Bacon Mac & cheese with garlic bread. Hubs was VERY happy with all of it
    Lori F.

Tonight was Chicken Parmesan with pasta and garlic bread. This was tasty! I LOVE that they pounded out the chicken to make it thin, the breading was delightfully crispy and cheese.. I loveeeee cheese and this was TOPPED. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce tasty, if I was being particular I would wish for the sauce to be not as watery/loose. The garlic bread was nicely seasoned and I chomped that all down Our waitress, who I didn't catch her name, was very attentive and super nice personality. Really, any time we've gone in everyone is always nice. It's also nice to have non sticky tables and clean bathrooms. They allow you to choose 3 free books per person from shelves that line the dining room. Each of tonight found books that were interesting and donated a handful of books to them. I really like that they do this, it's probably going on 30 yrs since I first stopped in and am happy they've kept this going. I would like to mention also, I'm super grateful with prices changing regarding food costs, they have completely made it worthwhile in the servings they give. I almost always go home with a take away box, tonight including.

This was our first time here. We found out looking for a spot on the way to MA . I ordered the raven. It was really good. I believe my buddy order the red badge of courage. He said it was really good. This place is so cool. There are books everywhere. Looks like you can purchase different sets of books and it sounds like there were books downstairs as well. We definitely plan to come back when we have some more time so we can explore the place in general and try out different foods. Some of the foods are named after books. The staff was very nice as well.

We went for lunch time. The restaurant was cozy, and unique. Books neatly arranged around the restaurant. It was like eating in a library but able to eat and talk! As a book lover, I loved the place! The food was delicious! We ordered the bang bang Shrimp and the Oscar Wilde Chicken sandwich. The food was fresh, hot and delicious! Our server Angela was great. For dessert we shared the Apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. After you get to choose up to 2 books to take home for free. Great place to stop after a long motorcycle ride with the hubby. Definitely recommend.

I've lived in CT my whole life and don't know why I haven't even here before. The food was delicious and the service friendly. The 3 free books were a nice bonus!! Will definitely be back.

Very nice people that runs the restaurant

Great place to stop off for breakfast and lunch I ordered the fisherman's platers the only thing they forgot was the coleslaw plus they give you the chose Of three books for free to take home

I have been to this restaurant before. A long long time ago when I lived "back east". The food was great. I only wanted something light so the clam chowder and a salad. The down side was that we sat there for about 15-20 mins before any wait staff even noticed we were there. But I will say they were pretty busy so it is understandable. The location is easy on/off from the freeway. Inside you walk in and there are books everywhere. Start perusing because you get to take one with your meal! There is a PAID bookstore down stairs

Great food for the money. At least a full half pound of meat in the burger. Cooked perfectly. Super friendly staff. You get free books with each purchase. Books are donated so when you go consider taking some books. They also have puzzles, shirts and some books for sale. Go and enjoy.

The cheese sauce was a bit runny making it hard to eat politely. We had a steak and cheese and a turkey sandwich, both with house chips. The water there tasted awful, we did have to order bottled. They should probably consider a filtration system. Before I came I thought this was a high end place but upon arrival realized it's quite casual. We were in the downstairs bar, I understand there is an upstairs so maybe that is fancier? Either way it's super laid back. I will say the bathroom near the bar need an update. It was not just dirty, it was run down and ragged. Our lunch /drinks for 2 was $180 with tip and I would expect a decent bathroom and drinkable water for that level of restaurant pricing.

The key was the savory broth and three types of onion. Cheese (Gruyère) and large croutons completed this delicious soup. My wife and I also had small Caesar salads, mind with added anchovies, and these were also great. We were there on Memorial Day (Monday) and it was really quiet, but I can imagine it would be crowded on weekends.

