2 people in the party of 4 ordered scallops. In both dishes the scallops were overcooked, having a dark leathery-like surface. Though I had thoroughly the fish and chips years earlier, this portion was smaller and greasier. Although I had specifically requested that the fries be served very hot, they seemed as though they had been sitting for a bit; simple request gone bad. The dessert was decent. read more

Lovely ambiance and even better food. I opted to sit on the left, away from the bar and it had a nice, upscale cabin vibe. I had a view of the immaculate kitchen, where I watched the chef work his magic with my meal. I'm dairy-free and my waitress kindly checked out the suitability of two options. Highly recommend the cod and they made the dairy-free potatoes pictured especially for me, as the featured potatoes contained real butter. These were also probably the best green beans I've ever had in my life. read more

We went here to dinner last night for the first time. The service was very good. The food was excellent. We had calamari for an appetizer. I had the salmon. My friend had the fish and chips. His wife had clams. We had another seafood plate. We will most certainly be back. The atmosphere was also fantastic. read more

Food was really good other than the scallop being burnt on one side and translucent but was well enough to eat. Service was great our waitress was kind and professional. Ambiance Laid back even though it was 3/4 full. Cost was up there though that's why the 4 of 5 stars. $149 for 4 read more

Food was great and service amazing. Will be return customers when we come back to Sturbridge.

The food for the most part was really good. 2 people in my group (including myself) got the bacon crusted cod and it was delicious. The scallops were okay and the swordfish was dry. The service was terrible. Our waitress was nice, but it took over an hour for the food to come out and she only checked in once during that time frame. We also sent back the swordfish because it was so dry and they didn't offer to comp it or anything even when the second one was still dry. Probably won't go back based on the service, which is a shame because my food was really good. read more

They are our go to place for any special occasion. Their staff is friendly and always accommodating. They don't rush you and the food is amazing. We love the power tower, calamari, and chowder fries for appetizers. My favorite salad is the apple gorgonzola. My husband's favorite salad is the fried goat cheese. I love when they have the tuna and it's always cooked perfectly. My mother's favorites are the bacon wrapped cod and the salmon. Truly everything we've ever tried has been delicious and beautifully presented. We will be there tomorrow for my mother's 80th birthday. read more

I think the appetizers were better than the main meal. Drinks were delicious and dessert was great. The service was fabulous. Make sure to make a reservation! We sat at the bar, still a nice atmosphere!!! read more

Mother's Day take out - crazy busy, as expected. Shrimp cocktail waterlogged, and they ignored the extra crackers for chowder - though I offered to pay extra. The fried scallops truly perfect!! Still crispy and succulent. Not sure how they achieve that on takeout fried food, but kudos! read more

I visited this restaurant and sat at the bar. It was on a Thursday night and they had a fairly full house. I was able to sit down immediately though. The beer selection is good with some nice local and non-local craft beers. For me being in Massachusetts meant that I had to order clam chowder. This version did not disappoint. It had a couple of different ingredients in it that still allowed it to remain very authentic, but gave it just enough difference to make it unique, very tasty and I would recommend it. The grilled shrimp were very large nice size they were cooked properly and the preparation was delicious. My only little criticism was the amount of olive oil that they left or put in the bottom of the plate. It did ruin the bread. That being said, I would just order it without the olive oil next time inside the restaurant is nice and reminds you of a typical Massachusetts style fish house. The staff was attentive and worked in teams to get things out quickly. read more

Solid seafood place, thanks to Yelp for leading us here. We had the crab claws with mix of veggies and sausages sprinkled with old bay. Pretty tasty and filling. Also the salmon with mustard glaze was good. We saw others having ginormous fish and chips, if you like that. Very good fresh and plentiful seafood place, was surprised. read more

We just had a wonderful lunch on our way to Boston. The clam chowder was delicious, shrimp, leeks and crostini appetizer was terrific, light but just wonderful. We were told that this was the place to go for awesome seafood so we gave it a try on a Thursday night. We were seated on the bar side where there were 4 parties already served. We quickly were greeted and served drinks. We ordered fish and chips and fried scallops. Our food came out quick. The fish and chips were a generous portion. However the coating was really thick and just too much for me. Unfortunately the fries were a soggy mess under the fish. The scallops were served on an identical pile of soggy fries. There were 7 good sized scallops but unfortunately they were chewy. Bottom line, overpriced for mediocre food. read more

Thanksgiving is ONE week away and I am feeling GRATEFUL!! Can we take a moment to appreciate just how lucky we are to live in a town with such incredible restaurants? Each one offers something unique, making it nearly impossible to pick a favorite! That said, I want to give a special shoutout to Sturbridge Seafood. The flavors, the care in every dish, and the welcoming atmosphere never fail to impress. If you haven't tried it yet, you're in for a treat--whether it's their fresh seafood, creative specials, or a perfectly crafted cocktail -the lemon meringue meringue martini!!! Made dinner reservations last night for 5:30 but we arrived about 10 minutes early There was a family of 3 ahead of us that had no reservations but seated almost immediately When I told the hostess my name they seemed to think I was already there seated The 2 girls were tapping on the tablet looking for who knows what and offered us a menu to look at as she said we'd have to wait Mind you there were at least 5 empty tables So we left and I can assure you we will never return. For the prices you charge here's a thought DO BETTER We did eat here once in the past and honestly it's not worth the hype We figured we would try again hence the reservations last night but after this blunder of incompetence last evening never ever again read more

