25 for a piece of cod, two small scallops and two small shrimp served with rice pilaf and kale, yuck! The only reason this place is busy is because there is nothing else in the area. Don't waste your time and money. read more

Ultimately we had good food and a good time but patience is required. Seated in the lounge due to large parties taking up room and attention at the rambling old tavern house at junction of 44 and 97. Had a clear view of open kitchen and hostess stand so I now have a better take on the problem. This is a well known popular area steakhouse replacing the upscale Harvest restaurant. Steak dishes were uniformly well cooked and tasty as was the grilled Caesar salad and huge fennel beet salad. Both of our seafood lovers liked the salmon and crusted flounder. But there were some real problems. Seated at 655 it was 725 before drinks arrived at table as one bartender handled the restaurant and lounge. Waitresses were begging for their order. It was full hour before a bread basket appeared. cheese platter was straight out of a grocery store with triscuits and orange cheddar. In the middle of a hundred farms and we can't get some local cheese and a more creative accompaniment than an out of season strawberry? Thereafter our very professional waitress Jenny pushed the kitchen for the entrees, quickly got us wine and all was well. I think from our vantage point although adequately staffed the kitchen seemed in low gear and no one expedited anything. The owner/hostesses did nothing beyond seating people. Never helped staff or checked on us and didn't say a word as we left We enjoyed the music and the food was solid but it's a 35 minute ride for us and not sure we will race back. But if you're out that way and will wait for a solid meal, you're fine here. This just could be a lot better! read more

If I could give negative stars for tonight I would. This was insane. Before I go into the worst of it, our water runner, Olivia, was amazing and should be promoted to waitress and probably manager too because she understands Customer service and is timely and super pleasant. With that said we had a 6pm reservation for the outdoor seating and our waitress was Jennifer. I can't even begin to explain how awful this service was. I always give 20% regardless of service and today hurt my soul because we actually tipped our water girl and left a 0 tip on a 433$ check. It was so awful. Every time we ordered drinks it took no lie 30 minutes and multiple reminders and we would walk by the bar and they would be sitting there for twenty minutes. another larger party had the same issues and eventually the manager came out and didn't even introduce w herself and aggressively was asking us what we ordered for drinks and acting like we were the issue. After and hour and a half of waiting for our entrees I asked the waitress how long our food would be and she looked at me with the most insane face and said "I put it in when you ordered so I'll have to check" really?! Cause we ordered over an hour and twenty minutes ago. The manager had to bring us out drinks on multiple Occasions and was extremely abrasive also and stated she "had never heard that about Jennifer" and she wasn't sure where the night went wrong after we went over the entire night multiple Times With her. Long story short, the food was cold. The drinks took so long to Come and I wasn't even slightly tipsy after three dirty martinis which is unacceptable and I'm not sure if it's just an issue of being sat outside or the waitress was just extremely loopy or idk wtf the excuse was but the entire experience was inexcusable and avoid this place at all costs. My daughter had a small intimate wedding at Grill37. Deb and Ian catered to every request my daughter, family or guest had. They allowed us to decorate the gazebo they way she wanted, the dining room was setup lovely, the appetizer and the food were delicious. Beautiful setting in an old building with several separate dining areas. We sat in the bar section. We had the Sunday brunch. It was busy but the waitstaff was wonderful and food came out quickly. Several vegetarian options. I had the vegetable stir fry. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal: monte Cristo and burrito. We drove an hour to eat here and felt it was worth the drive. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this place. WOW, were we happy. We sat at the bar and were able to watch the Kentucky Derby. Both of our dinners were very good. My man and I finally were able to try this place out since we moved into the area. We went at 8pm on Friday night and we were sat right away in a side small room in front of the lovely fireplace. I read the other reviews that the food was good but not the service. I beg to different. They were both good! We started with 3 appetizers. The fig and procuttio flatbread, Danish onion soup and the lobster rangoon. He absolutely love the lobster rangoon and I loved the flatbread. The Danish onion soup we never had before and it was delicious! For my main course I had the zucchini spaghetti. I am by no means a vegetarian, but this was so yummy!! He had the chicken saltenboca which was good but it wasn't his favorite because it had a ton of sage on it. All in all reasonably price and the food/service was great! I received a gift card to Grill 37 for my birthday, it's an hour drive, and it was totally worth it. It was early on a Wednesday evening so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. We were sat in a room next to the bar there were a couple people enjoying some libations and a family came in after us, a couple was leaving just as we were seated. The interior was elegantly rustic. Our server was bubbly and enthusiastic and her timing was right on point. We ordered the bacon wrapped figs, which personally I feel are better then a box of chocolates, and Danish onion soup to start. The soup has so much depth of flavor from the broth to the cheese it all blends perfectly. For our entrees we chose the herb crusted salmon and sirloin steak. Both good choices, no complaints. It was so good we actually got dessert, an option we usually pass up. White chocolate raspberry creme brûlée. The caramelized sugar on top was thin and crispy and the custard itself smooth as silk. Bottom line we would go back, even if it's just for the Danish onion soup and a glass of wine. read more

