I am hoping I caught this place a bad night because the food was good but service was horrible considering I visited on a slow night ! I sat at the bar and waited 15 min for bartender to ask me what I wanted and took another 30 minutes to get a glass of water,after having to ask two different bartenders and this is for a 20 seat bar at 50% capacity. A great treat for a late lunch after a stressful day. Heading home to Connecticut from Boston, we searched for a restaurant en route & found The Duck in Sturbridge just past Olde Sturbridge Village. It was a rainy Tuesday late afternoon, and there were still folks ensconced in the cozy upper barn like restaurant. High ceilings, rustic beams, lots of natural light, comfortable/casual atmosphere. For an appetizer, we had the Gorgonzola bread. Yum! My husband had a burger with a fried egg. Really good. My daughter & I got the fried chicken sandwich. Delicious (though it wasn't too big). My wife and I went to The Duck this past week for our weekly "Date Day". I must say it was next to the worst experience we have ever had! My wife ordered a salad with a piece of salmon on top; I ordered the haddock and a beer, and an order of flatbread. The flatbread was delicious. My wife received her meal and dug in. I received the flatbread and beer. And waited for my haddock. And waited. And waited. My wife finished her meal and I was still waiting for mine when our waitress came by and I told her that I simply wanted the check - remove my order as I did not receive it. She went to the kitchen and then returned saying that my meal was now ready. I told her I no longer wanted it -just the check, please. Absolutely HORRIBLE service. Upscale American eatery with relaxed atmosphere. Price point for food was great, my wife's salmon Caesar wrap was gigantic, and the fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Service was fantastic as well, loses one star in the execution of the food. Salmon Caesar wrap was basically a salmon wrap, the fish completely overpowered the dressing, the dressing needed to be more potent. I ordered the duck banh mi, and while I was expecting a fusion item, not something I'd find in Hanoi or even a Vietnamese restaurant stateside, the blend of flavors was just not there. 0 spice, and the pickled vegetables were a complete afterthought. Calling something a banh mi connotes a flavor profile which was completely missed, though the duck was delicious, cooked very well. Wife's rose was nice, but the draft beer I ordered cost $10.00 per pint, which feels exorbitant, you wouldn't pay that price in downtown Boston. Met some friends here as it was a halfway point from where we live. Happy she found this place! THE FOOD: -I got a chicken Caesar wrap and if was very average. I think they only toss the lettuce in the dressing before putting both lettuce and chicken in the wrap so I found it to be a little dry and had to ask for some extra Caesar. The Duck is on the second floor of a building holding two restaurants - the first floor has an Italian restaurant, Avellino. They seem to share an ownership, however, because the menus have a lot of overlap. So the Duck has a bar and many tables in two rooms. I went wanting to try their Duck Poutine, but they were sold out! I did eventually get over my (mock) outrage, and the overall meal was very nice. The entree, the black cherry duck, was a nice change of pace from orange, but the vegetables were supposedly au jus? (I'm not sure about that claim....) But I'd love to go again - the meal was delicious, our waitress was courteous, and .... I really want to try the Duck Poutine. read more

Oh, we have to go, with a four star, for our dining experience, was just so bizarre! In through the back door, which seemed like a barn, from the parking lot to the loft; This ain't no yarn! Through a small hall, we entered a bar, with ladies all around, smoking big fat cigars! (Ok; ~} now it is beginning to unravel). Greeted promptly by Brady, who, after taking photos with the ladies, brought us into the loft and seated us comfortably with dainties. Park in back and walk upstairs. We sat at the bar. None of the uncomfortable bar stools here. Customers step up and sit in uber comfy swivel side chairs. Ahhhhh. Super nice. No one was at the podium on the first floor, and no one greeted us upstairs so we seated ourselves. The bartender was away when we arrived and we asked if this was OK when she returned. Just to be sure. She was very personable and friendly. Most customers were eating at the bar while some sort of group event was going on in the next room. The biggest area seems to be booth seating while the little side room is high tops. There appeared to be two other waitresses on duty as well as a bar-back/food runner. While the menu looks WoW, our food was just OK. However, between the awesome bar seating and the amazing food possibilities on the menu, I would totally head back for another try. read more

This is my second time coming to The Duck, the first time during the day of my college graduation back in 2010. I do not remember much of that day from sure excitement from being done with school but I recall the staff and other guests at the time being very friendly. Today I came back to celebrate Father's Day with my soon to be 80 year old grandfather. We sat at the bar which to our surprise was not very busy. The bar though.... BEST bar I have ever sat down to eat at, and no jokes aside, you are sitting down in this comfy lounge style chair in which the bar room has been lifted but where the bar tender is still standing eye level with you. No bar stools or chairs, sitting down in absolute comfort. Anyways.... let me get to the food. My grandfather had the house salad and the Grilled 12 oz Prime New York Sirloin, cleaned his plate! My grandmother had the same but ordered a chowder rather than having a salad. I had a bite and was not very impressed with it. I had a french onion soup which was a little better than average but the frustrating part was the cheese and how it was very difficult to not only eat but to get at the rest of the soup I had to eat the ball of it first. Minus that the soup is rich and was enjoyable to eat. For dinner I had the Vegetable Pad Thai: rice noodles, pistachios, egg & fresh vegetables stir fried with garlic & herbs, sesame oil & lime. A very large dish (see picture) and boy did it hit the spot! Cannot wait to dig into my leftovers for lunch tomorrow. All and all it was a very enjoyable Father's Day and would recommend anyone looking for a nice dinner in a relaxing environment, especially sitting wt the bar, to stop in. read more

We were roaming around and hungry so I did my usual 'poutine near me' search which never fails me and The Duck popped up immediately. Browsing the menu it looked like my kind of place and was only ten minutes away so off we went. I love the outdoor seating tent they have set up. It reminds me of an old revival tent and had ample socially distanced seating. Probably the best outside dining area I've sat in during this pandemic. The menu is great. Lots of options. We even had a brunch menu available on an early Saturday afternoon. The drink menu was equally as good and long. For drinks, we of course had to get the new pumpkin spice beer on tap. It's a rule. I tried a few sips and it was very nice. I got the Perfect Day cocktail which featured ginger and pear vodka. Also, very nice and smooth but not super strong. We decided to share a few smaller dishes since they had such a good list on the menu. Of course, we went with the duck poutine. It was amazing. The duck was perfect and I loved the brown gravy. We also went with pumpkin fritters. I had expected sweeter but it was perfect - just this lovely ball of pumpkin and a pumpkin aioli to dunk it in. Finally, we ordered the avocado toast off of the brunch menu. This was the only item I didn't think was that tasty. Just avocado on a multigrain bread. It was okay but nothing great. The prices were really good - our bill was only around $51 for all that food and drinks. All in all, a really great dining experience and I would go back for more of that duck poutine! read more

I have eaten here a few times before. The food is pretty good. We had a reservation for 4 but we were squished into a tiny table. The hostess did not even give us menus and in fact was on her cell phone behind the stand most of the time we were there. We had to ask for bread 3 times. My friend ordered veal parm and her pasta was cold. The food was quite pricey, which you wouldn't mind if the entire experience was good. Waitress was friendly but never asked what kind of pasta we wanted or if we were interested in ordering a salad with our meal. Maybe it was an off night for them?? read more
