Came with a group of 8 to celebrate a birthday. Have been here many times. BUT had never ordered the scallops or the ravioli. My advice - do not order those if you are hungry. 6 measly ravioli that had virtually no filling, sitting in a pool of oil masquerading as sauce. Enough oil for 50 ravioli, enough ravioli for a 4 year old. I am a woman with a slight build who eats normal portions. Left starving. The scallops were ordered by 2 in the party. 4 or 5 measly scallops and a small handful of whatever veggies it was. Again, the smallest portion of food I have ever seen. The rest of the party was luckier as they ordered burgers, cod or steak and enjoyed their meals. Something needs to be done about those 2 meal sizes or they should be removed from the menu. Our waitress was terrific and the music and the ambiance was great, as always. Bad day for the Duck. read more

I am hoping I caught this place a bad night because the food was good but service was horrible considering I visited on a slow night ! I sat at the bar and waited 15 min for bartender to ask me what I wanted and took another 30 minutes to get a glass of water, after having to ask two different bartenders and this is for a 20 seat bar at 50% capacity. I will try on a busy night to see if it's a better experience or not. read more

Overpriced. 4 very salty scallops in a strange bean sauce for $30. Gorgonzola bread for $11 didn't have much flavor except for the sauce. Fries too salty. Desserts were fabulous! Great service! We sat downstairs and were able to order off both menus. read more

I've come here multiple times when visiting Mass because my uncle enjoys it. I've actually been going here much longer when it used to be the Whistling Swan and Ugly Duckling. The space is inviting and comfortable and I've always enjoyed some of the simpler dishes like mussels and their Caesar which are consistently done well. read more

Location & Atmosphere The Duck, located in Sturbridge, offers a charming and rustic dining experience with warm wood interiors, ambient lighting, and a cozy, structured layout that's perfect for both casual afternoons and intimate dinners. We visited on a quiet Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere that allowed us to really take in the space and service. Food & Drinks We started our meal with cocktails--each with its own standout qualities. The Coconut Key Lime Martini was perfectly balanced: not overly sweet, with just the right hint of coconut and citrus. It was refreshing and smooth. The Juliet was much more tart, likely due to the blend of citrus and bitters, making it a bolder choice for those who enjoy a punchier cocktail. For starters, we ordered a variety of small plates that could easily double as entrées due to their generous portions: * Crab Cake: Exceptionally fresh with a light hand on the filler. The texture was delicate and moist without being overly dense--truly one of the better crab cakes we've had. * Mussels: Served in a flavorful tomato-based broth, the mussels were plump and well-prepared. A touch more bread for dipping would have elevated the dish even further, as the broth was too good to leave behind. * Poutine: A unique twist using waffle fries, cheese curds, and rich duck gravy. This dish was indulgent, flavorful, and well-executed--the duck gravy added a depth that truly elevated the classic Canadian comfort dish. Altogether, these three appetizers were more than enough to fill us up, and each brought something special to the table in terms of flavor, quality, and presentation. ‍ Service & Hospitality Service was smooth and unobtrusive. Our server was soft-spoken and efficient, with a kind demeanor and subtle charm that came through with conversation. They kept the pacing of our meal well-timed without making us feel rushed. Unique Selling Point The Duck offers a refined twist on comfort food, elevating familiar flavors with quality ingredients and creative execution. The use of duck in the poutine, the freshness of the seafood, and the attention to drink composition are all standout qualities. Combined with the rustic-chic ambiance, it's a well-rounded experience. read more

A great treat for a late lunch after a stressful day. Heading home to Connecticut from Boston, we searched for a restaurant en route & found The Duck in Sturbridge just past Olde Sturbridge Village. It was a rainy Tuesday late afternoon, and there were still folks ensconced in the cozy upper barn like restaurant. High ceilings, rustic beams, lots of natural light, comfortable/casual atmosphere. For an appetizer, we had the Gorgonzola bread. Yum! My husband had a burger with a fried egg. Really good. My daughter & I got the fried chicken sandwich. Delicious (though it wasn't too big). I had the regular fries & she had the sweet potato fries which she said were terrific. The service was wonderful. We'd stop here again when we come through the area. read more