I stopped in to Sturbridge Seafood on my way home from a doctor's appointment in Milbury MA yesterday. This restaurant is a favorite of mine for years . It had just opened and there was just one couple at a table in the bar area. I was met by a very pleasant waitress/hostess/bartender. I wanted to sit at the bar. When I'm alone I prefer the bar. Sometimes you can strike up a great conversation sitting at the bar. My drink order was filled immediately and I was given a menu. I ordered fresh oysters that were from MA . They were served on a bed of ice with cocktail sauce, horseradish and one other dipping sauce I didn't recognize and fresh lemon. They were wonderful. I ordered the fried scallop dinner sans French fries paying homage to my cardiologist. I don't normally order fried food but here they are done so perfectly with a light breading and cooked t perfection. In place of the French fries I received a generous amount of cole slaw. It was perfect and not overburdened with mayo. A construction worker sat a couple of stools from me. He graciously picked my cane when it dropped to the floor. We talked about work and how they had to quit for the day when the temperature hit 93 degrees . This is when OSHA requires the site to be closed. I got the impression that he would have continued working because he wasn't being paid under these circumstances. A good experience once again and pleasant conversation, a perfect lunch! read more

Always delicious, Everything always well prepared. Staff are excellent. Rooms are neat, clean, an well addressed.

Experience was great. Service was excellent. I would've liked to see a better wine list. I special ordered fried oysters from the kitchen which they did no problem. Which was awesome. The crabcakes were good. And the tacos were huge. I like this restaurant because it's not a regular seafood place. It's not a fish fry. It's not fried clams and french fries. You see a lot of things on the menu that you might not have had before and look really good. I would definitely go back. I would recommend making a reservation. read more

The most freshest seafood not sitting dock side. Great atmosphere s well, upscale eating with a low key vibe.

Sturbridge Seafood came highly recommended from a gentleman we met in the area while buying some vintage items. He spoke, we listened. Located in Sturbridge, MA, Sturbridge S. has almost an entire menu worth of Seafood- but you can get by with a pork, chicken or steak dish here and there if you're into meat. Sturbridge S. is divided in two with the smaller dining area done in light blue+white walls, has an airy and sunny feel, several high-tops+regular seating and nautical notes. The left dining room on the other hand, is woodsy and larger for parties/gatherings(?). My Grilled Shrimp Po'Boy was very nice- not a typical "po'boy"- but it was tasty nonetheless. Let me also add that my sandwich called for coleslaw- and where I'm from, we don't add mayo to cabbage because that's just unheard of. I thought I had spotted it on their menu and when I got my dish, I realized I never asked for it to be left out. Luckily, Sturbridge S. doesn't add mayo to their coleslaw and it's prepped exactly how it's supposed to be: with vinegar. That sucker had a great bite! Hubs liked his fish tacos but thoroughly enjoyed his New England Clam Chowder. Although Sturbridge S's chowder is prepped with bacon- which I don't eat, it looked rich and filling and not that sludgy-thick mess. He'd said that the clam chowder was mild and the pork complemented the overall taste. Hell...what do I know? But let's talk about my cocktail- not only was it refreshing and stunning to look at for this seafood spot- but it WAS powerful and had a fantastic ratio of Prosecco:St. Germaine. By the 2nd, it set me up real good. Service from the young gals was awesome and the energy they brought every time, said it all. Plus the overall experience, was excellent. read more

Fish and chips are simply excellent, says this former restaurateur and wine/food educator.

We were camping locally and craving some seafood. We couldn't eat in due to our dogs but we ordered to go. Fish tacos and the fish and chips. So good. Very generous portions had leftovers of both. Strange but at first I didn't think I liked the tartar sauce but I kept dipping and it really grew on me. Wish I could identify the flavor that made it so different. Maybe the best fries I've had in a year. Prices were good for seafood. Can't comment on the ambiance or the service since we got ours to go-the reason for only four stars. If you're in Sturbridge and love seafood I'd definitely check them out. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this already. Sturbridge Seafood is WONDERFUL. I've been here dozens of times now over like a decade and it never disappoints. The menu is constantly changing so it's always interesting. It's the go to spot for me to meet friends from Connecticut for lunch or for dinner if I am out that far west. Better than a lot of Boston spots even. read more

We were in the area and craving some seafood. A quick Yelp lookup showed very good reviews for this place, so we decided to give it a try. Even on a Sunday at 4pm, there were some diners here, a good sign considering the basic ambience it offered. Immediately upon entry a sign read something like, "Please be patient we are short staffed." We see more and more of those these days. We waited about 5 minutes before our waitress arrived, and immediately ordered: Fried Scallops - Flash fried, hand cut french fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce $28 Fish & Chips - Beer battered cod, hand cut french fries, tartar sauce & malt vinegar aioli $17 The fried scallops were very tender and tasty, lightly fried and nicely executed. The fries were good, albeit not awesome, they could have been hotter and crispier. The coleslaw was fine. The cod was fantastic, a clean and fresh tasting fish, cooked perfectly and cooked with a tasty and not overly heavy batter. We would definitely order this again. The fries were good, but as mentioned prior, could have been hotter and crispier. The pandemic doesn't seem to exist here, we were disappointed that the staff was not wearing masks, and we didn't see any indication of precautions of any type in this restaurant. If it wasn't a quieter time, we would have left. Overall, a solid four stars for the food, though we wouldn't return until there more Covid restrictions in place. read more
