Their online presence did not hold up in real life. Despite good quality paper napkins, the meal was disappointing. Table was sticky, food was slow in being served and order was incorrect. Where do I begin. Not from around town. Was hiking in Shenandoah NP. Everything around town was closed, made a 30 minute trek to culpeppper. Chose Grill 309 because of the good rating on yelp. Not surprised, just disappointed. Seriously I was so hungry. Order for one of two, blackened chicken sandwich. Was chosen, expected to be a safe choice. Chicken was rubbery and weird. Wasn't blackened, Merely sauced. The fries on the side, were very much needed and appreciated otherwise the meal would have been a total waste. Fries: damn good. Steak wrap. Sounds weird, but I like steak. I didn't expect mountains to be moved, so it was alright. Mediocre expectations surely met. Could have gone for a more "sauced" experience. Kinda dry. Steak wasn't bad but like I said, I like steak. Service, it was good. Attentive. Not too much but friendly and open. Came in on a Saturday evening with my boyfriend and his parents. There were a couple open tables and we chose to sit outside on the patio which is bordered by fresh flora and herbs. I chose this place because of the Yelp reviews and mentions of the donut burger and craft cocktails. Upon arriving, we saw another table with the Chicken & Waffles sandwich so we ended up getting two of those, a donut burger, ahi tuna sliders (a special that day), onion rings and substituted our sides for pomme frites and sweet potato pomme frites. The onion rings were unlike any I've ever encountered and were really good (hot though, be careful!) The donut on the burger fell apart but it was still delicious. The chicken and waffles were great too. We each ordered a cocktail based on the drink menu they have, and when I mentioned wanting a mojito but wishing it were more unique like the other options, the waitress suggested getting a strawberry mojito, which was wonderful. All their ingredients seem to be fresh and all the drinks were tasty. The staff were all friendly and even those who were not serving us directly were attentive. Nice sports bar/restaurant, seems more like an upscale urban sports bar that would fit better in Georgetown or Downtown Charlottesville than Culpeper. That said, it's a bit small, but it's probably exact right size for Culpeper. Grease bag food and an apathetic and dismissive management team leads me to believe that because there are only a few restaurants open later in the evening in this vicinity that this is why this place even survives. Not worth the frustration. I have sworn to never go back. After explaining that it was a vegetarian the waitress was happy to bring over my spinach dip and chips topped off with a generous helping of piggy (Bacon) After, repeating that I ordered a spinach dip the waitress pointed to the fact that there was mention of bacon on it. I was not offered any other options. I did not touch the dish and sat and drank my water only. when my friends finished eating their dinners ,this company was happy to charge me full price for a dish of which I did not eat. Grill 309 was perfect for a late night stop with my family on the way back from Lake Anna during a week night. We were served after 9 by friendly staff. Great decor and atmosphere- love the herb and flower combo pots on the window sill, exposed duct work on the ceiling, Mason jar lights.. has a modern ambience in a sweet historic town. The food was great! I devoured a chicken pita sandwich.. OMG so so good!! My kids got the burgers and fries- tasty and well done. Also tried the Chipchos - pretty decent but I think I needed a beer to fully enjoy them! I give 5 stars because I was so happy to sit in a restaurant at 10 pm with my small children and be treated nicely. If I could give this place zero stars I would. During a time of COVID there was only one server in a mask the entire time. While others had masks available they were not wearing them correctly while working. Not to mention not one person in the kitchen was wearing a mask the entire time. very disappointed with the take out service, I ordered the mahi tacos which are a personal favorite of mine, since I was doing take out I asked for all topping to be on the side, I got one tiny container of slaw and guacamole, it was barley enough for one taco (it comes with 3) and I did not receive any napkins or plastic ware, after taxes it was almost $17. They used to run a special for $3 tacos on Tuesdays, I see how it has changed and the Mahi or shrimp tacos are not included in their Tuesdays specials. Little one had a kids burger and no complaints at all. I got a turkey guacamole wrap with a side of green beans, very filling 10/10. Wife had shrimp tacos with fires, which was also amazing. The fries are delicious and were cooked perfectly 10/10. Jack and coke was the highlight of the dinner to finish off the amazing lunch. Tradically hipster bar and grill in the beautiful mountain town of Culpepper Virginia. It has a new and fresh feel situated underneath a swanky apartment building. It almost feels like DC. Came on a Thursday night and enjoyed both specials: the 50cent wings and half off select beer bottles. I had 5 BBQ and 5 mild buffalo wings. I also downed a bottle of troegs sunshine pilsner. I love this place! I'm not a fast food person but don't want to spend tons of money either. I'm also mostly vegetarian and occasionally eat seafood. I don't have many options at restaurants that appeal to me. My favorites here are the shrimp tacos, sweet potato fries with Ranch dressing and the veggie burger. I love the original veggie burger they had but the Beyond Meat on is delish! The people who run it are so nice and helpful too-ask for Wyatt or Keegan! I'm sorry to say I was not a fan of this place. In fairness, it could be what we ordered: the Double Grilled Cheese Burger (a burger between two grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches) and the Chicken & Waffles (chicken with cheese, bacon, and egg between two waffles, with syrup). They were probably the most gluttonous items we could have chosen from the menu, but even so, I'd expect they'd at least be edibly gluttonous, and they really weren't. It was all grease, no flavor; all squish, no texture. I couldn't eat even a quarter of either one of them and I shared them with the most bottomless-pit-of-a-man in America. Even the fries were super greasy. I gave all the leftovers to bottomless-pit (who also wasn't impressed, but didn't want to waste them) because I just didn't want to eat any more of this. That being said, the atmosphere is very nice and the service is great. I would just recommend that the kitchen seriously reconsider its recipes: Fat is only appealing up to a point. My wife and I went hiking in the Shenandoah and on our way back to Richmond drove through the town of Culpeper to stop at this jewel of a restaurant! Upon entering we were greeted and found a place to sit, we arrived around 2:30 so the lunch crowd was done. I ordered a beer from their extensive selection and checked out the menu. I went with the special of the day, shrimp tacos with a side of tater tots. The shrimp were fried perfect and the slaw was good as well. It was a little heavy on the guacamole, but still delicious. My wife got the philly steak which was amazing. Next time I will get their grilled cheese burger. To top it off, we got a fried Twinkie. Served with a scoop of ice cream, it was a perfect ending to a great meal. We will definitely be back! read more
