Lovely ambiance and even better food. I opted to sit on the left, away from the bar and it had a nice, upscale cabin vibe. They are our go to place for any special occasion. Their staff is friendly and always accommodating. They don't rush you and the food is amazing. We love the power tower, calamari, and chowder fries for appetizers. My favorite salad is the apple gorgonzola. My husband's favorite salad is the fried goat cheese. I love when they have the tuna and it's always cooked perfectly. My mother's favorites are the bacon wrapped cod and the salmon. We were told that this was the place to go for awesome seafood so we gave it a try on a Thursday night. We were seated on the bar side where there were 4 parties already served. We quickly were greeted and served drinks. We ordered fish and chips and fried scallops. Our food came out quick. The fish and chips were a generous portion. However the coating was really thick and just too much for me. Unfortunately the fries were a soggy mess under the fish. The scallops were served on an identical pile of soggy fries. I visited this restaurant and sat at the bar. It was on a Thursday night and they had a fairly full house. I was able to sit down immediately though. The beer selection is good with some nice local and non-local craft beers. For me being in Massachusetts meant that I had to order clam chowder. This version did not disappoint. It had a couple of different ingredients in it that still allowed it to remain very authentic, but gave it just enough difference to make it unique, very tasty and I would recommend it. The grilled shrimp were very large nice size they were cooked properly and the preparation was delicious. My only little criticism was the amount of olive oil that they left or put in the bottom of the plate. It did ruin the bread. That being said, I would just order it without the olive oil next time inside the restaurant is nice and reminds you of a typical Massachusetts style fish house. I stopped in to Sturbridge Seafood on my way home from a doctor's appointment in Milbury MA yesterday. This restaurant is a favorite of mine for years . It had just opened and there was just one couple at a table in the bar area. I was met by a very pleasant waitress/hostess/bartender. I wanted to sit at the bar. When I'm alone I prefer the bar. Sometimes you can strike up a great conversation sitting at the bar. My drink order was filled immediately and I was given a menu. I ordered fresh oysters that were from MA . They were served on a bed of ice with cocktail sauce, horseradish and one other dipping sauce I didn't recognize and fresh lemon. They were wonderful. I ordered the fried scallop dinner sans French fries paying homage to my cardiologist. I don't normally order fried food but here they are done so perfectly with a light breading and cooked t perfection. In place of the French fries I received a generous amount of cole slaw. It was perfect and not overburdened with mayo. A construction worker sat a couple of stools from me. He graciously picked my cane when it dropped to the floor. We talked about work and how they had to quit for the day when the temperature hit 93 degrees . This is when OSHA requires the site to be closed. I got the impression that he would have continued working because he wasn't being paid under these circumstances. A good experience once again and pleasant conversation, a perfect lunch! read more

Sturbridge Seafood came highly recommended from a gentleman we met in the area while buying some vintage items. He spoke, we listened. Located in Sturbridge, MA, Sturbridge S. has almost an entire menu worth of Seafood- but you can get by with a pork, chicken or steak dish here and there if you're into meat. Sturbridge S. is divided in two with the smaller dining area done in light blue+white walls, has an airy and sunny feel, several high-tops+regular seating and nautical notes. The left dining room on the other hand, is woodsy and larger for parties/gatherings(?). My Grilled Shrimp Po'Boy was very nice- not a typical "po'boy"- but it was tasty nonetheless. Let me also add that my sandwich called for coleslaw- and where I'm from, we don't add mayo to cabbage because that's just unheard of. I thought I had spotted it on their menu and when I got my dish, I realized I never asked for it to be left out. Luckily, Sturbridge S. doesn't add mayo to their coleslaw and it's prepped exactly how it's supposed to be: with vinegar. That sucker had a great bite! Hubs liked his fish tacos but thoroughly enjoyed his New England Clam Chowder. Although Sturbridge S's chowder is prepped with bacon- which I don't eat, it looked rich and filling and not that sludgy-thick mess. He'd said that the clam chowder was mild and the pork complemented the overall taste. Hell...what do I know? But let's talk about my cocktail- not only was it refreshing and stunning to look at for this seafood spot- but it WAS powerful and had a fantastic ratio of Prosecco:St. Germaine. We were camping locally and craving some seafood. We couldn't eat in due to our dogs but we ordered to go. Fish tacos and the fish and chips. So good. Very generous portions had leftovers of both. Strange but at first I didn't think I liked the tartar sauce but I kept dipping and it really grew on me. Wish I could identify the flavor that made it so different. Maybe the best fries I've had in a year. Prices were good for seafood. Can't comment on the ambiance or the service since we got ours to go-the reason for only four stars. Almost a 4 star. So close! I went with some friends, and they were very busy on a Saturday night, which was nice to see. The restaurant is clean and cute, and the seating is adequate but not comfy and kind of hard after two hours. I've eaten here before and both times the service was very good! However the food is hit or miss. Hence the 3 stars. Please stop loading your fries with salt. They are lovely fries, and you ruined two men's dinners because they were inedible. The fish and clams were great! The bacon wrapped cod was not wrapped at all. Kind of weird to have it come out with bacon bits on top, and my friend said it was overpowering the fish. I had the scallops and they were lovely. The chowder was also very tasty, but a cup with two tiny clams and two tiny pieces of potato is sad. I am from new york on a long weekend getaway Researched placings to take my in laws for their 47 anniversary. We chose Sturbridge seafood. Made reservations for my in laws 47 wedding anniversary. Made reservations for 7pm Confirmed through yelp. Arrived at 6:30 pm father in law checked in at 6:30 was told to come in closer to 7. I went in at 6:55 told hostess. She said grab other members to party. I did so came back and, they were seating people who waited for hour and a half without reservations. There were other parties with reservations at 7 and even 6:30 who left. Asked multiple times for manager got attitude and ignored. We finally were seated at 8 pm Food may be awesome but still waiting but atmosphere is the worst we have ever experienced. And we eat out frequently. We were in the area and craving some seafood. A quick Yelp lookup showed very good reviews for this place, so we decided to give it a try. Even on a Sunday at 4pm, there were some diners here, a good sign considering the basic ambience it offered. Immediately upon entry a sign read something like, "Please be patient we are short staffed." We see more and more of those these days. We waited about 5 minutes before our waitress arrived, and immediately ordered: Fried Scallops - Flash fried, hand cut french fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce $28 Fish & Chips - Beer battered cod, hand cut french fries, tartar sauce & malt vinegar aioli $17 The fried scallops were very tender and tasty, lightly fried and nicely executed. The fries were good, albeit not awesome, they could have been hotter and crispier. The coleslaw was fine. The cod was fantastic, a clean and fresh tasting fish, cooked perfectly and cooked with a tasty and not overly heavy batter. We would definitely order this again. The fries were good, but as mentioned prior, could have been hotter and crispier. The pandemic doesn't seem to exist here, we were disappointed that the staff was not wearing masks, and we didn't see any indication of precautions of any type in this restaurant.
