First time visiting on a motorcycle ride. Wasn't busy and was peaceful and cool. Good cocktails and beer and good service but I was confused when I got my two item plate with no bbq sauce. Hubby and I ended up here on a week night on one of our adventures exploring the area. I have to admit that I wasn't immediately impressed. I had a brisket plate and I have to admit, I didn't feel there was Anything special about it. We had a nice time. It was a cute area. It was nice and clean. Service was fine. But nothing special about the experience. Last week, I went to go pick up lunch here for some coworkers and myself. I knew we were in for a long shift and wanted to make sure we had some good options for everyone as we have some very picky people at work. This time I went for the Brisket Sandwich with chopped sausage and bbq sauce. I added some avocado to it and oh me oh my. It was delish! I couldn't finish it all but I promise you I sure did try. We had a little bump in that one of the meals were forgotten, but I caught it before I took off and they got right on the order and had it in my hand pretty quick. Came in to get a seat for two. We waited inside by the podium. Several waitresses saw us and did not say hello or anything. We assumed they were just busy. We waited for about 5 minutes then another family came in. They were greeted with a smile and seated with menus right away. We continued to stand there for a while and no one came. Eventually we left. I don't like to assume race is ever an issue, but the family that was seated was entirely white. While I was very visually Hispanic. I see no other reason why we were never acknowledged. read more

Copperopolis Town Square is a lovely but strange place. It was near empty but there was 1 place that had a lot of people and it was Griff's. A friend had recommended it as well, so we went in with high hopes. It has a beautiful large door that looks like a castle door up front. They do need to do something about the loud fan that goes off when you enter. I assume it is to keep the warm air in but it is super loud and startled us. The food was mixed. The pulled pork sandwich which is their speciality was good. The mac and cheese and onion rings were good too. The ribs were disappointing, it was served at room temp. Garlic bread was off target as well and not fully toasted. Our waitress seemed impatient. So overall... a meh experience. read more

I couldn't check in because there's really no cell phone signal 7/11, went with my family (party of 9) and they accommodated us even when we got there early. The service was amazing and food wonderful (as usual), which is our experience with Griff's (this is our 5th time here). I had the pulled pork meal with sewer potato fries (cross cut) and mac and cheese for the sides. The pulled pork and balsamic dipping sauce was absolutely great but what I really liked was the mac and cheese. The potions are great and the food was seasoned well. My wife ordered the brisket and ribs combo and it too was AMAZING! For dessert the brownie Sunday, which topped off a beautiful time with our family. If you're in the Angel's Camp area make runs to stop by Griff's. They are fully open with in door and outdoor seating. read more

We decided to visit Griff's again on our annual trip to Murphys. Once again, it did not disappoint! We sat at the bar to watch the Warriors game and received wonderful service from both of their bartenders. They were friendly and welcoming and made it a fun experience. The food was great! The pulled pork sandwich is outstanding as are all of their barbecued meats. We also had the chicken wings to start which delicious. I've came to Griff's twice now and I'm a fan. My favorite dish so far definitely has to be the brisket. Well the brisket plate and make sure you get the corn bread when they ask. If you're returning from a day of snowboarding from bear valley it's a great place to stop and recharge your body on some good food. Stopped in the area to charge up before entering Yosemite. Restaurant had a nice ambiance, rustic feel. I got the brisket burger with garlic fries. Kids decided they wanted to eat inside, it took forever for someone to even say boo hoo as the waitress and bartender looked at us numerous times, not a welcome we will be right with, But the gal that was bringing our order out was accommodating to put us at a table. Food was not very good! Pulled pork was overly fatty and for our food to be ready as we walked in and stood and waited for any word the food was cold and no flavor! First time customer with an unusual experience but their service, hustle, and responsiveness to a challenging situation earned them a loyal returning customer and many recommendations to my circle. There was a power outage on Fri 8/20; I placed my order for 10ppl the day before and paid over the phone. Since we live in Tuolumne County, we weren't aware of the outage nor had we received a call. We later found out they couldn't retrieve the order or my contact info from the system since the power went out early AM. When we arrived to pickup the order in the afternoon and saw the handmade closed sign...panic ensued! Was able to get the owners phone number from a local and explained our situation. Griff was already in the process of coordinating the reopening at 5pm and promised to prioritize us given our situation and re-took our order over the phone. We had our large order hand delivered to us at the adorable wine bar next door ( had to kill some time) and were on our way to the family event with AMAZING BBQ. Everyone LOVED the food. Ribs and brisket were tender and smoked to perfection. Chicken was moist and tasty. The chili was one of the best we ever had! Lots if comments about the yummy cornbread and special honey/orange butter! Thank you again to Team Griff. We will now go out of our way to take Hwy 4 home just to stop in! read more

The Smoked Chicken Salad is a solid 5 star entree meal. I failed however to make note of the descriptive word smoked when ordering this for my meal. I dislike the flavor of smoked foods. Despite this smokey flavor from the meat this salad was large and delicious. I waived the vinaigrette that comes with the salad and had a side of blue cheese and ranch dressings. Both delicious! Superior Blue cheese crumble was placed perfectly, fresh and moist not dried out. I eat a low carb lifestyle and this salad was perfect. The candied walnuts served on top were perfect. Made perfectly and still allowed me to register "small" for ketones the next day when peeing on the ketone stick. They have bottomless soda refills. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich and fries and her two daughters had the chicken strips n fries basket. Served hot; freshly made and piping hot. My salad was $14.50. They must have been under staffed today as it took at least one hour to get our food and there was no bartender. One of the two wait staff I saw also was working the bar where I could be found with our two empty soda glasses waiting with no one showing up twice to assist. The place was swamped. Food was good service could have been better but they were friendly and nice which helps. Located on a long country stretch of hills and small valleys highway this restaurant and little town in Copperopolis is a keeper. read more