We were able to order from the Avellino menu as that part was booked by a private party. The food was the best we have had in Sturbridge. Our waitress Rebecca was great too, the drinks were quite strong, but I managed to drink mine lol. I had the saltimbacca which was delicious!!!! read more

My girlfriends & I stopped in for dinner as our monthly out to eat get together. We all enjoyed our meals and the waitress was very nice, I wish I remembered her name :/ Ambiance was casual with a rustic vibe. Very neat all in all. I remember years ago they had a piano man playing and I do wish that was back in play. As a tea snob I was very happy to see the brand they serve, I'm sure many other tea drinkers are also. I enjoyed the Linguine with meatballs and had plenty for lunch the following day. The Caesar salad I munched right down. Fresh, crisp lettuce and a yummy dressing. My wife and I went to The Duck this past week for our weekly "Date Day". I must say it was next to the worst experience we have ever had! My wife ordered a salad with a piece of salmon on top; I ordered the haddock and a beer, and an order of flatbread. The flatbread was delicious. My wife received her meal and dug in. I received the flatbread and beer. And waited for my haddock. And waited. And waited. My wife finished her meal and I was still waiting for mine when our waitress came by and I told her that I simply wanted the check - remove my order as I did not receive it. She went to the kitchen and then returned saying that my meal was now ready. I told her I no longer wanted it -just the check, please. Absolutely HORRIBLE service. Our waitress (Pearle) couldn't help the lousy kitchen staff, so left left her a tip anyway. Hopefully SHE got the tip and didn't have to share it. E read more

The duck was great! We sat in the tap room and had amazing service. The staff seemed knowledgeable and very accommodating and genuinely nice. We started with the duck poutine. We felt there could have been more duck and there was just 3 curds. The flavor was there though! My party had the house Mac n cheese with braised short rib, the gnocchi with sage butter sauce and a chicken sandwich, the gnocchi was very good and well seasoned as was the Mac and cheese. The short rib was delicious. Both were generously portioned. The chicken sandwich was also good. Unfortunately we found ourselves just passing thru otherwise we would love to come back and try more dishes. The staff was amazing!!! read more

Upscale American eatery with relaxed atmosphere. Price point for food was great, my wife's salmon Caesar wrap was gigantic, and the fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Service was fantastic as well, loses one star in the execution of the food. Salmon Caesar wrap was basically a salmon wrap, the fish completely overpowered the dressing, the dressing needed to be more potent. I ordered the duck banh mi, and while I was expecting a fusion item, not something I'd find in Hanoi or even a Vietnamese restaurant stateside, the blend of flavors was just not there. 0 spice, and the pickled vegetables were a complete afterthought. Calling something a banh mi connotes a flavor profile which was completely missed, though the duck was delicious, cooked very well. Wife's rose was nice, but the draft beer I ordered cost $10.00 per pint, which feels exorbitant, you wouldn't pay that price in downtown Boston. Would definitely return, just small issues forced this review down to a 4 star. read more

The Duck is on the second floor of a building holding two restaurants - the first floor has an Italian restaurant, Avellino. They seem to share an ownership, however, because the menus have a lot of overlap. So the Duck has a bar and many tables in two rooms. I went wanting to try their Duck Poutine, but they were sold out! I did eventually get over my (mock) outrage, and the overall meal was very nice. The entree, the black cherry duck, was a nice change of pace from orange, but the vegetables were supposedly au jus? (I'm not sure about that claim....) But I'd love to go again - the meal was delicious, our waitress was courteous, and .... I really want to try the Duck Poutine. read more