Tonight, my birthday celebration with myself and my fiancée, we were placed in a corner. Very busy night as well, but this has never been an issue in the past. Service was poor to begin with. This restaurant is phenomenal. The bread basket is crunchy and tasty served with balsamic vinegar. The salads were wonderful. My husband had the wedge and I had the spinach salad hold the bacon (as a vegan). It was magical. It came with roasted candied pecans and crunchy fried onions. The flavor and texture combination is through the roof. For the entree my husband ordered the steak tips jack daniels. He said they were the best, most tender tips he has ever had. They were of quality of a filet. I ordered linguini with roasted tomatoes in white wine from the specials menu. Also wonderful. We cannot wait to come back. We are visiting from out of town and it was our second visit. Definitely a favorite!!!! read more

Very warm welcoming atmosphere, my bartender Burt was great! Per his recommendation I ordered the gnocci with sirloin that was grilled to a perfect temperature, they also have a really decent assortment of Irish whiskeys and Bourbons. All of my food temperatures were spot-on and the presentation was all 5 star. Came recently for a banquet and heard good things about the food. The buffet looked good. Most of it was cold. We had chicken with cranberries and it was too sweet. The fish tasted way too fishy. Potato's were good...pasta primavera was extremely bland. Prime rib was cold, flopped on top of my other food, and no au ju in sight. It was also super pink with no options of darker pieces. The coffee tasted like water. Sangria was good, appetizers were good, and the bar options were good. I can't complain about the waitstaff or bartenders as they were friendly and did their job well. The room was freezing but it looked beautiful. I sure hope the regular restaurant food is more enjoyable. Not sure I'm willing to find out unfortunately. read more

I love walking into any business and receiving a warm and friendly greeting, this was the case from the hostess to the wait staff. Friendly and prompt service! Atmosphere is the perfect combination of traditional and contemporary. Food was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. We had the cod and scallop dish and the gnocchi, I would highly recommend both. My husband and I enjoy eating out and do so often so our expectations are set pretty high.....Grill 37 met all of them! read more

The inside of the restaurant is full of dark wood and dim light. There's a bar that wraps the length of the main dining area. They have a few beers on tap, black hog for example. I had white wine. My friend had a glass of sangria. She also ordered lobster rangoon appetizer as her meal. The hostess was kind enough to let me charge my phone from a plug on the side of the bar. The bartender was responsible to tables on the floor as well as us at the bar. She didn't come by too much but she was nice enough. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich. It had coleslaw on top which was a good dash of sweetness and crunch. They have a raw bar but I didn't try anything from it. The Yelp entry says 3 dollar signs but we didn't pay more than $25 each. On another note, there's a large banquet room towards the back of the building but I was put off by how thematically different that room is. It's bright and white with large windows. The service is always the best and food always high quality and tonight was no exception. I find that I forget to give credit where it's due... Despite riding by this restaurant for years I went for the first time this past Sunday morning.For the most part I enjoyed the experience but found a number of contradicting factors which will be shared along with my experience. First, the outside of the building land grounds looks country side formal but inside while the porch rooms were formal some of the rooms as in the lounge and front dining room were rustic and laced ambiance . Second, the restaurant was extremely clean throughout but I thought the lounge and dish ware seemed dated (think late 1980s/1990s). Third, the coffee and my omelet was great but the packaged home fires were hard and chewy. Concerning my experience, the friendly hostess asked and offered me a table by the fire place in the open lounge. Unfortunately, the lounge where I was seated was much cooler than the well heated nearby empty dining room. After an equally attentive and friendly server took my order. The brunch menu is limited but well planned. My only suggestion would be to offer a low carb side like a small salad in place of the home fries which would be appreciated. The food came out quickly The omelet was golden/ brown and hot but the potatoes were hard and chewy.. I did mention this to the server who was apologetic but seem to be at a lost to rectify the situation The coffee was very good medium roast and was refilled often. I was cheerfully acknowledged by all upon leaving. i would probly give a three and a half stars but the kind staff pushed my review to 4 stars. read more