(Compared to The Oliver Wright Tavern which is outside the admission gates). There is a self service cafeteria type establishment in the basement. Today we ate in the first floor restaurant. We had attended MidWinter Mischief and dinner was included. It was a soup buffet - choice of Clam Chowder, Beef Stew or Tomato Vegetable. Westminster crackers. Flaky biscuits. Apple or Pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream for dessert. The waitstaff were in character. Fortunately the food was not! There were long family style tables in the center of the room. Assorted deuces and four tops along the sides. Since we were a party of 7, we were seated in the center with strangers. I kinda felt bad for the people who had to listen to us over dinner.

All tables were unwashed, filthy and disgusting! The Rest Rooms were filthy, disgusting and nasty! They have write ups about Covid all over the place, on their website and some staff are still wearing masks yet they don't bother to clean and sanitize the bathrooms! NASTY! The Village is nice, houses are interesting, and employees other than in Ballard's Tavern were all very nice. We will go back to Old Sturbridge Village when in the area again but we will bring our own lunch or go down the road to Panera for a fresh, healthy lunch. Could even have Panera deliver to our car in the parking lot and eat under a tree in the shade. Hopefully others taking their families to the village will see this review and plan ahead to bring food and drinks with them so they are not ripped off with gross food and overpriced drinks.

Just a little a this 'n that" (Pete Seeger) My final review of 2022 will describe the worst customer service we encountered all year. We had an errand to run in Sturbridge and figured we'd include a lunch stop in town. The Yelp app brought us to Soup to Nuts. #1) I love soup and #2) it's located inside the Sturbridge Marketplace, so we figured we'd do some shopping and browsing too. When we approached Soup to Nuts we saw a sign that said they opened at 11:00. The front door had another sign that said they opened at 12:00. Since the door was locked, and it was about 11:30, we figured we'd check out the Sturbridge Flea Market and come back. At 12:02 their front door was unlocked, and the sign announcing the 12:00 opening was gone. As we entered the restaurant, we were "greeted" by four words spoken (or more accurately snarled) in a very gruff and rude manner - "we're not open yet". Tone of voice matters, and I will look you straight in the eye and put my hand on a stack of bibles and tell you his tone was beligerant and angry (to the point of aggressive). It was beyond rude. It was shocking. So we turned around, left and never came back. Happy New Year ya filthy animal.

I will say that on our first visit we thought the owner was initially a bit gruff as others had mentioned but we quickly realized that's not the case and he is an incredibly gracious host. "Polk Salad Annie Gators got your granny"…read more(Elvis Presley) We found Annie's on Main Street in Sturbridge, just look for their big sign in the parking lot. Speaking of parking, there are plenty of spots in the parking lot where the restaurant is located. Annie's is a family-owned breakfast and lunch spot, opening at 7am and closing at 12 or 1 every day. You'll find just about any breakfast or lunch comfort food here, so even the pickiest eater in your party will find plenty of options. Their menu has a few interesting choices, like three different "Egg White Mixers" that combines vegetables or baked ham with scrambled egg whites and toast. We also were impressed with the Family Style Meals for four or six. We stopped for breakfast on Saturday and were seated right away by Paige. She was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. My wife's breakfast order was a 4-egg Cheese Omelet ($9.50) served with Annie's Home Fries and choice of toast. I went for one of those Egg White Mixers ($8.25) and chose the Veggie with onions, peppers, and tomatoes, It was also served with Annie's Home Fries and choice of toast. I couldn't resist when I saw the magic words "Corned Beef Hash" on their menu, so I also asked for a side of their Fresh Homemade Corned Beef Hash ($7.25). My breakfast was fantastic, and that corned beef hash was loaded with lean shredded corned beef. Two Negatives 1) Have you ever been charged extra for hot sauce? Well, sadly Annie's charges $1 for those tiny plastic containers of hot sauce. 2) Coffee is a pretty important breakfast component, right? When I spend $4 for a coffee, I expect the coffee to be very good. Truth be told, Annie's coffee was terrible; it was incredibly weak and flavorless.