Met some friends here as it was a halfway point from where we live. Happy she found this place! THE FOOD: -I got a chicken Caesar wrap and if was very average. I think they only toss the lettuce in the dressing before putting both lettuce and chicken in the wrap so I found it to be a little dry and had to ask for some extra Caesar. I also prefer wraps that are grilled/pressed a little before served and this was not. I wouldn't recommend or order it again, just very underwhelming. Wish I got something else cuz my friend's food looked delish! -my friend got the duck bahn mi and they said if was really good! It looked tasty. -they also got the short rib which looked amazing! They said everything was very tasty. -fries disappointed me because I was expecting a different style of fresh cut fries but these were still okay. Not my favorite and I left quite a few on my plate. THE DRINKs: -I got the rose and it was tasty. I had 2 glasses -my friend got a canned beer they liked. -The draft selection was large as well so definitely something to please everyone THE SERVICE: -the waitress was very kind and made me feel welcome while I had to wait for my party to arrive. -although polite, she seemed a bit overwhelmed in checking in on the tables even though the restaurant wasn't very busy the whole lunch service but overall I was very pleased w the service THE ATMOSPHERE: -When you walk in there are 2 restaurants on either side of a hostess station. During the lunch hours if you want to go to the duck you should go upstairs and there's another host station at the top of the steps...I waited downstairs like an idiot before wandering up lol -the restaurant is really pretty with it's wood beams, high ceilings, and stylish light fixtures. For some reason my thought was "this would be a cute place for an engagement party" -comfy seats, pretty colors of napkins and such, loved the corner booth we were in it was very spacious Overall, if I had to meet a friend in the middle again I would definitely go back here! Ummm also very confused, somehow I didn't take any pictures? Boo on me read more

Very good. APP: We got the pouting with duck , very nice duck but the fries should be deeper fried IMHO. I can't believe I haven't written a review before, but we really enjoy the Duck. Good, diverse menu that they rotate seasonally without losing the favorites. Great ambience and lighting. I went to the duck, which should be called the suck for many reasons. One reason is I ordered chicken cordon bleu, and I got a CHICKEN LEG. I told the waitress I order chicken cordon bleu and she said that's how they make it. Second reason is my 2 year old son was "apparently in the way" when the waitress was coming from the emergency exit. Just why? read more

Top to bottom, start to finish, a FANTASTIC dining experience! The food was fabulous. I had a cup of the sun-dried tomato lobster bisque and my wife and daughter got the Caesar salad and seasonal salads, all excellent. For entrees, I had the duck breast with potato pave, sauteed baby kale, pomegranate gastrique; my wife had the seared halibut with roasted delicata wedge, sauteed spinach, apple compote frisee radish salad, my older daughter had the chicken parmesan with linguine, and my younger daughter had the seared salmon with honey mustard glaze, collard greens, seasoned rice pilaf. ALL DELICIOUS. And although we almost NEVER get dessert, we ordered the peanut butter dome, the pumpkin cheesecake, and the s'mores ice cream. OUTSTANDING! Our server Rebecca was also OUTSTANDING!!! The place had a very cool loft vibe to it, and was very relacing We live an hour away in Rhode Island and my wife said, "we've GOT to come back!" read more

Park in back and walk upstairs. We sat at the bar. None of the uncomfortable bar stools here. Customers step up and sit in uber comfy swivel side chairs. Ahhhhh. Super nice. No one was at the podium on the first floor, and no one greeted us upstairs so we seated ourselves. The bartender was away when we arrived and we asked if this was OK when she returned. Just to be sure. She was very personable and friendly. Most customers were eating at the bar while some sort of group event was going on in the next room. The biggest area seems to be booth seating while the little side room is high tops. There appeared to be two other waitresses on duty as well as a bar-back/food runner. While the menu looks WoW, our food was just OK. However, between the awesome bar seating and the amazing food possibilities on the menu, I would totally head back for another try. read more

Good food. Great service. Nice ambiance. Waitress was very accommodating and friendly. The bar also looked neat.