My husband and I were driving through Copperopolis on our way to Groveland and stopped here for some food before getting back on the road. It took a few minutes before we got seated, but I think we just happened to arrive at the same time staff were taking their breaks and since we weren't in a rush, didn't bother us much. At first we were gonna share an appetizer because we weren't super hungry, but we ended up each ordering an entree and they were so worth it. I got the brisket burger and my husband got the Motherlode burger. 10/10 would get again, for both for sure. I don't remember the waitress' name but she was really sweet and definitely on top of her tables. She clearly had a relationship built with a few of the customers, locals I'd assume, in at the same time as us and I overhead her say that she was working 7 days a week. If I worked 7 days a week, ain't no way in hell I'd be able to be that good a waitress so major props to her. They do not require you to wear a mask while inside, but they didn't look at me or my husband twice when we walked in wearing them or put them on whenever the waitress came to the table so I didn't feel uncomfortable or unsafe while eating here at all. Overall, would definitely recommend this place to any friend passing through the area and if my husband and I are ever this way again, I'd be sure to stop through. read more

Returning from the mountains during the pandemic, we ordered take out and waiting for the completion of the order in our car. During this period, we discovered that the restaurant remained open to indoor dining despite the government shutdown orders, with several patrons leaving without masks. When our food was complete, it was walked out to our car by an individual who was not wearing a mask. For those who have concerns about their safety or the safety of others, I recommend avoiding this establishment until the region is past the pandemic. Regarding the kids food, the hamburgers were fine with one burnt bun. The french fries were the most popular due to the seasoning. The kids told me to tell you that the absence of ketchup on the menu and their burgers made for a dry eat that lacked flavour, compounded by a burnt bun. The ranch on the fries was a good second choice but again they stated that they would have preferred ketchup. My youngest daughter destroyed an entire side of coleslaw -- I didn't receive feedback, however I'm assuming it was well received. The adults found the pulled pork to be very well cooked and of high quality. I was initially put off by the strange barbecue sauce, with it being more of a salad dressing with a watery consistency and vinegar-forward flavour. I adapted to the sauce quickly though and I genuinely appreciated that messy drippy flavourful feast that it provided. Lastly, the onion rings that were served in with the pork in the to-go box were inedible. They were effectively unseasoned and soft due to extended storage in the takeout box with the pulled pork sandwich. Ketchup could have helped me get through a few, however without that ont he menu, they went uneaten. All in all a decent meal, with some understandable shortcomings (e.g., onions), some avoidable shortcomings (e.g., lack of ketchup, burnt bun), and some unacceptable shortcomings (e.g., violation of state directive, failure to keep customers safe by wearing a mask). I'll be back around post pandemic to eat in the dining area (with my own bottle of ketchup) and will update my review then. Edit: I saw in other reviews that this place is nicknamed BBQ-Anon, due to the vocal pandemic deniers who manage and work at the restaurant. Definitely not a safe place for those who are looking to avoid sickness, death, or financial ruin due to the pandemic. read more

So in the past I have not only gotten crappy service but the food was not all that great. Today I ordered for pick up and I had to change my review! I am pleased to say that I am a very satisfied customer. I ordered the California Chicken Sandwich with a side salad, the Southwestern Smoked Chicken Salad and the Brownie Sunday with Vanilla Ice cream. The order was ready in time. When I brought the food home my bun for the chicken sandwich was not soggy and gross but warm and toasty. The chicken was cooked to perfection, nice and flavorful-juicy! My salad was awesome, dressing on the side is a must for me. Nice and crisp! The Southwestern Salad was amazing! Perfect amount of veggies and greens! The avocados were perfect! The spicy ranch dressing had a perfect kick to it! The tortilla strips were not soggy or stale. The chicken was also cooked to perfection with the the right amount of cubes. I hate getting a chicken salad and the chicken is in a large strip or the cubes are too big I can't even enjoy the salad. As I am writing this review I can still taste the savory goodness from my meal! The brownie was super yummy! Nice and moist! Ice cream was perfect. Not a cheap vanilla flavor! Thank you Griff's! I give it an OK . I was hungry and the bbq brisket and bacon sandwich was somewhat satisfying. The sides were absolutely horrible. Mac and cheese NO FLAVOR AT ALL. Tasted unseasoned 100 %, and I didn't eat it.. Sides are kind of a big deal in BBQ. I have been all over the country to the most famous BBQ places and the American Royal KC. So I am a BBQ snob. And at least I will give it props for making a decent sandwich. But sides are a big deal ,and I was left a bit hungry. If I am hungry, and I leave a side uneaten...It says a lot. This place is terrible. It is a huge tourist trap. They give very little details about the food on the menu. I ordered a BLT which was a burger which they said it has applewood bacon and mayonnaise. When it came, there was no patty. This was a 16 dollar burger, AND NO PATTY? Keep in mind that BLT's are supposed to have patties! I would have ordered from McDonalds rather than asking a snake for a burger. You'd think that since there is no patty, that the bacon would be large, right? Well, I have a surprise for you. The "strip" of bacon was almost indiscernible! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE BATHROOMS! I saw a live rat in there just as I was finishing up my trip to the bathroom. The toilet lids had mold on them, sinks had hair in them, a dead bug alongside a half eaten rib, and the rat. Let's just say I would expect more from a "fancy" restaurant. read more

The macaroni and cheese is very good. All of their meats are smoked and have that strong smoky flavor which is not something that I like but if you like smoked flavor you'll love this place to meet looks very tender I ordered the pulled pork it was too smoky flavor for me but it was very tender.