Oh, we have to go, with a four star, for our dining experience, was just so bizarre! In through the back door, which seemed like a barn, from the parking lot to the loft; This ain't no yarn! Through a small hall, we entered a bar, with ladies all around, smoking big fat cigars! (Ok; ~} now it is beginning to unravel). Greeted promptly by Brady, who, after taking photos with the ladies, brought us into the loft and seated us comfortably with dainties. Becky was good, serving us delicious apps and drinks, as quickly as she could. And the food; oh the food, was served quick and looking so good, we almost forgot to take a shot, for our review, as it stood. Yet the pita bread was stale: tough as a nail. Cut into my gum after eating some. So, there you have it, all-in-all, a very nice dining experience, in a glorified stall, of a very nice hall; we had a ball! read more

This is my second time coming to The Duck, the first time during the day of my college graduation back in 2010. I do not remember much of that day from sure excitement from being done with school but I recall the staff and other guests at the time being very friendly. Today I came back to celebrate Father's Day with my soon to be 80 year old grandfather. We sat at the bar which to our surprise was not very busy. The bar though.... BEST bar I have ever sat down to eat at, and no jokes aside, you are sitting down in this comfy lounge style chair in which the bar room has been lifted but where the bar tender is still standing eye level with you. No bar stools or chairs, sitting down in absolute comfort. Anyways.... let me get to the food. My grandfather had the house salad and the Grilled 12 oz Prime New York Sirloin, cleaned his plate! My grandmother had the same but ordered a chowder rather than having a salad. I had a bite and was not very impressed with it. I had a french onion soup which was a little better than average but the frustrating part was the cheese and how it was very difficult to not only eat but to get at the rest of the soup I had to eat the ball of it first. Minus that the soup is rich and was enjoyable to eat. For dinner I had the Vegetable Pad Thai: rice noodles, pistachios, egg & fresh vegetables stir fried with garlic & herbs, sesame oil & lime. A very large dish (see picture) and boy did it hit the spot! Cannot wait to dig into my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. All and all it was a very enjoyable Father's Day and would recommend anyone looking for a nice dinner in a relaxing environment, especially sitting wt the bar, to stop in. read more

We were roaming around and hungry so I did my usual 'poutine near me' search which never fails me and The Duck popped up immediately. Browsing the menu it looked like my kind of place and was only ten minutes away so off we went. I love the outdoor seating tent they have set up. It reminds me of an old revival tent and had ample socially distanced seating. Probably the best outside dining area I've sat in during this pandemic. The menu is great. Lots of options. We even had a brunch menu available on an early Saturday afternoon. The drink menu was equally as good and long. For drinks, we of course had to get the new pumpkin spice beer on tap. It's a rule. I tried a few sips and it was very nice. I got the Perfect Day cocktail which featured ginger and pear vodka. Also, very nice and smooth but not super strong. We decided to share a few smaller dishes since they had such a good list on the menu. Of course, we went with the duck poutine. It was amazing. The duck was perfect and I loved the brown gravy. We also went with pumpkin fritters. I had expected sweeter but it was perfect - just this lovely ball of pumpkin and a pumpkin aioli to dunk it in. Finally, we ordered the avocado toast off of the brunch menu. This was the only item I didn't think was that tasty. Just avocado on a multigrain bread. It was okay but nothing great. The prices were really good - our bill was only around $51 for all that food and drinks. All in all, a really great dining experience and I would go back for more of that duck poutine! read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here! The price was a touch high, but not surprising for such a touristy area. We called earlier in the day to make an early dinner reservation for that evening. They were super friendly and accomodating. We started off with the duck poutine and it was awesome. I always order poutine if it's on the menu. The duck was tender and the gravy was flavorful. For my main dish I went with the pumpkin ravioli with a sage, brown butter, and cream sauce, it was delicious. Probably some of the best pumpkin ravioli I have ever had. The sauce complemented the pasta perfectly instead of overpowering it. My family all enjoyed their dishes as well. My brother ordered the salmon, which was a lovely thick piece, others had the chicken cordon bleu and the pork shank. Parking filled up quick in the back parking lot, but there seemed to be another parking lot adjacent to it. You just have to turn in after the first parking lot to get to the overflow lot. read more
